Sat in area by bar which is really for a waiting area to be seated in dining area. It was like Euston station. The service was terrible, we waited over 30 minutes before having to ask for drinks, another 20 minutes before chasing up our drinks. The menu was very limited to begin with and then we were told some items were not available to order and it was only 8pm. We ordered starters, waited another 20 minutes or so, to be told some of the starters were no longer available. Main courses were delicious but some of the accompaniments were not received. Would not recommend given the premium pricing. Waitresses need to be communicative as one attempted to pick up plates before some had finished without actually asking if we were finished.

Food was quite nice and okay for the price, we were given a complimentary cheesecake for a birthday in the group, which was nice. They were also quite accommodating for dietary preferences. Although one of the waiters made uncomfortable jokes with a hint of sexism when approached with a query.

This is a top notch Indian Restaurant. We were a large family group spanning a wide range of ages and there was something for everyone. The food is delicious, spicy of course but not brutally so and expertly prepared from quality ingredients. The service was efficient, relaxed and friendly with a particular mention of Saroj.

We arrived early for our 7pm booking, and were sat down with the drinks menu at comfortable sofas whilst our table was prepared. The restaurant is deceptively large, set over 2 floors, but our table for 2, in a corner booth downstairs, was still quiet and intimate. We ordered 2 chaat starters, followed by rogan josh, paneer, rice and naan. The food was delicious, but one warning! The chaat starters are large, and we struggled to finish our mains, so a very healthy appetite is required if you opt for starters. Service was prompt, polite and accurate, Kawal excelled. We would absolutely recommend itihaas, and will visit again when we come to Birmingham.

This spot is great for anyone, whether it be a family meal out like ours or a date night. The drinks were delicious and presented extremely well, with the starters bursting with flavour (like the samosa chaat) and the mains were the perfect balance of spice and taste, with the bread selection a perfect choice for indecisive people like us who love every type! The customer service was exceptional, and we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff, especially Kawal, who made the dinner magical with the expanding hand towels in hot water trick, and offered to do an encore when we said we loved it! Overall five stars, amazing experience and would recommend.

Not worth it for a special occasion! This was our second time coming here to celebrate my wife's birthday, hoping for a better experience, but we were disappointed again. Even with a reservation, we still had to wait 25 minutes for a table. Then another 20 minutes just to have our order taken, followed by 30 minutes waiting for starters. At that point, we didn’t even bother staying for mains because who knows how much longer that would’ve taken! To make things worse, the women’s toilets were a mess—only two cubicles, both dirty, and no toilet roll provided. For a place that charges these prices, basic cleanliness and maintenance should be expected. For the money spent, this place is not good value at all—slow service, long waits, and poor facilities. I wouldn’t recommend it for any special occasion—it’s just not worth the risk of ruining the night. Gave it a second chance and won’t be making that mistake again.

Staying at Bloc hotel this looked like a good, yet pricey, option for dinner. The popadoms were good (£5.50), the mint sauce, mango chutney and onion salad were standard. Very small dip portions and no lime pickle. I went for the fire ribs (£15.50) to start, and they were soooo well cooked. They literally fell off the bone when I picked them up. The sauce though was almost sickly sweet and only mildly spicy, although very tangy. I couldn't finish them, they were too much. I asked for the waiters recommendation on the main, along with pilau rice (£6.50!) and naan bread (£5). He asked my how I liked my curry and I said thick, spicy and full of flavour. He asked if I liked it sweet and I said no. He suggested the Maharaja Maachli Masala at £20.50. On the menu it was described as "Crispy cod dipped in a spiced tempura batter, bathed in a rich, thick gravy infused with black pepper, coriander and mustard seeds. A delightful fusion of flavours in every bite." Now I expected a whole fillet, but what arrived were 6 goujons in a bowl. The waiter then poured a load of sauce on them and abruptly left the table. I wish they had been left without the sauce on and the sauce had been served on the side, because any crunch from the tempura batter was completely lost. The bits that I managed to rescue were not very crunchy. The fish was cooked perfectly, almost to the point of being underdone, but I like my fish that way. The sauce was very heavy in mustard seed, but it wasn't thick and it was also very salty and sweet. There was no heat to it. It was very one dimensional. The rice was rice, well cooked and not in the slightest bit oily. The naan was thin and crispy, not thick and fluffy as I like it. So I had 2 beers (£19), popadoms, a starter, main, rice and naan bread and it came to £72!!! The high price comes with high expectations. I don't feel it represented value for money and I've had much better at less than half the price.

