Houstons Bar and Grill in North Lanarkshire

Did have an issue with my fish and chips, chips very dark and greasy, but was rectified fast and food was delicious.

Food was excellent as was the service. They could control the temperature better and try and ask the table if everything is fine a lot less, hence only 4 stars

What a place this is. Me and 2 mates was up for transmt festival and went for lunch here on the Saturday. Food was unreal and the steaks up there with the best we’ve ever had. The girl who served was very friendly and helpful that much so that we tipped on top of the service charge. If I’m ever up this way again in Scotland will definitely be calling back in 👍

Lovely Sunday lunch Staff most attentive

Out if this world venue. Decor is so upmarket. Just off the motorway with easy access. Stunning design and set up with the piano in the background. Food was so flavourful. True value for money. The staff were the best. So accommodating so friendly So helpful

Brilliant place to go for casual dinners and special occasions... came here today with my partner for our 4 year anniversary. We dressed up and were provided fantastic service from arrival to leaving, every waiter was fantastic and extremely attentive while keeping interactions short and sweet which is massively appreciated when out for a special occasion with someone you love... the food was delicious and the menus is diverse enough that everyone can enjoy something... the interior was lovely and fireplaces were shown on the TVs which gave added to the comforting atmosphere... I would highly recommend for any occasion and we will certainly not be strangers. A big thank you to all the staff for making our anniversary feel special

Had an absolutely delicious meal - the prawn tagliatelle was unreal. Can’t recommend this bar and grill more!

Stopped into this restaurant as we were staying at the Ibis, and was hugely impressed. The premises are absolutely spotless top to bottom (bathroom check included!) and remarkably well presented. Started with a lovely greeting at the door, then shown to our table which was pleasantly spaced from other tables. We ordered starters, then steak pie and fish, both of which were very reasonably priced and cooked wonderfully. The fish batter was so incredibly light and clearly cooked in super clean oil, and the fish itself was succulent and perfectly cooked. Similar with the steak pie, with perfect pastry and amazing meat. My only observation was that seasoning was a bit lacking, but I don't mind that; it's much easier to season your own food to your taste than compete with a chef who no longer tastes pepper or spice! Our lovely Italian waiter was also super friendly and happy to have a short chat, and all staff were polite and well presented throughout. Overall a stunning restaurant and a very pleasant experience. I would highly recommend stopping here whenever you can.....but advise booking ahead. Thanks for a great dinner Tom.

Great food in a nice place with good staff, what more do you need.

eventful first visit to Houstons and sadly not sure I'll be back. Absolutely delicious food, lovely friendly staff, great service and a lovely vibe. THEN the owner, an elderly man named Tom, made a condescending comment which had me fuming. Totally ruined my afternoon. Lovely manageress Margaret spoke to me and was lovely. Feel sorry for her building up this business for a nasty old owner. He really needs to stay off the floor. I have given 4 stars due to the lovely staff, but minus one star for the owner! As an aside, 2 things I personally don't agree with are service change and £10 a head deposit to book.

Beautiful food and atmosphere I will be back

Have been to Houstons several times for lunch and each time the food and service has been excellent. Always been quiet when I have been there, usually a Wednesday, therefore lost a star for atmosphere.

Good was tasty but service was slow. Loved the live piano player.

First time visit. The aesthetics are lovely, the staff were very competent, very attentive and pleasant. Food was good though it is a bit on the pricey side. Good place to to for a special evening.

The staff were friendly and polite. And the service was good . I got the fish and chips ..although it was listed as haddock i think this one identified as a gold fish as it was really small !!! My partner ordered gluten free mac and cheese it was really bland no taste to it whatsoever and was a waste of money . I informed the staff and they apologised and said they would remove the cost from the bill But when the bill arrived it was still on there So we just paid it and left .. Don't think we will be going back any time soon

First time dining here and will definitely be going back multiple times. The food was incredible, service perfect and such lovely decor and atmosphere. Can recommend garlic mushrooms, the fillet steak and the sticky toffee pudding. The chips that come with the steak were the best I've ever tasted! The only tiny thing would be the prawn cocktail barely came with enough sauce to coat every prawn but not a big enough issue to mark them down. Overall Fantastic!

