Heath Fish Bar in North Kesteven

This place used to be excellent. Not any more and shopped there for the last time. The past twice I have been the chips have been awful and last time the batter on the sausages was obviously overcooked or reheated. The atmosphere is the shop is awful with whom I presume to be manager cooking at the back screaming at his employee. All the decent staff seem to have vanished and just appears to be two of them working now. Its an embarrassment and staff member constantly being belittled in front of customers who don't know where to look. Constant begging on Facebook as to how they can improve and they want to know what customers want...well a better non toxic atmosphere, fresh food cooked to order and bigger portions back as they were...a management course on how to treat your employees wouldn't go a miss either!

AVOID- Since the new management have taken over this place its awful. The food is terrible and the management are horrific. I have visited numerous times and the management have been screaming at their own staff. The food handling is disgusting, excessive make up, jewlery. The chef was wearing sliders, shorts and a hoodie to cook in which is terrible hygene. The portion sizes for a large are tiny and the value for money is not there. We wont be returning and I have reported this business to the local EHP for an immediate inspection.

READ THIS: New management has ruined this fish and chip shop. Tiny, cold portions, battered sausages overcooked with barely any batter on. A large portion will leave you hungry. I have been in numerous times as this used to be one of the best chippies, but since new management, i have witnessed appalling behaviour from the chef screaming at employees in front of customers, causing them to look very distressed. My friend visited the other day and after witnessing the chef shouting at his staff he then turned to my friend and in an aggressive manner said "Why are YOU looking at me like that". This is unnaceptable behaviour, it is clear the chef should not be allowed to work here and should learn how to work in hospitality. The cleanliness is also appalling.

Everything was dry hard and cold, and as for “your order is ready” - still had to wait for it to be wrapped and packed. £60 spent and no way near the quality it was previously

Food was old/reheated, batter was like cardboard, smelt of ammonia, old fish! Don’t know what has happened it used to be great, family used it all the time! No more, expensive and inedible!

Got a sausage special, thought I had received a childs meal the portion was so small.

Portion size was shocking, to say the price rises I’ve seen over the years here it’s disappointing. Can’t of had more than a handful of chips.

Food was ok however portion sizes were half of what they are when you go in store . Regular chips were two handfuls of chips and cheesy chips filled half of the container. Also kids meals aren’t available online as they are in-store . Chez special tasted nice however is nothing like as advertised. It’s essentially a mixed kebab with 30 chips and two cans of Coke

Truly awful food. I had not gotten food from this once-good restaurant for some time and was looking forward to my kebab & fish & chips. However, I could not believe my eyes when it was delivered. I could nearly count on one hand the amount of chips I got, and the fish was tiny, broken into about four sections, and extremely overcooked. The kebab I got was also very dry and overcooked, and you don't even get an option for salad. What on earth happened to this once-good restaurant?

Delivery on time. Food was old and very greasy. Fish wasn’t fresh as had a very bad smell. Very Dark,brown old oil was coming out of the fish.Chips made with green potatoes which are toxic. Only eatable was mashy peas. Not recommended.

Very disappointed. Fish was over cooked last week. Kebab was very small and cold. Salad, more like a garnish.

DO NOT ORDER THE CHEZ SPECIAL. It is NOT what it states. It’s simply a poor chicken kebab for twice the price

Very small portions for the price you pay. Hit and miss on quality of food depending on how long it's been sitting there. Chips sometimes taste a little undercooked

This was my first time back I guess new management is in place now and it’s definitely not worth the £8 I paid.

Absolutely disgusting service and food. Paid over £40 for our order, including a large chips which wasn't in the order, one of the 'large' curry sauces was barely half full and there was two charges of £2.70 for 'zero rated food' which I have absolutely no idea what it was as it didn't relate to anything on the order - will never return.

Good size portions. All food has been perfect from here. Good value for money. Atmosphere is always good, a lovely family run business 😊

Delicious batter on the fish, and the chips are exquisite. Very Generous portions. Good price too. There was a long line of people there, and I was annoyed, thinking I had a long wait, but the staff blazed through it. And despite being flat out, had a smile and a friendly manner for everyone.

Service is very good and quite quick. The food is freshly cooked. One of my favourite fish &Chip shops in the area. Would highly recommend it.

Brilliant fish and chips shop. Fresh fish cooked to order. The owner is Lovely and friendly , always nice to chat with him while you wait for food , can highly recommend this shop.

