Jam in a Jar in Haringey

Under the new management and it is now unrecognisable. Proud to say that I was the first paying customer of the Jam and had been a regular customer for years. It was a unique place in Haringey  attracting music and art lovers, young and old. Popped in recently for drinks and nibbles with a few friends, and I found it empty with one incompetent barmaid. Stay away.

Sadly I believe this bar has recently changed ownership and it has gone down the gutter. It’s a shame because it was a great local spot before. I went in for a drink with a friend on Friday evening and ordered 2 negronis. The first drinks that were brought over to us were very visibly not negronis and after a sip it was clear that it was a concoction made with whiskey. Having thought that this was due to a misunderstanding I explained this at the bar and asked for our correct drinks and clearly pointed them out on the menu (which had all the ingredients written below). The second round of drinks came out and they looked much more negroni-like. However after a sip of this new, sickly sweet drink, it was clear that this again wasn’t a negroni. I went back to the bar and asked what was in my drink. The barista said it was Gordon’s (although I could see a bottle of pink gin out behind her that looked like it was just used and the bar was quite quiet), Prosecco and then she said Campari but then corrected herself and said they ran out of Campari? Got our money back but wish I hadn’t wasted my time going here.

This restaurant is awful with credit card fraud! Do not ever use your credit card here because they charge you for 2000 ponds!!!!!!!!

With the atmosphere of a New York dive bar, excellent cocktails and delicious food, I couldn't recommend Jam in a Jar enough. I celebrated my birthday with a friend on Bank Holiday Monday and enjoyed the mediterranean breakfast and a particularly well-made negroni. The staff are always really welcoming, chilled and friendly. Can't wait to come back on one of their live music nights soon.

There was a change of ownership at the end of December. We have been twice to try and support the new owners but unfortunately, the place has no heart, no character, no real vibe anymore. The staff seem very inexperienced and disinterested. The music they play is basically elevator music, the playlist previously was always varied and upbeat. The walls are bare of art and the friendly staff under the previous management are sorely missed. We had a couple of nice espresso martinis on our first visit but only stayed for a couple of drinks due to the lack of atmosphere. We decided to go for brunch today. We ordered two classic breakfasts but they were very disappointing, very greasy, particularly the mushroom, lukewarm, with chewy bacon. The ingredients were all as per the previous offer but not cooked with any care, seemed like everything was already cooked and just reheated. I don’t think our breakfasts were cooked freshly. We were told there was no butter, then given “butter” which was actually margarine. They had run out of madri. I ordered an earl grey tea, and was given the wrong tea first which was then replaced, I then ordered another but was given breakfast tea instead and when I pointed this out the waitress said they’d run out of earl grey, she’d substituted it but didn’t tell me. The menu had a huge amount of spelling mistakes which shows a real lack of attention to detail. Cips instead of chips, goath cheese instead of goat etc. We won’t be eating there again anytime soon. I hope they can find their feet and make improvements but they have a lot of work to do.

Unfortunately, they have changed the menu and the food is now less good and less exciting. We went for brunch and mine was nice but my friends were not happy with their full English which was +£12. There were mistakes, items over/undercooked, items missing etc The service has always been a bit hap-hazard and whilst they are nice there are usually issues - occasionally you can get a waiter who is a bit curt, not v friendly The food is acceptable but it USED TO BE AMAZING. Ambiance is nice and toilets much improved from before. I really hope it gets its mojo back. Remember, if there are issues with food and service, make sure you let them know so they can improve. We got 25% off our bill for the issues. Next time we will go to one of the many other options down green lanes

Beautiful vibes to share with whoever you want. Friendly staff that really make every customer feel special, the food is absolutely mouth watering and mood-lifting. An experience to repeat as many times as possible!