That it was a weekday lunchtime we visited and very quiet could explain why the service was good whilst the food (burger & fries for me, fish & fat chips for herself) was disappointing. The culinary high point was the acceptable fish (4/5) with the heavy, overcooked burger and the soggy fat chips competing for the low (1/5). Such a shame.

Food is outstanding so tasty and well presented. Beautiful atmosphere and staff are wonderful so helpful and friendly. Great prices too.

Had an amazing birthday dinner 28th March 2024. Food outstanding. Excellent service..particularly young girl who looked after our table (wish i got her name). Steak with hand cut chips was delicious. 4 happy customers. Restaurant was quiet..dont get why its not busier...Best Restaurant in Cumbernauld & surrounding.

Presently surprised. Always looked over to it to and from work,thought we'd give it a go......Thoroughly enjoyed it,the food was superb. We picked a Thursday night,got a table no problem. Each course was delicious, the steaks cooked perfectly ( well done chef).the wine( Altopiano ) compliment them. Will be back . Thank you to the two girls that served us.

Attended for an impromptu lunch. Arrived and seating was ample with a beautiful live piano playing. We were very well accommodated and taken care of by the staff. We had our twin toddlers with us and the staff were very attentive and caring. Great food, great service.

The meal was absolutely beautiful, but £33 for a bottle of wine. I was shocked (an under statement) when I got the drinks bill. Wow!!! £15 for the same bottle online.

The food was outstanding but the only thing to overshadow this was the amazing service staff Violet and Kennedy they waited on our party of 6 people with a huge amount patience and topped off with a smile and giggle. I would highly recommend this little gem if on the long road. I would say I’d visit again but no idea when I would be by this road again. Thank you all very much Mr Peter Holman

We visited on 30th December, foos absolutely delicious. Service excellent. Very comfortable restaurant. A lovely experience . We both had prawn cocktail and then fillet steaks . Cooked perfectly. A great treat .

Wasnt told when booking a table it would be the set Christmas menu only but they did make something off the menu to make up for this

Just had a lovely meal at Houstons. We were a walk in on the Friday before Christmas but were accommodated no problem and staff couldn't have been friendlier. Really nice atmosphere and food was excellent! Thank you!

Gorgeous interior, lovely food that was worth the wait. Accessible for everyone. The staff were very courteous and friendly - overall, its a little pricey but well worth it for a good meal (and the cocktails are pretty tasty too x)

Deeply disappointed, been here a few times and it’s always been lovely went tonight now wishing I had stayed in ! Firstly they sat us at a table next to a 60th party noise was bad, but it’s a party so I can accept that but directly above me was a speaker with music so I literally couldn’t hear a thing . Plus table was shaky asked 2 different people for something to balance table , eventually we rolled our napkin up jammed it underneath the table, again not the end of the world starters came and they were fine then main course came I had salmon , salmon was burnt I’ve never had salmon where the skin was like crackling before , whole new experience this came with Gnochi which was like rubber my dish was awful ! I spoke to someone who said they would speak to the manager I didn’t ask for another dish as my partner had started their food . I assumed the meal would be taken off the bill but no they took our drinks off which were soft drinks 1 can each and 10% of the bill . Now I believe meal should have been taken off and then the good will gesture . I was so unimpressed with the whole thing I didn’t even argue the point . Not the best ….

Wow such a hidden gem. The food was spot on. I had the steak pie which was highly recommended and I understand why. Gorgeous decor and although it was quiet it made up for it in personality.

Was pleasantly surprised. Had concerns based on previous restaurant names. Welcome was lovely. Very friendly. Service on a hole was great. I’m sure they forgot about us as took ages to clear our starter plates. My main was about 5 mins after my partners. I had to chase for it. Both courses for dinner were lovely. Will be back.

