Ideal Fish And Chips in Bromsgrove

First and last time here unfortunately the chips were disgusting greasy and cold chicken was ok but have been up all night with a bad stomach.Dont know how they can charge people what they do and serve them inedible food it’s disgusting

Kebabs are wonderful from here Plenty of parking by the side of the Black Cross Pub Fish is really nice also from here and they do orange chips bonus 👍🏻

the service was great all the staff are working very hard. However the chips were very undercooked. this is not the first time i have had under cooked chips from here.

Too expensive for the quality you get. We know there’s been inflation, and demand has also probably gone down, but the level of price increases aren’t justifiable. They’re not justifiable because as prices have gone up, the quality has gone down. It’s really not hard to get the batter on a cod right - the right batter mix, the right oil at the right temperature, cooked for the right amount of time; when it’s what your business does, there’s no excuses for soggy batter and slimy fish. And that’s not even recognising how small a “large” cod is. It’s become a bit of a running joke for us, and we’ve had enough - not paying it again.

I havent been to a chip shop in a while Since when did kebab and chips for 2 go up to £30 Meat was not cooked enough tasted a little like jelly , and salad wasn’t what I expected

The good was the lovely fish, freshly cooked as I like it. The bad were the chips, simply awful, I should have been suspicious when the girl poured them into the box and they sounded like tumbling dominoes. When I got home they were inedible, dry hard and pale in colour. I have been served warmed up chips before but never anything as bad as this. We threw them in the bin. It was a quiet Monday night and the shop was staffed by a young crew but chips of this quality should not have been allowed to leave the shop.

Shocking food, I ordered cheese and chips not know it was just cheese sauce in the microwave warmed up. The burger is deep fried and the bun was warmed up in microwave. If you can’t cook a burger on a grill it is not a burger. Go somewhere else for food. Also says it open till 10 but at 9.40 they do not want to cook for you. Stay away

Last July I gave this place a five star rating. Following my last two visits I feel bound to update my recent experiences. The chips have been dry, hard and over cooked while the once wonderful fish has also been overcooked with crusty hard batter, probably due to too much time spent being kept warm. This is not good enough and does not warrant the high cost of a fish supper. I fear this place has joined the numerous fish and chip shops in Bromsgrove that have become inconsistent. I doubt we will return soon.

Trying to be as fair as possible…. We’ve ordered a good many times from Ideal F&C in Bromsgrove, since early 2022. Initially, going to collect the food ourselves, it became more convenient to order it as a delivery. The food quality was always exceptional. The last three times however, were not perfect: The first time was nobody’s fault due to road closures and bad weather. So I am discounting that, although the food was stone cold when it did arrive and hour past the latest expected delivery time (an hour after the orders placed): I would have thought it would have been at least like warm. The second and third time the food was, again, delivered at least 40 minutes past the latest expected delivery time (an hour after placing the food order). Both times the food arrived cold, so we had to order from elsewhere. This last time, I decided to lodge a complaint. My complaint was taken seriously. I was offered free food/discount on my next order. I said no thank you, id prefer a refund. I was promised a refund. And that is exactly what has happened. My refund was made. The food quality (when hot) is superb. The honesty and integrity of Ideal Fish and Chips is equally superb. Yes, we’ve had as couple of bad experiences. But they have restored my faith in them as a business. In future, I’ll go and collect the food myself, rather than relying on the (poor) delivery service. That way I can return my refund straight back in to this honest and great business. Thank you Ideal F&C Bromsgrove!

I visited Ideal after seeing an advertisement for a lunch menu, available until 2pm. It was 1.50 so I was within this time. However, I was told this wasn’t available as they were setting up to close, despite it not being closing time. I asked if there was anything else that was available within the lunch menu that was advertised and told no. I left empty handed. False advertising and a disappointment to a regular customer.

Called in quickly to order 20 portions of food for 20 hungry scouts from the local scout camp site. Was greeted by friendly staff and served quickly and all fresh food cooked for us. Couldn’t do enough to help us, even gave us a keep warm bag to make sure they were still piping hot when they got back to the camp site.

We have just had a delivery from the Ideal Fish Bar and it was exceptional. The driver was friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious - flavoursome fish and crispy batter. It all arrived piping hot. The portions were generous and represented great value for money. Highly recommended.

My usual fish and chip shop has really declined recently, maybe because they have grown the delivery side of the business, so I have decided to try somewhere new. I haven't been to this place for many years and it has certainly changed, much better interior, well laid out. My large cod was cooked freshly for me and the chips were the best I have had for some time. I certainly don't mind waiting when the food is freshly made. I have learnt not to judge a place by one visit, but the signs are good and I will return.

