I enjoyed the food, service was fast and with a smile, would recommend this place!

The services on asking for the bill was shocking we waiting 20 minutes asked 5 different waiters, while still waiting a couple next to us asked for there bill and got it straight away

I knew what to expect food wise, having dined at their Leeds restaurant. But Horbury restaurant was freezing, we were a large family group and lots of people kept their coats on ! Not a comfortable stay

I felt that everything happened too quickly, from the arrival of the drinks to the food. It felt like they wanted your eat up and go.

After driving by this place multiple times my family decided to give it a try. Alas, we were let down on the British interpretation of American BBQ. For myself I had the Texas 1/2 pound brisket and cornbread. 1) that was not half a pound, 2) it was very bland and the accompanied gravy didn't help, 3) tne coleslaw was flavorless, and 4) I'm American so I know what cornbread is and that wasn't it. It wasn't bad but it's something I wouldn't order again. My partner's chicken and waffles were also bland. Thank goodness for the syrup. The only pluses were our mocktails were delicious and our appetizers of pork bites were ok. Overall I won't revisit this restaurant or any other Hickory's for that matter. Think I'm better off with Reds or just taking a plane to the States and head to an actual BBQ restaurant.

After the first trip, we went back a week later as it was that good!

Our first visit for four. We ordered a smokehouse platter for 2 with garlic mushrooms and magic-dusted fries for three of us to share and a go big or go home burger for the other one. We decided on the sharing platter as we didn’t know what we would like and wanted a variety. I don’t usually eat big portions of meat but probably ate twice as much as I expected to. The meat was amazing, tasty and tender and mostly just fell off the bone. The brisket was like butter and the dusted fries certainly were magic. The burger was also a hit. Two shared a cookies and cream waffle plate and loved it. We are now in a food coma. Staff were really friendly and efficient. We loved the atmosphere, great decor and music. We asked to take our left over meat home and were given a couple of cardboard boxes and a strong paper bag to pack it in. It will make some lovely wraps for lunches for a couple of days. We would definitely recommend a visit and will visit again.

Didn't book prior to going, so the "front of house" seemed a bit put out!? After deliberating for a while, she said there was a table, but we could only be there for an hour!? Not very welcoming! ( That's why 4 stars ) However, the food and service were good 👍🏻

Food is gorgeous and the portions are very generous! The staff are extremely attentive and friendly. I would recommend the Louisiana hot chicken wings and the brisket Mac and cheese! The grape soda is also divine! Especially with a shot of vodka! Gave 4 stars, as they have had the same movie playing in the cinema for about 6 months. *EDIT 2024* This restaurant has really come a on leaps and bounds since my last review. The staff are absolutely fantastic and the food is always top notch. Highly recommend!!

I turned up without booking but they managed to fit us in. Typical American diner type atmosphere but at least there was no line dancing. The brisket was not bad in flavour, but I'm full of cold, and the salad was packed out with lettuce underneath.. Staff very friendly and served us quickly. I'd certainly call in again

This place is beyond good. Great atmosphere, genuinely thoughtful & professional staff and very authentic American smoke house style food from a vast menu that didn't fail to impress. Definitely visiting again ASAP

I was limited in menu choice (that's on me, not them)!!! Food was lovely. We were in a hut and a little chilly, however, the staff couldn't have been better, sorted the heaters and brought hot water bottles. Wonderful night. Will be back x

Visited on a busy Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our table was ready on time. Three out of the four meals were excellent. However, my medium rare steak was very rare and a bit tough. When I mentioned it to a member of staff they immediately apologised and took my meal off the bill. All in all, it was a really enjoyable evening. I will definitely be returning.

Colourful place, very tasty food and overall pleasant atmosphere.

Smoke rings, check. One of the greatest dining experiences we’ve had in a while. The food was glorious and the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. We got the most thoughtful gift at the end of our meal and were made to feel really welcome. 11/10 for culinary expertise and top notch service. Thanks to the whole team.

