Food was amazing! Shame there was not the flexibility to have a sharing menu for 5 of our party of 6 but otherwise great.

PERFECTION. No notes. Incredible food incredible staff, incredible wine. My new favourite spot for sure.

We had an incredible first experience at Higher Ground. From start to finish, everything was spot on—the food, the service, and the atmosphere. My wife is gluten intolerant, and it was such a pleasure to see her fully enjoy the tasting menu without ever feeling like she was missing out. The team accommodated her seamlessly, which made the evening even more special. As for the food, every dish was absolutely delicious. The cod roe and beetroot dish was beautifully balanced, and the beef with potato and mustard leaves was a real standout. Honestly, every plate that came out was a joy to eat. Oh, and the rhubarb desert 😋 The service was equally impressive. Our server was fantastic—engaging, knowledgeable, and happy to talk us through everything. We also had a great chat and really hope he gets the chance to visit Macclesfield Forest and Tegg’s Nose as discussed. Watching the kitchen in action was also a highlight; you could really see the passion and care that goes into every dish. Higher Ground is doing something special, and we can't wait to return. Highly recommend!

Outstanding eatery in Manchester. The seasonal menu is excellent. Seated at the kitchen counter, it was great to see such a chilled kitchen which came through in the food. Many highlights but the beetroot and cod roe, the sunset potatoes and the rhubarb & custard dessert were tops. Great wines by the glass. Nice service. Really enjoyed this.

Amazing ambience and food. Good choice for vegan. I had the tasting menu and it was even better than my friends not vegan. Highly recommended. I had more food and really tasty

Edited review after going back twice. Our first time we were underwhelmed based on the reviews, but was told to give it another chance. I'm so glad we did. Been three times in total, first time I would have said was 3/5 overall, but the next two times were 5/5. Incredible food, wine and service. One of the best places to eat in Manchester.

Incredible meal! We were seated and helped out with the menu - effectively its small plates into mains with 2 sides at the bottom. The wine selection was extensive. It was recommended we had 9-12 plates so we ordered: Oysters (were meaty and delicious), bread, pea fritters, tartare, cheese tart, ragu, pollock and the caramelised onion mash. We were so full!! More than this would have finished us off - we had to take some home in a doggy bag. Total came to £160 which felt pretty reasonable. The mash was thee best thing I’ve eaten this year. So creamy and full of flavour! The pollock was so light and a nice end having had a lot of heavy flavours. Molly our server was just lovely - upbeat and friendly. The chefs bring your food to you which was also a lovely touch. Would highly recommend.

Excellent. Especially the Rhubarb and Custard. It was refreshing to have a meal and everything be as it should. Balanced and full of flavour. The service was particularly good, and felt genuine. I highly recommend people to go.

Booked a meal here for myself and my girlfriend, would definitely recommend sitting at the kitchen if there is just two of you. It gives you a great inside view of the kitchen working. The staff are great and friendly, they recommended some great natural wine pairings, the place has a nice atmosphere and the dishes we ordered were all delicious. It's worth the money if you're looking for a special occasion or just a nice evening out!

Visited twice in quick succession now and it’s quickly become my favourite spot in town. Expert service that feels effortless, but expert, amazing wine suggestions, and perfect food that leaves me planning my next visit before I finish the last bite. Love, love, love.

So disappointed came here for a 40th...paid for the taster menu... only had 1 main .. eaten at most places in manchester and food was dry, tasteless and overpriced... was £58 per person should have been 2 4 1... with a 20% discount would never eat here again.let down

Amazing food, went for sharer menu and very happy with portions and sizes. By end was thoroughly full and pleased. Some stand outs was Yorkshire Rhubarb dessert and also the Beetroot with smoked cod roe Negroni cocktail was amazing as well as organic orange wine. Great place and look forward to visiting again

I went to higher ground for a lunch with family. The food was out of this world and was modern British cuisine. Waiters and hostess working there were very cooperative and friendly. They attended us immediately as we went right on time we were booked. We tried the tasting menu which was was very surprising - Hostess told us that they won't tell us about the menu as that's there way of making you feel good about the food and have no anticipation whatsoever (no partiality either). This was surreal as I felt and gave my first reaction which was honest to the core as the different courses of food kept on coming. I totally recommend this place if you have a special day to celebrate or if you are looking for a peaceful lunch and evening with a loved one in cool and breezy sunshine of Manchester. :)

Higher Ground provides excellent food. It is one of the best meals we've had in a while. The pollock with smoked haddock and a mustard sauce was a delight. Service is professional and very pleasant. Unusual wine list too. Shame we don't live in the North West, otherwise we'd be regulars.