I feel really sad for this place as it looks like a lot of money has been spent on aesthetics, though it was not busy and had the feel of a restaurant attached to a hotel. Food was very average and luke warm. When asked for recommendation we were initially recommended chicken nuggets off the kids menu - wt......also when asking about a sauce the reply was "oh I have been told about this I should remember" while hovering, so we had to say could you please go and ask. Younger staff need training - meant to be a nice restaurant not McDonalds. More senior staff were lovely, engaging & helpful. Really wish & hope this restaurant will be successful, hope we just caught it at a bad time & it's busier normally, with much higher quality dishes. It's nice to have a great looking restaurant locally, but content needs far improved

Place looks amazing . Its was really quiet but when our food arrived it was luke warm . My lady got steak pie ..looked great I got burger.. half a plate!!! burger pink! Bad chips on top .. again luke warm . .the staff need trained. They were pleasant but their job is provision and service of food and beverege and they cant do it .

This was a first time visit and I absolutely adored it. We made an upfront reservation for 5 people and all 5 of us had a 3 course meal (starter, maind and desserrt). As you can see from the pictures everyone had a different meal. We all definitely enjoyed it. The Service was absolutely amazing and very helpful, if there were any questions from the fest. They were very organised as well and everyone was served their meal without waiting to much. I absolutely and highly cyan recommend that place :) and I hope that standard that they have, they'll keep it up that way. I can't wait to come back here, when I'm over for the next holiday again.

First visit to Houstons Bar and Grill, from the second we entered to leaving I can't praise the service we received highly enough, exceptionally friendly, helpful and nothing was a problem. The food arrived and we went for steak (fillet for my wife and rump steak for myself) I ain't a food snob so I will call it as I found it, steak cooked to perfection,the chips were a masterclass in what a chip should be, the peppercorn sauce complimented both beautifully along with the grilled mushroom and tomatoes. My darling wife finished off with the chocolate brownie desert which was given on the house as it was our wedding anniversary, she gave that a 20/10. I cant believe we havent eaten here before but I look forward to our many future meals at Houstons Bar and Grill, massive thank you again to our 3 fantastic hosts who made our 1st visit so special.

We have been here a few times with no complaints. Unfortunately our visit yesterday was not great. Starters came and only issue was my husband had to get up and ask for a spoon for his soup. Mains appeared after doom time. My husband had to again go find cutlery for me. No issues with my chicken but hubby had ordered steak pie. Very disappointed to find 5 small cubes of meat and lots of carrots. HE had stated when ordering his meal that he disliked veg so not to put any on his plate, no one mentioned it was cooked through the pie. He also found something that we can only describe as either a price of frayed rope or some kind of twig. It was the same colour as the pastry. We did tell the waitress about both issues, she said she would let her manager know. We then went to pay and we’re asked if we had enjoyed so we explained again what we had found. Woman taking payment apologised stating steak pie was there best seller. Great if you like veg. And that’s was it we left. Such a shame when you return somewhere that you have enjoyed previously only to be so disappointed. .

What a wondrous hidden gem this be! Being a herbivorous soul and with scant items upon yon menu, yet did I revel in the repast amidst this delightful milieu. The in-house lager, aye, it doth leave one in awe!

We booked houstons for tonight for my birthday meal the 4 of us, we where the only ones in the restaurant but the food was outstanding along with the customer service 👌 absolute perfection on both accounts. Will be making this our regular place to eat out from now on. Can't wait to go back 😀 Thanks guys Caroline x

We were very unfortunate I think with our food. The food we had was nice but had to send steaks back. Waiting staff did excellent job in trying to rectify. And took cost off final bill. No creme brulee left at 8pm. Very noisy - was busy, but think it was the acoustics. Overall, we left feeling a bit disappointed.

I visited Houstons with friends in June 2023 for an evening meal. the venue is immaculate inside with an expansive main room and private dining area. The venue was bustling and had a great atmosphere. The food and drinks were great as was the service. I would highly recommend you give Houstons a visit. 10/10.

