This place is an absolute delight, the food was incredibly delicious, we're not vegan or vegetarian so we weren't sure what to expect but it was incredibly delicious and very filling, the atmosphere was romantic and perfect and the staff lovely, highly recommended. 10 out of 10

Visited as a walk-in, I'm not vegan and didn't realise until I sat down that it was a vegan restaurant. However, I am glad to have visited. The food was very nice, service was excellent, and it's a very characterful and intimate setting. There aren't many tables so best to book ahead if you're planning on visiting at peak time. Definitely somewhere quirky!

Highly recommend Itadakizen. From start to finish the whole time the lady looked after us, and we were lucky to have most of the restaurant to ourselves at lunch. The food was delicious and felt incredibly authentic with the restaurant setting, and of course all vegan. The lady knew it was my birthday and put a little candle on my dessert, it was such a small gesture but so lovely of her to do so, I still talk to others on well accommodated you're made to feel. I absolutely loved visiting and can't wait to go back again.

My fault to begin with, didn't notice it was a vegan restaurant. Atmosphere was just off the charts, loved the authentic japanese vibe matched with the old english building and interior, cozy place to dine in. The server was very friendly and accommodating, we brought a pizza for my daughter who wouldn't eat anything else and though it was not allowed, they accommodated us for that. Not crowded and it was an intimate feel inside. Food was really good considering it was vegan, though the ramen was just not the same as the usual since it was vegan. Everything else was reallty good. Prices are okay. Had the bento, the tempura was really crunchy and tasty. Gyoza was amazing.

Best vegan ramen I’ve had, the shoyu better than the tonkotsu which was slightly sweet (with oats?). Tempura mushrooms were very good. My meat-loving, chopstick-aversive dad loved it. Atmosphere was instantly calming, (Debussy?) had to re-acclimatise to the outside world by the time we’d finished eating. I bought some beautiful ceramics too. Would visit again! They didn’t mind my mum bringing her dog too, and our baby was with us in his pram no problem..

Our visit to Itadakizen was for a family birthday, and we couldn't have wished for a better place. The restaurant is an eclectic mix of old English and Japanese architecture, and the staff were ultra polite and very courteous. As for the food, it was packed full of flavour with different textures and just the right amount of chilli heat. I would highly recommend the gyoza and ramen. The bowls are huge and you won't leave feeling hungry. We were not disappointed with the fantastic vegan fayre and I would highly recommend this great little restaurant.

Visited shortly after returning from Japan because I missed the food. Despite being non-vegan myself, the quality of food is so good that you forget the absence of meat and just appreciate the flavours. The small selection of alcohol on sale was an added bonus as I started to miss umeshu as well, and being able to pick up a bottle was great.

A gem of a Japanese restaurant. All vegan food, although they don't trumpet it, exquisitely presented and delicious. The chefs and serving staff are all Japanese, so I assume the experience is very authentic. Nice peaceful atmosphere, friendly polite staff. "Paris, London, Tokyo, Shrewsbury" isn't a tag line you see very often!

Had a lovely night with my partner here. Loved the atmosphere, felt very romantic. We had a miso soup each to start which was served in such a pretty bowl. We had the bento box to share and a side of mapo tofu and the food was delicious. We also had desserts (dango and banana bread) which were so beautiful on the plate and plesent to eat. We also had the bamboo tea to share with our desserts and we were enjoying ourselves so much we stayed a bit longer with a tea refill. The lady who waited on us was lovely and so gentle when bringing the food to the table you can tell she genuinely cares for the restaurant. Excited to try a ramen and some more sides next time we go.

Wonderful lunch in beautiful surroundings. The lovely old medieval building complementing the delicious Japanese food. Service was impeccable and the prices for a lunch bowl, very reasonable. A fabulous place to get away from the crowds and have a peaceful lunch.

The venue has a calming atmosphere and the staff were friendly… However sometimes were unable to understand what I was saying. The food was homemade however due to my personal tastes I wasn’t quite sure. Still very good quality and clearly authentic so would definitely recommend!!

My vegetarian wife was very relaxed at this vegan Japanese restaurant. She could eat anything on the menu. Not so in most places. Japanese lady running it was very warm and welcoming. We had the lunchtime specials. Tempura mushrooms with seaweed was great. It was very affordable. Cannot wait to go back and try the other dishes.

We were looking for somewhere to eat late-ish on Saturday night found this place. Absolutely lovely food with the bonus of being Vegan. Quiet, polite and friendly staff. I had the Miso Ramen and it was delicious.

