Hong Kong Take Away in East Riding of Yorkshire

I was a kid when this take away opened in 1969 and the food from day one has always been first class. My wife is Asian and very particular about her food and is bowled over by the quality of the food that Hong Kong take away serve.

I never ordered from that place before so I thought to try it. Not the greatest service as the man there was too busy talking to his friends than servicing the customers. Didn't bother too much as I went there for food not socialising. I ordered a prawn chow mein. The Pro: The portion was massive justifying the price. The con: The worst I ever had. Everything apart the noodles (which were way to salty) was undercooked and had a really funny smell making me nearly sick. It ended straight in the bin. Needless to say never going to order from there again.

The staff are very friendly and polite, food was very good with little complaint, chicken balls were enormous. Did not need to wait very long before it was served, reasonable prices too.

Tried to order a delivery and the Man on the phone was horrible to me. I asked if they could do a dish that was not on the menu and the man said no which was fine. I asked if he could give me a minute to find out what else I could order and he hung up the phone. If this is how he treats customers i cannot imagine how poor the food would be. Pleased we did not order

Ordered family meal, some food was nice, some was inedible, not because it wasn’t good, but too spicy, I used to work for a Chinese and have never known sweet and sour sauce to have chilli in or be hot spicy, me particaly are allergic to chilli, but my family are partial to some spice, but everything was far to spicy to be eat unless you have a thrill for spicy food. Personally I was lucky that I didn’t try the sweet and sour sauce as I am fussy but my family told me it was very spicy and they couldn’t eat it. We got a curry for the kids to have with some rice, as this is what they have back home, but this was too spicy, and my partner only just managed to eat it but said it was hot. If it hadn’t of been for the spiciness of a lot of the food, would of been perfect.

Quick delivery and the food was hot and very tasty. Will get my food from Hong Kong again. Thank you.

Excellent curry and rice Best chinese food! No problem in ordering, not a long wait for the order to be ready

This place is consistently good, the tastiest Chinese takeaway I have ever had anywhere in the country. We always go to Hong Kong in With'. Nothing worse than a disappointing Chinese is there? He does the best special fried rice. Everything is good, decent portions, we demolish the lot. I find the negative comments below rather amusing, the guy is funny. Maybe you prefer bland pretence with your order. This is Yorkshire, we say what we like and we like what we bloody well say.

Had a couple of curry's from Hong Kong before, first time it was nice, second time gave us gravy instead, then third and last ever time, we asked for 2 normal curry's and one extra spicy, he did all 3 very hot, the man is always very rude, so definitely won't be going there whdn next in withernsea.

The most disgusting Chinese I have ever tasted. All tasted the same, like tomato ketchup. Filled up on the rice as that was the most edible bit. Man was so rude on the phone. Asked how long….” Ready when I have cooked it” don’t bother!

Just eaten a takeaway from here and it was perfectly adequate. Large portion size, due to having either rice or chips with the majority of the meals. Down South we don't do that! It wasn't the best I've ever tasted and we felt bad wasting the rice, but we were hungry and it was late. Very cheap too. Guy was a bit abrasive but not really rude.. If I lived here I would probably go again but be more selective about what I chose...

How this man is still in business I will never know!! Absolutely rude and disgusting on the phone, didn’t even place an order in the end as didn’t want to give him our money. Needs to learn how to talk to his customers. Horrible man.

The food from here was inedible. Mushy noodles...raw chicken. All bland and just the worse takeaway we have ever had! Can't say I've ever been served a chow mein in a polystyrene chip carton before. The crispy beef on the starter was vile....as was all the food. Phoned and complained...offered full refund (had to take the food back). I found the man rude and unapologetic, when I tried to explain what was wrong with the meal, he wasn't interested and just said...."well other people like it, just take your money". Avoid this place

This is a great little chinese takeaway! The food was really tasty! My daughter is really picky about her sweet and sour chicken but really enjoyed it! A really nice little treat for our holiday!!!

