Super lovely team with great food and portions!

Great local wine bar and shop with fabulous atmosphere. The staff are welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable about wine.

The staff at Humble Grape KNOW their stuff, as complete novice it was so lovely to be guided to the wines that really matched what we were after. I had the most amazing time.

Went there with a friend for his birthday and the food was incredible as always, so was the wine. We were too full for dessert so didn’t order any, but ended up receiving a complimentary desert with ‘happy birthday’ written on it which was very sweet.

We came here after our wedding in islington town hall with our dog! Food was delicious and service was fantastic! Will definitely return!

The place looks lovely from the outside, the interior is also quite nice and the staff is friendly but the wine is unfortunately quite awful. I tried several glasses (up to £18 a glass), they were average at best. I'm fully aware of the place's theme and I tried the wine from not so popular regions and wineries while travelling but it never meant that the taste would be completely off.

Great location, we asked about a wine and we were instantly offered a tasting- food was nice, didn’t love the beef croquettes- lacked seasoning. Sunday night but still quite buzzy, felt we had to leave by 10 as everyone else had gone by then. Would definitely go back. The girl who served us was adorable.

During a recent visit to Humble Grape in Islington, my friends and I encountered a series of disappointments that have led me to write this review . The menu selection, particularly the wine list, was surprisingly limited for a place that prides itself on its vino variety. Service was mediocre at best. An example of this? We got served with coffee saucers instead of proper plates... However, the most distressing part of the evening came at the end. We used their app to split the bill and left a discretionary tip, which we felt was appropriate given the service we received. To our astonishment, the tip did not contribute towards the service charge, and because we did not pay the full 12.5%, the manager confronted us. The insistence on paying the full service charge, despite the subpar service, was not only uncomfortable but also quite outrageous. It's unfortunate when a dining experience is marred by such issues, and it's even more regrettable when management fails to handle the situation with grace and understanding. It goes without saying, we won't be returning.

A wide selection of refined wines, to pair with delicious gourmet dishes, make this place my favourite in London! Alex and Alessandro, along with a passionate and professional team always make my experiences go above and beyond my expectations. Yesterday Anne has been a real star! From the starters to the desserts everything has been impeccable and I really enjoyed having a chat regarding the wines and their producers. Absolutely delightful!

A significant place for a catch up/ date night, considerable food and portion sizes, outstanding customer service (shout out Jean, and the guy who was served the wine). Great customer service is everything it makes it even more special and worth every penny including service charge. Ps get custard back on the menu 😅😅

What a find! Was searching for somewhere last minute for a Sunday roast and stumbled upon the Humble Grape. Highly recommend it - I had the lamb alongside a great bottle of Malbec and it was fantastic! #SundayRoast

Came here for a Sunday roast and was spot on, we all really enjoyed it. Table of 4 all having roasts meant we got £35 off a bottle of wine, which went down a treat. Had the mixed roast which was £25, an absolute steal for the quality of it, the croquettes were amazing to start!

Coming to Humble Grape Islington is like coming back home for Christmas. The vibe in the neighbourhood is only enhance at this hidden gem in Angel. Comfort food like mum’s, knowledgeable and lovely staff and amazing wine selection from sustainable producers around the world. Can’t recommend enough.

Lovely wine bar with a great selection of cheeses and hams etc. Met up with some people I didn’t know that well and picking between all the wines helped break the ice. We tried lots of wines in a chilled atmosphere and had a fantastic time. Think it would be a good first date place.

I love this Humble grape. The food options were absolutely delicious and of course the wine was fantastic. Great recommendations and service from the waiters.

Really lovely service, very attentive servers and the wine recommendations were spot on and paired perfectly with the meal. A lovely time!

Ended up spending hours here as it was a buzzing vibe and the wine and food especially were delicious. Our host and the remaining staff were very knowledgeable, charming and attentive. A balanced and accommodating new menu; the financier dessert and short rib croquettes were a highlight for me. The sous chef was very cute as well. This place is definitely a spot to bring and impress your mates with!