The place has a good vibe and the staff are friendly- the food options included a la carte or a 5 course tasting menu for £58- I would say that option is probably good value. We had oysters pea fritters trout a potato dish and a celeriac dish. Nicely presented but the flavours were transient- the trout could have been anything- didn’t taste of trout. Potatoes were boring- deserts were particularly average. The Macon village was delicious

Had a lovely meal here for my other half’s birthday. Counter seats, seasonal shared menu, and a bottle of wine. Food was delicious, really well cooked and great flavour. Wine was very nice and not a crazy price. Service was great, really friendly and personable. Atmosphere is great. Definitely recommend it.

servers are very conscientious in explaining the stories behind the dishes :) food portions are on the smaller end for the price - though offerings are unique, dishes are mediocre .. but try the honey ice cream it’s delicious !

We felt totally spoilt by the attentive staff and the absolutely brilliant food. We chose the set lunch tasting menu, because we couldn't choose from the normal menu. Would happily go again.

Amazing restaurant, food fantastic. We ordered the feasting/sharing menu, not sure what we would get but weren’t disappointed. Waitress asked if there was anything we didn’t eat, I don’t eat fish, so they gave me a veg alternative for one course, rest was meat and veg based. Tell them if veggie or pescatarian and they will aim to provide the sharing menu to suit. All courses were so tasty. The gnocchi dish was my favourite. This sharing menu changes regularly so we will be going back to try it all again. It isn’t cheap, but for us it was good quality food cooked to perfection. Thank you all staff.

First visit to Higher Ground- we were not disappointed. The Set menu was excellent and brilliant value, the beef and mash potato was exceptional. All the staff were outstanding with great knowledge of the food and drinks. The open kitchen means you can see everything that is going on. We will definitely be back

From the moment you walk in all members of the team are friendly and attentive. The culture of this place is superb. However the food and wine are very expensive but really nothing special. Small portions with very little flavour. Limited menu.

Staff here are lovely. Polite, attentive, knowledgeable. The food is ok. The menu is ok. The setting is ok. We came for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was ok. I wish we had chosen somewhere else for such a big occasion because I wanted a really special lunch for nearly £200. The food was ok, but at £20 for a small plate of pasta and £6 for two small bread rolls, it is not good value. Wine list is interesting but you really do need help with it. In fairness, they give it to you, and go to the extreme of giving tasters of house wine to try and help. Expensive though, you are looking at £50 a bottle for most. The food was ok, but not worth the price. The weird thing was that they asked on the booking form if we were there for a special occasion, so we told them. 20 years of marriage feels like a pretty big deal to us. But they mentioned it when we arrived, and then did nothing. Frankie and Benny embarass you with free cake and a song. Some places give you a glass of fizz. Higher Ground ask you when the actual day is and do nothing, even though we we're paying £182 for a lunch (5 small plates, 1 bottle wine,no dessert or coffee). Ok, fair enough. But why ask? If you are in the habit of £200 lunches then this will do you fine. If you want special, there are better places in (and way below) this price bracket

What an experience! We booked a place in nearby Alchemist. While entering it was so loud and we asked for a table "far from madding crowd". Luckily for us the Alchemist serves a food in the same huge space as serving a drinks in the pub. It was full with a people enjoying drinks. We couldn't hear our own thoughts how loud was everything so we apologised and left Alchemist. And, as it was meant to be, there was one, just one, empty table for 4 at The Higher Ground. What an experience this was. We are all EU gourmands and our experience was fantastic. From the front of the house person to explanation of the way and philosophy of the restaurant to food it self. Wine should not be forgotten. I am sure I will come again. Something to try for sure.

