Jacks Chippy in Orkney Islands

Came here for a nice fish and chips and did not disappoint. lovely place, great fresh fish, chips are amazeballs. Tried some of my friend's carbonara and it was astonishing.

this place has the best fish I have tasted it tastes like it has been freshly caught and battered straight into the fryer and the chip are too die for with amazing quality and good portions for the price

I always go for the deep fried scallops! Amazing! I don't bother with chips, I'd rather have more scallops! We are going again fo my 75th Birthday!

Be careful eating Jack’s fish n chips , Jack’s raises the bar so very high. It is going to be very hard to find this quality at this price anywhere else. Delivered to our boat and wow. Monkfish and chips , just brilliant.

Fish was absolutely delicious. Chips appalling! They used to make proper hone made chippy chips but cheap frozen chips which weren’t even all cooked. Such a shame as this spoiled the carry out a bit.

Delicious fish but chips left a lot to be desired… def not home made.. Appeared to be frozen chips.. Average but not what expected.

Open Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The takeaway was really nice. The service was extremely efficient and friendly. Although we didn't indulge, they also sell puddings with custard. Very tempting.

As they only serving fish and chips on two days per week we were looking forward to trying the fish and chips. The battered fish was passable but the chips were not good. I suspect they were frozen, which considering they advertise themselves as “Jack’s Chippy”, is a bit of a disappointment. The staff were friendly and helpful and the shop that operates throughout the rest of the week has some excellent items.

The best deep fried haddock I’ve ever had. Lovely service - shame it’s not open more but that’s what makes it so special!

Fish and chips here wonderful! You book your meal and just pick it up - very good value. We had homemade tartare sauce with the fish. The chips of very high standard.

Just the job to fill you up on a windy day after exploring the cliffs and walks on this amazing Island. Large portions of superb quality fish nd chips. Only available Wed and Sat so make sure you don’t miss it.

Siamo capitati proprio la sera in cui questo locale è aperto. Abbiamo preso halibut e coda di rospo. Molto buono. Attesa infinita, un sacco di gente. Solo take away ma fuori ci sono due tavoli da pic nic o si mangia in riva al mare.

Pêche du jour donc rarissime pour nous ! Attention, c'est vrai que l'attente est très très longue pour être servi mais il vaut mieux aller sur place que de commander par téléphone car il y a parfois des choses en plus que sur la carte. Ce soir nous avons pu déguster des coquilles Saint Jacques énormes et on ne nous en sert pas 3 !!! En attendant profitez de la colonie de phoques dans les rochers ! Rapport qualité / prix plus que correct pour la qualité et la fraîcheur proposées. Attention ouvert seulement le mercredi et le samedi soir de 16h30 à 19h30.

Our group of 16 were very pleased with our dinner from Jacks chippy during our visit to Westray. We sent in an order for collection at dinner time and it was ready just when we wanted it in spite of the size of the order. Portions were large and the fish in particular was highly praised. It was good to see a couple of veggie choices on the menu too which went down well. We would recommend a visit to Jacks

I am always surprised at the wide range of choices at this chippie,all cooked fresh and always greeted by a smiling staff,a very hard working family who have put Westray produce firmly on the map

Tip van mede bed en breakfast gasten. Heerlijk verse fish & chips gehaald en opgegeten in onze B&B. Tijdens het wachten hebben we gezellig kunnen praten met de locals die hier ook hun afhaalmaaltijd kwamen halen als wel ook met andere touristen op het eiland

An excellent fish shop which sells superb fish and chips on Wednesday & Saturday evenings. Extra marks for serving in a paper bag not polystyrene!

Dat het goed moet zijn blijkt wel uit het aantal bezoekers, voornamelijk lokaal. Je kan kiezen uit diverse soorten vis. De moot vis die je krijgt is passend bij de prijs, echt en grote moot goed smakende kabeljauw in ons geval. Ook de hoeveelheid patat is riant en ook goed gebakken. Je kan helaas niet ter plaatse eten van borden en met bestek, dat is jammer. Je moet nu je zout en eventueel azijn in de tas op de patat strooien/sprenkelen. Verder is de tartar saus die ze er bij leveren, tegen meerprijs, van goed smaak.

The freshest of fresh fish, and such a range. Open Weds and Sat evenings only, but definitely worth planning around that.

Excellent range of food and all freshly cooked to order. Quick with service and prices first class. The constant trail of locals coming in shows that it has got everything right.