Wonderful Japanese food, the most authentic Japanese flavours I've had in the UK. A very good place to take anyone who would like to try Japanese food but is put off by raw fish. The staff were so lovely and the food was delicious.

Fabulous fresh food with great balance of flavours and textures, nutritious but enjoyable to eat. Lots of taste without being overly strongly flavoured. I had the bento box which was very good value, as did my wife, while my brother in law had the ramen soup, which was also substantial and full of flavour. Much of the food was new to me. The desserts were also full of flavour and texture without being overly sweet. My wife travelled in Japan last year and she thought that the food was authentic. Pleasant staff including the waitress and the lovely cheerful Japanese lady.

Whole family loves this place and all keep saying they can’t wait to go again. Food is amazing and such a cool location, a real hidden gem tucked away on the side streets of Shrewsbury

First experience of Japanese food. Having food allergies (shellfish) it was such a relief to know that there were no hidden risks. The host/chef was great in her explanation to a newbie. We had the bento box and miso soup. Very tasty and highly recommend. I’m a wheelchair user, there is one step into the restaurant and all on one level. Free blue badge parking outside.

Really enjoyed it, had the vegetarian bento box just awesome. Staff are super too. The restaurant itself, plenty of character. If you are not vegetarian and find umai nearby is fully reserved, this is definitely worth a try if you still want Japanese food.

Everything in this cosy and charming restaurant is so thoughtfully done: the delicious and beautiful dishes, the music, the decor, the kindness of the staff…I left the restaurant feeling so good and grateful, I’ll sleep with a big smile tonight. Favourite dishes were roasted miso aubergine, kitsune udon, dango and yuzu mochi. It’s a cosy and incredibly charming Japanese restaurant.

Popped in for lunch and had the creamy spicy ramen. It was like love in a bowl; a perfect balance of flavours, warming soul food for this cold weather. They also sell ramen paste and a selection of other items, if you're looking for a gift for other foodies.

We sat down, ignorant to the fact that the menu was vegetarian… and I can happily say it was the best veggie dish I’ve had all year! The spicy ramen and Tonkotsu ramen were delicious. Service from the young waitress was excellent and it was lovely speaking to the chef/owner. We will be back!

A beautiful spot with just fantastic service - but most obviously the food was absolutely top tier. I'm a right snob, and this really really hit the mark. Excellently executed dishes that were balanced, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The mochi yuzu mochi special they had on was absolutely top quality. The plating and display really didn't let them down either. Honestly, top top quality experience, especially for the not extortionate prices. Loved the evening, thank you all!!!!

I would give 10 stars if I could! I have tasted a lot of food around the world and had my fair share of Japanese restaurants. These were both in Japan and in the rest of the world and this one is in the top. The food is all Vegan (didn't realize that up front) and the taste is amazing :) You can feel the soul of the food, you can taste the love and dedication it is made in! The Tempura mushroom is very nice dark and crispy on the outside but moist and fresh on the Inside. The ramen (tonkatsu) has a beautiful well balanced taste of flavors and the noodle are cooked perfectly. The mochi desert was perfect cold temperature as when you bit in there you didn't feel any like frozen parts. The texture of the mochi was like I expect from mochi and the passion flavor was strong but not too strong to over power the rest. The staff is amazing, the stories they shared just confirm my feelings about the food. They are passionate deticated and put a lot of love in the food. If I ever have the chance to be in the neighborhood again this will my go to spot! For all the meat lovers I am also one but it was refreshing to eat a non meat menu! Dare you to try it out!

A very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Both my husband and I had the Bento boxes, and the desserts! The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was very chilled and relaxing. A return visit is a certainty!

The food was unbelievable, I’ve never had so many flavours on one plate. The restaurant is so peaceful and relaxing, I could have stayed there all night.

This was one of the best restaurants we have ever been to! The ambience was great but still relaxed in a beautiful old building. The staff were extremely friendly and all of the food was delicious. We had the bento box and the ramen noodles and both were excellent. We also loved the plum wine and lychee sake, as well as the desserts. Couldn’t recommend this more highly!

