Hugo's in Dumfries & Galloway

Fantastic visit to Hugos. Everything was perfect.......menu choices, food, drinks and cocktails, service, decor, ambience, furniture and furnishings, cleanliness. Highly recommended and we will definitely return. Just wish I lived closer!

Food is very overpriced for the quality of what you get. Ordered the sliders and the stale bun was just the beginning, the ingredients used were not those which were on the menu or what we ate! Many drinks not available and atmosphere utterly dead! Hard no!

We switched plans at the last minute and decided to meet in Moffat, I chose Hugo's somewhat randomly as a result, thinking that it looked like the tapas would accommodate our varying tastes. The restaurant was pleasant, clean, music not intrusive, nicely decorated, etc. Busy but not rammed. Super comfortable chairs and big tables. We ordered a sharing vegetarian plate and a sharing seafood plate. The portions were generous but, most importantly, the food was really delicious. The mozzarella and tomato tart was freshly cooked, the risotto totally delicious, great fish selection and delicious veggie treats. I should also mention that a food allergy was accommodated with ease. With drinks and coffee, it all came in about £25-30 a head. Have to say, we were all really pleased with our choice. Congrats to this restaurant!

Loved this place. ❤️ Friendly staff, tasty food and great atmosphere. One small downside was the temperature, We could feel a draught on our legs and it was quite chilly.

We stopped in to Hugo’s for lunch and had such great food. We hadn’t booked but were able to get a table despite it being busy. The three of us had the halloumi and chutney focaccia and it was so good! There was lots of halloumi on the sandwich (which is not common) in lots of other restaurants. We also shared some skinny fries which were nice too. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

Absolutely amazing for gluten free- a great find when passing through Moffat after a day of hiking. They had lots of GF items on their menu, clearly labelled. I have a few tapas dishes- hallumi and sweet chilli nachos, beef chorizo and chickpea stew, fries (from a dedicated gluten free fryer). And a lemon meringue pie with ice cream for desert. Superb knowledge about cross contamination and it’s such a lovely trendy spot with beautiful decor and friendly staff. Thanks again!

Our experience was not good... It seemed like a good place, because of the atmosphere and the look of the dishes, but the feeling was not satisfactory. They took a long time to arrive at the table, a salad ordered never arrived and neither did a drink included in the children's menu. The dishes and flavors of the "normal" food, without more. Some of the waiters treated us pleasantly, but others were somewhat dry, making it uncomfortable.

Popped in on the way up the road and was not disappointed.

The range of dishes on the menu board posted outside and the attractive seasonal window display tempted us to book a table for the following evening. The food was tapas style small plates. Great care was taken to check the dishes as being suitable gluten free options. Everything was beaitifully presented, delicious and obviously freshly prepared. BUT... Being aware of the seasonal high demand, we had agreed in advance to vacate our table by a specific time to accomodate others. We were reminded of this on 3 occassions by 2 members of staff. Then told this wasn't the case and we could keep the table for as long as we needed! On arriving, most tables were unoccupied but we had to wait for the table to be cleared, cleaned and set; no issue with that but a menu, drinks or wine list would have been appteciated. So the food scored highly and with some small tweeks the service could easily be made to match.

Delicious food and great service. Only negative thing was an overwhelming smell of disinfectant or cleaning fluid where we sat near the bar.

Lovely food and very nice people. Restaurant was stylish and comfortable. Large TV with football on, which nobody was watching, was slightly out of place but did not spoil the evening. Very pleasant evening.