I have been living in Bromsgrove for over 10 years and have always used IDEAL chip shop! Quality fish and quality chips. Highly recommend!!! Thanks guys

Have used this chippy twice since living in Bromsgrove for 2 years and each time I've kicked myself for parting with my hard earned cash. Ordered mixed meat and chips in a tray X 3 and a "regular' curry sauce. After being ignored while standing at the counter for more than a few minutes, I was finally asked for my order which looked less than appealing when dished up. Unfortunately as well as the service & presentation of the 'food' being abysmal, the taste was also totally inadequate. The kebab meat was in thick chunks all stuck together as though it had been hacked with a spoon. The chips were meagre and tasted like they were fried a week ago. The 'curry' sauce was the texture of lumpy wallpaper paste and nothing like the consistency everyone expects from a decent chippy. Overall, my impression of 'Ideal' combined with my experience on the whole means that I will never use this place again. If this chippy is popular it is only due to the fact that any other chippy's in the locality must be equally as shocking but maybe 'Ideal' is the closest of a bad bunch for people to choose from. My advice - TRAVEL FURTHER AND AVOID.

Went tonight for a kebab. Dont get me wrong, the taste was very good but it was just too small. I dont have salad so there was a big gap at the top of the pitta, it was about 3/4 full but when you go to Charlie's or oceans they are filled to the brim and for less money. My friend had finished hers by the time we had reached all saints church lol. You really need to fill them more, £5.50 is a lot of money for what you get. To think you can get a beautiful carvery for 50p more for lunch. Which is what people will choose after lock down.

Great having the app to order at home and just drive to pick it up. Speeds up time and stops cluttering of shop.

Told by a friend how good this place is so me and my partner went in the afternoon. the prices were higher than any chippy I've been to outside a city center what they charge for a cone of chips is the same as some chippies large bag of chips. The chips were leftovers from the night before shriveled hard brown tasteless recooked if i had known thus id never bother as its lazy and chesp yet they charge over tho odds the savloy was a standard savloy not sure why it costs more here and the staff there look lost and in the wrong job. I've not had a chippy have the nerve to serve recooked fried food in a long time I hope they don't do the same with there meats but odds on they do. Recommend stay the hell away.

great food shame we had to wait for nearly an hour to be served, it seems they do the internet orders first before they serve the people waiting outside in the queue,this the second time this has happened. never again!

Did click and collect. Not busy but had to wait outside 10 minutes then got in when other customer came out only to wait inside another 10 minutes which I don’t mine waiting for fresh chips etc BUT when I was eventually served they got my order off the top of the counter that had been there all the time since I arrived. Complained and was told the chips will be fine. Got home to soggy cold fish and chips. Thanks for nothing. Crap service crap chips.

Since Merchants closed for refurb at Xmas that side of Redditch has struggled for a decent chippy, worth the drive over each time to this one. Fantastic fish and chips and side of gravy is perfect.

We had fish and chips on May 1 We order 4 fish and chip, and found the chips terrible. And all of us throw the chips away to birds. We will go ,decision go else where.

Went with family at 20:30 closing time of this chip shop is 22:00 I had a kebab which was not cut fresh off the skewer instead all kebab meat for the rest of the night was sectioned into tiny portions made as presets for when customers ordered, portion size was very small for a £5 kebab! Everything in the shop had been stripped apart and cleaned holding very little food for customers to order, chips were ok Kebab was cold.

Visited for a group order for our cubs camping near by. We had 8 meals and 11 portions of chips and everything was bang on. Hot fresh and full of flavour. Thanks to the team for sorting it all out

Very poor portions for the money ask them not to put chips in the polystyrene tray and they still do ive toldghdm this makes them sweat not nice

Just had the worse fish and chips ever. Chips were last nights or cooked from lunchtime. They were over cooked and all I could taste was perfume and a sweet taste. Fish was ok but had better. Ordered a bread roll and no butter on it.. waste of time effort and money

We could not be bothered to cook dinner tonight so we tried the Ideal and it was ideal. We both had cod and chips with curry sauce, the chips and curry were great and the cod was perfectly cooked. This isn’t the first time we have had a meal from this establishment and it won’t be the last.

We stop here very occasionally when coming home through Bromsgrove in the late evening. The place is always spotless and the staff great. We tried their new spicy curry sauce tonight which tasted wonderful although perhaps a bit thin. Will be stopping here again.