Just been for fish & chips. After ordering and then serving other people the server turned to us and asked what we’d ordered. She then took the food out of the hot cabinet (which hadn’t been refilled), therefore why were we waiting? I said the order back to her and ask her to confirm it was all there, she said yes. On returning home, there was one fish missing!!! The fish we did receive was dry, and the chips were hard and inedible. I should have known it would be dreadful, as the place was filthy! Needless to say, we won’t be going back!

Very smelly and greasy, cooked to dark brown colour. Very old oil must have been used. Very unhealthy, it's not recommended.

Never had a bad meal. Always fresh , cook to order, decent portions. Won’t go anywhere else now, definitely recommend !

Food is cooked whilst you wait so always fresh

We as a family decided to try food from this place and indeed we had very nice food and tasty. We had kebabs with salad and fish and chips that we couldn’t eat it all due to how big the portions were. Staff were very polite and we even had a joke with the owner while cooking our food , also noticed they’re food hygiene score high and overall very busy place which shows they are doing a good job. We will order regularly from now on.

Awful food hardly any fish but loads of greasy batter totally inedible. Mushy peas were cold and curry sauce was way to strong obviously been made up wrong. Don’t waste your money.

Got the chicken tikka kebab. Was a decent size, fairly expensive seeing there's are Kebab shop across the road that is a few quid cheaper but the chicken was overly salty and had a weird taste to it ( fishy). I could only eat half as my lips were tingling from the salt or strange spice. It got busy but one of the staff was just chatting and not paying attention to other customers. Didn't seem too clean, won't be eating there again. Been having bad stomach pains since eating it. 🤢

We had fish cake and battered sausage and large chips. There was not one chip that didn't look like scraps

We get fish and chips from here weekly. Generally the standard is high with generous portions. Prices have gone up of late, pricing them above local competition in Metheringham and Billinghay but are still cheaper than the national average. Parking can be a bit of a challenge here, not the fault of HFB but worthy of note, you might need to be patient to let people figure out how to escape the place!

Only dropped 1 star as a little expensive, but cod and chips were superb and cooked to order. Friendly staff too

First bad kebab tonight. I recommend this place to loads of people but not sure what happened today. All the salad and I got 3 onions and a few finely chopped cucumber and tomatoes. That's it. No cabbage nothing. I thought it felt and looked tiny. Normally portions are huge. Young kids working

Staff always friendly and good food

The food is OK but be careful of turning up within half an hour of the published closing time, their habit is to close early if they want to. Annoying when you've made a journey there.

Not really sure how that's a large chips. Used to be able to get 2 plate of chips out of a large. Looks more a regular portion to me. Won't be going back in a rush.

Called yesterday for some lunch,had to wait for the potato fritters and when my partner came to eat them they were not cooked,will not be using this establishment again

For years, on and off, I’ve visited this F & C restaurant on a Friday. Bought a family meal this evening, got back home and discovered the Large chips part of the meals was much much smaller than normal. I suspect they’d given me a medium instead of large. Went back to politely query this (these meals are NOT cheap) and was told my complaint was ‘noted’.

Well everything just lacked luster, the chips were far from the best, battered sausage seamed like it was a plane from the previous day re cooked, the shop is looking run down and no hello just shouted at did I want anything frying and that was before I had even had chance to view the menus..

Had large fish and chips peas on a Friday at tea time 10 pounds and it was stone cold the chips was from dinner time - went in on Monday to say it was degussing - no apologies or refund - there son karim rated him allways spot on went ever Friday - left it a month went back and because I voiced my apionion - told not welcome

This is the second time that we went for the donner kebab with salad and donner meat and chips. We have never had donner meat served as thick as this which was very unpleasant to eat it was so thick I even requested that it be thinly sliced when I called in my order. the meat was so thick that it was not enjoyable the garlic mayo was almost invisible and my wife wanted to have donner meat and salad and the salad was also almost invisible. It all went in the bin as it was a horrible meal and that is now the second time we have experienced the same so no more from us.

Despite telling the girl on the till 3 times what size take away fish and chips I wanted I got home to find I’d been overcharged. Phoned up to ask the prices and an older women said they assume you want larger portions of Chips if you don’t tell them. 3 times I had told the young girl on the till. When I started to speak again, the women hung up on me. How RUDE. The extra food went straight in the bin. Terrible waste. Unprofessional service and apparently hard of hearing child on the till. I won’t be going there again.