Was ok... Took my dad here for father's day with my brother. Service was pretty slow, they did apologize and give us a 10% discount, however just felt the food was average at best, the service were polite enough, it was just that we got there at half 6 and didn't receive our mains till after half 7, they dealt with it fine just wasn't left overly impressed in all honesty

Went to Houstons for the first time today. Service was excellent at the start but quickly dropped to the usual “you have your mains, I couldn’t care less anymore” attitude. I was assured this wasn’t the restaurant’s intention so perhaps some further training is required. The food was delicious although portion sizes were rather haphazard and did not correlate with the somewhat high prices. An enormous Sunday roast vs. a smear of neeps with the haggis. Kids portions were giant for £8 so no complaints there, but perhaps giving a “full to the brim” tall glass of apple juice to a 3 year old was asking for trouble and only led to a stressful family dining experience. Just a bit more thought required here. I will return in a few months to see if any feedback has been taken on board.

First time at Houstons and have to say we really enjoyed it, the tables are not as packed in as the previous management had so it's a relaxing experience. The service was top notch and the food was lovely both to look at and taste, plus it was great value. We just had lunch but even that was beautifully done. Will be returning soon for dinner.

I’m sorry to say but we won’t be back. We attended 20/5/23 for dinner. Our problem arose just after the large group of customers celebrating a birthday left. Once they left this left the restaurant reasonably quiet. We decided we wanted to order a dessert. What a waste of time that was. After 15 mins of waiting to get a menu, and another 20 mins waiting to be served, we gave up. I literally had to leave my seat to ask for the bill. Why? All because some of your waiting staff had gathered over to the bar area to have a chitchat with each other, while the younger staff were cleaning up after the party that had just left. This left customers waiting. On three occasions we tried to get the attention of the waiter with white hair and glasses only to be blanked. Talk about selective hearing. How many other customers have left feeling disappointed after being treated this way. Shame on you Houston’s. P.S Don’t dare excuse your staff in anyway for taking their eye off the ball and maybe invest in a head waiter who can direct staff to customers. Food was excellent by the way and your chefs are to be appreciated.

Small portions but really tasty food.

So, myself and my husband popped in here to have a meal one Friday night. I hadn’t been since it had changed from Milanos. Beautiful ambiance, sumptuous and inviting. Cocktails: one of the best French martinis I’ve ever had! Food was tremendous, fresh, beautifully placed. We had the mussels, mushroom ciabatta, then we both opted for fish, chips with fresh grilled lemon, minty peas and tartare sauce! The fish was in some sort of crumbly wrapping and fell apart! Perfectly cooked! We had a beautiful bottle of Pinot Noir from Romania for a change, more cocktails, then desert! Which was sticky toffee pudding, and apple and cherry crumble with custard! Delish!!!!!! We then got comp Limoncello at the end of the meal! All in all we will be back, Francesco, the lady with the glasses and the two waitresses were so lovely and attentive. They didn’t rush us, and everything came out when it should! Highly recommend and will be back! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed! Lorna x

Best mussels I've had for a long time. The menu isn't extensive but it's adequate. Prices a little on the high side (sign of the times) We had a pleasant visit and the staff were charming. Happy to recommend.

Was in today for a 1.30pm Booking, quite busy at time but service was quick and efficient, the manners of all staff was top class, food was super high standard, the Chicken escalopes with Aaran Cream Sauce was one of the best dishes I've had in years, the girl serving was pleasant and the italian guy, dining experience was welcoming and of high standard, I can't wait to come back.

I came here with my wife and we were both very impressed. The staff are friendly and professional. We both thought the food was exceptional, as was the coffee. We thought price was very reasonable given high quality. The background music was nice and not too loud. The tables are well spaced out and comfortable. Grounds are clean and attractive, with ample parking. I really wish we had tried this place earlier. We will definitely be back.
