The lunch menu is great. Theres classics and theres foods that I had never tried before. The spanakopita salad was absolutely amazing and the mozzarella bites were our favorite.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Hugh’s. I didn’t find it cramped, staff were lovely and we were given plenty of time to eat our food before the table was due back. We had 3 different breakfast stacks which were well priced at £8.75 although one was smothered in a tarragon hollandaise sauce which was too strongly flavoured. Will definitely be back.

The really frustrating thing about this place is that the location is fab and the interior really nice. The food is good, no better but the service is really rotten. Huge waits for even a menu and then for food to arrive. Such a shame because I do like it. A lot. Still relatively new , so maybe it’ll get better.

Had a fantastic lunch here, highly recommended. Food great, especially the prawns that were so fresh, lovely ambience and spotlessly clean. Thanks for the friendly service. We will definitely be back soon.

Disappointed service was poor, messed up our order, overall not the best, wont be back, and had been using Galatos for many years and it was great.

This is second visit and probably won’t come back, took nearly an hour for food to come as printer wasn’t working or something, did offer another complimentary drink as had finished ours. Felt like staff couldn’t be bothered and also overheard the male staff member mocking a fellow customer. Sadly not a great experience for us.

As usual when asking for a table I feel a nuisance as no one can decide if I can have one of the empty tables. In the end I’m told I can have it forty mins. Previously even having booked a table the one they reserved was so close to the table next to it only one of us could access it. Sadly having looked forward to this new place opening I have only been greeted by indefferent staff and made to feel as if I was bothering them. This is a shame as food looks nice and decoration is lovely but no community feel.

What a fabulous lunch myself and two friends had at Hugh’s this week. We all had different things and all were great, then we finished with coffee and cake…. Was difficult to choose what cake as we wanted them all. Staff were friendly and competent, and everything was reasonably priced. Cant wait to go back with my husband to try the Dinner menu, as it looks impressive too.

Our first visit to Hugh's and Burnside itself. Waiting staff were really friendly from the off, we'd only popped in for coffee and cake, which were delicious, what a great selection of cakes. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, one elderly gentleman, was celebrating his birthday and staff bought over a small cake with a 21 candle in it. The staff and customers joined in singing 'Happy Birthday' which was a nice touch. We sat next to a really friendly customer, lunching on her own. We've only lived in Scotland for a year and can't fault how warm and welcoming the people have been. As she left, she'd quietly paid for two bottles of Irn Bru for us, as we'd told her we'd not tasted it before. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste and staff were interested to know our thoughts. We'll definitely be back for food next time.

Witnessed a female waitress and the owner be rude to several elderly customers, clearly wanting them to leave to make room for other customers! Haven spoken about this locally it appears other people have also heard likewise. Go somewhere else! Rude and will not last long if this is how thyley treat local customers.

Despite it being relatively small footprint the 3 of us were not particularly aware of the table close to us. Atmosphere was great and the service was great. Not an extensive menu however the food was excellent ! The Haggis Wellington as a starter was exceptional. Had heard locally that the wine was expensive but as well as a good quality wine list there were reasonably priced options of good quality (£28 for a lovely white wine). Would go back in a heart beat and great to have a fabulous quality Bistro within walking distance. Well done Hugh’s for a lovely evening in beautiful surroundings! See you again real soon !

Very busy and noisy with seating for 24 crammed in to a small space. It was hard to hear my lunch companion .The service was perfunctory, efficient but not personable. The restaurant was full even on a Monday lunchtime .I had booked in advance and had called the day before to confirm but the staff were unable to find my booking but we were seated immediately nevertheless. I desperately wanted the food to be excellent but it was decidedly average. My mum had the fish and chips. The batter was overthick and hard ,there was no tartare sauce, garlic mayo was substituted, however the chips were good - crispy and tasty. I had the chorizo and prawn starter which was almost soup like in too much garlic and butter sauce- less would have been more in this case. The best part of the meal was the goats cheese bruschetta topped with red onion relish ; it was beautifully presented, however the bread was under toasted and soft. There is a daily delivery of fresh cakes. My mum enjoyed her lemon meringue.I had ice cream in deference to the restaurants previous life as the Locarno Cafe. I'm sure I'll return in the hope that the little glitches are resolved.

Our food was lovely however we had booked for brunch and one of us had the substantial steak and eggs dish. However, when we ordered coffees an hour later, we were told that our time was up and the table required for next booking. I hardly think an hour suffices for a brunch in terms of a comfortable eating experience. The person in charge came and apologised since this information had not been communicated to us when we booked. He also comped our coffees. Nothing to complain about so far. However, he then became defensive and nasty when we queried the 1 hour policy. His whole attitude was horrible and a lesson in how NOT to do customer service. We won’t be back needless to say, and will be advising friends not to go. Plenty of other establishments where the food is nice and so are the staff!

Food and coffee were fine. What was disappointing was my friend and I had booked a table for a relaxed lunch to catch up as hadn't seen each other for a while. Unfortunately after an hour we were asked to leave as a couple were waiting for a table. If they only allow customers an hour this should be highlighted when booking and staff should inform customers they need the table back after an hour! We will definitely be going elsewhere for our next lunchtime catch up.

Took my parents to Hugh’s for breakfast at the weekend as it was my old mans birthday. Place is very nicely designed and decorated. Staff greeted us nicely and no time wasted in getting our table, food service was quick and the chosen options were delicious, mums poached eggs were hard however replaced within a couple of minutes. Coffee was also very good, will be back for sure!

Bang average food way overpriced for what it is, its clear they've spent a lot of money on the refurbishment but the value for money to the customer just is not there.

Where to start?? This place was incredible!!! From the amazing staff to the incredible food. Start to finish an amazing experience. Connor the manager was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable offering a clear insight into what they offer, a credit to the restaurant! I had probably the best stormoway black pudding and poached eggs I’ve ever tried followed by steak and cheese panini, again simply perfect. It would be hard to find a better place in Glasgow for brunch!

Can't say how lovely it is to have a restaurant of this quality in Burnside. Food is excellent, brunch, lunch, gorgeous cakes, and quality coffee. Staff are helpful, informed and gonout of their way to make sure you have whatever you need. I've been a few times and can't fault them. Right now they're trying out evenings to see how it goes, I'm hoping it goes really well so they keep doing it!