Food okay had the pulled pork but was a small portion. Starter of chicken gougons was better sized. Loud inside the place so conversations tended to be shouting matches. Watch out for the added tip on the bill Not too bad an experience but improvements could be made

Originally gave a 5 star review a few years ago but it feels that hickorys have put profit over quality with their expansion. Non-gluten menu now has may contains which defeats the definition of the word 'non' which is 'the absence of'. Doesn't feel very safe any more. They've also got rid of a common gluten free beer for jubel which isn't a normal beer. It just feels like they're getting rid of gluten free options and replacing them with cheaper quality products. Unfortunately we won't be going back, but it was nice whilst the quality lasted.

We booked a table of 16 for our friends Christmas presents dinner, along with a friends and my wife's birthday. I want to start by saying,The customer service there is outstanding!!! Seriously,I feel "outstanding"doesnt do it justice.Welcoming and tireless.......Amazing work guys. The food was amazing,bloody flawless infact and the cinema and play area just add to the experience. My daughter said its the best place she's been to in 8 years......she 8 by the way. The waiter was top notch.....sorry I'm rubbish at remembering names. We were genuinely blown away.Well done!!! I'll leave you with a Christmas tip: If you want to get someone a present but don't know what to get them,get them a false leg and tell them it's a stocking filler.

Hickory’s Horbury is our absolute favourite restaurant and we recommend to everyone. The food and surroundings are excellent but the service is incredible. Particularly when you have a celebration, the team at Hickory’s really make it an occasion. We took my son for dinner to celebrate passing his black belt in mixed martial arts.The team were wonderful with him, asking about his test and even arranged a gift as a congratulations. My son was made to feel very special and left with a huge smile on his face. They really do go above and beyond and we will continue to be regular visitors!

Good food , service ok Can be very noisy, quite expensive for what you get

The staff and food are incredible, however the gluten free menu is much smaller and more expensive since our last visit. It's very clear they are putting quantity over quality of dishes now they are opening more stores. It's a shame a lot of gluten free options are now may contain.

Food was dry and not what I expected. From seeing other reviews and videos of smokehouse meat I thought it would be juicy and it was no where near

Excellent food, had meat platter n daughter had mac n cheese. Got beef short rib, pork ribs, pulled pork with beans, brisket beef, cheese pork sausage, with magic dust fries garlic mushroom and a seasoned biscuit.. I had to take box home as there was enough for 2 on my single platter. Wow tho gorgeous. Will be visiting again. Staff are very helpful and tend to your needs. Complementry pop corn when you go in.

came to Hickory’s for my 21st birthday meal at 8 months pregnant and our lovely server Liv made me so special and even made me a blue mocktail to celebrate my birthday and expecting a baby boy! everything was perfect and of course the food was delicious. attention to detail was out of this world and i can’t thank the staff at Hickory’s Horbury enough, especially Liv! thank you :)

Great place, Shared the platter for two was really nice. Great place for kids with the cinema room which is a nice touch. Our son has a peanut allergy & the manager came over once we had chosen his meal with all allergens listed on a iPad which we thought was fantastic never had that anywhere before. 5 ⭐

All the stars to this place! The concept has truly been fulfilled, especially in Wakefield, you get what you come in for. Good food and good atmosphere. Also we mentioned something about basketball (as we are big fans of euroleague) and this place actually got us a gift! Tickets to a basketball game! This is absolutely amazing and super thoughtful of them. They keep surprising us even though it is not our first time visiting. Truly the best place in Wakefield to eat! 🙂‍↕️

Won’t being going again me and missis went and food was shocking payed 23 pound heinz beans & pulled pork. Thought I treat myself to a platter for one £33 shocking Brisket was only good thing everything else on the plate was chewy and hard

I've been driving past for Months and wanting to go in here...but couldn't due to having our dog with us. However.. managed to get in yesterday and was very impressed. We both love meat so this place seemed seemed right up our street. Nice little touch with the popcorn.. We ordered the sharing platter which was awesome and more than enough for 2 of us... Very surprised at how quickly the food came even though it seemed busy. Nice drinks with cherry ice cream soda... Great touch with a bottle of water too! Left enough room for dessert... Frozen custard cookie... And a DIY marshmallow firey cauldron . Very impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll be back

So good. Proper BBQ pit, superb service, big portions, reasonable price, authentic and researched food. Best BBQ I've had in the UK alongside Smoke Barbecue when it was in Leeds/Sheffield. Even for a free cinema room!