The wine recommendation was very well suited to us as a pair. We notified the sommelier of our preferences and they provided us with four very nice options within our price range. The service was very good and the waiters/waitresses were very attentive. We will definitely be back!

Had a wonderful experience arranging and attending a wine tasting for a friend's hen do at the Humble Grape Islington branch. Everything was perfect, from the initial organising to the event itself. Communication was very quick and clear, even making adjustments for the needs of the group. The wine tasting was very interesting thanks to Alessandro's in depth knowledge, along with a great selection of wines! The food was delicious as well. Overall, could not have asked for a better experience - highly highly recommend!

Whenever I walk pass by I’d sit down for one or two drinks. Good selection for wine by glass, was even surprised by the performance of the Serbian wine. Food just about ok. Very good service team. A place to catch up before dinner in a nearby restaurant.

I took my rural aunt who was ahead of a performance at Sadlers Wells. We had a lovely tasty and sophisticated start to our evening. We chose to share some small plates. Everything was delicious but the pork belly dish was fabulous. Service was super as ever. It only takes 10 mins to walk to the theatre so totally recommend for a pre theatre meal.

Visited for a wine tasting masterclass. It was a lovely experience and look forward to visiting again. The hosts were fun and entertaining. And I learned about wines and wine growers.

Cosy and pleasant place. Love their Mondays. I can have great wine for less :D Recently staff changed and I think service is much better. Tomi our waitress was fun and full of joy. It was nice to see her happy engaging in the conversation with us. The new Italian manager is also nice. We enjoyed the selection of cheeses and meats. Wine recommendation was great too. I put one star less for atmosphere as the music choice for chilled Monday afternoon was a bit too much, I didn’t enjoy the mix of random pop, commercial songs. It was hard to relax or even to talk :p

Popped in for a cheeky wine (excellent South African recommendation from the chap who served me). Ended up having 2 glasses and some excellent food (Chilli Fried Chicken). Service was fantastic as well. Will definitely be back!!!

Absolutely without a doubt our favourite place to eat and drink. We try and come here once a week at least if possible. The staff are so knowledgeable about the wines without an ounce of pretentiousness. They are always so welcoming and friendly, with great wine and delicious food. A real credit needs to be given to the team as well as the company culture on a wider level. Also it’s dog friendly!

Will NEVER return! AVOID! Amateur wine spot. They target uninformed and desperate wine clients. Restaurant was empty and they forced us to sit at the (small) bar. Then asked us to move over a couple minutes later. Then when I tried to pay they refused to split the bill. The server dropped a box full of bottles on the ground. The restaurant was empty the whole time but they wouldn’t let us sit at a small table. Very rude staff. For the price- much better selection and service nearby! Please skip! I have my wine qualification and see no quality here! Fake and trying to be fancy!

Wonderful atmosphere and the food is delicious. Absolutely worth to try and a special thank you to the General Manager that look after us all night. Definitely be back soon!

Went to the 40 pound bottomless brunch, had the red, rosè and white wine. The first 2 were very sour and the white was decent. You have 3 small plates included in the brunch which are definitely not worth the money. The quality is acceptable but the portions are too small. The service was mediocre and too slow, managed to have 4 glasses of wine in 1h 30min despite numerous requests for top up. At the end of the service I still hadn't received my third dish and the waitress wouldn't believe me. Had to discuss for it and I received it at the end but it was very unpleasant. The decoration is nice and the chairs are comfortable, sadly the acoustic is very poor though so it was difficult to have a conversation with my friends. Will never go again.

Worth visiting if you’re in the area!

Starter had to be sent back as it wasn’t cooked, main arrived as we were still eating the starter and we were forced to move tables to accomodate the food. Nice food (except for the starter) but abysmal management. Having paid £85 per head I’m v.surprised the manager offered no real apology/gesture to remedy such a bad experience and poor communication on their part. Living locally I would’ve loved to have been able to come back with friends/family but sadly humble grape won’t be on the list.