Went for an early dinner on a Friday night. The place has a really traditional feel to it, a nice change from a lot of modern, glossy, neon lit restaurants. The dining area is comfortable with a mix of cosy booths and bigger tables the subtle lighting adds to the traditional atmosphere. The Service was faultless and although it was busy, we were never rushed, the staff were friendly and engaging but not intrusive. The food was second to none, we shared the 'Garden Platter' vegetarian starters, the menu suggests 2 to 3 people to share, and I'd agree. Everything on the platter delighted, from the samosa to the mushrooms many different flavours that compliment each other perfectly. I'd highly recommend this platter. We decided to share a main (methi murgh) , rice and naan (the platter was huge) again the food was faultless. I would highly recommended Itihaas to anyone who enjoys real indian food in traditional (beautiful) surroundings, we'll worth checking out! Had another meal here Jan 2025, once again superb, my colleague suggested it may have been the best indian meal he had ever had, and I'd be inclined to agree, the Safari Platter, Lamb Rogan, Rice and Naan were all amazing!! Highly recommended

Visited 04/12/24. The food was impressive and surprisingly above my expectations. This was recommended to me from Anita from Gucci in Selfridges. I wasn't expecting it to be any good given the names of the food on the menu & the price tag but it was impressive and I would go again. The only thing to watch for is it has double the price tag of food you could get elsewhere, the curry's are £20-25 and the biryani was £27. The rice was a large portion but the curry was standard. I definitely recommend it if you are able to afford this, as I found it delicious. Service - was good, room for improvement here. But no issues. Toilets - Smelt a little. Food - Exceptional taste. Price - Overley expensive. But worth it if you need a taste bud tingle. Deco - some good things to take pics off, place had a more darkened presentation. We came in from the rain and the floor was slightly slippy, so be careful! Get the mixed basket of breads, it will be cheaper.

We had high hopes for this place. It looks lovely, but it is let down by it's staff. When we arrived, we were led to a seating area, where we waited 10 minutes. No one offered us a drink, & we weren't given the menu to look at. (It wasn't busy, & there were plenty of staff around. ) When we were shown to our seats, no one took our coats, & it took a while to be served. We asked for a jug of tap water. This arrived with 2 wine glasses. When we asked a waitress for 2 tumblers, she didn't seem to understand what we meant (we don't have thick accents) & brought us 2 more wine glasses! We ordered a chicken biryani. When it arrived, there was very little chicken & the sauce was too hot. (Hotter than a biryani should be). We mentioned this to the waiter, who seemed surprised, but didn't offer us a free drink or dessert. We then tried to order some kulfi from the same waitress who bought us the wine glasses. She asked if we wanted coffee, or cold fish! We showed her where it was written on the menu, & she said "Oh, kulfi"! By that time, we felt like we were in a performance of a farce...& wished we gone to "Ashers" instead. So all in all a disappointing experience for our first visit. We won't be returning.

I wish to caution somebody willing to book in an event with Itihaas, Birmingham. I had a terrible experience in trying to recover a deposit refund during COVID and eventually ended in losing £ 3,000 in the process. I had booked a Wedding Event for 300 guests to be held in August 2020. We paid £6000 as a deposit for the catering and venue. It was paid by 2 credit cards @3000 each by me and the bride's mother. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled with mutual consent due to COVID regulations. As per the prevailing government regulations we were entitled to a full refund barring some expenses incurred by the merchant in the process. We were given a list of expenses incurred amounting to £1494 which were highly manipulated and unreal. We were charged £ 200 for a food tasting event which never happened and charged for the time spend in e-mails, telephone conversation and venue viewing. These, we believed were a part of overhead expenses and were not permissible as expenses incurred by the merchant. We did not receive any services and were entitled to full refund. We still offered a liberal £ 500 to close the dispute but was declined . We were offered a truncated refund of £ 4506 out of £ 6000 as an unconditional offer in April 2020. We had no other option to seek justice and to apply for a charge back from our credit card providers. The process of chargeback was prolonged due to COVID shutdown, and we eventually recovered £ 3000 from one of the credit card providers. Unfortunately, the other credit card providers could not recover our deposit due to delayed and poor representation. We were already frustrated by the ongoing saga and eventually asked Itihaas to honour the initial unconditional offer and pay us the balance of £ 1506 . To our surprise the management refused to pay the balance on the grounds that we used a charge back to seek justice and recover our dues. The management decided to pocket a sum of £ 1506 which was initially offered in the conflict unconditionally. This was extremely apalling, and we felt cheated by the Itihaas management. I will strongly recommend anybody willing to book an event to think twice. You are in for an ordeal and could end up in losing a lot of money.