Only a quick stop off for coffee and cake but the tapas menu looks fab and we will definitely return to try that 😋

Only intended on having a beer outside, which was good btw.Then we saw someone’s Tapas being served to a couple on the balcony. Decided to give it a go inside the restaurant as we love Tapas & we weren’t disappointed. Ordered 3 choices …Harissa lamb meatballs, haddock goujons & cooked goat’s cheese & beetroot plus a side of hand cut chips. Plenty for 2, each dish delicious. Liked it so much that we’re going again before our holiday is over! Proper genuinely friendly, helpful team run the restaurant, which adds to the dining experience. Definitely recommend 👍

Love Moffat. Hugos is fabulous. Each time i try a different dish and never disappointed. David the wonderful waiter suggested fish cakes in pea puree and i had home cur chips. Sorry no photos but it was piping hot and delicious and was eaten promptly. After a long journey from Harrogate towards Glasgow this is always the oerfect place. See you soon

Lovely friendly staff, we sat outside with our dog and we weren't sure we were trendy enough for such a glamorous place, but prices were reasonable and my son fancied a beer after hiking the Hart Fell horseshoe! Delicious olives. My elderly mum and I asked for a martini and lemonade and were served an incredible martini/gin cocktail - yum!

Absolutely loved this place and everything about it. Lovely decor, wonderful food and excellent service from the two young staff - their parents should be proud of them. We will definitely be back.

Went yesterday was served day old scones very hard not edible so sent them back. First impressions won't be back who sells day old scones ?

Went twice recently - super fast service - tapas all lovely - with good selection. Maybe a bit of background music in rear restaurant as lacked wee bit of atmosphere - but didn't put us off as we came back the next day.

Reserved a table for 4 people, visiting friends looking forward to a lovely afternoon meal, copious cocktails and a long awaited catch-up! Arrived, table was being wiped over, we were seated and given menus. We were about to order when we were told that ‘an earlier booking for 6 had reserved our table!’ and could we sit at the back near the vending machine & coffee machine (a notoriously poorly placed table that nobody likes being seated at). We were not willing to move, but the waitress stressed that the reservation was made earlier than ours and left us no option but to leave without eating, witnessed by other customers. All of us were absolutely disgusted. What kind of establishment allows such poor management of simple table bookings that results in such rude treatment of customers? They ought to be ashamed of how they treated us today. Appalling experience and we will never use, nor recommend, this place. Save yourself the humiliation and go elsewhere in Moffat. We walked straight into the Moffat House Hotel and was very impressed, they saved of the day!! Show less

We thought the restaurant was nicely decorated, we liked the idea it was tapas as myself and grandson are not 'big portion' eaters and it did vegetarian dishes. I chose arancini which, when it arrived was very spicy, a point not mentioned on the menu, so I could not eat them. No alternative was offered when we informed staff! My daughter chose a side of patatas bravas which, when they arrived, looked like left over, overcooked tiny pieces of chips, inedible. Again something pointed out to staff who said, oh dear... My grandson chose cookie dough for his sweet which, when he took a bite had bits of plastic in it. My daughter took it to the staff who found more pieces in the dough!! The result...we'll take the price of the sweet off your bill. Atmosphere nice but do not recommend the place, sorry!!

Didn't have food just a drink but the staff were really friendly and attentive. The surroundings were very nice. Would have liked to have eaten there but they were fully booked. The food we saw looked lovely. Would recommend booking!

Had a lovely family meal here whilst visiting Scotland. Enjoyed the food until my grandson discovered pieces of plastic in his cookie dough. We told the staff who examined the portion and found more pieces. They are to speak to the supplier.

Steak naanwich was superb service amazing

Stopped on our bike packing trip for lunch and service was very good. Space for bikes near outside seating. Price was good, would stop there again.

We were recommended by our b&b staying on the way to the Highlands for a holiday. I had forewarned them about my allergies but the smallish tapas menu looked to have many gluten free options. Tapas is my favourite food and a Scottish version is so interesting. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and furnished with the most amazingly comfortable huge chairs. The food was divine - everything was wonderful and really good value for the quality. The dishes are different and interesting. We tried 3 different glasses of red wine and they were all excellent - something you sadly don’t find often in restaurants. If I had been staying for another night I would have come back and eaten exactly the same dishes! We will definitely stay in this town again if coming to Scotland just to visit Hugo’s.