Found it very hard to eat. Beef was more like spam it was rubbery and salty. And the chicken was stringy and weird. All the sauces were thick and gloopy I had raw onions and peppers in my sweet and sour. Fed it to the dog, would recommend going somewhere else because it’s possible the worse Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had.

I wouldn’t let my dogs eat the food from this takeaway. We are visiting the area and arrived late afternoon. After a few drinks in the pub nearby we thought the takeaway would be a nice treat. The food didn’t resemble beef or chicken and the sauce was tasteless and full of gelatine (crushed bone marrow and fat)! I would definitely not recommend this takeaway! In my opinion it should be closed down.

This is the best Chinese ever. The food is so good from here. Big portions. I had chicken satay and it was fantastic. If you are in Withernsea, give it a try you won't regret it.

Ordered a few meals and thought it was all good until i looked in the bag and saw two were missing even know we paid for them. We decided to call up as we buy from them every Friday and they were not helpful at all and were rude and hung up the phone.

They took £10 of our money and missed part of our order. We rang up to complain and the guy treat us like absolute trash. He started by saying we were his best customers but then when we asked what happened to the rest of our order he told us he didn’t care anymore and we weren’t welcome there before hanging up on us. Absolutely appalling. Would advise going to Chinese first instead, only just down the road.

When we got our order two of our meals were not there but we had still payed for them and ordered them. We rang them up and when we explained what had happened they insisted that we had not ordered it and that we didn't pay for it either. We told them that this wasn't true and they were VERY rude to us over the phone. We were told that we were their best customers and then told that they didn't care and not to bother coming back. They shouted at me down the phone and lost their best weekly customers (£30 every week) as a result of this, would most definitely NOT recommend this horrible place. I have never been so disrespected by a business owner, and i will not be going back. £10.80 down the drain!

I would seriously avoid this place i rang them up to order a plain chow mein to be told hurry up we are closing in 10 minutes this was at 9 40 pm when the closing time states on the door and online 11pm. the guy behind the counter was rude and obnoxious barring in mind i only live over the road i went straight across straight away only to get there and he was sat waiting for me with my food hot and ready in the 2minutes i got off the phone and went overonly to get home and find out that they had no flavour what so ever and tasted like rubber like they had shut the kitchen early and just microwaved these hot. disgraceful

We use the Hong Kong on a regular basis we ordered as usual i decided on something different and wish I hadn't the chicken inside the batter was stringy and very chewy i ended up with the runs and gut ache very dissapointed my wife also left her meal which was just tasteless and swimming in gloopy gravy we have been using this place for a few years now but no more

As a family we had 3 different dishes, all were delicious, tasty and colourful, quick delivery, really enjoyed it and will definitely order again.

Ordered for caravan park £1.30 delivery very reasonable chicken curry ribs (5 large ribs )chow mein sweet and sour was asked if curry I wanted chips or rice as with sweet and sour so got rice and chips all arrived in 30 minutes great service and a great takeaway large portions all for £22.50 a bargain quality food and enough for 2 nights

Phoned them to see if do delivery to a caravan at nearby Withernsea Sands...of course they did. Ordered, and it was delivered 1/2 later. Good sized portions, piping hot. Two meals was too much for two of us, so had some the following day. Definitely be using them again. Very reasonable prices too.

Sweet n sour is coloured viniger Batter balls were just that Very little chicken inside them if it was chicken. Only ate the chips

The food was a bit hit and miss. Some dishes were delicious whereas others we wouldn't get again. The rice was delicious, it came with lots of meat in it. The ribs were very fatty. We definitely wouldn't get the lemon chicken again, we tried it in a set meal and it wasn't that nice. The wontons were delicious as were the spring rolls. The chips and prawn crackers were average. The food portions were large and we couldn't manage all of it so still have two meals left that we will eat this evening. Overall this Chinese is worth going to if you are in Withernsea but some dishes aren't the best. It is better than the other Chinese in Withernsea though. If you are willing to travel a little further the Chinese in Keyingham is amazing.