We usually don't go to fish&chips; (we are not British...) but this one is so good it is not to be missed. The food is made to order and is excellent. Stored in good containers so you can take it to the other side of Westray and it will still be warm. There is a lot of choise in fish but they also have some Indian food which was also very nice.

Only fIsh and chips place and only 2 food outlets. Is part of a factory making relish etc. Great food, quick, good price, friendly. Well presented. Only draw back only open 2 nights a week. But then becoming off season and small population.

We had halibut and squid and got in the order queue just before the evening rush of locals. This is fish and chips at its best and in a fabulous location

Great fish and chips but often a long wait. More expensive than some chippies but I think the quality warrants this. Best to phone your order

We visited Jack's chippy whilst on a day out in Westray. The battered scallops were the best ever - deliciously soft and sweet. They were cooked perfectly. I think they cost £6.99 for 8 . It was a lovely warm sunny day so we were able to sit outside at the picnic table to eat them and watch the seals in the bay at the same time. It was perfect.

Wonderful fish - so fresh & tasty! We put in our order and while we were waiting went to photograph the seals opposite the chippy. We could ask for our order for a certain time and when we returned we skipped the big queue! It's a RDV not to be missed on Wednesdays & Saturdays on the island - everyone seems to go and it's so small you meet everyone you've met while touring the island during the day - great meeting place!

Dining out or in is rather limited on Westray Island, but Jacks Chippy comes to the rescue on Weds & Saturday evening with seafood take-out orders. And do order early because they close at 1930L.

This is a great place for takeout if you are in Pierowall on a Wed or Sat night. They are open 4:30 - 7:30. Try to place your order and then go back and pickup or sit by the water and enjoy the view while you wait for your takeout.

Jack's is amazing! We got salmon and cod, but I wish we had tried the monkfish, too. They also sell raw fish, jams, and ice cream. Beware, they're only open a few days a week.

Swift service with a smile and some good stories from the ladies behind the counter.Additional extra stuff obe can buy : nice range of preserves (jams & chutneys), fair trade chocolate and bespoke goodie hampers.

Visited a few times as on the Island for a month! Lovely fresh fish but a shame about the chips ! I suspect they were frozen ones! Had curry and rice on another night, which was obviously bought in from a catering company, OK though ! There parties were yummy though! Staff working there were helpful and friendly.

For a quick takeaway without breaking the bank, Jacks Chippy is a great place to go! Staff are friendly and very helpful in choosing your meals!

Service was great. We were lucky as they only cook a couple of days a week. The fish is very fresh and the batter was some of the best I have had. Portion sizes were good for the price too. Always good to have a pattie too.

You can't beat the Queenie Scallops Supper. Perfectly cooked, excellent chips, and service with a smile. All cooked to order, but time is of little relevance on Westray..

I was staying at my very good friend's in Westray Orkney and it was decided we would have a night with no cooking.

I have been lucky enough to have had Fish and Chips at Frankie's in Shetland which is the best ever. This is blinking close. To get it on Westray is the icing on the cake on a magical island. The monk fish is marvellous. The fact that it is a world class wet fish shop during the day too!

This is only open Wednesdays and Saturdays I think. Some things like squid sell out so get there early if you want something special. I had haddock, and it was amazing!

After our arrivial on Westray we really needed dinner. Our host recommened Jacks Chippy. It was really busy when we arrived. You could choose between many diffent fish, from typical haddock, cod, even monk fish. They offer other dishes like curries, too.

Great fish and chips, even delivered to the campsite for us, a bonus after a long day out on Papay. Highly recommended!

On our only wet day on Westray, we had fish and chips and a treat of scallops. Brilliant, punctual and reasonable price.

The fish and chips were lovely and good size portions. The fish was beautifully cooked and very fresh. Would definitely recommend but they only cook on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so pick your days for travelling to Westray if you want to try these fish and chips.

Fish & chips to die for! Lovely portions of freshly cooked fish & chips plus a variety of other nice things like curries or pasta dishes. Worth the 90-minute ferry trip to go there.

Not bad fish and chips but cooked to order so be prepared to wait. They do not know what batter or scraps are but they cook the fish in it?

I'm pretty sure the fish jumped straight out of the ocean & into the dep fryer. It's that fresh. In fact, most of the time Jimmy's is a seafood processing centre, only doing meals Wed & Sat nights. It's a great alternative to Westray's only other feesing spot at the hotel. It's not just fish & chips. There are other offerings, such as curry. The only downside is no inside eating. There are tables outside but not helpful when the weather turns. But otherwise, this is a great place for a feed!