Called today about noon. 20-25 minute wait if you wanted kebab meat. So why was it not prepared before 11:30 before they open. I didn't have time to wait so I ordered a 12" dirty battered sausage and chips, peas and gravy and to be fair the peas was about the only thing that tasted like food. The gravy was set within 2 minutes the chips I've never tasted chips like it. Like chewing cardboard. The sausage again was bland. The gravy no taste. Only thing I could taste in the gravy was vinegar. Overall sh1te and £6.00 odd worse off. PS they also forgot to give me a fork as I was asked if I want the dinner open.

Ordered kebab meat and chips twice, should have been £15 according to their menu. Didn't realise until I was home I'd been sold kebab and chips which was over £20, they had not even had the decency to give us the pitta and salad they had charged us for. I know kebab is greasy but this was awful. I threw half of it away as it was like eating a sponge full of grease. Chips were all scraps and tasteless.

How RUDE I went to the Fish Bar for my tea Steak and kidney pie and peas and scrapes .After waiting 10 minutes The owner approached me with a small bag of scrapes and a pie wrap in a peice of paper .When I asked about the chips she said I did not order chips .I said I know I did but let's not make an issue of it can I have some chips please.With that she turned to one of the assistants and said portion of chips and make sure he pays .So the young lass wrapped up some chips and I said can you wrap these in with the chips.She snatched them off me while rolling her eyes and said nothing .As I was leaving I said your boss is a bit RUDE .She replied. Have a lovely evening .I replied I will not be back and a lady customer said you did order chips .To which I replied yes thank you . This lady use to run took over the running of the Wkaddingto Fish bar from her father whom is know for his food as being first class.But a year after taking over they closed it down because they had lost a lot of business.She then ended up with her brother in Bracebridge heath.

For the third time of me asking for a cod ,the third time of it getting forgotten resulting in me having to wait longer one time wife had scampi it dried out sat in counter waiting for the cod been using Waddington/bracebridge for 30 plus years just not good enough adji good friend would not be happy about it

Fantastic customer service on entry, greeted with a smile. Promptly took my order which was all cooked fresh. Fantastic value for money, a real gem in the local area. Not that I required it but it is good to see that the entrance is wheelchair friendly.

My daughter had a yen for fish and chips, dropped into the Bracebridge Heath fish bar and bought back piping hot fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish was really meaty and tasty, the chips were done to a turn and the peas were, well mushy!!! All very good.

Spot on. Covid secure. Friendly. Quick. Nice decent portion. Tasty and not greasy. Decent mushy peas and curry sauce to boot.

Great gluten free fish chips on Mondays

The food here is excellent, one of the best chip shops I have ever been in. But, poorly run, and unprofessional to young staff. Also, seems now to be closed more days than it's open? Maybe they can't get any staff?

My first and last experience of this restaurant was terrible. The restaurant was clearly under staffed which I completely understood and I had no problem waiting in line for my food. The reason I will never return is due to the way the staff were treated, I was stood in the que and could hear the manager or supervisor yelling insults and swearing at his team, who were clearly trying to do their best. He then proceeded to chuck his phone across the room whilst yelling at the staff, when I went in to place my order he then proceeded to punch through the hot cabinet. I asked the member of staff if she was OK, canceled my order and left. I would like to stress my issue is not with the staff members who all were clearly working hard in a horrendous environment.

I have never seen such disrespect towards young staff members! What looked like the manager was shouting and swearing abuse at his staff before kicking a plastic box and breaking it across the floor. And throwing his phone onto the work surface. He then proceeded to demand his staff tell waiting customers that there is a delay due to staff shortage and then about st even for not serving quick enough. He then got off the phone again and punched the plastic sliding doors on the hot counter through, to the other side and into the floor smashing and cutting his Own leg (good job no staff where injured) the kebab was like rubber and as though it had been sat for a few hours! The service from the young woman and young man was amazing under the circumstances and they both deserve an award for staying as at least 7 customers walk away whilst I was waiting for my food! I’m glad i didn’t have children with me as it was scary for an adult do watch!

Fish. Lovely. Chips lovely. Mushy peas. Not that great. Very dark green and bland (just mine and my partners personal opinions). But wont stop us going there as the rest of the food is lovely.