Absolutely Horrible, Came here the weekend for some food ordered curry sauce chips and 2 "large" cods having paid £5 each for them you would think that they would be large but they was not much bigger than the small and they tasted awful the batter was horrible the fish was better off in the bin, The chips were horrible and cold, The Curry sauce was all lumpy and had bits that was all most like jelly in it. And for customer service saw a girl blow her nose and cough into her hands and continue serving without washing her hands thankfully she never served me.(Food Standards Agency had been contacted)

Popped in here on the off chance and was delighted with the food purchased. Staff spotless, obliging and most polite and helpful.

went there for the first time last night having been recommended by a friend, i live the other side of catshill and when i got home my food was still piping hot and all tasted lovely would go back 110%, it was all nice and clean aswell and all the staff were polite and so well presented. 10/10

Had my usual Chicken Kebab and chips from Ideal and wasn’t disappointed. The chips were lovely and fresh and the kebab well filed with meat and crisp salad. We use ideal for its clean and consistently high standard of food.

Used to go here a lot before they started redecorating the flats above.always used to get a good portion of chips and a really large piece of fish it's used to be very hot and nice. Recently called in chips were limp and tasted like they had been in the warmer a long time, as for the fish it was not much bigger than the mini fish.when I mentioned how small it was I was told o it's just the way I cut it.dont know what that means but don't think I'm going there again.so don't really recommend this chippy any more

We frequent Ideal every Friday for lunch as we can preorder online and by the time we get to the shop it’s ready. I have been using ideal for nearly two years now and only ever felt the food or order was not what it should be twice within those two years. So usually a very good standard and a friendly serving team too.

When placing our order we was told by the other server that they hadn't got any onion rings and only 3 pieces of sfc left, it was only 6.30pm if it was 11.30pm I would of understood it. When we got our order home everything was OK except the curry sauce looked and tasted like it was watered down. Won't be going back.

We hadn't used this chippy before because its father away from the Town and the mixed reviews but a friend recommended it to us so we thought give it a try. As instructed I ordered haddock when walking in and stepped to one side for other customers to be served. After what seemed an age the young lady serving who was very good at her job took my full order. It was another age after many customers had entered and left before the haddock, cod, chips and peas arrived. When I arrived home my wife's cod was acceptable but the haddock was dry and tasteless and at £4.60p that is not acceptable. The meal was far from IDEAL so we will not bother in future.

We bought a portion of chips, a potato scallop and a carton of mushy peas as a quick meal to go with some left over cold roast meat. What a disappointment! Both the chips and the scallop were very dry and the batter was very hard, almost as if they had been reheated. We were unable to eat either the chips or scallop and threw them away.

I ordered a chicken meat & chips this was over £5 on the price list which is steep and wasn't anything special. but when i paid for it, i was charged extra 15p for tomato sauce! & another £1 for Salad!!!! almost £7!! the worst part is the server didn't even say it was extra until she had already put it on the food! complete rip off will never go here again.. I even said that to the server "if your going to charge me £1 for salad, then i wont be coming back" but she didn't care and the other employee working agreed it was a rip off!!

Decent fish and chip shop opposite the high street. Food is average, reasonably priced. Service can be a little slow. Sometimes they can mess up the order because when I went on a separate occasion, my cousin ordered sausage and she got a burger! We enjoyed it anyway!

Have been here on more than one occassion and each time it never disappoints! Spotlessly clean, helpful staff, (also spotlessly clean!) and above all really delicious freshly cooked fish and chips and generous servings

Pedimos pescado pequeño y estaba preparado a pedido cuando llegué a casa y lo unwrapped buscaba el pescado y entonces nos dimos cuenta de que era, era del tamaño de un dedo de pescado. El aspecto de inmediato me desanime, allí donde marcas negras bajo el bateador y estaba mojado y pasada no había color. Probé el pescado y el bateador era rosada y aún así era viscoso y el pescado no me gusto mucho mejor. Fui con hambre ya que era incomible. Sería de cero clasificado comienza si pudiera.

One of the best in bromsgrove! But it would of had 5 stars from us if the chips were slightly more crispy! Overall good though!

El viernes por la noche siempre hay una cola en la carretera desde el Chippie. El servicio es agradable y eficiente y que pueden enfrentar el más difícil de los pedidos.

I use this chip shop regularly and I think it's better than any of my local chip Shop's.It's very clean.Good selection.Great Onion rings.Meal deal options.Generous portions.Good menu.The staff are all nice and friendly and clean.

wots going on,food was brilliant here a few weeks ago but my recent visit I was served dry chips,a battered sos that was half size and mini fish that was mega mini.if this keeps up I shall go elsewhere.