Food poisoning avoid! Went here on Friday the 25th of October with my wife and 2 children for my birthday meal! Was really impressed with the place and the service was phenomenal! They really went above and beyond on that side, it's also the first resturant I've been to that has a cinema which was a cool touch! I ordered the fried chicken waffle, when I was eating it they was an odd taste but I wasn't sure weather that was because it was my first time trying a sweet and savoury dish, so I carried on eating, when I returned to my car about 30 minutes after finishing my meal I started to feel extremely poorly! Like I was about to vomit, I haven't been able to eat or drink anything since and have been awake all night in the bathroom, completely ruined my birthday weekend because of this I can't reccomend Hickorys to anyone.

First time at Hikory’s I was very impressed service was amazing, drinks and the best brisket I’ve ever tasted. Great atmosphere. Gets very busy! But doesn’t feel overwhelming as seating is nicely spaced out.

Me and my boyfriend came for his 21st birthday. Got an American country vibe to it which we loved. Food was amazing, a little pricey (around £30-£50pp) but totally worth it. The staff were so kind, checked that everything was alright and asked if we wanted more drinks etc… the berry good iced tea was 10/10. Our first time here but would recommend this to anyone thinking of going here and will definitely come back.

Ate here on Sunday. Booked weeks in advance when arriving we were told they were unsure if we had a table. Asked to wait in the bar area reapproached again unsure if they could seat us? The two share platters came dry ,Luke warm and abit sad looking the rest was ok. We had to practically jump on staff for additional drinks, puddings ,coffees etc Within 24hrs all of us had excess gas, the youngest vomited followed by another member from another house. We would have wrote this off as a bug had it not been that both families were unwell and those that didn't come out have been perfectly fine. Easy to say we won't be coming again or recommending to others.

Food is always excellent, one of our favourite places to go. Only ever had 2 issues, we were once forgotten about, we had to go get someone to take our order and once was an extremely noisy kids party that was out of control. We still return on a regular basis despite this.

The second time dining at Hickory's and both times have been 1st class. Excellent food and friendly, polite staff what more could you want.

First time visiting with my partner and it was amazing! Brett gave us his personal opinion whilst we were struggling to decide & he was great throughout. Constantly checking if we needed any extra drinks, sauces etc. we will be back with family, thank you Brett.

Always wanted to try one of these. But disappointed to be fair. I had the ribs which should be a BBQ staple and should be excellent. But no. Dry and came cold. Couldn’t be bothered to send them back if they can’t get something as simple as ribs correct. Iceland do a better box of ribs. Staff are good. But food needs to be a lot better. We won’t be returning

Hickory's is incredibly atmospheric, with delicious food and great service. It gets very busy towards the evening, so booking is recommended, although we did also do a walk-in on an occasion in the late afternoon with no problem. Parking also gets quite full up during those busy periods. The staff welcome you warmly with some complimentary popcorn. On the drinks side, beer is great, but the frozen cocktail I didn't rate - Miami Vice was very weak, like a fruit juice. We have tried that sharing platter, with no starters. It was plenty for two people, and featured all the great menu items.

