Service was great (but helped by the fact there was only one other table occupied). Mixed reviews of the food - salmon was succulent and sumptuous. Chicken great. Burger was good for one of our family but the other found it very average. And at least they came up trumps with the featherblade of beef as it was sold out so they gave us the sirloin for the same price!

Very disappointing, hummus came with toast not focaccia, burger was clearly processed, not the homemade burger that I expected from this restaurant. Wine was good and the restaurant is very comfortable

My friend and I recently visited Hazel for lunch for the first time. The restaurant was huge, well decorated; however, really lacked atmosphere likely due to it being so quiet (we were one of only two tables in a huge space). Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was well presented and tasty; however, the small plates were absolutely tiny for the price. Overall, the experience was average so I’d probably only go back if they were running a deal.

Wanted to go here for a while, due to the social media hype we've seen. To be honest we were disappointed. True the setting is gorgeous, very modern and trendy the hotel itself is lovely definitely worth a visit if in Glasgow. However, for us the restaurant was a massive let down. On arrival atmosphere was good, seated very quickly table was around the large tree, menu arrived slowly followed by a slow drinks order. When seated we were informed that if we ordered the "pie" it would be about a 20 minute wait as this was made fresh to order, this intrigued us so we ordered it. Over an hour later our "large" plates arrived, large is not the word I would use to describe the food on the plates, that being said the plates themselves were large! The cooked from fresh pie was nothing spectacular and unsure why it took so long to cook, it was basically a puff pasty lid on top of chicken mixture in a pie dish, the duck dish was tasty enough, however the tortellini which was filled with duck leg was inedible due to the thickness of the pasta and it wasn't cooked through, the other dish we order was the fish this was cooked well. You need sides to go with the "large" plates otherwise there will not be enough. After our dinner another table asked us how long our food had taken we explained about 1 hour they said they had been waiting longer than this and were ready to leave, seemed to be the theme of the night! Give it was only approx. 6pm on a Saturday not sure what was happening in the kitchen! Overall, price for 3 people with a couple of drinks was £160 which was overpriced for what we had, such a shame as this had the potential to be so much better than it is, hopefully it will get better

This place is absolutely beautiful. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The menu is lovely. The only reason I didn’t give Hazel 5 stars was due to the portion sizes. The food was delicious, but the portion sizes are really small. My son’s fish and chips (from the kids menu) was the largest of all the meals. We also ordered the “fruit” from the kids dessert menu which consisted of 3 toothpicks with a raspberry and a blueberry on each for £4 which was disappointing.

This was our first visit, a group of 4 friends. There were some kitchen issues with lack of gas, but we would never have known if we had not been told. We were served a mix of small and large plates of food that were well presented, mouth watering, and yummy. This was a meal we all thoroughly enjoyed. The setting has a feeling of being bright, airy, and lavish, and we loved the glasses that our drinks were served in. Staff were friendly and helpful, with a casual but smart dress atire. The service we felt was served just right. We didn't wait too long and definitely were not rushed as we moved on to desserts and a few more drinks. Prices were reasonable, and we all felt that we would definitely return. Our staff were Jamie, Lewis and Bronwyn who we would like to thank personally for a lovely afternoon.

The server i think her namd was Michelle was excellent. Very pleasant and attentive. Meal was lovely with starters of scallops and merguez croquettes were great. Mains of pork belly and hake were delicious and desserts of sticky toffee pudding and creme brulee finished a lovely meal. Went into the hotel bar and service was excellent. Bar manager served drinks which were excellent. He even enquired later if we had enjoyed the drinks which was appreciated. First time there but definely worth a visit.

Myself and my partner went to Hazel for an early Valentine's Day dinner. I usually will give leeway to restaurants, especially newer ones for any growing pains or issues. However, I like to give an honest review when I see high prices for quality of food that just doesn't match. I'll start with the positives: the staff were absolutely lovely, they were very helpful and friendly absolutely no complaints about the staff. The look of the place is really pretty, but it becomes what I fear with newer restaurants, all style and no substance! We decided to order a few small plates: Maple whipped butter and sourdough, padron peppers, haggis croquettes, fries and the scallops. The maple whipped butter had been in the fridge or the freezer and was not spreadable, it also did not seem to have any kind of maple flavour. The sourdough bread it came with looked like it had been put through one of those hotel breakfast toasters, so it was soft but also stone cold. It came with olive oil and balsamic, but in a narrow pot which isn't practical, you can only really get to the oil that way and end up with just vinegar at the bottom. The green padron peppers lacked flavour and were lukewarm, the few slices of red pepper in the pot given were nicer, however. When the main small plates came, the scallops again were cold, but did have a nice flavour. The croquettes were nice but nothing amazing. The fries were very standard, nothing impressive. I never usually leave a review this negative but I feel like the price was not reflective of the quality of food. If you pay £14 for three scallops and they come out cold, it just feels like there's a lack of care there. I used to work in a hotel so I know there's a certain way things are done, but when you are spending £5 on sourdough bread and butter, it should be toasted, warm bread and butter that has flavour and is easy to spread at the very least. I can't speak on the large plates, perhaps those are better but the overall experience we had I think indicates a lack of quality control with the food. I honestly think Hazel is a lovely spot for a couple of drinks with friends (the bar area next to the restaurant area is really pretty), and I would return on that basis but I would not go there for lunch or dinner.