We had a beef curry fried rice and chips the food was lovely the beef was good meat not chewy the man who served me was nice and had a great sense of humour highly recommended

Usually best Chinese about, awful tonight. Found a hair in my meal after they’d forgotten to pack several items including a main meal

Just moved to the area and saw that this was recommended.Phoned and told they were not busy and delivery would be pretty quick.After waiting nearly an hour we phoned to see where our order was to be told it was on its way.Total wait was nearly an hour and a half.Chicken was overcooked and mushrooms undercooked.The dog enjoyed it.Pity as we would have been regular customers.The delivery man could have done with a personality transplant as well!

Great good shauns sense of humor is legendary. You get loads of food in every meal. We travel from hull sometimes its that good.

We ordered over the phone and was told 40 mins for a delivery. The food arrived almost to the minute, very hot and very tasty. Price was extremely good and food quality was excellent. Probably one of the better takeaways I’ve had for a long time. Highly recommended

Food is good but the guy taking your order is a complete tool. Sarcastic and unhelpful. God help you if you want a delivery, if it's not loads of food he pretends he forgot to put the order in . Stopped ordering from here. Chinese first is better, food is delivered really quick too .

Visited as staying nearby with family . Really wanted a Chinese so popped in. Had a choice of meals all were very nice not bad prices. Not too long to wait . Actual shop looks a tad run down but meals were great worth a try

First time using this Chinese food takeaway (always stuck to the same one but not open on Wednesday apparently) - delivered in under an hour in the snow! Absolute quality, curry especially good, not the usual chicken, onion and insipid curry sauce you usually find in a Chinese curry! 5 star excellence

This remains a great place to order a chineses, the portions are huge, the price is excellent, and service prompt. We ordered late in the evening [ 10,15 ] and the food rocked up at 10`45, piping hot.

A really busy local takeaway food is always nice and always warm you get service with a smile and the spring onion fried rice provides a lovely change to the normal boring fried rice to accompany any meal

terrible duck in peaches duck was burnt so bad it was inedible the sauce was as thick as treacle,garlic crispy chicken in garlic sauce could not taste chicken galic so strong [and i like garlic] again sauce so thick could stand fork up in it ,sweet and sour pork pork burnt before being battered, tried one piece and gave rest to dogs , beef and mushroom wifes coment at least beef was tender. wont use again

I've been using this takeaway for the last 30 years and the food never falters, in fact the food is consistently good and never lets you down.The guy who serves in the shop is always helpful and will accommodate you if your item or variation is not listed on the menu.I usually pick our order up, but i have used the delivery service which is express and always delivered by a friendly chap !Many thanks to all the staff, great food and service to match.Highly Recommended !

This Chinese is special... in the 40 years plus it has been here standards have never dropped and you know whatever meal you order it will be as good as your previous visit.Shun runs a great take away and food is always cooked to perfection

What a surprise this place is. Lovely man served us and the food was blooming brilliant!! We both had special curries - there was so much we could have got one to share. As with Black Horse will definitely revisit.

Best Chinese take away i've ever had. I live in Hull now but still order from here whenever we are visiting family in Withernsea. Huge portions,propper chinese chips not frozen ones and the best prawn crackers ever. Always service with a smile!

My wife and I had a takeaway from this excuse for a restaurant, The servings were more than plentiful however it greatly lacked in quality. I had a special chow mein which was far from special. It was a whole greasy mass which finished in the bin. This experience was positively fighting for one of the worst in my lifetime of 66 years. Needless to say will not be visiting again.

Food is good here you get a lot for your money that is for sure and the guy behind the counter has a dry sense of humour which I like !

