The food and service here was great, definitely worth a trip for authentic Thai food. Pim is a great host and very accommodating, he asked us if there was anything off the menu that we wanted that you would get in Thailand. Great experience and hope to go back soon. Has to be one of the Top Thai restaurants I have been too.

The best food I've had in ages - authentic quality Thai food cooked from scratch. Pim (the chef) also cooked requested dish of morning glory, as well as being able to make everything gluten free. Cosy and homely restaurant with a unique atmosphere, it was lovely chatting with Pim who is clearly a talented musician as well as chef ! Next time we’ll be going when we have more time to spend of an evening.

Wasn’t exactly sure what the expect but had the best time! Food was incredible, so fresh and Pim explained all the flavours and techniques. He entertained us throughout the meal with songs and stories, then brought us the most incredible homemade ice cream. A very unique experience and would love to bring my friends for a fun evening. Pim is a great host, and was so appreciative for our business. Definitely recommend!

Going to Pim’s restaurant was definitely an experience, an amazing one. The atmosphere of the place is incredible, Pim’s energy is contagious, it flows everywhere. You can feel Pim’s passion in the flavour of his dishes, it’s so authentic. After dinner, Pim plays his guitar and start sing to everyone, he is a great entertainer. Totally recommend it, and I’ll definitely come back soon.

Pim cooks really tasty Thai food. The menu does change, and you have to order ahead of time via text. We had satay chicken to start, the satay sauce was insanely good and the chicken well cooked and juicy. Dim Sum was tasty but paled in comparison to the satay sauce. Mains we had massamam curry, rich and deeply flavoured well it partnered well with jasmine rice. Also had tamarind duck which was absolutely stunning, juicy fatty deboned duck with a sweet sticky tamarind sauce. Had the coconut rice alongside this which was incredibly tasty itself. It's bring your own drinks, so you save a bomb if you fancy some wine with the meal. Pim loves getting the guitar out and signing for you after too! Highly recommend pims. Edit 2023: Pim has smashed it out the park again. This time I had Chicken Chilli Basil and it was absolutely stunning. Unbelievably good flavours. The Satay starter was again divine. Pim even did karaoke with us after!

Excellent place for a great night out with friends! The Thai food is excellent, Pim's Massaman curry was the best I've ever had👍 Great atmosphere possibly helped by the fact you can bring your own booze 😁 After he's cooked the fabulous food, Pim comes out of the kitchen and plays his guitar! Amazing Thai food and a great atmosphere. We ended up having a little jam session with Pim on the guitar and keyboard then did karaoke. Pim is a great host and made us all feel at home and created a really fun ambience. I will definitely be going back!

We found this unassuming place on Google Maps - called to make a booking and had the best Thai food we’ve ever had outside Thailand! Pim is a passionate chef and cooks to order, so you should call to book and tell him what you’d like to eat. He’ll buy the ingredients fresh that day. It’s a quirky atmosphere, which adds to the whole experience. If you like Thai food, you must try this place!

What a night! We were lucky to get a walk in spot (we will book next time!!) Food is amazing, authentic and sooo tasty! We had the true pleasure to listen to Pim also sing and play multiple instruments, this man is an inspiration!! We love it so so much, we will be coming back!!

Pim's is truly a unique experience. And whatever you imagine when I say 'unique', you won't come close. Pim's is best described as visiting a colleagues house for dinner who then serenades and entertains you afterwards. Pim's restaurant is realy a few tables set up that feel like you're in a friend's garage, complete with Mr Pim's own clutter and knick-knacks. The kitchen is over the room and the toilet directly through the kitchen. The food is amazing, clearly homecooked and lovingly made (as Mr Pim learnt from his mother, he reports). The panang curry and chicken satay were my favourites, though the tom yum soup was also divine. Food comes quick and bubbling straight from the stove with no frills or baubles. Truly it feels like homecooked meal. Afterwards, Mr Pim sat and chatted with us, seranaded us with Bob Dylan songs, and taught us how to sing. It is clear that music is Mr Pim's true passion (there are many instruments hung up on the walls) and he really knows the science behind music. It may have been helped by the fact I was with a family who had visited before, but he really was easy going, felt like he had invited us into his home, and just wanted to share his life. An extraordinary talented happy individual. Pim's is not a classical restaurant, and if you are seeking a formal dining experience, this is not for you. If you want great food solely, his takeaway is undoubtedly good as well, I am sure. But if you can be open minded, accept that you aren't getting tip-top serving standards, restaurant decor or even restuarant-grade cleanliness, but are there for a fun time, to enjoy authentic Thai cooking and Thai personality in someone's home, Pim's is extrodinary. Pim is such a welcoming and happy host, who cooks the most authentically delicious Thai food and will provide you with an evening you will never forget! My husband took me to Pims for my birthday today . We had the best time and the food was phenomenal! I've eaten a lot of Thai food in the UK and Thailand and this is the best I've had. The flavours were absolutely on point. We'll 100% be coming back Pim. Thank you ever so much. All 3 of us thought every dish was a taste sensation and delicious :)

