Lovely local pub that is really well presented. It's all keg beers, Sam Smith's, and no real ales. CASH ONLY🙄

Not the best experience, all things considered. We got locked inside the hotel for 25 mins one morning, between two auto locking doors, for which our key card didn't work. We tried ringing the hotel to no avail. That aside, The rooms are quite small, but nice and cosy, everything works. The building is old and well kept. Breakfast finished at 9am so we never made it there, despite paying for it in advance.

I broke down on the A1 with my wife and two children late at night. We weren't able to be recovered so had to get in somewhere to overnight. I rang several hotels with no luck, but managed to get through to the Hop Pole and they fortunately had a family room (with a cot) available. I can't thank them enough for turning a pretty disastrous night into a really pleasant stay. It's a beautiful old building with period features as well as mod-cons. The rooms are spotless, cosy and quiet. There's free parking outside and across the road. The shower had great pressure and everything you'd expect in the bathroom was provided. The next morning our cooked breakfast was spot on, and there was also a good selection of cereals. I had to hang around all day for the recovery vehicle and the landlady was so generous, offering me cups of tea whilst insisting I was no trouble, allowing me to work in a quiet room as I waited. Top notch all over, I would 100% recommend to others and it was very reasonably priced. Thanks to the team at the Hop Pole it was a positive experience and I would definitely stay again.

First time I ordered a takeaway and my order was not accepted and declined as informed by Just Eat. Ordered well before 4pm but took until gone 6pm for them to decline.

Went to this restaurant a year ago and had an amazing meal, couldn't fault, so when me and four friends wanted to get together for a pre birthday meal, we all agreed on the Lion. Unfortunately not sure what has happened but my food was awful, the chips were oven chips that hadn't been cooked properly and were cold, the pulled pork and vegetables were lukewarm at best, the molten pepper jack sauce was so cold it had a skin on, not sure what happened to the aioli and the crispy onions, didn't seem to have any. I then had to sticky toffee pudding which was dry and rubbery, the only good thing was the toffee sauce, not impressed for £37.00. Also the restaurant was very cold.
