Visited the Hungry Guest Cafe when it was in its old location and it was fabulous. Today was a totally different experience. The cafe is now outdoors only which seems like a very strange decision but covered by big parasols and there are blankets. When it came to ordering drinks we wanted to order breakfast tea and were told they had run out of tea, and only had peppermint. It is a Sunday but no cafe that is efficiently managed should run out of tea. There is a Co-op shop just across the car park so a bit of initiative from staff could have seen the problem solved. After a wait of approximately 45 minutes our food had not arrived and a waitress came to clear our drinks and asked if we had finished. We are pretty sure they had forgotten to put the food order through as it was only quiche and salad and a sandwich and the cafe was not that busy. When the food eventually came it was tasty but sadly slightly ruined by the wait. Having said that staff were extremely polite and friendly but won’t be enough to make us visit again. What a shame.

Rather disappointing I decided to have the onion and balsamic vinegar tart and salad and all I got was a tart that was warm and some lettuce nothing else I had an oh grey tea asked for milk it never arrived and my husband was having the pie and cheese and pickle and bread and it came out with no cheese so I then asked and they said oh we haven’t got any cheese, but why don’t they tell you that when you’re ordering something it was quite annoying And for the price of it it wasn’t satisfactory for either part

Popped in for coffee & lunch recently. Quite pricey for what it was but some lovely items to choose from. There were two members of staff serving and their attitudes couldn't have been more different. The lady making coffee was warm, friendly and engaging- a polar opposite to the young lady serving food and taking the money - incredibly rude and abrupt, everything was too much trouble. Such a shame as her attitude lets the place down.

Went for a hot chocolate for a treat with my mum. The staff were rude , and served us two cold hot chocolates. When we asked for them to be heated up, the girl serving replied “really?!” and then sullenly said that she would make them again. We were served them both times in paper cups, and when we asked for mugs were told that she didn’t want to wash up another mug and the dishwasher wasn’t on so they didn’t have enough. Appalling service

Arrived with fellow cyclists at cafe next to car park adjacent to art gallery. No other patrons. Ordered coffees and the pricey HG sausage sandwiches. Waited ages for initially four coffees , again for another four , then ages for the sausage sandwiches that looked thrown together with little care and no finesse. Then finally the last coffee and tea arrived very much after the other coffees and sandwiches had been consumed. We waited much too long to be served and were disappointed with the finish of the sandwiches. Poorly run and maybe under staffed. The patio heaters did take off the chill and the blankets on the seats were appreciated.

The Hungry Guest Food Shop is situated at the corner of Petworth High Street and Middle Street. It sells all types of food and drinks, all of which are of good quality. Most of the food is very fresh and is locally sourced. The same is true of many of the drinks. Eating is available inside in a small cafe area or takeaway. A full range of drinks are available to drink in the shop or to take home. A special chilled cheese room with a large selection of special cheeses is available. Staff friendly and efficient

We arrived looking for brunch and were advised to head to their sister cafe - down the hill - we arrived to find it closed! Initially ignored on returning whilst the staff finished their personal conversations was offered no apology for the error and then given two toasted sandwiches which both had fallen apart in bag making them incredibly difficult to eat - had to wait for them to finish another personal chat whilst we waited to ask for cutlery to enable us to eat. Such a lovely shop but seriously let down by staff today.

I love sourdough bread, I make it every week and have done for years. The benefits of real sourdough made with the wild yeast starter are now well known. Yesterday I went in and bought a loaf of sourdough, and I asked the lady behind the counter if they used bakers yeast, as well as the sourdough starter in making the loaves - she said they do. This disappointed me. Using Baker‘s yeast means it speeds up the process of fermentation, therefore the full benefits of sourdough are lost. I won’t be buying sourdough from the shop again, but I have to say there is a very good range of cheeses and other foods available. I like to take a break, sometimes from the making my own bread, finding authentic sourdough is almost impossible.

What a shop! If we hadn;t been staying ina nearby hotel we could have bought so much, the dried good were unusual and the fresh counter just overflowing with amazing stuff! No wonder it was so busy

A great place to stock up your larder & fridge... from freshly baked bread, cakes, pasta, veg, hummus, etc to condiments, jams and pickles. The chilled cheese room offers a vast selection of cheeses - and the coffee and sandwiches to takeaway are delicious. Definitely worth a drive to!

I do not mind paying high prices for quality with good service. This place unfortunately has the high prices but not the quality or friendly service. One of the loaves we bought was not fresh bordering on stale. The other one was good. One of the staff did not make you feel welcome. We were very disappointed as we thought we had found a foodie source nearby. Been there, done it and never again.

I entered teh shop for a take away as I was shopping in Chichester and was hungry. I saw a very inviting looking pasty 'Beef and chilli' advertised at £4.70 take way price. I offered a £5 Bank of England note (Legal tender in England I am led to believe). I was told 'I am unable to accept cash' I shall be complaining to trading standards about this but in the mean time please don't shop here until they accept the currency of the land.

Our order has taken over 1 hour 45 minutes and still not arrived. Called them after an hour even though they have our contact details from the booking to be told there’s been an accident and will be with us in 25 minutes but still a no show and we have two little ones waiting to eat. Prices are a joke too considering we are on site compared to other shops. Would not recommend at all.