After a vote amongst friends we decided to order our New Years Eve meal from this Place.It certainly never spoilt again, the food was all excellent and delivery driver was a lot better too ! Had the food delivered and this was the second time we have had from here. There is plenty of food and the chow main has a lot of tasteOH had curry and it was ok but not the best we have had. The chicken was a little rubbery and the curry was a vibrant colour that I have never seen. Would not have that again. Would have the special fried rice and curry sauce again though

I have been going to this Chinese takeaway for years and Never have i witnessed anything so vile, i have never been one to complain about food but we asked for a tub of curry sauce, to then find bits of food floating in it, and we also ordered the chicken balls to find that the chicken inside was grey, utterly disappointed and disgusted, the food should at least make up for the shocking customer service

We returned to the Hong Kong after a absence of some years.The mixed grill is still as good as it was back in the day.Sean is still his jokey self even if he is looking older.

Having just returned home from another short break in Withernsea I have to let you all know of my 2nd visit to this Takeaway.We ordered the Crispy Duck, Sweet & Sour King prawn balls, Gravy Chips & rice, Prawn crackers.We picked the order up this time and the service was excellent. All the meals ordered were excellent and exceeded our expectations the Children also loved the food also with no complaints.It's a shame they don't deliver to West Yorkshire! Looking forward to our next visit during the August Bank Holiday :-)

We've been trying every Chinese takeaway in the area for the last year, and came to trying Hong Kong takeaway tonight despite reviews about the attitude of the place. The portion sizes were very small compared to so many others east of Hull we have visited especially the HK chicken balls, crispy duck and chips.My OH took the duck back to politely ask if it was a normal quarter, to have the man lash out "FORGET IT THEN!" handed him his money back despite still wanting the duck and walked off. My OH came back to tell me what had happened, and took the rest of the order back - we won't support a business who is so flat out rude to new customers simply querying their order! The guy behaved the same again, asking "what's wrong with the order now then" the second my OH went through the door. He then gave more attitude over giving the correct amount of money over.My OH is very diplomatic and doesn't resort to screaming matches like many would. He got his money back and left, despite the man repeatedly walked off to sulk and ignore him in the back room. There are a lot of reviews stating this place is run by a miserable, moody man and they're certainly not wrong! We have found our favourite Chinese in Withernsea, and it certainly isn't this place. Appalled!!

This is without doubt the best Chinese food I have ever eaten - Top Marks :-) Well worth a visit or get a delivery to your caravan like we did !

This is my favorite Chinese in Withernsea. It is good value for money and Shaun/Sean the owner who frequently takes the orders is a great and friendly chap. My only complaint is the waiting time... I recommend ordering your meal over the phone and heading over after 10-15 minutes if you hate waiting for long times.

You get a lot for your money, unfortunately they tend to put way too much salt in the food, however the staff are lovely and i suppose it comes down to personal taste

I think this take-away must have new owners or something because the food has improved tremendously. Excellent choice and beautifully cooked food. Would recommend.

We were on our holiday in Withernsea and decided to have a chinese takeaway one night. We saw Hong Kong and it looked like a dump outside, but we went in because it was the only chinese open on that day. We said hello to the man in there, and he just ignored us. He was very miserable when we ordered our food and didn't smile once. We then took our food home. The portions were very big, but the food was awful. My son had a kids meal and he was really ill the day after. Never go to this chinese!!!

Chippy chips with Chinese is just wrong,thats what we got,and by the time we had done the usual(spread the chips out then curry on top )it was too late and spolit the whole takeaway

Had a takeaway both excellent beef curry special chow mein and they rang a taxi for us . Brill will call again.

The take away was cold when we got it, despite being delivered from just up the road. Food was not very good either. Most of it was thrown away.

My family and I have just returned from holiday in Withernsea and decided on a takeaway for our last night and chose this place ad easy to find. Huge portions,best duck ever -not fatty! Kids loved it,which is always a winner in my eyes.

Great food and large portions are the specialty of this takeaway.The owner is a jolly kind of guy with a smile every visit.
