This place had character about it. Not plush or fancy and a little cramped in the main dining area but the lovely view out of the window watching the steam train, the lovely food and relaxed atmosphere made it a pleasant experience. We had a mix of food between us. Pasta dishes, sloppy joe wrap and a sandwich. Added bonus was that the eatery is dog friendly. Our dog was welcomed in without problems.

We stopped here for a coffee whilst waiting for a steam train as it is very close, over the footbridge, from the station. It was very pleasant, ideally situated with views down to the station. There is a wealth of informatory leaflets for attractions in the area. The prices are reasonable and even more so if having bought a ticket on the Ffestiniog railway and obtained the discount voucher. We called in again later on our return for tea and cakes but it was closed.

Only found this thanks to being handed a leaflet as we left the station with our dogs and were told it was pet friendly. Friendly, prompt service of hot soup and chunky bread just right for our wet day. Would have been nice to sit on the terrace and enjoy the view had the weather been better. Good value and nice choice of food. Ideal stop from our train trip

We stopped here for some lunch before going back to Porthmadog, what a find! Absolutely beautiful place, friendly staff, reasonably priced and extremely tasty. I had the soup which came with some lovely thick bread, my husband had a sandwich again on lovely soft thick bread and our daughter had a chicken pasta dish which she thoroughly enjoyed. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate the number of customers, moving tables and chairs so that families could sit together and always with a smile and “no problem “ . Well worth a visit.

I got off the train and a man handed me a menu and a voucher for 10% off the menu at Isallt coffee house. After a walk around town I decided to visit for some lunch.Home made soups were on offer, chicken and sweet corn or tomato and basil, or pasta dishes, salads, sandwiches and baps. They also had a substantial selection of yummy homemade cakes. I went with a bacon bap which was 2 thick slices of back bacon on a bap roll, brown sauce which came in its own little glass Kilner jar, and a chocolate brownie which was a large slice not a little square. Service was quick, friendly and professional. I sat outside on the terrace on this beautiful warm day and really enjoyed my meal.

Visited here for lunch when enjoying a day out on the local railway. The café has a relatively small but adequate menu and the food was very good. It is not the biggest venue with two smallish rooms inside and an external seating area. The only downside we found was that they appear to allow dogs inside the café which is not great from a hair shedding point of view but also in a small rooms such as these there is not a lot of room to put a large dog. Whilst we were there a group came in with a larger than average lab that liked to go up to and greet people passing by its table which unfortunately had to be passed to get to the toilet. I don't have a problem with dogs but know plenty of people that do who would have been very uncomfortable having to approach this large over friendly dog whose owners were too busy controlling their children to be proactive in dealing with there dog. Where an external eating area is available I would prefer it if cafes restricted dog access to outside, this was certainly the case at Harlech Castle where we lunched earlier in the week. The dog policy was not appreciated by all though as we overheard two sets of dog owners enquiring about access one of which was fine about it and popped their two collies in the car whilst they ate lunch whilst the other group of four stormed off with their three spaniels to take their business elsewhere!

Like other reviewers we visited the Isallt after receiving the 10% discount voucher when we left the station. The hot lunches and homemade cakes were excellent but we asked for a pot of tea for two and were disconcerted to receive a large teapot of hot water instead of tea. We left the pot to 'brew' for a while before realising that the teabags had been placed in our cups. Unsurprisingly when we put the two together the resultant drink was lukewarm and tasteless.Very disappointing when the food was so good.

I went to pay at the till and there was confusion, they told me my bill was £7.60 which I told them it was incorrect and asked if they had included the chicken salad. My partner and I had some time, she ordered a chicken skewer salad and I had the chicken and bacon linguini. because of the low price we were concerned that these could be small portions but not so - 2 ample bowls arrived. The quality was really excellent and I envied my partners salad which I tasted - I had not ordered it as they can be so variable. The linguini was also good and we enjoyed a home made glass of lemonade and ginger beer to wash it down, finishing off with a really tasty warmed chocolate brownie andf cream. As promised the coffee was excellent with no hint of bitterness. How refreshing that there are no chips on the menu. Those that complain about it are clearly in the wrong establishment and perhaps should try McDonalds. The local ingredients and home made nature of everything was very much appreciated. Hubby and I had an early lunch here on Tuesday. We would have preferred to have eaten on the rear terrace but it was drizzling with rain. We were greeted by friendly staff. We picked a table by the window so that we had a view of the misty mountains. The wooden table surface felt a bit sticky but it looked clean enough. There were a few breadcrumbs on the floor presumably left over from breakfast time. The waitress gave us a menu and explained about the home-made soups of the day (2 on offer). Hubby was a bit disappointed that there were no chips or wedges available as an extra side order. Decisions made, I went to the counter to place our order and was given a numbered ticket. Hubby chose a bacon & cheese bap and I opted for a Sloppy Joe (a tortilla wrap filled with hot mincebeef and veg). We both had a large mug of tea each. The meals were served quickly as we were the 1st customers in. Hubby enjoyed his bap but he said he could have eaten 2 (as he was still hungry). I enjoyed my Sloppy Joe but there were far too many salad leaves on the side covered in a tomato-type mayonnaise. I was hungry for a sweet treat so I devoured a piece of home-made Bakewell cake (warmed). The bill came to £13.40 which I was able to pay by contactless card. The Head Chef was very pleasant. The ground floor toilet could do with a bit of an update e.g. an electric hand dryer instead of a paper towel dispenser and an unsightly open bin...and finally, us ladies would appreciate a mirror on the wall.