I will start by saying we have been to Jam in a Jar many times, and the service, food, ambiance and wait times have always bee five stars. However, we visited on Saturday with another couple of of friends. We were told it has now changed to 'Brazilian/English fusion', but that the food would still be excellent. Firstly, the menu wasn't exciting for a group of 4 vegetarians, whereas the old menu had so many delicious options. When we asked the waiter if the £10 omlette was served with salad or anything, we got a curt no. We asked for some tap water and the waitress has to ask a colleague for instructions. We ordered and waited so long for our food, and the whole while we could see dishes being sent back and hear shouting in the kitchen. When the food arrived, the eggs were not cooked (raw whites) and had to be sent back. I had corn cakes which were way too salty. Everything was very average, and expensive for what it was. When the waiter took the plates we said we weren't impressed. He also dropped a knife when clearing the plates that hit my friend on the arm, and never apologised. Another waiter (this one very friendly) later told us it was the first day of their new menu. I'm sorry, but who runs a new menu on a Saturday, without doing a soft run first?! When we asked for the bill, we got brought the card machine but no actual bill. We of course wanted to check everything was correct before paying, especially as the service had been so bad. As we were about to leave, the chef came out, we thought she was going to apologise and perhaps offer a voucher or something, but all she said was sorry for the shouting and she hadn't realised we were sitting near the kitchen! We have her feedback anyway and she didn't seem bothered. She also had a very dirty eye bandage hanging off her face. It's such a shame because this was a gem of a place previously, but can honestly say we will never go here again.

Good quality food, friendly service - have been a few times and it’s our favourite brunch spot Refurb has made the place much bigger, nicer toilets and everyone and service attentive

5 star overall. Great atmosphere , lovely stuff , great coffee and food , amazing signature cocktails , fantastic live performances. I highly recommend it.

Eleven of us met for brunch. The service was great especially considering the size of our group. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I would love somewhere like this near my house.

Amazing breakfast. We had the full english, and the ‘formerly the healthy’ - everything was cooked perfectly, and the portions were very generous. Staff were friendly and attentive, will definitely return!

Just went for a drink to do some work. Wanted a smoothie but apparently these finish at 3:30pm. Tried to walk out the ‘exit’ as Covid restriction in place and was told the door was locked which is not very safe and is a fire hazard. The staff were lovely apart from one guy who was not very customer friendly. I would not return based on this particular individuals attitude. It is also not good practice to lock the main exit door from the venue.

Fui a almorzar con mi novia y estaba delicioso. Mi novia tomó el desayuno vegetariano y yo tomé el desayuno saludable y a los dos nos encantó. Tuvimos un cóctel descarado después de nuestro brunch. Nos dijeron que había bandas en vivo los fines de semana que definitivamente iremos allí pronto. El personal era amable, el ambiente era frío. Deffo volveremos para disfrutar de música en vivo y cócteles.

I had two delicious meals here in Nov 2018. The food was faultless, tasty and incredibly good value!

Literally the best coffe I have tasted in London, and I am a local :) Finally someone understands exactly what espresso machiato means and not burning the precious coffee. <3The place is cosy and fun, perfect for a chat with friends/ family or even an afternoon romantic date. We have not tried the kitchen, but will definitely come back when they play live music.

Popped in for a spot of brunch on a Sunday morning based on a recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. Great food, great service and a nice little bit of outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine. If you’re in the vicinity of this place and hungry would highly recommend. The prices are fair, the portions are big and the quality is great

Disappointing visit to this place. Staff ignorant and lacking customer service skills. Signature cocktails so promising on the menu but served watery and tasteless. Previously visited this place 2 years ago and drinks were delicious, staff cheerful and ambient great. What a disappointment now!

Un colega y yo tuvimos un almuerzo espléndido aquí. Nuestra camarera fue amable y acogedora, y nos trajo dos vasos de agua cuando nos sentamos. Pedimos huevos Benedict con salmón ahumado y aguacate molido en pan de masa agria con dos huevos escalfados agregados para una buena medida. Esto fue regado con limonada casera y una coca cola de dieta. Qué puedo decir, la comida estaba bien presentada, muy bien cocinada y las raciones eran abundantes. En general, calificaría mi experiencia de este lugar como 5? Vale la pena una visita y la música fue ecléctica! ?

