Jedburgh Tandoori in Scottish Borders

Ordered food and paid online, then was given a time to collect, so far so good. Turned up at the allotted time to be told to wait; 40 minutes later, food arrived and was asked for cash even though I had paid. He said my money would be refunded in 3 to 5 days and insisted I leave and get cash. Needless to say, I never paid for my meal twice but left with nothing. I'll update you if I get a refund. A complete scam.

Terrible service. Had to wait ages for someone to get us some drinks. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. When it did, it was mediocre at best. Several items were missing from our order. When some arrived we were already half way through our meal. After complaining about the other missing items to the manager his attitude was shocking and rather than apologising we were told we hadn't ordered them! Severely understaffed and shocking customer service. We even had to wait ages to pay. Don't waste your time or money going here.

The food was average that’s when it arrived after waiting over a hour at the table… when we finally got the food there’s where items missing from order .. when we approached the manager he become argumentative about the missing items and claimed we hadn’t ordered them .. it’s understaffed as only the manager and one waitress works dealing with the restaurant, takeaways and drinks , bills etc Avoid this place

Place was not too busy, given a table even though we had not booked. One man and one young girl front of house. We waited and waited and waited, even other customers commented on it. Finally got the girls attention to bring menus while three other tables had sat after us and had ordered their food and had been served their drinks. After about 45 minutes we left, seems from other reviews we did ourselves a favour.

Went out for a family meal and now I’m sitting eating it out a box in my living room…. Made a reservation for 2 and a high chair , arrived on time no table ready and no high chair , eventually sat us down and stood and held my daughter while they carried on to ignore the fact we were actually there, I carried a baby chair over everybody else that was trying to eat , sat at the table for 40 mins before we had to ask for a menu as again not a single person came over. One and half hours in and the starters arrive but no kids meal as requested at the start , again we asked kindly and it fell of deaf ears. 2 hours in and we had to ask where our main meal was , 10 mins later it arrived well some of it , no rice no chips no sides ect . Again we had to ask at this point our little girl was getting bored , can you Blame her ? So we asked if we could just take away our meal and the missing items in boxes as we are nearing 2.5 hours before mains , to be told to . “Wait “ Iv had takeaways from this place for years and the food has been brilliant but if I knew the staff and owners are as rude as that I wouldn’t never had bothered. Sadly won’t be back

Food was mediocre at best. Staff were rude and obviously bullying one of the younger waitresses. Not a nice environment.

Needed somewhere good for a meal out on a Sunday evening in Jedburgh and this tandoori- restaurant didn't disappoint. It's a cut-above the standard "curry house" and has interesting and tasty dishes on the menu along with all the curry house classics. The decor is modern and the service is efficient and friendly. Not spectacular but The Ordinary Punter was more than satisfied.

Worst Indian restaurant I have ever been too. Food was extremely bland and gritty. Customer service was awful very aggressive owner. Would not return or recommend this place.

Came in for dinner on a Saturday quite early. Service was good but the food was average. Not bad, just not great. The rice serving was on the small side, the meat samosas seemed to have very little filling and the naan bread was dry and no flavour of garlic despite having ordered a garlic naan. It wasn’t a terrible meal but we’d be choosing somewhere else to try next time.

Sat for just over an hour waiting to be served, gave up and left still hungry. Paid for drinks we had and told that the cook was on his own as an excuse. Two females at the counter talking and ignoring the few customers. Other customers had to interrupt their gossip to ask to place an order, they were still waiting when we left

Absolute terrible AGGRESSIVE customer service! Ordered a take away and told £10 delivery, then when I questioned it told it would be £8. I offered to collect, which we did - drove back over 10 miles to realise most of our food was missing and the food that was there was wrong! I rang the resteraunt to explain who said they would correct the order and deliver what was missing. Waited an hour, rang back and told there was no delivery driver!? Funny how there was earlier when they were charging £10! Explained I was unhappy about this service, where they offered me to come in the following day for a refund. Returned the following day and greeted with the manager who was aggressive and told me I wasn’t owed anything. I explained how is this possible after being told - and the whole order was wrong, then on correcting their mistake they then just didn’t turn up! Absolutely appalled at the way I have just been treated and will never ever be returning. Food was DISGUSTING and GREASY anyway! The manager was talking to me with food dripping off his hands! BAH

One of the greatest tasting Indian dishes I've had. Lovely restaurant, relaxing atmosphere. An intriguing menu and very happy with what I finally decided on. Tiger special I'm sure it was called.

Very nice little restaurant. Service was a little slow but they were quite busy and gave us a complimentary drink as an apology which wasn’t necessary but was a nice gesture. My onion bahji starter was a bit well done but still tasted nice and my vegetable rogan josh was beautiful and the popadoms were perfect! My husband really enjoyed his garlic mushroom starter and said the chicken korma was the best he had had. The only negative was the drinks, we aren't drinkers so had cokes and it was £2.45 a drink. Not the worst price until we realised it was only a can of Coke, far too over priced! Overall the food was definitely nice enough and very well priced (£39 for two drinks, starters, mains, rice, popadoms and chutney, garlic naan) so we’ll definitely be back next time we stay in the borders.

