Hipswell Fish Saloon in Coventry

Anyone know of a chip shop that will deliver hot food? By the time our food arrived it was just about warm and the fish had dried up. The chips were ok but when a piece of fish costs over £9 you expect better.

This has always been one of my favourite chippies in Coventry, and they now offer a range of gluten free options, firmly securing my custom for some time to come

This place is absolutely lovely! Staff is the kindest people you will ever meet and the price is good! This is my top chippy to go to and everyone I know loves it! Chips are absolutely gorgeous as well! 😊💞

Ordered a grilled kebab salad. Tasted very bad. Quite good & fast service. But the food wasn't very tasty.

Ordered 1 kebab 1 fish 1 chips 1 large curry sauce and 1 large mushy peas for delivery. Delivery was in a reasonable time about 1/2 hour but food was rubbish for £33.50. Two tiny pieces of fish soggy chips hardly any salad in the kebab for £33.50 a disgrace. It all went in the bin.

There was items missing and orders mixed up really not happy and all the food was really cold , probably will not order again

My order was 1 hour late last night through Just eat and I requested a part refund due to the inconvenience. I have received this text this morning. For context I live a 6 minute drive or 30 minute walk The restaurant isn't going to give you any money back for your delayed order. They say: "We're really sorry your order wasn't delivered on time. The driver was stuck in heavy traffic, sorry."

Absolutely appalled.. not only was my order late, but extremely cold. I’m concerned that a simple request for no cucumber was ignored / overlooked . Good job I don’t have allergies!!!

Order came early which was good but, one bag of chips was missing and also the food was awful. You could tell the chips had sat around for hours and the kebab was actually the worst kebab I have ever had. None of us could finish the food and will not be ordering from here ever again.

Forgot to put this up a week back - Great fish & chip establishment, with fantastic staff members. Food always arrives fresh, timely and delivery driver is polite.

I try not to use Hipswell anymore because of the terrible food, but after my visit today, I'll never call again. Everything is going in the bin. The chips taste nasty and bitter, the sausage in soft cake like batter is just grease. All this for £5.80. It's the last money you'll ever get from me.

Normally nice chips. But on that day it's as though the chips had been in the warmer for 3 hours as they were rank.

Been at the hospital all day and needed to get something to eat, so tried hipswell highway chippy. It blew my mind how much I enjoyed it... Crispy battered scallops and the burger was the best I have tried in any chip shop. Well done to the staff for making my meal enjoyable, so much so that's all I've been thinking of since I went there. 👍

Pork and chips not alot of pork. Put "on" time because they did say it would take 1hr 20 mins. But it was nearly cold so I suspect it left an hour before delivery and he had multiple drops. Had to reheat chicken burger and chips and microwave the pork and chips. Very disappointed. Won't make this mistake again.

Had a donor kebab and chips donor was lovely but for a chippy I had more black chips than edible ones! Would not recommend this chip shop unless your really desperate.

It took over an hour to get my food

Wasn't sure the 1st time so thought we would try again. 2 pieces of cod and chips. The fish was so dry neither of us could eat it. Very very disappointed. Have to find a new chippy.

Absolute class lately. Cooked to order and fresh as can be. By far the best chip shop now in this area in terms of fish and chips. Can’t comment on the kebabs etc but yes, way better than mega and Charlie’s keep it coming

ordered a few meals one of which was a kids meal for £7.15 and all I received was a scoop of chips and 4 nuggets. ordered a bubblegum drink with the meal which wasn't given in my order. very disappointed

