Il Palazzo in Southend-on-Sea

This restaurant only opened under this name last month and appears to have a new menu etc. It was formally called II Palazzo and from the dates of the reviews below they all refer to the "previous" restaurant. Service was Ok but instead of the large dining room shown in the photos we were all packed into tables set out in the former bar area with about two feet between tables. Food was Ok

Service and staff on the ball, attentive espically being that the restaurant was very busy.

Can't believe w ehave never been here before, great restaurant with food and service to match, will definitely go back.

I've lived down the road from here for years but yesterday was the first time I have visited. My flight to Milan from Southend Airport was cancelled so I advised Carlos the lovely waiter that I wanted to pretend I had made it to Milan. I had not been in this restaurant since I worked there 20 years ago when it was Farthings steakhouse.

The food was great, served hot and fresh. The staff couldn't do enough for you and made sure you always had what you wanted. I'm going to book this for my 60th don't hesitate go here and have a great evening.

We visited here on a Saturday night and although we hadn't booked they found us a table.From the very extensive menu we had a main and a sweet each together with drinks coffees and a nightcap the bill was only around £50 for the 2 of us. Good food well cooked and pleasantly served with a smile. If I lived in Southend, I would really be a regular here as every thing is so good.

I visited this restaurant with a friend on Friday 8th June after being unable to get a table at another nearby restaurant so therefore had not booked a table here. The staff were very friendly & seated us immediately. The menu is quite varied offering a wide range of options. The staff were very accommodating & very attentive. The food was absolutely outstanding & i was pleasantly impressed when the bill came up. I would highly recommend this restaurant

Lovely decor and an intimate setting, food was a great standard. Booked this restaurant having read TA reviews, and were not disappointed. Unassuming from the outside, this excellent Italian restaurant offers authentic cuisine and a friendly Mediterrranean welcome. We had a variety of starters and main courses, all absolutely delicious, with great flavours of Italy - tour visit was the highlight of a few days spent in the area; Attentive but not overbearing service, we felt we had a true taste of Italy and had throughly enjoyed our experience - would definitely book again if we are ever in the area.

My partner and me came here for an evening meal- not been here for a few years and think it was lovely- my partner was really really impressed and said it was the best meal he had in a long time- would particularly recommend the calzone- I would recommended the delicious risotto too! Staff were really polite and it was nice to be asked if we wanted a break between our starters and mains too as many restaurants do not ask this and it’s often very quickly out after the starters

7 of us quite oldies booked for a Saturday night get together. We all had delicious meals including starter, breads, main and pudding with wines and spirits to accompany. Staff were welcoming and attentive and there was a great atmosphere. We shall definitely be returning!

Some great Aperol spritz to start the birthday meal nice and light. As normall the service here was fantastic with a large menu that Thayer are happy to mix up for a larger group.

My boyfriend and I visited the resturant for an evening meal. Amazing service and really tasty food. The price is decent (not too expensive). I had the risotto and it was so flavoursome. Really recommend this resturant to any couples and/or families.

Recently had an evening meal here and what a delightful experience. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. All the food is cooked fresh to order and you can certainly taste that fact!! Every bite was delicious and staff so knowledgable about the meat and vegetarian dishes alike. It's not often we go for the full on three course meal but we did here and it was sure worth it. Will definitely be returning for another meal here at some point in the near future!!

reviews are all about the experience on the night! having written a good review for a local Turkish restaurant on the opening, everything was superb, however two visits later, a different chef, and all I would say is never again! and so we arrived at our local IL PALAZZO on a cold and wet night, to be given a warm greeting in a restaurant with a lovely ambience was "just the ticket". The staff were quietly efficient, our food served promptly and all was delicious, even a gluten free pasta was cooked correctly! so for us on the night we were all very pleased and would certainly go back again.

This place has the best staff in the area and always make us feel at home. Great food as always and a good size menu helps.

I wonted to try all three il palazzo restaurant after eaten at Chelmsford and westcliff palazzo , we was very excited , we absolutely loved the restaurant its true hidden gem this was sunday lunch they were very busy to , great atmosphere nicely decorated, il palazzo restaurant is certainly great addition to area. Of Course we will be back! you must tryout.

Great food, helpful friendly staff highly recommend. I have eaten here a number of times with family and friends we have never been disappointed.

Visited last night for dinner. Had olives and bruschetta to start, calzone for main and tiramisu for desert. Food was great as usual, especially the calzone - packed full of chicken and vegetables with a lovely sauce on the side. Service was great, lovely restaurant , would def recommend.

