Hilltop Fish Bar in Broxtowe

One of the worst takeaways I've had. Such a shame new owners have ruined this place. Chips dry and overcooked, Fish Cakes burnt on one side & the gravy was awful it was that thick it didn't come out the pot when tipped upside down. How does it leave the shop in that condition?

Food has massively gone down hill, doesn’t taste fresh and is extremely oily. Would not recommend this fish bar anymore like I once would have, such a shame!

Had a kebab, it was ok to be honest, if I could just say tho the meat was cold. ( it would seem the warmer they put it into isn’t working very well at all .

Great tasty food and great value for money every time. Beef and onion pie, chips, peas and gravy, 5 pound.

Really disappointed used to love this fish and chip bar until the last 2 times of going the fish not great and the chips are mushy undercooked and the taste has changed. Whats gone wrong 😕

!!Two engineer's ended up with food poisoning!! Me and my colleague both ordered small fish and chips one came from under heater and one made “fresh”. Both the fish and chips were extremely anaemic and tasteless. My colleague was poorly for a week and had taken a week off work. Friday 19th April 24.

Lovely food but just recently the food is being delivered warm not hot or even near hot even when putting a friendly note when ordering in the comments. Not sure if the extra comments are read?

The state of this burger is disgusting hardly any bread and a clump of cheese slapped on it…not what I asked for at all!! The chips I got are still frozen!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Food was OK, however I ordered doner meat and chips which was quite expensive anyway and as I wanted sauce separately, I even had to pay more! The box is came in was ridiculous and would not have filled a 5 year old child! Also not very friendly when you walk in, no acknowledgement or eye contact.

The food is great but my only concern is the fact that I asked for a kebab being the 2nd person in the line and being told its a half hour wait even though someone was chopping the kebab meat up. I feel this is a very negative thing as it would of took 3 mins to put some kebab meat on some chips so the service for a kebab is very poor service, never in my life have I been told to wait half hour for kebab.

Fast food redefined... Despite ordering ahead, waited half a hour in an empty shop ! Won't be going back... Well, as we were driving past - thought we'd give them a second try, but JEEZ , same story, 23 minutes to get our food IN AN EMPTY SHOP 😔 If delivery pays better then why have a shop front ? Waiting customers should take priority 😠

Excellent - top quality fish and chips.

We love HillTop for the softness of their chips but unfortunately won’t be visiting again. We ordered online to prevent waiting a hour in the shop. To have it delivered was a 2.5 hour wait so we decided to order online for collection which was a 45 minute wait, big difference. We ordered a larger donor kebab, 2 medium chips, a small chips and a kids meal of chips, peas and fish cake. Well the kebab was more a pitta bread full of cabbage very little meat in sight. The child’s meal always consisted of a small portion or chips in the small square box, a fish cake a peas. Well this time you we’re lucky if there were 10 chips, they had put the carton of peas in the box then put the chips in the box, there wasn’t even a handful as the fish cake was also inside. They have never served the child’s meal in this way all the time we have been here. For £4 this was a complete waste of money and not sufficient to feed a child of any age. It’s £1.10 for a small peas and £1.30 for a fish cake so I paid £1.60 for not even 10 chips. Yes prices have gone up but this is totally unacceptable.

I am not one for writing reviews especially on what is clearly a family run business. This is not for customers to stay away but this is for the owners and managers to listen and understand what us as customers expect. I parked up and went in saw 3/4 people waiting and 4/5 staff working, delivery driver in and out so they are clearly busy and deliver great food BUT although the lady was softly spoken and lovely I waited for around 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged I was there let alone ask me what I wanted. I had a look around and thought I will Just take what’s ready, basically during the 10 minute I was waiting to even order my food I was speaking to others waiting who were also frustrated at the length they had been there - so I went safe and orders a chips and a tray of diner meat… Placed the order (no apology for delay of waiting) and patiently waited for what I believed would be a quick turn around (chips were ready and meat was / is always ready) - 15/20 minute passed by and I asked the lady Can I just get my food as I need to get back and I have been in here for 30 mins? (I was not waiting for fish to fry or anything like that (maybe others were) but from wht I understand if my order can be made up why others are waiting for whatever they ordered then surely it’s best to get me in and out? But no they continued to prioritise delivery orders….) when I asked the gentleman at the back basically said he can wait! I asked for my money back and left and went over the road to olive tree and ordered a kebab box and was in and out in 5 minutes. Again not warning anyone away from this place as I didn’t get to taste the food but if your expecting a fast turn around and you hve a home to go to then either call ahead or order on-line. I also would like to be acknowledge when we walk in and maybe a just bear with me and i can take your order. If there is a delay please advise that the wait is going to be 30-40mins rather than me waiting that amount of time and then leaving empty handed. Prioritise those in your shop not those on the app. I do hope the owners take this on board and take this the right way as I really am not warning anyone away as I haven’t even tried the food - but waiting 30-40 min for kebab meat and chips is far from ideal.