We come here for breakfast every weekend. Excellent service, excellent food and excellent place. Sometimes the have live music, nice beer and friendly people.

Called in around 10:00 on a Sunday. Great service, very speedy. Wonderful coffee & fresh orange. Eggs Ben & full English - both excellent, generous portion & good value, def call in again when in the area.

Was in London visiting friends and we had a great brunch here. Lovely bloody mary (a selection of three variants!) and some fantastic brunch/breakfast choices for food. We agonised for ages and all got different things, all of which were brilliant. Friendly staff and relaxed vibe.

The staff is friendly and the food not bad, but the place needs T&C;, especially the toilet. The light was flashing, the toilet was blocked, the sink tap wobbled. It's so baby friendly but there wasn't a place to change the baby. With the stiff competition on green lanes now, and with Beans and Barley renovating, I think Jam in a Jar should definitely keep. Up. Shame to be letting small things like that slip!

A great breakfast menu with different to 'standard' choices. The 'healthy breakfast' is very good. Good coffee.

We did not have to walk far to find this independent, fresh gem of a restaurant, Cafe bar.

Après notre repas du soir, nous nous sommes arrêtés boire un verre dans ce pub à la déco très originale! J'ai pris un énorme chocolat chaud super délicieux. Mon compagnon a pris une bière très bonne également. La serveuse était très agréable! Merci pour sa gentillesse! Le tout agrémenté d'une petite musique cubaine/Argentine. On était au top!

Fun in evenings for drinks and music. Fun later for general silliness. Chilled vibe in the day too, offering good food and chatty customers and staff. I'll keep coming here.

Ho fatto un brunch con amici e mi sono trovata molto bene: selezione ampia con possibilità di diverse combinazioni, oppure si può scegliere (come ho fatto io) un piatto unico, che sicuramente vi lascerà a stomaco pieno, senza andare via a tasche vuote!

Had good reports of Jam in a Jar and on visiting for brunch I wasn't disappointed.

Every time I go to J in a J they get my order exactly right and the vibe is lovely. The recent art collection is terrific too.

Went for a quick dinner and ended up staying for the band as they were amazing and the cocktails were very well made by friendly bar staff. Cosy atmosphere and very enjoyable evening! Would definitely go back!

I use this place for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Food is always great and its always presented differently, not something I have noticed anywhere else. Staff are always excellent. Sunday brunches are my personal favorite but you are likely to have to wait for a table, trust me though it is worth it.

Happened to pop in spontaneously and I'm glad I did! It's a quirky little spot with some Turkish inspired items on the menu which is made with a twist. I ordered the menemen which was such a huge portion and tasted so fresh and it was very filling. I also had the hellim wrap and the chicken and kale salad, all of which came with very large portions. Very good service and I was told in the night the atmosphere picks up and completely changes from the day time atmosphere.

Went for breakfast and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the music. :) the scrambled eggs and toast were really yummy and portions are good. Coffee was good as well. Nice surprise in the neighborhood.

This great local bar-cafe-restaurant (also live music venue) has a lot going for it. You can go for breakfast, brunch, a bigger meal, just a drink, a cocktail, to hang out with friends, listen to a live band... it's good at any time. The atmosphere changes throughout the day but there's always good vibes.

This is a popular spot with good breakfasts and lunches. At night it a bar with music and fills up with locals. It's popular and you should check it out.

Jam in a Jar is a great little venue, with very friendly staff. I opted for the poached eggs on toast, with extra bacon. It was ok. Both of my eggs were over-poached. They weren't hard but they was no oozing. Luckily, I ordered extra bacon, otherwise the dish might have been too bland. The bacon was great. I also had a freshly squeezed orange juice, which was lovely.While my brunch wasn't the greatest, it wasn't bad. It's certainly not something that I would hold against the place.