Expectations were low on a Monday night with everything closed. This place doesn’t look like much but someone is doing something right out the back. Peshwari naan was properly fresh. Dishes all tasty and obviously home made. Suggestions, slightly bigger portions, cook the poppadoms to order.

What a wonderful find in a small town like Jedburgh - the front of house staff were two charming Scottish sisters with great Indian chefs cooking the food. Very interesting dishes with a twist on the normal 'Indian menu' - a definite recommendation.

Booked a table for my husband, daughter and myself 730pm. We have used this restaurant many tines for takeaways. Was already very busy. We were seated and after 20 minutes had to ask for someone to come and takes drink order. We also asked that they take our food order as we had waited so long. 3 tables came in after us and they had drink order taken before us. We had poppadums and drinks came after we finished them. We were asked after 40 minutes what we had ordered for starters. Again 3 tables had been served their food. We told them again what we had ordered. My chicken tikka starter was cold after waiting an hour. I was hungry I could tell it had been cooked but was cold. Told them when they eventually came to get plates. I was told we will take 10% off bill. We were served our main course at 9.40. 2 hours and 20 minutes after being seated. Other tables round about were complaining also. Tables that came in after us had left. When bill came it said starters were not being charged. On checking the bill the cost of the food was high with no cost allocated beside it. When checking the menu the difference between what we had been charged and the menu price was the cost of the starters. When I said to the waitress I wasn’t happy with the bill she said what do you think is wrong with it. Eventually they took the price of starters off. No telephone numbers were taken for Track and Trace. Will not be back.

Evening meal towards the end of August. Name appears changed to Taj Tandoori.Food was average to good, but whole experience spoilt by gross lack of attention to COVID recommendations/rules. Only one member of staff on floor - unmasked. No attempt to make a record for track and trace. Capped at end of meal by “cash only” - so no footprint left for tracing. This was the only exception in the pubs and restaurants we visited in 10 days. Will not return.

Had a fantastic curry takeaway from Jed Tandoori tonight. Vindaloo was double spicy as I like it. Rogan Josh was fresh and flavoursome. If you're a die hard bright red chicken tikka lover this comes in a more orange tone but the flavour was not compromised. Finally the poppadom and pickle tray was top notch. Great takeaway if you're staying at the nearby holiday park. WILL BE BACK

Chose pakora for starter, the batter was perfect, crisp and dry, chicken tasted great - with a nice light touch of salad, accompanied with amazing tasty dip. For the main course we all had 4 different dishes, delicious and ideally spiced, served on a hot plate, and a food warmer tray, rice was great and nan bread was absolutely magic, one of the company asked for specific dip and it was made fresh from scratch. Ideal size portions, quality not quantity.

Tasted better had set meal for 2 X2 starter could have ate myself very skimpy 5 pieces for two people ? Had Pathia & pasanda couldn't differ between the two flavours I can make better myself & wish I did .garlic bread & rice were tasteless so unfortunately will definitely not order from there again

Had our first visit to this excellent restaurant in Jedburgh.Although it was only 5 O’clock, it was a nice quiet restaurant and only another table dining.( that’s how I like my restaurants)The service was great and the staff were very welcoming .Certainly be back for another visit!!!Keep up the good work!!!

We visited on a week night in late October so it was very quiet. It's a pleasant atmosphere with good service. The food was superb! Would definitely go again.

We pre booked in a party of 27 for a Saturday evening and we called an hour before arrival to add an extra 3 settings which was no problem.The restaurant gave us a discount for having the large booking and offered us a good rate for pickle trays, starter, curry of choice and rice/nan. The staff were very friendly and coped with our chaos well. To be fair the food was all pre ordered which obviously helped the kitchen which also had other tables to deal with.Would highly recomend and such an improvement on the previous restaurant that it replaced.The new paint job looks also great.

Food is outstanding, on this occasion i had lamb madras, the lamb was beautifully cooked and tender. My 6 yr old Son had the chicken korma which he loved. The restaurant is immaculate with good lighting, the staff are lovely and so friendly and it is very good value for money. We are regulars now. Highly recommend

I visited here with a group of friends whilst on a boys trip north of the border. First impressions weren’t great as the waiter insisted a bottle of Chilean red wine was the same as the South African wine I had ordered, maybe he needs to brush up on his Geography but the wine was fine so no complaints. Food wise, well all I can say is the chef made four hungry blokes happy, we couldn’t fault it and all of us agreed that it was very good. The waiter started off a bit cold but he warmed up as the night went on and proved to be a really decent helpful guy. Would we return? Most definitely!!!

Ate there for the second time last night. Passing through the town so we planned to pop in again as the food was good the first time. Th e young waitress could do with some training. Once we got our table the water was delivered to the wrong table to start with. I ended up going up to the counter to order other drinks as no one seemed to notice me trying to get their attention. My beer had something floating in it. I told the waitress and she promptly took her finger and scooped it out and told me it looked like a bit of Naan bread...... I’ll leave that there. We ordered our food. It was quick enough to come and was really tasty but was wrong. The mixed meats was in my wife’s and mine was just chicken. Wrong way round and as we like different levels of spice we couldn’t swap. They did offer to remake them but it had been a long drive and we were both ready to eat so just had them . They did reduce the bill slightly. What we had was really tasty but the few issues knocked the rating down. I could have done lower but the food is tasty.