Wouldn't go anywhere else for fish and chips. Pure white fish with lovely crispy batter and great chips.

Because we needed to eat earlier than usual, on this occasion, we visited and picked up our order ourselves. Usually we use the app, which we find very easy to use, and the time indicated for delivery is always on time.

Having to wait 20 mins for chips was unacceptable. Slightly annoying to hear the staff chatting to a waiting customer when they could have been serving me my food and taken the wait down to 18 mins. Food was good though. Portion a little small but very tasty.

The best chippy in the UK? Both chicken and doner kebabs are amazing. Very generous portions too. The mushy peas, gravy and curry sauce are all epic. Chips are perfect, a little bit crispy but not too much to be fatty. Great value too.

This place is only concerned with delivers, tried to walk in off the street at 20.00 for a kebab and was told the wait was an hour and the place was empty, if you want a takeaway don't bother

Well people have said good reviews on here but I can honestly say it is just ok if you want a quick fish and chip meal. I have had alot better from other chippies. The fish was all batter hardly any fish and the chips was awful and wasn't that hot Not good people so not come here again!

Disappointed with our order last night 2 nd May ordered early in the afternoon to avoid mistakes happening but when our order arrived late no chips did email you had no reply normally no problem ☹️☹️☹️

We ordered on their website last night at 6:00pm when it opened and we had three kebab trays with special requests to just have doner on each. We also ordered two boxes of extra chips. The order was quickly processed and we did pay extra for processing order online as well as delivery (to be expected with the coronavirus pandemic). The order stated it would be delivered in 110 minutes. This was bang on, it was delivered in 109 minutes. The food was top quality, it hasn't affected the food at all. It was fresh, warm and well presented. I am very pleased with the order and I would consider ordering in the future as they are coping excellent with what's going on. Well done guys, keep up the hard work.

The prices are good but the friendly family that run the shop make us happy to return for their delicious fish and chips regularly! Been here bare times thru the years and let me tell you lads. This sorta ting is a life saver after a long night of seshing. Not only that but takeaway tuesday with the boiis is also lit af with these banging dishes. Donner Kebab is always the priority here.

Best Chip Shop in the country. I travel the country on a boat and tried many different places on my travels and none match up to this family run business, they are 2nd to none and take great pride in their food and their hygiene. Well worth the visit and very reasonable on price. If I could give more stars I would. Great work guys keep up the good work.

I have surveyed six estebishments that serve fish & chips in the Eastwood/Giltbrook area and Hill-Top was not the best. It is the worst for queueing. the staff aren't overly-friendly, the price for your standard cod & chips is higher than some and the fish & chips do not taste as good as some of the other local establishments.If you don't mind queuing for 15 minutes on a Friday/Saturday evening in front of a load of old men who've been sent out by the Missus to 'get dinner in' then the Hill-Top chippery will do for you, but for me ? Naah. IMO there is indeed superior quality, friendlier & cheaper chippies local to the Eastwood area. Have fun doing the comparisons.. it's worth it.

We have been using this chip shop for nearly 10 years. The service and food is excellent!!!

Just visited Hilltop Fish Bar on a recommendation that the kebabs were the best and we wasn't disappointed. Both the donner and chicken meat is freshly cut off the skewer to order and not from them sweaty burko pots mostly used in other chippys. So tasty and this is now going to be our regular chip shop, well worth the drive from Bulwell.