I visited with a friend the day time while they were serving brunch. The cafe itself is lovely, and the staff very friendly and chatty. It was fairly busy but we found a spot to sit. Service was good and fast, and they are clearly serious about breakfast! Ordered the biggest one on the menu and with a juice it added up to about £13. The portion size was very generous and I struggled to finish it - however I wasn't quite sure it was worth the price tag. I was perhaps expecting a bit more flavour to the meats. Overall though, would recommend and I'd love to go back and try the cocktails!

I've visited Jam in a Jar many many times and it's definitely my favourite bar in the area. The decor is nice, staff are friendly and they have excellent live music at the weekends. If your in the area, give it a go!

Went for a really lovely breakfast - perfect poached eggs and massive portions. The only shame was that we couldn't drink prosecco as alcohol is not served until 11 - guess I have to sleep in later next time!

Calming and soothing atmosphere and wonderful music. Small but very good selection of draft beers and very tasty food. I am there almost every day and it is all positive. Cocktails are a bit expensive though.

Fantastic brunch and great staff, was gutted when I walked past and it had closed but now re open and better than ever! Massive fan will 100% be returning with more friends!

I was there with my girlfriend, we ate an amazing burger (double onion or something like that), some nachos and Ale and Stouts beers. Everything was great but the best of all it was the attention of one of the guys, it's a pity that we don't ask for his name, he was very kindly and smiling.

Love the food in the day... All the usual crowd pleasers; poached eggs, avocado, smoked salmon etc. At night it's strictly burgers, a choice of four. They taste great and the uncomplicated menu both fits the laid back atmosphere and allows the staff to concentrate all their efforts on delivering the all important fantastic tasting cocktails. Live music at night means Friday's are very popular. Great place, check it out.

Excellent food and drinks. The menu provides many healthy options as well as vegetarian dishes. Would definitely recommend and go again! Glad I found this little gem in the area!

A delicious and great luxury burger and beer meal. Fabulous atmosphere, fantastic evening with charming waiting staff.

Went there with a friend the burgers and the nachos we had was very yummy yummy, they also do live music very good musician plays there. we will come back.

As a world music enthusiast, I feel blessed to have such a wonderful live music venue on my doorstep, that is also a great, intimate little local bar. Brilliant live bands range from New Orleans jazz to Balkan music with twist; from traditional Cuban to African fusion; from flamenco to what possibly sounds like Italian punk. The best music in the jar often cannot categorized into neat boxes as it crosses so many generic and cultural boundaries. The atmosphere is really friendly and the jar is run by a lovely bunch of people, who create a great vibe. By day, it's very different; a chilled cafe/bar serving excellent breakfasts and burgers.

Really nice food - cute little mini burgers! Often there is live music and there is a good selection of drinks. The staff are super friendly and it is nicely done out with a big old chesterfield sofa and retro light bulbs.

Do you know what, I absolutely love, love, love Jam in a Jar and it reminds me of my youth interailing round Europe and the sort of cool little bars you founbd if you ventured a little braver out of the tourist hotspots. This place is all about the brilliant experience they provide and the atmosphere they have created here, it is just a lovely place, simple as that and lucky me, it is now my local. Great staff, good drinks, amazing live music and something to eat as you go along. This isn't a "foodie" gaff but I would wager good money they don't have pretentions to be anything of the sort although I must stress you won't be disappointed if you have a bite to eat in Jam in a Jar, it is uncomplicatedly delicious.

Great place to spend a Friday or Saturday night, listening to excellent live music while drinking non wallet destroying cocktails, with the lights turned low and the rain pouring outside it is difficult to convince yourself to leave and go home.

Went here for a big staff do this week...23 of us descended on the poor beggars on a freezing cold quiet Monday night on the Green Lanes with the intention of fully drinking the place dry. Anyway, what we got was the warmest welcome you could wish for, a top drinks list and simple but excellent food....all of which I don't think does this fine place justice. Any one can hire a good chef, pick a nice drinks list and be cheerful on arrival but what sets this place apart is the easy going vibe the team behind Jam in a Jar have created. Great music playing, a relaxed happy team, friendly locals, nice decor....add it all together and you've got a lovely, lovely place to spend some time. It isn't easy and many try but you can't fake the good vibe Jam in a Jar creates and it feels continental, happy, at ease with itself, the antithesis of insular stiff upper lip UKIP-ery....the sort of understated, cool bar you get in European cities if you wander a little off the tourist map. They do Live Music many nights of the week which gets packed out too, which I look forward to enjoying. Keep on keeping on Jam in a Jar!