Myself and my wife had a really nice meal last night and I have to say how lovely it was. All the staff where fantastic from the moment we went through the door. Beautiful staters followed by the best stake I've ever tasted. The presentation of the food was top class. We will definitely be back as this is now my favourite restaurant.

What a lovely restaurant, the staff were very friendly and there was a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very clean. A good choice of food on the menu. Went here this evening with my sister. We had the garlic and rosemary pizza bread to share to start which was delicious and just the right size, then I had a veal escalope with veg and potatoes which was cooked to perfection and I finished every last bite!! My sister had a pasta dish which she also devoured!. I always struggle to finish my food but this was just the right amount for me and my sister. It was very reasonably priced and the service was great and we really felt a passion from the staff members for good home cooked Italian food. Will definetly be returning!

Visited Il Palazzo, Westcliff on a whim & was really impressed. Food & service was excellent. Given this we thought we'd try the Southchurch Il Palazzo. Although its the same menu everything was slightly overcooked, not enough to send back but to much not to mention here. Steak was well done not medium, veal was borderline dry & vegetables were very soft. Ambiance & decor couldn't match Westcliff restaurant either. In all, put up with the extra parking grief & go to Il Palazzo, Westcliff. It's that bit better to make it worth the hassle.

Was so so unhappy with our visit have been many many times and had great food and great times. This visit was for a friends Birthday was such a let down would never go back. I did approach someone whom I have never seen before and asked if they had changed chef to be told bluntly No. 10 People and I can honestly say not one of us had a decent meal.

Been there a few times now. Staff are very friendly, menu is good, but the specials board is worth checking out.They also have a draught lager, poretti, which is like moretti, but lighter. Again a bit different.Seating is comfortable and tables well spaced out.Always found the service very good.No complaints, highly recommended

While the food, as usual, was outstanding. From carbonara to the veal. Nobody pointed out the specials board and our drinks order was wrong (close but wrong)... despite that, a thoroughly enjoyable meal and some delicious desserts

Before I go any further....what a stunning little restaurant! Greeted by friendly and happy staff that actually have a desire to look after you (not something you find everywhere these days) The food...? Perfection! Probably the best steak I've ever eaten. That's a big statement from me as I'm a steak lover....but this place knocks spots off the local steak houses. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a one off.... so made an excuse to go back there. Well, I think I've probably been 30 times in the last year and it's just as good every time. In summary, Good Food, Great Staff, and Brilliant Value. I definitely won't be going elsewhere for an italian!

Visited this restaurant last minute and had a lovely dinner - the food was good and reasonably priced, the atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were professional and attentive.

We visited this restaurant as our last outing before we wed. This place has a wide Italian menu and special meal deals and offers. The restaurant looks small from outside but goes right back and a garden. In terms of parking I only live quite near however you have a few side streets to park. If late at night the station has free parking and only a short walk.Staff really pleasant and attentive which adds to the pleasure of dining. I would say pretty good for families as quite a few in there and the relaxed atmosphere helps with this. The Garlic bread is quite big - so definitely share. We made the mistake of one each and my partner had a pizza and ended taking it home! Food is great here and will visit again. The manager even gave as a shot of lemonceillo on way out!

Really nice resteraunt which is decorated beautifully. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food is nice too (especially the steak). All in all good value for money.

Went here for my mums birthday. Service was slow at the start but once the starts eventually arrived the service was great. Drinks and food were good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Can be a bit pricey 25-35 per head.

Reserved a table a week in advance, only to find we were seated right next to the kitchen door which wasn't a good start. Had to stop a waiter and ask for the menu after being seated for over twenty minutes and being ignored. Food order was wrong (I ordered whitebait to start and ended up with deep fried mushroom instead) but the waiter just plonked the plates down and walked off. Main course was OK but a bit bland (prawn and crab linguine) - I didn't finish it. Drinks are very overpriced (£2.40 for a can of coke?)Nobody asked if we were happy or enjoyed our meal at any time. Won't be going back.

This was the first time I have visited Il Palazzo and I can honestly say that I don't think I'll go back. Service was very, very slow and it took forever to be given a menu, even though everyone who had arrived after us had been given menus. Starters were small for the price, the main was okay, but quite bland and boring. I think the only good thing out of the night was my company. I prefer other Italians in the town. Sorry.

Unfortunately too many restaurants in Southend and the surrounding areas depend on the location and the food and service are just not good enough - this restaurant may not have the views that some others do in the area but the food was lovely and the service was extremely good. I had the fillet steak as I am dieting and asked for this to be with salad and no dressing and plan potatoes, all of which was no problem. The meal was delicious and we will definitely return.