Best restaurant in Manchester, it has the Michelin experience with a reasonable price. I love the experience of dining out at Higher Ground. The food is always interesting and tastes incredible and the staff are amazingly friendly, welcoming and attentive. The best seats in the house are the bar seats as you can watch the master’s at work whilst getting ideas of which plate to fall in love with next. Great place for special occasions as they make you feel like a superstar.

We went for dinner last night. What a fantastic restaurant. The food was delicious without being too showy. We ended up having 8 courses. The most noticeable thing was how lovely the staff were. The kitchen is open so it was nice to see the team work seamlessly to create fabulous dishes. This is the first taster restaurant that I can safely say we will be back to eat again. Honestly couldn’t rate the staff or atmosphere any higher. Our advise is book it.

An amazing dinner for our wedding anniversary. Meg was so lovely and a credit to the venue. We made a mistake with our booking but they still managed to fit us in and we're so grateful. We had the best evening. The food was delicious and the vegetable dishes in particular were cooked with great care and skill. We will definitely be back!

Dined at Higher Ground recently, and I can’t recommend it enough. The food was simply outstanding—every dish was bursting with flavor and presented beautifully. You can tell the chefs take real pride in their craft, and it pays off in each bite. The staff were equally impressive, providing attentive service without ever hovering. It’s rare to find a place that strikes such a perfect balance between friendly and unobtrusive, but Higher Ground nails it. If you’re after a memorable dining experience, this is the place to be.

Incredible food. I'm so glad we went for the tasting menu it was over the moon we both absolutely loved it. It was a good birthday meal for my partner it being a late one but you guys made uo for ot for the fmatdtic service and food and all round kindness and enjoyment. Dan served me for most of the evening however (he was fantastic) but I was blown away by the fact everyone visited to speak with me in delivery of food as well as check backs. The food was sensational (I had the tasting menu) and the whole exodus was just wonderful. Thank you for having me, I’ll be back next time I’m in Manchester.

The atmosphere was laid back, the staff were all really friendly and helpful with recommendations and there was also an excellent wine list. Don’t let them choose your dishes, you’ll end up with majority veggie. Very small portions, lacking flavour, the ragu had about a teaspoon of meat in it. Overpriced, I’d give a swerve, there are much better places to eat in Manchester

I found it rather bland and overrated. We let the restaurant choose dishes for and were given mostly veggie dishes that didn’t pack much flavour. Overall we were very disappointed.

This restaurant is incredible, so much so that we went back after two days during our four-day stay! The food is simple but original, well-presented, perfectly cooked, and very tasty. Everything! We had the tasting menu, and the second time it was slightly different but still delicious. The service was fantastic, from the welcome to the table service: everyone seemed happy to see us, and the food was served very quickly. We finished all nine courses in just an hour! The open kitchen is spotless and very well organized: everyone seems to know exactly what to do and how to move without getting in each other’s way. The only thing that disappointed me was that, on our second visit, they took away a honey dessert I didn’t eat. Although I was full and didn’t want another dessert, when my husband mentioned to the manager that I don’t like honey, I would have expected some acknowledgment. Instead, nothing. She happily replied, “and this one has a lot of it!” but didn’t offer to bring anything else. It’s a shame, otherwise, I would have definitely given 5 stars. Still, I recommend it and would return.

Heard rave reviews about this place so gave it a go. Service and atmosphere good on a busy Saturday night. We opted for the a la carte/sharing plates. Flavours were good but overall came away feeling disappointed for the price. A single scallop and minimal beef in the Ragu. Turbot seemed barely cooked. Manchester tart was nice but ice cream with plum bland. I appreciate this style of cuisine is what it is and there are subtlety of flavours to be had but for the money it just has an air of pretence for my liking.

Here for a friend’s birthday meal. It was excellent from start to finish. The service we received was spot on, not too in your face and attentive at the right times. Great recommendation on the wine as well. Thank you very much. Will definitely be coming back.