This is an experience of flavour, culture cuppled up with a real passion and a love for food. If you find your self wanting to eat something that's incredibly tasty, that will leave you wishing you had room for more then this is the place. This is hands down the best Thai food I've eaten and that includes whilst traveling in Thailand equally. Pim is such a great character he cooks with his heart and you can taste that in the food he serves you, please do your self a favour and go try this food you will not be disappointed. Brilliant atmosphere will visit again

Pim is a lovely guy, and his food is absolutely incredible. For starters, I had the mango salad and my friend the satay tofu... I'm not normally a fan of tofu but my mind was blown, I've no idea how he cooked it to taste like that, but wow. Every dish was perfect, incredible Flavours and just 2 dishes was more than enough. Highly recommend, small groups at the moment, but I'm going to tell all my friends about this place

I’d heard about Pims and how much fun it was. So when we had some friends down from London I thought it’d be a good chance to try it out. Was not disappointed. The food is so tasty! Then the man himself, Pim, comes out with a guitar and sings a song or two. This place & pim bring that spark of Thailand culture and the Thai people to Cardiff. We’ll be back soon

So went to Pimms a few months ago and totally forgot to leave a review as I've been very busy with things..... We turned up around 7pm a group of 5 of us all carrying many bottles of beer, Pimm's doesn't sell alcohol so its bring your own... we bought a lot of Thai and Chinese beers to go with our amazing Thai meal. Now my girlfriend and her sister had been previously with friends and had enjoyed so much we decided to go there one evening. Pimm and his wife were lovely and so accomodating even offering to unbottle the beers for us. Then came the food, the curries are delciious, fresh and full of flavour, we had starters, the rest going for chicken with satay sauce and myself going for chicken with bean curd, not a fan of satay sauce so wanted to try something else. I was asked by staff if I was allergic which I said no just wanted to try the bean curd sauce. When food came I tried the satay sauce which was lovely blend of nuts and spices, the bean curd was like a thai curry sauce, which was fresh, spicy and gorgeous. Pimm even added secretly under the chicken a small dash of his satay sauce for me to try so i didn't miss out!! Thank you Pimm that was greatly appreciated and I even thanked him during the meal Then we moved on to the curries and extras! Let me just say Pimms, Icookthai is such an amazing little restaurant, the food is fresh, delicious and incredible and at the end of the night chef Pimm serenaded everyone with a lovely sing-song and performance on his guitar and harmonica! Pims is the best Thai you will find in Cardiff. If you want an evening with a difference and some food and music for the soul Pims is the place to go.!! Its an experience not to be missed Pim himself is amazing, teaching you about the food you eat and entertaining everyone on his guitar and harmonica!! If you enjoy a good singsong then go on a weekend! Best to order in advance as everything is cooked from scratch, no pre-prepared sauces here Hence if you don't want it too spicy He can accommodate ( I say this as I take my 8-year-old so Pim makes green Thai curry for him mild!) Its by far the best tasting authentic Thai I've had next to Thailand It's quirky in the sense that you have to walk through the kitchen to the toilet but you will no doubt pick up a tip from Pim on your way through about how to prepare broccoli correctly! His knowledge of food is endless and its an education at the same time. If you want fine dining then it's not your place Pim runs this place single-handedly and is one of the most humble people I've met Its not at all expensive and BYO so a good affordable night out but make sure you book and text as it only holds a small number of people and is busy.

Nice cozy little restaurant which feels more like a living room. Lovely food, well prepared and presented. Pim Serenaded us with some live guitar songs afterwards. We had a blast !!!

After reading the great reviews on this restaurant, we booked a table for 2 on a Friday evening, and ordered what we required in advance. Waited almost half an hour for our starters. Food was flavoursome, but very expensive for the portion sizes, only about 4 small pieces of chicken and beef in our green, and red curry’s, could of done with more rice too. Service was very poor, no one came to see if we were happy or had everything we needed. Most reviews spoke about a host called Pim, who apparently played various music to his or her quests, Pims was invisible to us, and no live music. Place was untidy and the toilet was a walk through the cooking area and an untidy storage area of tins, chemicals and an upended bike !!! Left the place feeling let down, no one came to talk to us or asked if we had enjoyed the meal. We are not fussy people, but will not be returning again. Could cook a Thai meal as good at home.

The food here is absolutely top class and the atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming. After an excellent meal we were royally entertained by wonderful music with the owner accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. An absolute treat from beginning to end. Will definitely return as frequently as possible.