A recent visit with the in-laws and child, was very impressed, the decor was nice and clean, staff were happy and friendly and helpful, the food was amazing, we had 5 different dishes and all seemed to be cooked fresh and tasted great, none of us were disappointed

We visited on a very busy Saturday for the first time with family and had such an enjoyable time due to the friendly, helpful staff and the ambience of the restaurant. Our food was delicous with good size portions too.

We had a lovely dinner here at Palazzo on Thursday night,the service was very nice and always with a nice smile and very polite.Food was excellent from Pizza,meat and fish.I asked if they could do for me a Veal Milanese ( which it wasn't on the menu) and they did it straight away with no trouble at all,and I really appreciate it! Good servis, very friendly. Food was nice, but there is room for improvement. The beetroot on caprino Al forno tasted like from a jar you can fined in shop. Sea bass was cooked nicely, just the skin wasn't crispy enough, especially if you are serving it skin up on the plate. And the dessert was disappointment for me. Banofee pie with over wipped cream. We will come back.

Being a cook im quite fussy but this place is one of my favourites local resturants. Been here many times the food is brilliant aways tasty with flavour and not overpriced. Dining experience also very good, staff are polite and welcoming. Would happily recommend this place any day.

Valentines dinner with my wonderful partner was very good.We have being coming here since my partner completed her radiotherapy for throat cancer. The staff have had no idea that we was lucky to find this place a short walk from our home and we sneak in early at 5 o'clock before everyone else so she was able to take her time eating. The staff never rushed us and have always being very friendly but now after two years things are good again but we will never forget what a great resturant this is. Many thanks from Ricky and Dawn now you know why she can't drink the limoncello my friends don't work to hard but keep up the good work.

Celebrated a family birthday dinner at Il Palazzo, nice decor and friendly staff. The menu is huge, so hard to choose as so much choice. I had the Tiger Prawns for starter, yummy. Monkfish for the main plus gelato for dessert. Everything was really good, all our plates were completely cleared. Booking is advisable as full up when we went.

My boyfriend and I recently relocated from Bournemouth to Essex , we were looking for a delicious Italian to replace the one we used to go to in Bournemouth , this place has it all staff are friendly and attentive , they were booked up on a Tuesday night which was fantastic to see and adds to the atmosphere , the venue is very pretty , my boyfriend had the pizza and I had rissoto , we pinched some of each other's and they were both delicious , we will 100% be going on a regular basis now, absolutely 5 star !

My wife and I have been there a few times now and even taken friends, and the good food and service has been second to none every time. Good menu with what we think is some thing for every one and good atmosphere. I don't usually review restaurants, but I do feel this one deserves praise.

What a lovey find this restaurant was! I moved to the area a few months ago and have been along Southchurch Street many times but somehow missed spotting this restaurant! Had a couple of friends over on Saturday so booked a table for 2 pm and we had a lovely unhurried time. Food was delicious, staff friendly and attentive without being over the top. Lovely ambience. We went for lunch on Sunday. Basically we all had delicious meals with generous portions. The Italian bottled beer was great and the waiters were attentive but not in your face. We can't wait to go back.

Myself and my husband and daughter visited here on Saturday 14th Jan. We had called ahead do booked. We had a great welcome and was shown to the very end in a corner which was a shame Asia wasn't very busy. My husband and daughter like looking at the open restaurant and i was stuck looking out at the garden and a horrid hot air conditioning above my head, luckily it switched off every so often.Our starters was meatballs, scallops and I had breaded mushrooms and we all enjoyed it, my mushrooms wasn't anything special though. Our mains was 2 veals and a pork and was lovely we all enjoyed what we had. The staff was very attentive throughout checking we was ok. We was very contented and couldn't manage a dessert just a coffee. The bill was £70.00.I would definitely return but not to where we sat!! We left feeling full..

Shocking is all l can say. After reading the reviews l was having high expectations, the starter of stuffed mushrooms was very dismal four little breaded mushrooms on some salad leaves. Have had better from Iceland and they were not stuffed at all. The rossini was topped with shop bought pate from Asda no less. I dared to complain to the Italian waiter and he argued with me saying he would pay for it himself to wich l said yes do. After then making me wait l had to go to the bar to pay and have yet another argument after only a few pounds off of the bill. Customer service clearly not a strong point the staff have the attitude that the guest is wrong. l have never written a bad review before but after watching a waitress stack dirty plates on the table before taking them away, a long wait for food a blue steak coming out medium which was sent back and to be told that l didn't know how l liked my steak cooked and then having an argument over my lack of knowledge (worked in catering for 20 year's what would l know) the tables near us sending back food and eating separately. We all have bad day's with chef's but it could have been dealt with a lot more professionaly. Very disappointed my first Saturday night off since October and left with a very bitter taste in my mouth. Not quite sure how they have achieved so many star's locals clearly have low expectations.