I stopped in Shrewsbury on Saturday 3rd with my partner at around 2pm, on our way to Llangollen, and we decided to grab lunch here. I am a chef, I have ran two restaurants (one also fully vegan), and this was my favourite dining experience I have ever had. The seating had options, and we elected for the intimate corner booth since she struggles with open spaces. The server was extremely friendly and helpful in recommending options in a way that did not make my partner feel silly, even though by our own admission it was probably silly questions. The food came out slightly staggered, but we were sharing. I appreciated this, as it gave us time to appreciate the individual items and made me feel like the chef knew what they were doing. The calamari came with a (miso?) sauce, and was nicely battered. My partner HATES mushrooms, but enjoyed this dish, as well as the seaweed salad, which was a thoughtful accompaniment given the ocean themes. Everything in the bento felt freshly made and deliberately chosen. The mushrooms, again, she didn't mind which I was really surprised by (in a good way). My ramen was great - the flavourful oil on the top was nicely dispersed, and the noodles tasted handmade with an incredible chew that I can only liken to spaghetti crossed with gnocchi. Service was excellent throughout and it was nice to converse with the staff about the food and veganism.

Such a fantastic little restaurant. Definitely one of the better places Shrewsbury has to offer. I've no dietary requirements and thought the food was fantastic. Don't let the fact that it's vegan put you off, I'm not even vegetarian and loved all of it! We were served by Thomas who was very attentive, a credit to the business!

Absolutely lovely food, and so nice to have choices as a vegan. Also was nice to have something a little bit different. But the restaurant was so cold! It ruined the atmosphere and I wanted to eat up and get gone.

Food arrived over an hour late, I tried contacting them to tell them the driver has been driving in the exact opposite direction for 20 minutes now but they said there's nothing they can do and the food arrived stone cold and they're no longer answering the phone.

Amazing food, great options on the menu and great that everything on the menu was vegan so had plenty of choice, which was refreshing. The interior decor is amazing, it’s like something out of Harry Potter and the staff were lovely. Would highly recommend. Some of our family went after we recommended it (who aren’t vegan) to try it and they enjoyed it a lot too. We had roasted aubergines (surprisingly was one of my favourites), homemade kimchi (so much better than supermarket kimchi!), battered vegan tofu shrimps, ramen (noodle soup), and katsu like curry. Miso soup was really good. Otherwise everything else was really small portions and quite tasteless. Was quite disappointed as I went to the restaurant a year ago and the food was delicious back then.

Enchanted place with lovely staff and excellent quality food. I’m not vegetarian, but plenty on the menu to satisfy and my partner is and said it’s one of the best meals she’s ever had. And the G&T with Japanese citrus was divine!

Had a delicious lunch: miso soup, sweet potato starch noodles with veg, and home-made kimchi. The shandy was delicious, tasted as if it was made with home-made lemonade. Lovely products and artefacts for sale here too. Terrific service. Would highly recommend.

Gorgeous venue, lovely friendly staff, great presentation, food was tasty. It would be brilliant if it was possible to buy the tofu nuggets as a side on their own, or as an extra to the ramen, those are the only things I can think of to improve, apart from that it was perfect. Prices reasonable too. Definitely reccomend!

Relaxed atmosphere, great friendly service and wonderful food - can’t recommend enough. The ramen was stunning.

My vegan friend and I visited for a mid-week catch-up dinner and were very pleased with our restaurant choice. I'm lactose intolerant so going somewhere totally vegan is lovely for me (and indeed my friend of course!) as neither of us then have to worry about what we order. I really liked that the menus were on QR codes so that there was no risk of dirty menus like I've experienced recently in other establishments. The selection of food and drinks was great and very reasonably priced, it was very clear and easy to make a decision. We ordered 7 of the smaller 'tapas' plates between us and had a desert each after and left full satisfied being over full. The restaurant was running a cicchetteria style where each dish came out when it was ready. I know that's not to everyone's taste but, for me, it ensures I eat more slowly and the food isn't cold by the time I got to it. I really enjoyed getting to experience each dish rather than entering glutton mode with seven in front of me at once! The people who served us were both really friendly, helpful and attentive and I would happily visit here again. The restaurant also had a lovely layout, a wonderful smell (this is important!), the toilets were very clean and the music played was just right for the settings and not too loud. Sorry to borrow a quote here, but…TAKE ME ON A TRIP TO FLAVOUR TOWN! That was my first Bento Box and it was utterly amazing! How can vegetables be put together to taste so amazing and meaty?! I’ll be ordering again!!

I popped in with my boyfriend without a reservation and we were seated immediately, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the restaurant itself, whilst small has a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere. We actually didn't realise the food was entirely vegan but that didn't deter us at all. I don't like tofu but I highly recommend their mushroom and tofu croquettes! The miso ramen too. We'll definitely come again x

Being a lifelong omnivore I was sceptical about the vegan nature of this restaurant. However, if there is a style of cuisine that suits being vegan it is Japanese. Packed full of flavour and plenty of variety. Fresh and perfectly cooked. Very friendly service and beautiful surroundings. A little pricey but worth it for a treat!