Went there a few weekends ago. Despite arriving on the wrong night Pim could not have been more welcoming...even though there were 11 of us! ...and he was the only cook. Great food and Pim entertained us after the food with his singing, guitar playing ( think Bob Dylan with mouth organ as well )and some sage advice about life. Ok, so the loo is through the kitchen and the set up is all a bit front roomish, if you’re looking for a surreal night out with good food and entertainment and are fed up with the mainstream, I would highly recommend a visit. My only advice is to turn up on the right night...it helps!

Despite arriving a day early we got an excellent meal and fun entertainment. Not your standard evening out - all 11 of thought it was fab ! (BYO booze )

An experience! Good Thai food, reasonably priced. After dinner Pim got out his harmonica and played is a couple of songs.

Food was at a high taste quality and it wasn't greasy like some others more expensive Thai restaurant I have tried recently. The decor was ok and the table could have been cleaner but the overall experience was 5 stars especially with a kind young waiter that was patient and friendly.

Pims, BYOB was great as it keeps the bill low. Food was incredible. The Mrs and I shared two amazing starters, then both enjoyed lovely Thai curry’s. Restaurant was very average but this almost goes unnoticed as the food over weighs the actual restaurant. Pims himself the chef created a great atmosphere, once done with cooking, he came out and told us stories which then led into songs. He sang three songs for us using a guitar and a harmonica led by more stories and some advise on cooking. Highly recommend.

Omg what a place! Not only is the food superb! But the service and entertainment are tremendous you'll not be disappointed. In Fact we've even had Pim doing his thing at my son's house worth every penny! Just Outstanding I'm even considering having him at our house this summer. Please check it out.

For a Girls night out this is the only place to go! The food is just delicious and nothing is to much trouble for Pim. Between us we had a lot of dietary requirements and none of them phased Pim. All of the food is cooked fresh and its worth the wait, if you think you know Thai food then this is 10x more tasty. The restaurant is very quaint and feels like you have been invited into a home for a loving meal. If you are lucky enough Pim will give you a tune on one of his many instruments. What can I say.....a most talented man who cooks the most heart warming Thai food. A man of many talents who knows his every customer. Pims is an amazing chef who will cook your meal from scratch and serenade you with his guitar as well. We tried this place yesterday for the first time. It was amazing! Pim was so friendly and keen to share his best recipes with us. The food is the best time food in wales. I know I’ll be back!! He also is so accommodating to vegetarians!

Pim's restaurant is a true hidden gem. The shop front is understated and he doesn't advertise widely, choosing instead to concentrate on his craft. What you get with Pim is fresh and incredibly flavoursome, authentic Thai food. He really thinks about and gets the most out of his ingredients. On my second visit recently, I had a tofu massaman curry. You won't find that on the menu but Pim is very accommodating: ask and he will deliver! We had a couple of freebies thrown in, too. A nice touch. We are blessed to have as good a chef as Pim on our doorstep.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant, raving to all we know about it. On this particular occassion we came for my sister’s birthday, a party of 5 attending. Pim was the most thoughtful and attentive host, making every single detail incredible and magical. My sister was blown away by the touching and unique experience Pim provided. From going all out to make the most mindblowing food, attending to the needs of a vegan and pescatarian, we all thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful, each a transporting experience to somewhere incredible. The atmosphere was very relaxed, the perfect setting for a birthday celebration. Pim wonderfully welcomes all as a friend and will ensure you have the best experience, he acknowledges that we all have hard days at work and he does what he can to ensure your night transports you somewhere else. My sister had one of the most amazing birthday meals. The food here alone is worth the visit but Pim adds extra magic by showcasing his wonderful talent and enthusiasm for life by sharing music, helping you capture wonderful moments to share. Have to say it’s our go to place for any occassion, would recommend to anyone.

A fantastic little restaurant which stands out even on a street with a number of outstanding eateries. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced (as a table of 4 we were charged £64 for starters and mains, each given a free dessert). On top of exceptional food is the excellent service and atmosphere as well as post dinner entertainment you won't find anywhere else. The restaurant is small and you need to book in advance. It is also bring your own drinks. I urge anyone reading this to enjoy the unique experience that is Pim's!

A friend recommended this restaurant to me after she had a great experience, so I knew that I had to visit. We went early on a Friday evening before going to the theatre. I rang to book in advance, and I was asked to pre-order our food before arriving. It's quite small inside the restaurant, and we were the only ones in there while we ate. Pim (the owner - who cooks, serves and entertains all by himself!) was so welcoming and such a pleasant character. We had dim sum to start which was delicious, and I highly recommend ordering the Pad Thai for main, it was absolutely superb, so tasty! Pim sang us a song while playing the guitar, and he even gave us some chai tea with a biscuit on the house! I will definitely return and I recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves home-cooked Thai food and a unique dining experience.

