Hussains in Stratford-on-Avon

Booked a table for 5 a week before. Turned up at agreed time and date to be told no booking. No apology, accused me of lying. Awful service and rude staff.

Great food, really lovely team, very welcoming atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. Highly recommended

Had supper here with my wife on Saturday 19th August 2023. The food was poor generally, and I woke at 2am with stomach pains. I spent the next 2 hours in the bathroom vomiting from my arse. Would not go back

The worst Indian meal i have ever had. Tasteless poor quality chewy tikka meat. little spice. small portions. expensive. Side veg curry comprised potato pieces floating in a gruel. Taking advantage of the short stay tourist trade i think. Insincere host. My 2 friends agreed.

After having the best Bhuna Prawns on Puree here 15 yrs ago we were not disappointed this time. We rated the meals as excellent- Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken, while the Bhuna Prawn was outstanding. It’s a bit off/around the corner from the main restaurant street and had plenty of free tables when we turned up without a booking.

Absolutely first class Indian food. I live in Leicester which is supposedly the curry capital of the East Midlands and my meal was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. Just gutted it’s not local to me !

We are local and often order takeaway from Husseins. We have eaten there once and had a lovely evening. Not so last night. Our waiter was really quite aggressive about our drinks. We wanted a couple of glasses of wine. He argued that it was better to buy a whole bottle. We asked for a wine list so we could see what choices they had. He brought a bottle, opened it and poured, then produced the wine list afterwards. So we felt bullied into making a choice we otherwise wouldn’t have made. The wine itself was pretty low-shelf stuff. It really spoilt the evening for us and we probably won’t eat there again. One bad experience is enough when there’s so much choice in Stratford. So just a little advice: When someone asks for the wine list, bring it and let the customer make the choice. Don’t make the choice for them. That’s not good service and, like the wine, leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.

After trying the stale poppadoms we were wary that we’d picked the wrong restaurant. After having the most tasty Indian meal ever we decided we was very wrong. The spices that came through to tingle your tastebuds was amazing. A chicken karahi will never be the same. Top marks to their chef.

If you are ever in Stratford upon avon this is a must visit family run restraunt, lovely atmosphere, fantastic food a d the service brilliant, our waiter Mot, could not do enough for us ,a great experience which we will certainly sample again. 10/10

We have been going to Hussains on our various visits to Stratford since the mid-1980s, and forty years of consistently excellent food in the same restaurant is quite extraordinary. Hussains seems to specialize in sauces, and they are beautifully prepared, spicy, and served in hot skillets, just like always. It's a small place, usually quite crowded, but it maintains a quiet elegance and a steady quality.

We eat at Hussain”s regularly and think the food is excellent, as is the service. We always receive a friendly welcome and prices are very reasonable.

Such a shame. We feel really let down. We are locals and come here often. The food is usually great and service of a high quality. Tonight the food was okay. Tasty but a bit over cooked (king prawn tandoori in particular) and portion sizes a bit smaller. Anyway, not a big issue, but on getting the bill, we were sorry to say the waiter tried to actively con us on contactless. The bill was £62 and the waiter rung up £82. I always double check the amount when being asked to pay by contactless and immediately as I asked to see the amount there was an apology of “oh sorry, sorry”. It is possible it was innocent but it seemed highly suspicious and we won’t be coming back as a result. What a shame! If you do go, double check your bill!

Rubbish, we were late but not at closing time, but said could do a take away for us. Tasteless food, exceptionally disappointed, no spice, hardly any peas in muttar panner, or panner!!Very little paneer in sagg panner and was watery and sweet. Tarka Dhal, best of bad bunch, but not great. Very little chicken in jalfraze. Totally poor food. I do not like to give bad reviews, however this was not good. You need to do better!!

Bland, inauthentic food with a passing resemblance to Indian cuisine. Very disappointing experience. The place is unkempt and without any ambience. We went there because all other places were full.

Hussains is reputed to probably be the best curry in town which given Stratford's dearth of Indian eateries, probably isn't such a huge accolade. However, the food is very good, the ambience, authentic, and the service, excellent.

This was a lovely restaurant. Warm greeting, staff were very attentive. Good menu and well priced. We had popadoms with chutneys to start followed by chicken biryani and chicken madras with rices and breads. I’d go as far to say best biryani I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a fair few) would visit again If we were in the area.

I've tried hussains a few years back and it was always spot on best Indian in Stratford.But notice they have slipped with the hygiene now a 4(instead of the 5) didn't stop us from going felt very safe and comfortable all staff were wearing masks.I ordered the tikia masala tasted more like a buhna and some of the chicken was not cooked!My friend ordered the korma same chicken was not cooked everyone else's was fine,personally I won't be returning.

We dropped in as we were having a day out in Stratford, very welcoming staff, all wearing masks.Lovely food - oh how I’ve missed a good Indian meal I noticed the staff spraying & cleaning menus after use, and the kitchen staff were masked up too, so it felt very ‘safe’, other diners were placed socially distanced at tables with good spacing.I salute the management and staff being so diligent.

We’ve been to many Indian restaurants but this one was absolutely outstanding!!!! The food choice was brilliant and the food was amazing!! The service was excellent with all members of staff very professional with all the new guidelines and very friendly!! Don’t walk past this restaurant without going in!! You won’t be disappointed!!!!

Last night of a get together with colleagues, and a good venue. Very welcoming and friendly. Quite a lengthy menu so difficult to choose, but all well presented and delicious when it came Would recommend for sure!

The food here is exceptional. The staff seem cavalier about this fact - like they know it's great but are absolutely riding that wave. This was the second time I've visited and both times have been unreal. Friendly, non intrusive yet attentive service. Amazing food - lamb jalfrezi or the sashlemon dishes. Can't go wrong. I visit Stratford many times a year and I try and get here each time.

To look at this place, it seems dated but if you look past the decor you will find a great restaurant. The staff were friendly and the food was great. We have the Hussains recommended A menu. £44.95 for two people and that is 3 courses with tea or coffee. We were both stuffed by the end of the meal

Was staying overnight in Stratford and fancied a curry. Went into Hussains and promptly given a table.Now to the food...stale poppadoms to start, curries came, tasteless processed chicken in both meals. Left most of it and not even asked why. To add insult, it was not cheap at 13 pound per dish.Do yourself a favour and avoid this establishment.

Really nice provincial curry - not at all hot, but I think you could have asked if you wanted a hotter dish. We have visited here many times over the years and it is always something special. This visit was no exception as we travelled over 80 miles for an amazing lunch for my sons Birthday. We had 2 courses each of the most delicious food, served by a warm, attentive friendly member of staff.We all started with poppadoms followed by a family favourite, king prawn pathia on puree, a wonderfuly sweet and sour dish served on a light bread base (see picture). For mains we had chicken makhani, chicken and mushroom balti, and lamb sathlemon.