I ordered Fish & Chips from Hipswell Fish Saloon: 29th Feb 2024 and unfortunately, the quality of the food was far below expectations. To put it bluntly, this was the worst Fish & Chips I have ever purchased online. The fish batter was supposed to be light and crispy, as advertised, but it was evident that it had been double-dipped in batter, which is an outdated technique that did nothing to enhance the flavour or texture of the fish. Instead, it made the batter excessively heavy and greasy. Furthermore, the chips were shockingly subpar. They resembled the gnarly nails of an elderly person, and they were so unpleasantly tough and overcooked that they were virtually inedible. Considering the total cost of approximately £18.00 for this meal, I expected a far superior dining experience. Instead, I was forced to discard the entire meal due to its unpalatable nature. As a loyal customer of Just Eat, I believe it is crucial to bring such instances to your attention. I trust that you will take appropriate action to address this matter and ensure that future orders meet the expected standards of quality. I would appreciate a prompt response regarding this issue, including any steps that will be taken to rectify the situation or compensate for the unsatisfactory experience. Completely missed a full meal from the order. Mistakes happen, but when you try and ring the phone says unavailable. Rang over 40 times. Not good enough, won’t be using again

Brought a large portion of chips for £4.60. They were barely edible. My whole family of 6 tried it and no one ate them. Disappointing and waste of money.

Ordered a small chips with donner meat and salad with chilli sauce and cost me £12.70. On top of this the chips were soggy and the meat wasn’t very warm. Disappointing as usually have better food here.

Ordered a kebab and chips in a tray and scampi and chips. The chips here are always amazing, the curry sauce is on point, just like the curry sauce we got when we were kids. I say that because I think the taste has definitely changed over the years. There's always a queue but that's the sign of a good chippy. The kebab was tasty but not the best kebab meat I've ever had, could do with improving that.

Best chippy in Coventry by far. Food always fresh, delivered hot, not greasy either. Kebab meat are large portions, highly recommend pork & chips but for two to share. Keep up the good work Hipswell!!

I always have great food from you but you always get my can wrong I am diabetic therefore I ask for Coca Cola Zero but I am always delivered Coca Cola which I can’t drink full of sugar and is dangerous for me food is always great

I can't believe I've gone there again,I said the last two times,never again.We had fish,it was so dry and far too much batter,one side was about half an inch thick.The peas,you could have cut with a knife,and was a very dark green and certainly not hot enough. The time before,the pie I had,was also very very dry,the pastry was hard,the wife's fish was dry yet again. I was born in Hipswell highway,and have been going to the Hipswell fish saloon for 60 years,so it hurts to slag it off,but i'm sorry,it's not good.Everything seems to be over cooked.

Fish was smashed allover the chips. Used to delivered in a box. Grease everywhere. Sausage is batter was undercooked and cold.

The thickness of the fillet is big and not OK to eat. Consider optimising the thickness of fillets. £10.2 per cod with regular chips

Beautiful kebab and fresh salad nice to have shredded cabbage with a touch of lettuce much better. Chips are good as usual and delivery time was good

Excellent chippy. Despite going on a Friday tea time, there was no wait at all. All servers were happy and polite. Chips are lovely and a really generous large portion. Perfect for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. Really reasonably priced too. Even though it's a short drive, I chose to go here over my local which is walkable.

Me and my son have always liked chippy until we found out he couldn't eat gluten we found this chippy as a possible way around that but everytime my son has had the gluten free food he has been in agony and has been on the toilet for 4 hours as a time.

Although in theory it was on time, it took 50 minutes to travel a 10 minute journey. When it arrived it was tepid at best. As it was chips this was not good.The chip shop is good so I would recommend collection and don't have it delivered.

This has to be the best chip shop in coventry!! The food is always amazing and has good-sized portions and reasonably priced. Whenever I have been in it always looks very clean and the staff are all very friendly.

Although the food was lovely, I requested not to have certain items of salad, yet it arrived with it all in so had to remove what was not asked for. Other than that, really nice

Food was in the time period they gave us but… driver couldn’t stop apologising for the fact the food wrapping was soaking wet, not sure how that happened but we were starving so accepted the food. But it was all stone cold. It’s only a 2 minute drive from the chippy to our house! Assume they are combining deliveries?

I have ordered from Hipswell many times but unfortunately this time my food was cold. This hasn't been the case in the past it has been lovely but this time it was very disappointing especially being 45mins late. I was able to eat the roe removing the batter but the chips were too cold. First time I have been disappointed.

Visited this establishment after a while The fish was okay, just warm, but the chips were awful old oil, horrible aftertaste, not good cooked the chips in old oil… will not be visiting this place again, used to be a great Chippy