I have been a couple of times to this place and it never disappoints. Very nice relaxed atmosphere, excellent for a Friday or Saturday night out if you don't want to rush into central London. The place is usually packed for a reason.I still have not had the chance to try the food but will definitely do at some point.

The food is superb great bar food to start your evening drinking and enjoying live music thus to Sunday night.Day time menu superb, lovely relaxed atmosphere.The manager and his staff are lovely.The live music is of a very high standard.I can really recommend The Jam in the Jar for a very good feel good factor evening.

Jam in a Jar is one of those few places were you can have amazing gigs with really good Jazz, Blues or eastern music while you feel like at home.Good food, nice atmosphere and great concerts on the weekend.

Oh dear. Things did not go well on Saturday morning at Jam in a Jar. It's quite hard to know how to rate them for it! Maybe after I tell the story, it will become clear.So, Jam in a Jar is sort of a cafe-bar hybrid. We came during the day, so no live music or anything, but they have a small breakfast menu and a few tables. It's a very chill, hipster-looking place. They do fill up, and we had to cram into quite a small table (four of us) because the staff had allowed one man dining alone to sit at a 4-top. I think they should be a little more careful about that. Eventually, we managed to move and get more elbow room. We ordered some coffee/tea and then settled in to wait for our lunches. We waited a very long time. I enjoyed my pot of peppermint tea, finished the whole thing, and we started realizing that other people who came in after us had been served first. At least 30 minutes had passed since we'd ordered. Around this time, the lights in the kitchen went out. A server came round and said that they'd had a power outage, and we'd have to wait even longer for our food. We were starving, and complained a bit - they quite kindly brought us out two muffins and two brownies! Too much really, but I must admit - they were delicious. We shared the muffins and nibbled the brownies while we waited. It was at least an hour, if not more, before our breakfasts arrived. We were also given more complimentary drinks during our long wait - another coffee, a juice, etc. In the end, the sweets were free (as they were offered to us to tide us over) and so were the second round of coffees. The breakfasts themselves were quite good - my scrambled eggs were soft and placed on yummy grainy toast. Since I don't like mushrooms, they gave me an extra piece of halloumi instead which is an upgrade if I ever saw one! Sauteed spinach, juicy grilled tomatoes, tasty new potatoes and beans. It was actually a great vegetarian breakfast, and I think it was only £6 or £7. Great price for London. As we finished eating, one of the cooks came by and apologized, saying that before the power had gone out, he'd just realized that our ticket had fallen onto the floor, so we'd been forgotten first and then the electricity issue happened on top of that. I know that the power outage can't be helped (or can it - overloaded circuits maybe? It's not like the power went out in the whole neighborhood), but we were really unhappy with the long wait. An hour is pretty unacceptable all round to wait after you order! The sweets were nice, but we really could've done better with just the muffins for us to share, and then our breakfast should probably have been comped. An hour's wait, to be forgotten then inconvenienced by the power....it was pretty bad. We really enjoyed our meals in the end, but our friends were embarrassed and apologetic and I'm not sure we could justify returning again! I appreciate how they tried to rectify the situation, which has certainly salvaged them from a worse review. Sounds like they have some problems with consistency here, so don't go if you're starving, and if they are having an "on" day you are in for a treat! But I don't think we'll be giving it another go - couldn't handle another starving hour waiting for brunch! Maybe 3 stars is too generous, but the food was good and they were kind to us and gave us lots of free things....2 stars seems too mean? They would've had 4 for the food and atmosphere, down to 2 with the waiting issue, and back up to 3 because of their apologies and comps.