This time our waiter was a young lad named Tyler who went out of his way to make our visit perfect, he made a huge fuss of our daughter who had just done a gymnastics competition that morning and he really made her day!! A big thank you to the staff at Hickory's Smokehouse Horbury for being truly amazing. We booked one of the outside cabins to celebrate what would have been our good friend's 35th birthday. He sadly passed away in June this year. When we contacted the restaurant and informed them about the occasion, we chose this place because our friend loved everything about the USA—he was a British cowboy at heart. Before the event, Sam, the manager, reached out to me to confirm everything was set and asked if there was anything extra they could do. It was so thoughtful of them to check in with us. When we arrived at the restaurant, they had gone above and beyond. They reserved the large outside cabin for us and decorated it with red, white, and blue balloons in tribute to our friend. They also provided a memory box with cards and pens so we could write birthday wishes and post them in the box for safekeeping. In addition, the staff gifted a beautiful bouquet of flowers to our friend’s mother, which was such a touching gesture. Kitty, the floor manager, warmly greeted us and gave us a tour of the cabin. They had even set up a special table for Paul with a bottle and something sparkly for us to toast him when we were ready. A special shout-out to Juice, Dave, and Foxy Roxy—the two team members who were assigned to us. Five stars isn’t enough to express how incredible they were. We will never forget the kindness and exceptional customer service they showed us during such a meaningful and emotional time. They even let us write messages on the balloons, and cleared an area in the beer garden so we could release them into the sky for him. Thank you all so much. You made us smile again when we needed it most.

Amazing American food, exciting menus

Great service here on Saturday lunchtime, good food and portion sizes. Staff went out of their way to make it extra special with a couple of cocktails to mark an occasion. Big thanks to the team!

Very busy on Saturday night, had to wait a while for table and food but the staff were brilliant and lovely food.

First time at Hickory ,and it was a great atmosphere and the food was great also price not too bad for portion size.They also do good stuff for kids too.

Good was delicious 😋 great service

We went with a party of 8 for my daughters birthday. The staff were lovely and 7 meals were perfect but mine was overcooked. I ate it but mentioned it to the server at the end and the staff couldn't do enough to apologise. Both daughters (6 and 3) loved the cinema room and the popcorn, watching Moana kept them entertained all night, they didn't want to leave. All the family really enjoyed it, and we will definitely return.

The food, of course, was delicious. Tonnes of smoky barbecue flavour and I especially enjoyed the jalapeño sausages. But the best but was the atmosphere. I sat at the counter where you could chat to the chefs and the really made the experience fun. Highly recommend

Love this place great for families

Decent food terribly slow service Was for a birthday and we stayed for 3 hours in which we only had 1 course and 2 drinks After one hour of waiting we received our first course, within 30 minutes we'd all eaten but only had one drink within the 1.5 hours and I had to leave the table to go ask for drinks The drinks took 30 minutes to come and we waited another hour in hopes we'd ask for our desert order in which never happened so we left at the 3 hour mark as we'd given up

Booked hickory’s for my mums birthday this evening at 5pm and immediately delayed 20 minutes to a table. The food was great and arrived fairly quickly, however we must have been sat with our empty plates and glasses for over an hour. By 7pm we’d only had one drink and finally had our plates cleared away. We were very excited to try the desserts, but after having to ask for a menu and another 40 minutes passing by without being served, we asked for the bill and left. I’d also called prior to the booking to ask if we could sing to my mum for her birthday and the server told us they would, this never happened. They were really busy tonight but clearly need to hire more staff or stop taking on so many bookings as the reviews on here suggest this is regular for them. Our server spent most of his evening at the opposite end of the restaurant. I’d definitely suggest you celebrate a birthday etc elsewhere as we left feeling really deflated and won’t be returning to hickory’s

If I could give 0 I would an apallingly bad experience. The smoke here was from bottles, cans or jars. The brisket was greasy with no smoking done, the gravy was thin and runny, the beans were disgustingly runny and grey coloured with strings of pork. The shrimp in the Po'boy were served stone cold. The brisket in the sub was tough and grisly, the french fries all served cold and obviously from frozen. The Mac n Cheese was very salty and portions were ridiculously small. What the heck is that so-called coleslaw with its unknown flavour and rather rank. In my 30 years as a food product developer in North America I have never come across such blatantly false advertising for meals. As for the ambience - please stop playing that god awful cowboy music so loudly and supposedly representative of Southern music have you never heard of Delta Blues, New Orleans jazz and even Jimmy Buffet, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnnie Cash? This restaurant would crash and burn in a week if it was in the Southern USA. Received an email from the GM about this review who promised to call me about it and then she never bothered.