Alessandro was great! He recommended a very good Italian wine for our aperitif, however As appetiser we choose a mix of charcuterie and cheese and for 2 small slices of cheese, 6 slices of prosciutto (2 bresaola, 2 Parma ham and 2 coppa), 2,5 slices of bread the cost we got charged for was £26, way above average even if it was New Year’s Eve, and unfortunately the coppa wasn’t fresh at all (which can be easily identify from its colour). We had a nice time but I would not recommend this place and I would not probably come back again.

Really great selection of wine! A shame you can no longer get furmint or Albarinio by the glass but its understandable! Food was really great quality despite the slightly longer waiting time! The guy working (I think his name was Alexander?) Did a fantastic job, he was obviously working with all new FoH and managed to control everything and give great service on a Saturday night.ill definitely return when they have some orange wine in stock!

A delightful wine bar tucked away just off the high street in Angel. The food was beyond delicious and even tho we had small plates they were incredibly filling. The wine list is almost endless so having a well educated waitress help us was really appreciated! Thanks so much for your welcoming and friendly prenasce Keisha 🙂 and we will be back!

What a fantastic night. First time visiting the restaurant and my friends and I had a lovely dinner. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with cheese and truffle croquettes which was one of the highlights of the night, accompanied by padrón peppers and a cheese and charcruterie board which was also delicious. As a main course we had cotê de boeuf with peppercorn sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, a succulent and testy experience. The peppercorn sauce was one of the best ones I had. On top of the great culinary, the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. We were served by Pierrick, a lovely French man that had a vast knowledge of wine and helped us pick the right wine to pair with our food choices and Célia, a super bubbly and friendly French girl. Overall great experience and we will definitely be coming back soon.

I’m a local and used to love this place so I’m sad to report that I had a shocking experience here this afternoon. Yes, my name is Karen and this is my complaint to the manager 💁🏻‍♀️ On arrival I asked if we could sit downstairs as had my two small children with me. This would of made everyone’s lives much easier but the front of house told us that everything downstairs was reserved. It turned out this was untrue as, after I noticed that downstairs wasn’t getting filled up and already had a small family group and couple other diners, her colleague confirmed that, in fact, the area shut at 6. We arrived before 4. He offered us to move but by this point we had a mountain of glasses and whatnot on our table and the kids were settled. It wasn’t the time but we felt lied to. The front of house basically chose not to accommodate or understand what might be nicer for a family with two small kids, as well as what would be best for her other diners that had to endure our hungry kids. We’ve brought our kids before, always been put downstairs and always had a great time (also arrived similar time in the past with no booking). So it started badly. We were all hungry and ordered bread thinking that would be fairly quick - it took ages to arrive (had to ask for it twice) and when it did with no butter or oil - unless you’re serving some oil based bread, butter or oil is kinda an important option. Let’s be real, I don’t know many people who enjoy dry bread unless they’re recovering from a bad stomach We then ordered the roast. Potatoes were an awful mush, the Yorkshire pudding was a flat piece of hard dough and the meat was rubbery and dry. Just terrible. To top it off, we had to get our own cutlery and our own napkins when our food arrived. Due to the time everything took, I basically left most of my meal as my kids were verging on meltdown, probably due to the fact that their parents were having such a bad time, so we had to leave. We didn’t pay service and were given money off our wine by the one waiter who understood our frustration but I had to review our experience (may as well live up to my name!)

Delicious food (we got the baked Camembert, halloumi, peppers, cauliflower, crumble and madeleines) and amazing natural wines (albeit quite pricey when buying by the glass). Excellent service by our French and Spanish waiters - didn’t catch your names but you were both fantastic thank you!

We came thinking this is a nice wine bar for a fine dinner. It wasn't. We ordered 3 starters and a steak as main course. We got the steak first, the 3 startes 2 minutes later. The bread came last. Mmm The steak was odd and we didn't eat more than one bite, no one asked why. The cured salmon was sweet with jam-like souce, not as written in the menu. We finished the evening disapoined, enjoying only the place's design and atmosphere.