Couldn’t be bothered to serve us. 9pm booking and still waiting for starters at 22:12. Recommend you go elsewhere.

This place i would highly recommend anyone looking for halal food, food quality is always high the service is excellent and it’s a family friendly place easily accessible and there is street parking and multi-storey parking short walk away.

Came here for a special occasion with family and was very impressed. Parking- there is on-street parking on the road, as well as a car park very near. Was welcomed in and shown to our table downstairs, there was a lift for those who struggle with stairs too. We chose our drinks which included a delicious mango lassi, strawberry daquiri and some soft drinks. We chose four different thalis to get a range of foods, one veg, one street food and two meat/fish ones. My personal favourite was the goan fish and railway lamb, just sublime! For four people, including drinks the price was reasonable. It’s the not cheapest but I felt it was worth the money. Will defintely be coming back!

Fantastic thali brunch today - highly recommend - the flavours were beautiful and authentic. I ordered the executive meat thali and the goan fish curry was phenomenal! The lamb curry too. Very delicious food. Pretty and dark interiors. Only negative would be how slow the waiters were to top up the thali as it’s bottomless and if you’re giving customers 1.5hrs to eat, you should top up quicker. But i will assume this was slow due to food being cooked fresh there and then! The staff also handed my friend the wrong meal but they apologised for the error afterwards and let us keep it. All in all - great food and atmosphere! Brilliant cocktails too!

Itihaas Restaurant is a gem. I came to experience their non - veg thali along with my friend and it was a memorable dining experience. The non-veg thali offers a delightful assortment of flavors and textures. Each dish is crafted to perfection, presenting a harmonious blend of spices and ingredients that leave a lasting impression. I loved the Goan fish curry. The service at Itihaas is top-notch. The staff are very friendly, welcoming, and professional, ensuring that every guest feels comfortable and well-attended. From the moment we walked-in, we were greeted with warm smiles and courteous gestures. The decor at Itihaas is stunning, with a pretty and attractive setup that creates a serene and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is meticulously clean and tidy, adding to the overall pleasant dining environment. The calm and relaxed ambience makes it a perfect spot for both casual meals and special occasions. With its superb food, excellent service, and beautiful ambience I would definitely want to revisit the restaurant when in Birmingham.

It had been long since we had Indian food. Everything was really good really loved the Nairobi samosas. And Biryani was also good. Not a fan of the dhaniya tahree curry. Cheese coriander naans were so soft and yummy.

WOW, what a find! My husband and I love Indian food, I have traveled to several areas of India and enjoyed the fresh spices, this is by far the best Indian restaurant we have eaten in the UK. We were there for the NEC for 3 nights and we ate hear on 2 of them and ordered food to bring home. Highly recommend this if you enjoy Indian food.

Horrible experience on a Saturday night. Priority was takeaway orders and we waited 40 minutes for our food after our drinks and starters. Staff was inattentive for whole time and casually mentioned sorry for delay so that we don't leave. We were with children and I will say don't bother to book for fine dining as food is average and nothing memorable about the ambience.

Had a delicious take away Biryani from Itihaas while visiting Birmingham (delivered via Uber eats). Fresh flavours, quality ingredients and a really decent portion, plus free poppadoms. Think it will feed me for at least a couple of meals. A bit more expensive, but a definite step up on your average takeaway and worth every penny.