Visit the Taj tandoori regularly. The food is amazing. Best Indian I have ever eaten. Service is fantastic, although on a few occasions we have picked up on who we assume to be the manager.. being so hard and somewhat disrespectful to the waitresses and at times in front of us and I must admit it makes me feel very uncomfortable, I can't imagine what the poor women feel like. The girls are trying to solve an issue and he comes storming over not listening to the issue and not understanding said problem, and we go away with no answer. My advice would be for him to stay away from serving and let the team carry on their amazing work.

We chose this place because the menu displayed outside referred to fixed-price meal deals for one or two people which seemed good value. However, on arrival we were disappointed to be told that these were not available to eat-in customers, only takeaway ones. The food was tasty, but every trick in the book was used to get us to buy more drinks, dishes etc. and the sting in the tail was that they don't take credit cards, meaning a trip up the road to a cashpoint.

Menu has many different surprising dishes from different regions in India. Food is well-prepared and tasty and spicy means spicy. Staff is friendly but a bit hasty. Important missing items are tea (and coffee), chai milk tea, lassie, kulfi ice. We did not want any alcohol or soda, so we got a multifruit juice from a package.

Waited quite a while for our food. Draft lager was pretty flat, i couldn't drink mine. Waiting staff seemed very new and a little nervous but were very pleasant. My curry was very strangely sweet, i ate it but didn't enjoy it so if in the area i don't think i'd visit again.

Having heard all the good reviews we decided to order a takeaway. When we arrived to collect ours, we were impressed with what we saw being sent to tables. So thought we were on to a winner. Unfortunately that was not the case. Every dish we ordered tasted the same (very sweet). The madras just tasted like a basic vegetable curry. A big let down an experience I don’t want to repeat.

The Taj Tandoori (formerly the Toobaz) opened recently under new management and it has been refurbished tastefully. The selection of dishes is excellent and the food so far has been delicious. It is not "fast food" but any wait is worth it because everything is freshly cooked and prepared with great care. The flavours are lively and the quantities are sensible at reasonable prices. At present, cards cannot be accepted for payment, but I hope this will soon change. However, there is a free cash machine at the Bank of Scotland directly opposite the restaurant.

The staff are lovely, food is fantastic and very authentic. Delivery first class. The best Indian around in 50 miles !!! Just please try it out Ull be shocked how great it is. Trust me when I say it is the best and I’ve been all over the south, north and South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and this is great food !!

Can not fault this little place the Food was delicious,fresh, and absolutely perfect. It has has been refurbished to a lovely standard, very modern and clean, food was so so, service painfully slow, 2 young girls who have no customer service and a manager who has no idea at all about any aspect of customer service so staff dont have a standard to aspire to. So disappointed in food, were told there were no onion bhaji??,, there might not be any mixed kebabs either??, really?? Wont be going back, such a shame as jedburgh sorely lacks a decent Indian restaurant

Immaculate newly refurbished restaurant and takeaway, the food is amazing and the staff were lovely, I highly recommended, a few complaints regarding the time people have had to wait for food but its a new business and you will always get teething problems, I for 1 will most definitely be back good luck to you all x

We are on holiday in Ancrum and drove past this place when going to the Jedburgh Coop. Despite its low position in the Trip Advisor rankings for the area, we noticed that this was because it is a new business so we thought we would give it a go.

Just enjoyed a delicious take away from the newly refurbished Indian. Can not fault it, everything was fresh and full of flavour! Will definitely be back, it’s worth a visit!

This restaurant has just opened and it's a very attractive place to eat. Staff are very attentive and there is a large choice of curries and side dishes. All three of us had terrific food and we would certainly recommend the restaurant heartily. Stunning quality at very reasonable prices.

Me and my boyfriend were staying in Kielder and really fancied a takeaway, drove over an hour for this Indian and an hour back. Still hot when we got back and it was absolutely delicious! Totally worth the long journey!! (Enjoyed the drive too)

Not the prettiest outside. You could easily walk on by. Dont the food is fabulous. Some of the best Indian food we've had in a while. The decor and furnishings are dated but the cuisine more than makes up for it. Very succulent chicken curry dishes. Next time in Jedburgh we'll dine here again.

They take a lot of orders for takeaway, and it was a quiet when we visited. We were early in the evening. We ordered two starters and two mains. The food was lovely, and well presented. The waitress was friendly, and we didn't need to wait too long for our meal. We'll definitely be visiting again, when we're in the area.

Having never visited jedburgh before this place was recommended to us by the owner of the guest house we were staying in.

I'm not really sure what the complaints are about. The food was delicious and served quickly. The service was friendly. The prices were reasonable. We really enjoyed ourselves and will go back when next passing through!