The wine is lovely but service could definitely be better. We booked a wine tasting experience and paid in full in advance, and at the end of the experience they charged us almost 10 pounds for water, which they brought to the table without us asking for it, and which they never mentioned was not tap water and we would be charged for. After having paid so much already for the experience we felt a bit robbed to be honest.

Poor customer service. Got in at 10.45 pm on Saturday. The bar shuts at 12am. Got refused a drink for me and my gf. Initially we were told the bar was closed and when I challenged them saying the website clearly states the bar shuts at 12 am on saturday they said they actually ran out of everything . This happened while standing in front of the shelves stocked up with hundreds of bottles of wine and while people were enjoying drinks at their tables. Safe to say we weren't intossicated nor drunk nor unpolite. Now I don't care whatever actual reason they refused to serve us was but it is the poor/false excuse they use that is annoying and quite frankly insulting.

Had a great time at Tasting Tuesday with a knowledgeable sommelier and some great wines. Plus the sharing plates of food were excellent. Definitely recommend!

Hip, buzzing and friendly local wine bar. Perfect for the ‘in’ Islington set - and those lucky enough to hang with them. Perfect for a quick drink or two, a meal or a work event. Food menu great for sharing, beautifully presented, wine selection very diverse and interesting. Above all fabulous, friendly and knowledgable staff who genuinely want their customers to have a good time and return. None more so than the fabulous @Jordan. Highly recommended.

Very cute wine bar in Islington. The waiters are interested about the wine and are telling interesting facts. The deal to try 4 different wines is at £15 so quite interesting. There are also good food sides (cheese etc). The bar is not too noisy

We booked online for wine tasting with small plates. Upon arrival, our server Rashaun informed us that the information we received on our confirmation email was wrong, that no small plates were available and "I don't know why it's wrong, I didn't write the email". We decided to stay at humble grape despite this incident because I had always enjoyed the wine and food here, but upon receiving the bill, Rashaun had added and extra 20% worth of items that we had not ordered. When asking him to check the bill, his response was "just tell me what you want me to remove... I'm doing you a favour". After pointing out the items that we had not ordered or consumed and asking to remove the service charge, he told us to "leave when you're ready and don't come back". Happy to provide the initial email confirmation and photo of our bill to support our complaint. Seeing other customers having run into similar situations, I sincerely hope that humble grape can take adequate action to allow your locals to return and enjoy what used to be a lovely establishment.

Had a lovely Sunday night experience at the Humble Grape in Angel with a friendly host and great orange wine. Recommended!

I thought I might be being mean giving 2 stars as the staff did seem nice. However, it really was a bit of a service disaster. Ordered water when arrived and it didn’t come until asked again. Had booked a special wine/food tasting menu and the first waitress didn’t know what it was. 30 minutes after been seated before anything delivered. Food came in different order to that of the menu. Food came out before plates were cleared and then cutlery cleared but not replaced. The food of someone else’s table dropped off. The pairing was 3 small plates and 3 wines for £40. There was no more than 50ml wine in each glass and it didn’t pair well (a tannic medium/full bodied red with a crab and cucumber salad…) and overall I don’t think it was value for money. The food was quite nice but not that special. A shame as it seems to have a nice vibe and concept - the execution needs some polish from some stronger management direction/training.

This place is a hidden gem! The ultimate wine night experience in Islington with great recommendation (from Jordan who we believe was the manager) and tasty nibbles! Would definitely come back anytime and recommend to friends!

Had a lovely lunch at the HG Islington branch. We were served by the really friendly and helpful Jordan. Jordan’s recommendations on the wines that went with the cheeses and desserts we ordered were spot on! We ordered the Camembert, and some side bits, finished with the chocolate mousse. We took a table, they told us we had 35 minutes, which was ok. But they never came to take our order… very bad service and all we can say (as we couldn’t order anything) is that it is very expensive.