Just finished off my takeaway from here. Having walked in I could see Pim busy in the kitchen, after a short wait I was handed my lovely fresh food by the most polite and happy looking chef I’ve ever met. The food was amazing! It felt beautifully home cooked and was so full of flavour. I’ll be eating here again and again. Well worth trying, thank you Pim.

A friend and I who haven't seen each other since meeting in Bangkok decided to try here in hopes of some authentic Thai food and we certainly had that and so much more. Delicious massaman curry and coconut rice, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic host and to top it off the unique experience of Pim also singing/playing guitar and harmonica after cooking. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for great food and an evening with a difference. Like nothing I've experienced in Cardiff before.

Excellent food and atmosphere ,good value.

Quite a small restaurant but great atmosphere. They don't have their own bar but they're a 2 minute walk from at least 2 supermarkets for you to stock up on, and they'll keep it chilled in their fridge for you. Food was delicious and Pim is very entertaining when he comes out with his guitar to sing for you afterwards. Fantastic value for money, highly recommended

Un lugar increíble, un ambiente muy auténtico, un restaurante muy pequeño pero agradable. Todo se hace todo por Pim - servicio, cocina y entretenimiento. La comida es increíble y todo está fresco, el menú no es extenso, pero Pim está contento de tener otras alternativas si se comunica con anticipación. Pim es el anfitrión más maravilloso, muy apasionado por su comida pero también un gran artista, cantando y tocando su guitarra para nosotros durante toda la noche. Una visita obligada!

Fui con mi hija a cumplir 30 años porque a ambos nos encanta la comida tailandesa y la comida no me decepcionó. Todo recién cocinado con atención a sabores del propio Pim. También esperó en las mesas ya que se trataba de un espectáculo de un solo hombre. El Pad Thai fue especialmente sabroso y el curry de Massaman perfectamente equilibrado.

This is a tiny restaurant so I would advise booking if you want to guarantee getting a table. The atmosphere is lovely and having the chef, Pim, serenade you with Dylan songs incorporating phrases suggested by the dinners at the end of the meal is certainly a unique experience. Also note that the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own (no corkage charge).

Excellent food and service ideal for small groups

A group of us went to this restaurant on a recommendation. It is a small friendly restaurant with delicious Thai food prepared by Pim, the owner. As a group we were quite happy to chat and enjoy ourselves while we waited for our food. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone who sits and counts the minutes until your food arrives. Each dish is freshly made, and the quality of food is well worth any wait. After we were served, Pim appeared with a harmonica and guitar and started to sing a Bob Dylan song. He asked for requests or phrases which he incorporated into songs. It was such an enjoyable evening that we went again the next night. The restaurant seats about 16 people, so reservations are recommended. It is also BYOB and prices of the dishes are very reasonable. Pim also offers Thai cooking classes, and if I lived in Cardiff I would definitely be taking those. I didn't notice if vegan or gluten free dishes were available, but Pim is so approachable that I imagine he would cater to any dietary needs if at all possible.

Went for a lovely birthday meal here last night- the food was without a doubt the tastiest Thai meal I’ve ever had, and then Pim sang for us and gave us some ice cream. He is a really kind man with lots of interesting stories- 100% coming back here as soon as possible!

My friend and I went for an early evening light meal. Immediately we entered we were greeted and shown to one of the few tables - it's a very small restaurant so I suggest booking as the place soon became full. The menu gave a small selection of dishes which indicated to me that that all were freshly prepared and didn't come precooked from a wholesaler.

Came here with people from work—Pim is usually not open of Tuesdays, but he opened to cook for us. Plate after plate I was amazed with such great quality and flavor; Pim was really friendly and a fantastic host. He even brought out his guitar and had the group singing! What a fantastic evening

Went with a friend with a peanut intolerance and pim suggested that he make the satay but with cashew nuts . He then ground the cashews in front of us showing us how he made the sauce . We then ordered green curry and he asked how spicy we liked it , and after having made the sauce he brought to the table for us to check it was ok before he then cooked it . Incredible - never experienced any thing as personal in a restaurant before- it was like having our own personal chef . . BYO wine at no service charge also excellent . This was my second visit and I will definately be a regular . Excellent food service and great experience .

The best restaurant in Cardiff. Pin cooks fresh to order and service is excellent. The food has many layers and textures. We love eating here and we can’t recommend it highly enough. If you like Thai, you’ll love icookThai. Best value meal in town. 3 courses for 3 of us for under £20 a head, freshly cooked by an expert chef - BARGAIN!