The selection of dishes is reasonable, not too many and all the ones we tried were of good quality. The drinks arrived promptly, the mango lassi was ok but the stars were the virgin mocktails, which they were able to do without the syrup for me. The starters were generally ok, we had the sharing platter of which the cod was particularly good. The paneer was also well made, not a hint of rubberiness which you often find in other places. Mains were also good, well spiced but not overbearing, fresh garlic and ginger too. We tried a variety of naans, but the garlic was my favourite. The mature cheese and coriander was ok, better than many places but not fantastic (I'm definitely more picky with my cheese as I get older). Desserts were ok, nothing special apart from the gulab jaamun, which were nice and tender rather than the hard rubbery balls you often get in some restaurants. There was a nice celebratory cheesecake compliments of the house which was a nice touch. The service was excellent with some good recommendations from the staff and the atmosphere is cosy with lots of memorabilia from the days of the Raj. While it is a little on the expensive side I think it's a nice treat for a special occasion.

My father Neil and I came across Itihaas about 8 years ago on a business trip to Birmingham. The experience has absolutely ruined curries for us... why? Because the food at the Itihaas is SO good that any curry anywhere else in the UK now disappoints us by comparison. We now actively look for excuses to go to Birmingham, just to enjoy a meal there (we live in the England/Scotland borders, so it's some journey). What's so good about the Itihaas? Well the restaraunt is stunning, the welcome is always friendly and genuine... but the food is just exceptional. There are some meals on the menu that are recognisable, but a significant portion of the menu is very special and authenthic to Northern India, created by award winning chefs. It's amazing. I am a vegetarian and there's good choice and exceptional quality food for me... my Father is very much NOT a veggie and he is as passionate about the Itihaas as I am. On this occassion we had work in Birmingham but it sadly didn't fall well with times the restaraunt were open. I emailed to inquire if it would be possible to order a chilled or frozen meal that we could take away with us. The manager very kindly arranged this for us and it meant that we were able to enjoy the Itihaas food back at home. I honestly couldn't recommend the Itihaas enough, but be aware, curries elsewhere will seem less impressive after you've sampled this.

Fine dining indian restaurant. Famous for its lunchtime thaali. Though I visited at dinner time. Welcoming staff and great service. Their menu is interesting and worth a read. The restaurant 'itihaas' literally translates to ' History'. They have indian history mentioned at the end of menu. Food - We ordered Goan prawn curry, Methi chicken, Jeera rice, Paneer butter (Makhani). They have good selection of drinks and soft drinks. Must try sea food and lamb dishes.

Itihaas offers a diverse array of options, from its tantalizing platters to its refreshing non-alcoholic beverages. Unlimited servings cater to hearty appetites, ensuring no guest leaves unsatisfied. However, despite the tempting spread, service falls short, with extended wait times for additional servings even during quieter periods. The quality of chai disappoints, lacking the richness expected. Additionally, the inconvenience of restroom facilities being situated on the ground floor detracts from the overall dining experience.

I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for numerous years, savoring its culinary dishes with each visit. From the moment I step through the doors, I'm greeted by the enticing aromas and warm ambiance that define Itihaas. The food, cooked to perfection, never fails to impress, tantalizing taste buds with every bite. The attentive service adds to the overall experience, ensuring that every visit is nothing short of exceptional. Though parking may sometimes pose a challenge, it's a small inconvenience in comparison to the culinary delights that await within. Allow me to recommend the SOY Shashlik Tikka or the tantalizing Tandoori Paneer for starters, followed by the flavorful Punjabi Kadhi or the bespoke Palak Paneer, specially crafted to my preference. With each dish meticulously prepared and served with care, dining here is not just a meal it's a culinary journey worth savoring, making every penny spent truly worthwhile. Rarely do I give five stars, but this establishment exceeds expectations time and time again. First Class

The service here is lovely - very welcoming. I had the chicken tikka pathia, which was decent, rather than great. I had a side of aloo gobi, which was very morish ! My vegetable pilau rice was disappointing as the veg was rather sparse. We have eaten in lots of Indian restaurants and, given Birmingham’s reputation as the place to go for Baltis and curries, we were a little underwhelmed. It was all rather run of the mill. However I cannot fault the service.
