Very disappointed after all the hype we had heard about it being best fish and chips ever. Can understand why it's closed down now

The best chip shop in the country,the owner,Dennis,is a legend. The chips are the nicest I've ever had and the pies are just wonderful..great gravy too! If you are in Ilkeston and want fish and chips,head here first and ask for a mix and fish!.... Edit,sadly Jackson's closes for good in April 23 when Dennis finally takes his well deserved retirement

Yet another Fish Friday visit to this popular chippie, food is piping hot and a very good portion size with excellent service from the staff.

Good food and service just a little issue of opening times, today (27.8.21) says open from 1600 till 2100 u fortunately when I got there for 1730 all the doors were closed. Small tip can you please amend your opening out on your web site please

Decided to try their fish and chips tonight, delicious, fresh fish and still hot when hubby bought them home.

Jacko's Chippie is an Ilson staple that's been around for some 60 years. 60 years says that it can't be that bad and actually it's great food served in an efficient but very friendly manner. If you're a regular, they'll remember you! My wife loves the deep fried cheese 'n' onion fritters whereas I have a particular penchant for a chicken leg - all served with a portion of properly cooked chips, steeped in salt & vinegar. Give it a go, but be prepared to queue as it's quite popular at tea time.

Yet another fish & chips Friday, staff always friendly and willing to have a chat, food piping hot and as tasty as ever, you would expect nothing less from this chippie.

Popped in on dinner break. Ordered chicken curry and small chips. Price board said 2 pound for curry and 1.80 0r 1.60 for chips, can't remember exactly but got charged a fiver. Bit cheeky. Nice food though.

I popped into this chippie today, just to get prices for chips only, as I only usually have chips, the chippie has an excellent social distancing one way system, unique as he has created it by using wood and potatoe sacks - the shop is excellent clean, the colour scheme is really bright, giving that clean fresh appeal - the owner is very pleasant with extremely high standard of customer service - the best in derbyshire -

Great food, and prices, home made pies and fishcakes. A great Ilkeston institution, it is cash only though so have your money ready.

Keep on frying Dennis, only one more year to go to reach the magical 60 years. Always a warm and friendly greeting from the staff and if you have not tried the fish and chips from here you are missing out.

Very much one of the better English Chippies... If not one of the ONLY English chippies Quality depends on the staff doing the frying but tends to balance around good to absolutely bloody gorgeous

Pit stop Juction 25 M1 landed up finding a gem of of a takeaway. Jackson’s chippie Ticks the box for traditional, good value, and quality. My chicken and chips was awesome. My partners cod and chips was faultless(even with a portion of chicken curry) which have to say was the best taste combo I have had in years. I have now put a reminder in my sat nav. So we can drop by next time we are passing. I understand the owner has been in business for a few years and it clear his passion hasn’t faded. Best Chippie by far.

I have been going to this chippy since I was a young girl. Always will be the best chippy in Ilson. Dennis and his staff will always give you a warm welcome. Best chips, best mushy peas, fish is amazing and the gravy is the best you will ever taste. I cant say enough good things about this place. If you haven't been treat yourself you will not be disappointed.

I was a weekly visitor of this place as a child and visited again in August - I was not disappointed. Cod, chips and mushy peas were really first rate. Just as I remembered them all those years ago served by friendly staff and amazingly, the same proprietor, Dennis Jackson! It’s really nice to know that some things never change and won’t leave so long in between visits next time.

I've been visiting this chip shop for the past forty years and it has been consistently brilliant...the chips are the best I've tasted and the fish and pies are wonderfully fresh and well cooked ..the gravy is to die for! Dennis,the owner is a lovely chap and is still there most days despite being eighty now. Highly recommended.

Best chippie I've ever been to...and I've tried a few in my lifetime, consistently good for the past 40 years...yes 40 years! Dennis the owner is a local legend. I recommend the melt in your mouth slow roasted chicken portions with stuffing and onions and his speciality the chunky 'Chicken Curry'...a bit pricey at 2 quid a pot ...but well worth it! The chips are good to ;)! Generally it's all great value, good sized portions, well cooked and always tasty!

This is becoming one of our regular places to get our Friday fish&chips lunch. There are always people waiting to be served, fish is cooked to order, lovely chips and staff always have a minute to chat.

Just a portion of chips. But at £1.60 it was small and most of those were small and overcooked. The oil was fresh though. Served quickly and the staff member was nice and courteous.

Only travelled 12000 miles to get fish, mix and curry sauce. Worth every step of the trip!

Consistently good over the years I've been going. There is a skill in cooking chips and they've got it.

Only downside is there is no card machine (chip&pin/contactless) onsite so had to go to the bank and come back. Other people may not have come back and possibly gone somewhere else instead and loosing you business. Invest in a card machine and this would be a 5 star rating.

I never knew that this place existed until my Mam said lets give it a try for our weekly fish and chip lunch. It is hidden away but it is well worth finding, service was quick and food is tasty and good value.

Had a great chicken and chips from here. Chips were delicious and their fish cake and other little bits to die for.

Been around since 1961. Great old school fish and chips and home made delicious pies. Gravy, mushy peas, all old school and served by different ages of folks - like a family atmosphere.

With out a doubt the best fish,chips and peas I've ever had, and I've had many, reminds me of what they used to and should taste like.