I came here in December for my 50th so I’ve just had chance to write this review. The food was lovely and the service was very friendly. The beef bone dish was so tender. The servers were very young but that’s probably the way hospitality is now. I would definitely come back.

What a great place for a family get together to celebrate a couple of recent birthdays. 7 adults over 3 generations and everyone loved the food, the ambience and the fabulous service. Hazel is a great addition to the Glasgow dining scene and the cocktails were brilliant. We agreed that we would all be back frequently, both collectively and individually.

We had high hopes for this restaurant based on other reviews we had read, however we left underwhelmed and disappointed. When we arrived the restaurant was empty and we were the only table for quite some time, by the time we left there were a further 4 tables in. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff were friendly and courteous (apart from the waiter who when asked where the toilet was thought that “just chose any corner” was a funny and appropriate response). Where it lets itself down is the food! To start we shared the haggis croquettes which were very tasty, but lacked enough of the aioli to be able to taste it. Mains we had a burger and the pork belly. My friends review of the burger was “it’s ok, just ok, no better or different to any other burger I’ve had” I had the pork belly stuffed with dates and chorizo. This was very lacklustre in flavour and was luke warm at best. It was also meant to be served with heritage carrots however only came with ONE carrot baton and one limp floret of broccoli. Although I did finish the meal, I wasn’t blown away by it, the meat was quite dry and under seasoned. When I told the server the meal could have been warmer I was offered “I’ll pass than on to the chef”, no apology or follow up. For desert we shared a sticky toffee pudding, which was nice enough, but it wasn’t WOW. Over all I would rate the experience as ok, but it’s not somewhere I plan on returning to try again, which is so disappointing given how gorgeous the restaurant is.

Visited Hazel for a family lunch on a Friday afternoon and we were not disappointed. We were well looked after by the wonderful staff who were extremely helpful, especially with the pram and looking after our 9 week old daughter. Special mention to Gregor. The food was delicious and served in a beautiful, contemporary setting. A great addition to the Glasgow food scene.

Head Chef Eric Avenier (French) left the restaurant after a few weeks! The entry on John Street involves several steps down which can be avoided via the hotel entrance. The restaurant is brite and new (with its fake tree) however tables for two are small if several plates are in use, and the noise level is quite high. The service was slow but friendly (10% added) but the bar and kitchen are some distance away and food can cool quickly. The Bar/Lounge/Cafe area is more attractive in the next room. The opening menu tries to please but offers little to keep you returning. Fish & chips, Burger, our starters were good Cullen Skink came with good toasted bread & butter. Seared King Scallops well presented and delish. Mains, Haunch of Venison & Pork Belly were good but the meat lacked some flavour. The wine list a shade dull, my Prosecco served flat. I ordered a small Shiraz and a large one was served, neither it nor the Pinot noir were great. Sadly this very handsome hotel restaurant does not show ambition just yet.

What a beautiful place. Lovely surroundings and the food was really good. I think the service staff need more training. Very un attentive. We waited over 30 mins to have our plates cleared away. When they were cleared we had absolutely no interaction from the server. We were ready to have a dessert and more wine but after waiting another 20 mins I had to call across the restaurant to get someone’s attention to bring the bill. The restaurant lost out getting more custom from us and the restaurant wasn’t even busy. Disappointing visit.

Came here for lunch with friend and what a great find. I was early for the table. Chap showed me to table under the staircase. Why?! Asked for a change since I was the only one in the whole restaurant! Told me tables have been allocated but to whom? Ghosts!! Anyway got a table beside the window and quite happy. Our server is so delightful so forgot all the initial unpleasantness. We both ordered the burger with cheese and a glass of rose Prosecco. Absolutely delicious and what a great restaurant. It was quite empty despite it being lunch time. Perhaps it is still a new restaurant but hopefully it will get busier. Great work .

No volveré.