Service shocking . Food ok and over priced. We asked for the bill after we ordered dessert then they decided to bring my grandsons birthday donut. I think they'd forgot till they saw the bill but there was a happy birthday sign in front of him

All the food we ordered was perfect but service was terrible. Took ages to get served after sitting down. The starters arrived before the drinks, then the server tried to clear our starters while we still eating. The mains came while the starters were still on the table. We waited 30 minutes for our mains to be cleared, then got the bill when that didn't happen. Other tables had eaten 3 courses and left while we still waiting. No extras for the birthday celebration which was very disappointing. Much better experience at the Huddersfield branch.

Reminding us so much of dining in the America. The location is a little hidden but that did not stop it being really busy with a great atmosphere. The decor truly adds to the experience. We got good service and had high expectations for the food having read other reviews and we were not disappointed at all. The beef brisket was cooked perfectly and the burger we had was unbelievable possibly the best I have ever had. We will definitely be back very soon.

Got taken here for pre stag doo food and drinks, realy friendly and polite staff, did a lot for us on the day bless em. Even had me behind the bar making myself a cocktail, blew my head off to be fair ha Keep it up peeps 👍

Good food, friendly relaxed atmosphere and great service.

This was my 3rd visit to Hickorys, on the 2 previous occasions I had ordered the waffle, but this time I wanted something different. My son and daughter-in-law had taken me for a meal for my birthday. I am a straight talking person who will quite readily voice my opinion if something isn't right. On looking at the menu I found there wasn't anything I could order from the starters as there are lots of things I just don't like, so my son ordered their starters as a side dish to accompany their main meal. Again, I had the same problem with the mains, there were just too many things on the mains which I can't eat ie: onions, pickles , peppers etc. So after studying the menu I decided on the pulled pork, it came with pickles but I thought I would just ask for them to be left off, I am allergic to cucumber, ( it makes me violently sick). On trying to order this meal, I was asked what pickles I was allergic to and basically told that this wasn't the meal for me as it was cooked in apple cider vinegar, (I don't have any issues with apple cider vinegar) anyway the waitress then said she would get a tablet and go through the allergies with me. However well intentioned this may have been, I had by now had enough, so I ordered the 3am mac n cheese. That was a mistake. I ordered it with fries which were cold and the chicken on the mac n cheese tasted like it had been cooked in salt. I left at least half of the meal, and as I said I'm a straight talker but I could see the disappointment on my sons face so I kept quiet. The waitress asked me if I wanted a box for my leftover food ( only if I wanted to give it a decent burial). I politely refused. By now, I just wanted to leave , but I was presented with a donut on a birthday board with a firework in and had happy birthday sang to me. If the floor would have opened up I would have gladly crawled in. I hate being the centre of attention. I was now ready to leave as I had a banging headache from the ridiculously loud music. I think its safe to say that that will be my last visit to Hickorys. Disgraceful response from the owner.

Time is currently 19.19 sat here for over half an hour as a table of 12 after we have finished our meal and not one member of staff has been over to ask if everything is alright or if we need our plates clearing away. We have been here 2 hours .... After we ordered our food, 3 of our plates had stains on and we told the staff... Instead of bringing new plates out he just wiped it down and brought it back out, the plates still had tomato sauce stains on. Me and my partner ordered the platter, beef brisket, beef rib , chicken wings and sausage is very good. The pork ribs and pulled pork was very underwhelming. Food was Luke warm when brought out. I would go back to Hickory's for the beef brisket and beef ribs but not this branch (Video taken at 19.10 & 19.25)

Food was ok, service was disgusting staff would rather talk to team members than pay attention to customers. Waited ages for the bill and even longer for a box to takeaway my food. Wouldn’t come back again