We always stop here on our journey to (& returning from) Edinburgh, it's a 'half-way stop' for us. We love it! The food is always fresh & delicious, lovely ambience & decor, very nice & helpful staff, spotlessly clean & very good menu choices, with something to suit all tastes & dietary needs. We just love Hugo's! ❤️

On our way to Dumfries and popped into Hugos for a breakfast 😋 roll and sausage and lemon drizzle cake along with tea and coffee. Lovely window seat in the sun . Staff are so friendly and next time in Moffat we will definitely return. Love the decor too. Thank you .

Lovely tapas selection, plenty of gluten free choices which were clearly marked on the menu.

Real classy place inside. We had coffee and scones outside in the sun and the scone was one of the best I've ever had, just the right texture crumbly but not too crumbly. The coffee was good too and the service was very good

We were on a long weekend in Moffat & fortunately for us ended up staying right next door to Hugos. The food was so good we had a lunch, dinner & breakfast there! The staff were great, so accommodating & great sense of humour 😉.. we did have to wait a whole for the food, but we were a large party, 13!, and everything tasted like it was cooked fresh. Delicious 😋. Wouldn't hesitate to go back, highly recommended.

I have written a full review about the wonderful service and food at Hugo’s before . This time I am writing on behalf of my two dogs Pudsey & Miss Sooty . Today I have visited Hugo’s twice . Once this morning for a coffee after a dog walk and then again this evening after their late afternoon walk for a cool refreshing pint of beer . At this moment in time we have been blessed with a mini heatwave with temperatures in the low to mid 20s. On both visits one the bar staffs main priority was to ensure in this heat that the dogs had a plentiful supply of cool water . I , unfortunately didn’t get the two young lads names that were on duty. ( one has dark short curly hair the other wears glasses) Despite not know their names they are a complete asset to the establishment. So polite, caring and forward thinking in their approach to customer ( and doggie) On both visits the customer service was outstanding

Delicious food and very reasonably priced. We really enjoyed arancini, asparagus, haddock, goats cheese and fries - all small plates but good sized portions. It’s popular so best to book.

All very good. Accommodated us without a booking. Pleasant ambience. Great staff. Coronation Chicken Paninis & Cappuccino afterwards all very good. A good stopping point when travelling up or down A74.

Absolutely great, GF options galore

My wife and I had dinner on a quiet Monday in April. The welcome was warm and kind. The service attentive and friendly. The food well presented and tasty. Big mention for the playlist. Awesome and entirely appropriate for the evening.

Very weak on vegan options; they offered a vegan "slider" which was just some roasted veg in a bun, and the only other option was soup. Nice staff though

The ceilidh was a delight 😊 Sadly we missed the food as it was BH but the menu looked really interesting (tapas). We had a coffee, a cocktail 🍸 and a couple of pints of local brew.

Popped in for coffee and cakes. Place really nice food looked good but we had dinner booked elsewhere. Staff really friendly. Loved the TVs displaying real fires made us feel cosy as it was throwing it down with rain.

Me and my boyfriend were out in this lovely town and were looking for somewhere to go to warm up and have some food we walked in and they greeted us straight away and everyone here is so polite and helpful and all so cheery it also looks lovely and makes you feel very comfortable it’s a gorgeous place

Brilliant food and lovely place

Had brunch with friends, we all fancied pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, we were quite hungry and wondered if it was possible to add a poached egg, it was and cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back.

We stopped in Moffat for lunch on our way home from Edinburgh to Berkshire. I'm so glad we did! It was so lovely. We couldn't fault the decor, the staff, the food. We had haggis balls, chips and fish chowder all on nice hot plates....

Table arrangement poor too many teenager high chairs and tables, service slow but never the less quite goo Tapas seems to be on the menu but their notion of real tapas leaves a lot to be desired and unlike real tapas, needs working on I think as I have always eaten tapas.

Fantastic brunch at Hugo's great service and price

Terrible service and poorly managed. Staff had no idea of customer service. Would not recommend....Annandale Hotel is better bet.