This is now my second visit and WOW. We couldn’t have felt more welcome by the team and enjoyed a great evening. We sat at the bar which overlooks the kitchen, arguably the best seats. We had a culinary journey of quality produce loving crafting into the most amazing dishes. Can’t wait to go back! Go for their season sharing menu and relax

I really love the Flawd Wine bar and the food there. I had high expectations for what the team could do with an actual kitchen, but these unfortunately weren't met. We had the set menu and the food was nice but the vast majority didn't wow. The best thing we had was the golden beetroot with whipped (some sort of cheese) and quinoa which was lovely; would definitely recommend if you are there. Unfortunately though and considering the price point, everything else was nice enough but a bit dull. I would go back to the wine bar, but I wouldn't come here again.

Great staff, really knowledgeable. Excellent fresh food and interesting drinks. Staff were really attentive. The sharer manure was really diverse and the beef main was sublime. We appreciated the staff knowledge of the wines and beer and the relaxed vibe.

I came here with my sister and we got the sharing menu as well as 2 oysters each. I think I may have got lucky as one of my oysters was probably the biggest I've had and delicious. Out of the sharing menu the highlights would probably be the pea fritters, the turbot ( we got this instead of the pork because my sister doesn't eat meat), and the dessert. We had a Syrah which was lovely and the service was fantastic, very friendly.

Came for lunch, sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. What a fabulous experience ! Staff were welcoming friendly and informative. The food was outstanding. We had the set lunch, which at £38 per head is extremely reasonable , but the taste and quality of the food is like a Michelin starred restaurant ! Come now , it’s fab .

Mostly good. Started of a little underwhelmingly with the tempting-sounding pea fritters, which only taste of the cheese sprinkled on top. Gradually improved, with highlights being the delicious cheese tart, the tomatoes, monkfish and pork dishes. The wines were bizarrely disappointing - house rosé pretty much undrinkable - imagine a wine made of an old glass of red topped up with water... House fizz ok, but a bit more dry and aggressive than most cremants. House red ok, possibly better with a light chill. The service was a combination of exaggeratedly enthusiastic comments on our choices and being rather hurriedly anxious about getting us out before our allotted time elapsed (which we easily did by half an hour...) Ok, ok, this tells you my age but the music was too loud and not to my taste - electronic snare drums to the fore - but you get the picture. So ... some very good things about HG, but there are enough better restaurants of this ilk in Manchester now (hooray!) to make me think that I won't be hurrying back.

Fantastic restaurant showcasing fresh seasonal ingredients. They serve a selection of small plates and some larger ones with a regularly rotating menu. The staff were lovely and very helpful and everything I had was super delicious. I particularly enjoyed the tomato dishes and the beef tartare. I managed to snag a seat at the counter too so could watch the chefs prepare everything in their open kitchen. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

The dishes were straightforward, devoid of confusing Italian, French, or Japanese terminology often used in describing food. The meal was surprisingly invigorating, a quality I wouldn't typically associate with dinner. Every ingredient in each dish was distinct in flavor, creating a harmonious combination. What's more, this delightful experience came at a very reasonable price of £66 for a tasting menu paired with a non-alcoholic beverage. Taken here by our son and his partner as a treat. Heard a lot about it and been to Flawd, so very excited. My opinion on this place is as follows: Nice place, really cool vibe going on, like the mix of different seating areas with the bar seating and floor seating. Staff, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, food came out quickly and all dishes were explained fully. Food was beautifully presented and good flavours, nothing amazing, but all nice. However, portion sizes are very small for the price, certainly not sharing plates. Also, do not agree with 12.5% service tip, would prefer to tip accordingly. When I asked for this to be taken off and we would leave a tip, the server was a little judgemental in her attitude. All of us came out hungry and got a Chinese take away on the way home, not really ideal. Glad I tried it, would I go back, no.

Honestly the best place in Manchester. The service is world class, the food is second to none. Drink selection, decor - everything is just amazing. My go to place for special occasions because they make you/your guests feel a million dollars! Never fails to impress me and put a huge smile on my face and the pea fritters are the stuff dreams are made of. 10/10!