My partner and I have been to this restaurant 4 times now and we have always been made to feel welcome and we have never been disappointed with the food. The fixed price menu is excellent value with some great dishes and the service is second to none. Midweek we have never had to book in advance either. A hidden gem and highly recommended. We have also been to the Westcliff restaurant and that is great too.

We have been wanting to try Il Palazzo for a while. 6 of us went there for dinner.It was all our first time going there for food and we all really enjoyed ourselves. They had a highchair for our baby. The only thing was they had no baby changing table. - The staff was polite and sociable. - The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.- The turn around on the food was quick. - The food we all had was lovely! We will be definitely be going back.

Booked a table for 2 on New Year's Eve and what a delight. Wonderful service from all the staff, fabulous food and good prices. I had GRANCHIO AL FORNOBaked crab claws meat with onion,garlic,mustard,brandy ,cream and cheese as a starter, this was wonderful. Then we both had fillet steak and peppercorn sauce for our main dish, which for me were cooked perfectly. We will be back !!!!!!

This is a genuine and pleasant Italian restaurant. Leading up to Christmas I went there with a friend who I had not seen for a long time, and we had a great time. The service was first class, and in particular the Italian waiter who served us could not have been more attentive and helpful. The food was equally first class and everything one could ask for. And the price was perfectly reasonable. I will definitely be going back. In fact, this is the only Italian restaurant I will be going to for the foreseeable future.

We popped in here for a late Saturday lunch in December. The service was prompt, efficient but not "in your face". The children's menu was perfect for our 5 year old - her spaghetti bolognaise was not really any different in size to my adult pasta dish, but included a drink and ice cream for less than the adult price. My husband chose from the lunchtime menu, I chose from the main menu, all were accommodated. Food was amazing, lucky to have this restaurant nearby

We visit here often and are never disappointed. A warm welcome, attentive service and the most delicious food. Our children are annoyed that on this occasion, we visited without them, yet the staff asked after our children and extended family. This place is in walking distance from our home and we just love it!

Great garlic bread with cheese to start with a couple of stakes one in cheese and one with brandy and peppercorns that looked amazing with the garnish that was with them.The best staff we have ever found in any resturant.

We had an 18th Family Birthday part this weekend for 18 people. They asked for pre-order if possible which we tried to get, but not everybody did this so I was expecting the worst with having to try and get 18 meals all at the same time and hot and correct. Well, I was so impressed. The staff were fantastic, they couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely delicious, everything was served together, or at least within a minute, everything was correct, nothing was sent back, the food was high quality and everyone had an amazing evening, and to top that, it was affordable. We had 3 separate bills for our familes and they coped with that with ease and there were no mistakes on the bills. All the things you think could go wrong with big party was taken in their stride and it was just perfect. All in all this was an amazing evening, great ambience and a perfect place for a party, I'll definately be going back for an evening out with my partner. Thank you to you all for making our night special.

We have eaten here several times and the welcome, service and food has always been good. The set menu is excellent value but the full menu is also good with a board of specials also available. This restaurant is recommended for lunch or dinner.

Excellent service. The staff were pleasant, efficient and very helpful. Their timing between courses was just right. Bright, clean and good décor.For starters I had the goats cheese and beetroot sounds a bit odd but was seriously good. The lasagne and the chicken that my hubby had were both appetising and well presented. Monday to Thursday they do a two course meal for under a tenner, excellent value.I would highly recommend and will certainly be back.

Me and significant other went on a Thursday night to try their special offer two course set menu (Sunday to Thursday) at the Southchurch Road branch where it is only £9.99.The selection of starters and mains was great - something for almost everyone; except no mains for vegetarians although I suspect they might do a swap from the main menu.The restaurant décor was nice and there was a good atmosphere as it was well supported for a Thursday evening in late October, plus there was a 21st birthday party which added to the atmosphere.One minor criticism - we thought the music a little too loud but as no one else seemed disturbed by it we did not say anything. Normally that might have spoilt my meal but everything else was so good I let it pass.There is an a la carte menu with mainly pizzas and pastas plus standard Italian type mains but I would happily return to eat off the set menu.I ticked the box that asked if this is one of the best meals you have had. Although at £9.99 it is cheap eats; value for money, food quality, presentation and service it has to be amongst the best.