I've used this chippy for at least 10 years and I always rate others by how they compare to this one. The fish is always great and the chips are never too greasy.

In my opinion this is the best chip shop in bromsgrove, yes it's busy and you often have to queue (sometimes out of the shop) but that just shows how popular it is. The portions are a good size and they use good quality produce (currently maris piper potatoes, which make good chips) The food is always hot and the staff pleasant.

Used here for years and will continue to. Great service and pretty quick even when it's busy. Haddock is always huge and the large chips is exactly that - LARGE. Always fresh and never had re-cooked chips - like a lot of places. Excellent reputation locally and well deserved. Location is great too with parking close by.

Quick lunchtime snack, chips and curry sauce. Delicious.Will have to try Fish & Chips next time. Premises spotlessly clean and a good choice of menu.

Ideal is our local chip shop and we all enjoy the food we order, efficient service and very clean, you pay a little extra, but I think it's worth it for the standard.

We drive across Bromsgrove regularly to get our fish & chips, great range on menu, portions very good, extremely clean and they will cook to order if you ask. If you like onion rings just go for them!!!! don't hang around get hope while they are hot.

While staying over in Bromsgrove on a Saturday evening, I went to the Ideal chip shop for something to eat. This is an experience, I won't want to repeat in a hurry. The shop was busy, as you would expect on a Saturday evening, around 8pm. There were 5 people in front of me and several hanging around. There was 1 person serving and 3 or 4 other staff behind the fryer. Everyone who ordered was waiting for food. The staff would pack what food order was available, then place them on top of the fryer to keep warm (which doesn't work), while the rest of the order was being cooked. A slow, disorganised process. I had steak & kidney pie and chips. The lad serving went behind the fryer to fetch the pie, which took ages. He then made up the meal and I left 30 mins after arriving. What a joke!!! The review doesn't end there !! The pastry of the pie was almost raw and uncooked (pic attached). It had been microwaved. If the shop hadn't got a properly cooked pie ready, they should have said. The chips weren't much better. They were very dry and powdery. A very disappointing experience.

So Fresh food. Plaice and Haddock scrumptious. Chips very traditional tasting. Shop very clean. Staff polite caring and fast serving. Young man serving had a lovely beaming smile, made you feel happy when he smiled. Very nice would visit again when in this area.

This is one of only 2 chippies I like in Bromsgrove. The chips are very good, which is the most important factor for me. The fish is also great and the service is swift.

Recently visited and had the cod and chips. Excellent. In my opinion the best fish and chip shop in the area by a country mile.

We have lived in Bromsgrove for 10 years, and have seen this chippy evolve over the years. It has had a lovely refit, but they have forgotten that the quality of their chips is the most important thing. Small portions because they can only fill a small tray, because they have to carry the chips to the front counter. Small portions are fine - but not when they have a significant number of bad chips. The best part about the chippy is its friendly staff - and the owners seem to work hard. They do a couple of specials, but nothing like mini fish and chips etc - which makes them expensive. We used them for a good while, because there wasn't any good alternative - but we have now found a new chippy in the town centre (wont name, as I don't want to advertise). If this chippy put on more specials I would give it a go again - but please pick your potatoes carefully and remove the bad ones. Last thing - they could do with making their batter crispy, as it is quite greasy and soggy.

Never visited this fish and chip shop before but decided to try after strong recommendations from friends.There is free parking right outside the shop which makes it easy for those who drive.On first impressions the shop is bright and clean and does not have the "feel" of those grotty takeaway joints you might find on some high streets.The staff are experienced and I'm not sure if it was the owner or manager who did the cooking but I can honestly say I haven't had cod and chips like this for a very long time !Perfectly cooked, non greasy and just the right amount. A bit sad I know , but I like to think that I am a "chip conniseur " and I must admit these were so nice I popped back in the following day for another portion.I noticed a poster on the wall that they have raised money for the Primrose Hospice which is a nice touch too.A business that's got it right AND has a heart !....go try it's worth the trip !

Simply classic food. Generous portions and definitely not greasy. The clean and modern interior make it an inviting place to order our weekly fish and chips.

What a delight at the end of our long journey. A really beautiful piece of cod that was freshly cooked and therefore the batter was crispy well worth the wait. But did not realise until I was leaving that I could have had fresh roe which would have been the first time in many years

Top chippy in town...have fish n chip regular from here can't fault it...always fresh..friendly staff & good value..nicely presented in a box.