We ordered the set menu for two and were bewildered as to how they could possibly justify the portion sizes fit for two people. When we brought this up kindly with the manager he talked down to us as if we didn’t understand fine dining. If you wish to leave a dining experience with a full stomach, avoid this place. The food is nice enough, but massively overpriced and I will not be returning. It’s a real shame as I love the idea of farm to table local ingredients and an ever changing menu. But leaving a restaurant hungry and underwhelmed is a real shame

Really disappointing. The food was nice however portion sizes were really small. We completed the set menu (£116 for two) and both were so hungry by the end. I also had a hair in my dessert but they dealt with it quickly and it wasn’t a big deal. We shared the feedback with the staff and definitely wanted to understand why the portions looked the same for a table of 1, 2 and 4. Besides this, it wasn’t a big deal until the manager came over and asked us to repeat the feedback we shared with our server. My boyfriend reiterated that we didn’t think the portions were appropriate for 2 and he responded in quite a demeaning manner. By the end, I jumped in and said regardless of artistic concept that two people who pay £116 for food (no drinks yet) should not be leaving and having to grab a pizza from next door and that the way he was insinuating it was an “us” problem was just making a disappointing experience really uncomfortable. The manager wiped the bill without being asked which was not the point at all and ended up just making us feel even smaller for super reasonable feedback. Really a shame and I think there are much better spots in Manc to try.

First time visiting Higher Ground. We went for the chefs recommended set menu. Amazing meal and exceptional service. Great atmosphere in the restaurant. Will definitely be coming back.

Dinner for 5 was fantastic. We opted for the seasonal sharing menu at £58 per head and added on some of the a la carte plates we also wanted to try. The cheese options were absolutely delicious (pea and cheese fritters, cheese tart) and were a highlight. We also had several cocktails and 3 different bottles of wine. The staff were really knowledgeable and able to recommend options based on our tastes. Everything was great and we'd all definitely go back.

Had a set menu for two. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Overall experience was good. Food flavours quite good but wouldn’t say exceptional for price. Got over changed for drinks we didn’t have ( however this should be refunded). Service charge of 12.5% excessive in my opinion. Enjoy it? Yes would you go again? No.

The service was amazing. Super friendly! The food was delicious. Truly gorgeous. For us the wine was a low point. Having read some other reviews I can see the wine is from Flawd, which is a natural wine place. I don’t think it was clear on the menu that the wine was natural. We spent £45 on 4 glasses of different wines and unfortunately didn’t enjoy them. Such a shame when the food was so wonderful. Would suggest some slightly less funky wines on the menu for those who are not quite so experimental in their wine tastes.

This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in the UK. Each dish was so amazing that my partner and I waiting in anticipation for each subsequent course. Every member of the staff was equally knowledgable about the food and wine and could comfortably answer any question with a thorough and detailed response. At least three members hand wrote a list of recommendations for us, one of which was a chef owner (who wrote the most detailed list!). It's a destination restaurant, well worth the trip to Manchester just for that.

Wonderful experience from start to finish, food was of course absolutely stunning and the atmosphere is so welcoming, friendly and relaxed. Really thoughtful selection of low alcohol drinks, will be back for wine next time!

Honestly, the best dining experience i think I have ever had. Food was incredible; we tried to savour every taste and textural sensation. Atmosphere was great. Spectacular service. Not a single issue. So welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable. Super high end but doesn't make you feel out of place. Love it. 10/10.

We had the tasting menu and started out a tad underwhelming, not the showcasing we'd expected. Each dish did improve and the pasta before the main really upped the game after a couple of fairly standard courses and the main itself was super tasty. Overall we felt the cost for the portions wasn't worthwile , which disappointed. Oysters we added were outstanding though, and the welcome and customer engagement was very very good!

Food was very underwhelming and overpriced. The produce seemed fresh but dishes weren’t inventive enough. Overall the experience, location, service and food seemed unpolished for the price.