I have visited both the westcliff and southchurch Il Palazzo-both are lovely but this review is based on the southchurch one. I absolutely love this restaurant- the decor and the food are lovely. Mid range prices, I have never been disappointed with the food. Saving up my pennies to visit again! Great staff too.

Whenever we go to this restaurant we are greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food is always excellent.

About 18 of us gathered for my niece's 21st and everything was exceptional. Food ranged from picky pizza (fussy niece#2) to vegan pasta, seafood linguine and some outstanding steaks. EVERY meal was quality. Service was good, sweets (if needed!) looked good. It was a delight to see a table full of smiling faces with nothing to worry about but having fun. Thanks for a great night. Booked last minute on a Saturday night, the staff were very nice, great food very tasty, nice house red. The restuarant was packed with people being turned away, loved it. We will be regulars.

This is local for us and we often pop in at short notice for a meal - usually at the weekend. We did the same this Saturday and, as usual, were not disappointed. The calves liver was delicious and my husband's fillet steak was cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly but efficient and nothing is too much trouble. There is always a nice buzz about the place and the prices are very reasonable.

Superb food and great service - this is our 6th visit and even better than the great food we have eaten here before - we took visiting family as a treat and the whole meal was very tasty fresh and hot - whitebait, beef carpaccio, veal, duck, pasta and pizza - excellent!!

Another delicious meal at Il Palazzo. This has been our regular meeting place for a girls' night out. The food is delicious, decor lovely and the staff really friendly and helpful. This restaurant is such good value for money and I would really recommend it.

I visited Il Palazzo for the first time last Friday evening for an early dinner with two others.We were not disappointed and choose from the varied 2 Course Menu for £10. Yes really on a Friday night too! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the portion sizes. The food was freshly cooked and piping hot. Having only spent £10 we decided to treat ourselves to dessert, which again was delicious.The restaurant was quickly filling up and was in full swing when we departed at 9pm. Well done Il Palazzo.

We're a bit spoilt for choice here in the Southend area when it comes to Italian restaurants as for the most part they are of a high quality. I think it is pretty safe to say though that this has to be one of the best.Friendly, nice atmosphere, good staff, what more could you ask for? Oh yeah, the food is really good as well! The scallop starter is gorgeous as was the veal and parma main I had yesterday.If you just want pizza you can't go wrong either. Do the simple things well and the rest just falls into place. It has a sister restaurant in Westcliff as well also called Il Pallazzo, which is equally as nice but for some reason this one just edges it for me.

Went there last night without a booking, was welcomed in even though they were nearly full. They have a brilliant idea a 2 course meal ( from a good selection) for £9.99 per person Sunday - Friday. (Which also was why they were very nearly full.) We thought that it would take a long time to get served, but they were wonderful, so helpful, couldn't do enough! So we were looked after from the moment we entered to the moment we left. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a good decent meal ( they don't do small, don't know what that means!!) at a reasonable price.

Authentic Italian menu; they were happy to make pasta dishes in half size for a Primi to make room for a Secondi /main course. Good variation of meat and seafood; pasta well-cooked. Good service. Complimentary grappa!

The new menu is ideal and means we have even more things to try out now.Many of the things we like are still on the menu and with the specials board we always have things to try.The staff are amazing and make all feel like they know them.

I've not been here since it was the lemon tree and after reading mixed reviews I decided to go for the 2 course set menu. The staff were very attentive without becoming annoying. The portion sizes were amble and very tasty. I enjoyed the breaded mushrooms to start and escalope of pork for main, my wife had the pate to start and lasagna for main. £9.95 per head. Only small downside was the wine was quite expensive. Will definitely return.

Amazing atmosphere the staff couldn't have done more for us, lovely Garlic Bread with cheese starter, partners Spaghetti Bolognese was very filling, great portion and my Meat feast pizza with added rocket was sublime. Even managed room for a lovely gelato ice cream dessert, my girlfriend had profiteroles that were to die for. Beautiful decor and atmosphere, turned the music down when asked and allowed us to eat in pure bliss ha! Will definitely recommend to any couple, family or Italian food lover! Fantastic food at a very affordable price, could not fault it at all :)

We visited mid July on recommendation for a pre-theatre meal and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! As expected we were treated with classic Italian warmth and gratitude and were made to feel very welcome, we enjoyed the bruschetta which was full of flavour and very tasty followed by a steak for my Husband and a Pollo Pizza for myself. After a glass or two of the house red wine, we were overly satisfied and will be returning again soon!Thank You Il Palazzo.Carol