Had lunch in this restaurant after being offered 10% off when we got off the train at the station. Partner ordered the feta salad which he enjoyed. I ordered the Chicken skewers and salad, food very good but I thought that there could have been more chicken for the price, only 4 small pieces and a lot of leaves, with a small amount of tomato, some cucumber and a little grated carrot, and a few sun dried tomato pieces. Coffee not bad but disappointing after the advert for slow brewed coffee, it was actually very average. Choice of menu also quite limited, with not much choice of sandwiches or pasta dishes. staff very pleasant and helpful.

Passing on motorcycle noting how few cafe/coffee shops here. Saw sign ISAALT with parking. Great flat car park 4 bikes. Terrace overlooking bike so left stuff on. Coffee brewed over 24 hours so no bitterness. Chicken salad perfect and I don't even like salad! Chef in whites uniform v attentive. Will come back to use as Guest House.

The town isn't so pretty and the houses next door to the cafe are pretty grim but the cafe is lovely. The coffee was good and the view from the patio is nice over the mountains. The best thing was the rose lemonade which we bought in a glass bottle and could get refilled for a reduced price. Lovely! Nice staff too.

Nice little cafe, My only comment is that there should be more choices of sandwiches. Soup of the day was very nice. Nice view over the Ffestiniog railway

We stopped here for lunch, drawn in by the sign outside. The man who appears to run the place was very friendly and welcoming, the young girls serving needed to be a bit more like him. The fresh soup was delicious (tomato and roasted pepper) and the bacon and egg bap was fine. The selection of sandwiches was very limited - according to the girl serving, they only do cheese. The cakes looked nice but we didn't have time to indulge. It was okay for a quick lunch and was quite busy. There's also a nuce terrace for when the weather is good.

The cafe was lovely and seemed very popular but never felt too busy. They serve several home-made drink options (ginger beer, pink lemonade and a special cold brew coffee), the first two are delicious and worth trying. They offer a few cake options, I tried their lemon cake and the carrot cake. Both were well made but with no icing, which I would have preferred.

We had lunch here before returning to Portmadog on the steam train. What a little gem. We sampled the homemade soup and delicious cakes. Would highly recommend.

We stopped here for breakfast twice, having been disappointed by the service at another establishment. The breakfast rolls are tasty, especially the sausages, and both the tea and coffee were good. Fair prices and very friendly service. Outdoor seating where you can eat your food whilst enjoying the beautiful views of Llanberis and its surroundings. Also does delicious cakes, milkshakes and hot chocolate. Highly recommended.

I'm actually gutted to be writing this review as we thought we had found a good haunt when we first tried last week. 2 adults & 2 children all had a lovely lunch time meal the previous week so we rebooked for the 2 adults for an evening meal the following weekend. The starter was lovely for both of us but we both ordered fillet steak for our main and I don't know what meat it was but it certainly wasn't a beef steak. It didn't look like one, taste like one or even cut like one. I was genuinely gutted as it has put me off going back again because I feel like it's just rude to expect somebody not to notice and left feeling like we've been totally ripped off. You don't order a fillet steak if you don't know exactly what to expect on your plate so the audacity to think you can pull that off is unbelievable. I can't complain about the service, both times it has been spot on, lovely women but unfortunately we won't be returning after been served that.

On a recent visit to Barmouth we found this little Gem of a place that is open on Sundays. There was a special board out side and it was the Cheese and Onion pie that drew us in . Both my husband and me had this and it came with new potatoes and salad . It was delicious and very reasonably priced . We were naughty and were too tempted by the delicious homemade sweets and puds they had to offer . I had the jam and coconut cake and my husband opted for the apple pie. They were presented lovely with fruit and a pot of cream on the side. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning next time we are in Barmouth

Lovely little dog friendly cafe in the heart of the village. Warm welcome by the host and his friendly staff. Typical Welsh weather and unfortunately the biffolding doors were closed in July however will visit again when the sun is out Diolch
