You guys have been our local fish bar for the best part of 30 years! It was great to see you deliver the food for the local quiz night in Boldmere & to hear the positive feedback from the folks as they enjoyed the good quality food you guys delivered 😋

Order from here regularly and never had a problem. Food is always hot and tasty. Staff are always really polite and friendly. Would always recommend Hawthorn Fish Bar to people looking for a really good chippy

A friendly, family run chip shop. Food is great. Staff are accommodating and you are always greeted with a welcoming smile. Highly recommend the Indian chicken curry sauce. Also THE best chips! 😁😁

💯 The Best Chippy In Birmingham Proper fresh Cod cooked in the crispiest batter. Amazing crispy chips. Huge selection of other choices of freshly cooked food. I always say, if there’s a queue outside a chip shop, you know it’s a good one. The staff are very quick at serving and always have a helpful pleasant welcoming attitude. If I could award them more than five stars, I certainly would. Been using this chippy since it opened in 1982.

It’s time we’ve used this Fish and Chip shop and it definitely won’t be the last!! The fish was superb and the batter so light! The chips were so very tasty and the mushy peas and curry sauce was really tasty! Thank you very much and see you in 2025

What a great chippy (Hawthorn Chippy). Food is delicious. Ordered yesterday 26th November 24. we had Chicken and Chips lunchbox & Large Chicken Meat and Chips together with homemade samosa's. Food was piping hot and delicious good portions served. J

Been there twice! Brilliant chippy, clean and welcoming, tasty food, doesn't taste cheap, great value and great service.

I pop in every Wednesday for the usual. The lady that serves me is great, she knows exactly what I have and even the time I usually get there. Food is great, my teenager is always happy with the food and doesn't leave a thing.

Was waiting 1h and 30 minutes for food and didn't bring back the fruit shoot what they forgot. Service is terrible as they will leave you hanging on the phone for a wile before you get to order food, Disgrace!

Some of the most disgusting low quality fish I have ever had. Only came here due to good reviews however I have been mislead. Ordered a large fish and chips with curry sauce. Curry sauce and chips were just average standard chips and sauce. The fish was so low quality, tasted old didn't seem fresh, the cod itself had blood spots in it and wasn't that flakey pure white fish I get elsewhere. Definitely a No from me, I should of come back for a refund.

OK I was only taking the piss that ur food is not halal.but pork meat or pig is the most digusting meat for human consumption.

Been getting my food here for a while now and not been to any other chip shops since the staff are always polite there battered chips are amazing there deals are brilliant too and delivery is always quick and on time deffo a 👍 from me

We use these guys quite regularly and very rarely have a problem Always have a laugh with the management and some of the staff as they know we aren't serious people but some of the staff just need to smile more ! Do feel the portion sizes have gotten smaller over the years of using but we tend to just ask for extra sometimes it's done for free some times is a few £ but for the quality of food it's worth it Top class management ! We will be seeing you again soon no doubt as this is the only chippy we will use!

This is the best chippy in the area! I’ve been buying their fish & chips for over 20 years. The food is always fresh and the portions are the perfect size. I really don’t understand the negative reviews as my experience of this shop has always been five star! Cod, chips and mushy peas, you can’t beat it!

When I saw what was being served I had a feeling they would be inedible. I took them home and tried to degrease them with kitchen roll. Two pieces later and a see through tray. Yep disgusting. Was a good place. No effort.

Yeah, I wish I'd waited for Oliver's to open. The mixed meat and chips is £6, same at Olivers but you get a decent portion there. The one I got might as well have been the mini from Classics. This was me giving them a 2nd chance after small portion and bad service last time. Shame on me. Never again Good luck you guys

at the moment i have 2 pending actions on my credit card for this shop and both are not the same as the receipt i have for the one food order ??

We have used this place for over 50 years every week, sadly the food and service is going downhill since delivery service introduced . We actually go to the shop and order to TAKE AWAY, which has now become a joke ( food quality is getting worse , service worse due to being more concerned with phone orders ) , we get home with our takeaway and the staff obviously don't listen to what we asked for . This chippy use to be the BEST for many years but I won't be recommending it any more like we have in the past . Shame .

Best chippy around, we live in Sutton but our local chippys are bad. Been using here for over 30yrs, same owners and never had one single bad meal or experience. Worth going out of our way for best kebab n chips this side of town.

Last evening I ordered haddock and chips, the chips portion was very small and 2 tinned roe and regular chips which turned up in a small polystyrene take away thing. The chips were literally a handful ,smaller than a cone portion. I rang the place and there was no offer a replacement .£17.00 completely not worth the portion size.

Place has gone massively down hill from years back when sagsy was at the health the southern fried chicken was the best and tastiest in the area unfortunately this is not the case anymore I was disappointed and won't be rushing back for SFC again,

I am posting with respect to the service i received as a delivery driver, not tasted their food and not even want to. The customer might like their food but as a delivery driver i received pathetic service. Delivery drivers, either they're on bicycle, motor bike, or car can't even enter their shop. they are advised to stay outside in the cold. I received the order from Uber today. My bad, that i accepted that order of 4 miles, waited outside in cold for 45 minutes. The customer also gave the remarks that i was being late. Not only the customer but the restaurant - Hawthorn fish bar also gave me a dislike. That's another story. In Short, They are the persons who cover their Inefficiencies by blaming the delivery drivers. I will respond more after they give their opinion on this.

Ordered fish tonight should have been cooked to order but fish was cold and not cooked to order batter had gone soggy have been before and been very pleased but disappointed today

Service is friendly and warm. Order was incorrect, extra portion of chips which was rectified without any quibbling. Food tasted great.

A bit late on my review, but just wanted to say this. I placed an order through Uber Eats two weeks ago. One of the items I ordered were the Large Cod and Chips, but when I received my order and unwrapped it, I found that the fish and chips weren't wrapped together like always, but separately, only to discover it was because I'd been given barely any chips, (and when I say barely I mean barely), when I've always received more in orders prior. The chips are meant to be a regular portion, but it wasn't even that. I wouldn't even say it was small. Phoned up to voice my issue, only for the woman on the other end of the phone to say that they were probably just being generous and to put in the notes next time that I want extra chips. Considering how expensive everything is on the menu now, (Large Cod & Chips is now £10, but I don't know if that's just on Uber Eats), you'd think that I'd be getting the same amount as always. It's a shame as I've always ordered from Hawthorn's, but I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Great quality food, always busy, which is a a good sign, but mainly due to Uber Eats orders. The shop is not accessible to me as I use a wheelchair and it has a step, so can't give it 5 stars, but the staff are friendly, and when they see me at the door they ask if I need anything. The uber Eats guy also asked me If I wanted him to fetch me anything from inside, which was appreciated, but it is annoying I can only go with someone else and I can't get anything on my own if it's raining and I'm on my own as I can't get in and im sat in the rain. We buy food from here twice a week and fetch some for our neighbour too, quality is always great, but if you get a new member of staff, you can get smaller than usual portions. Still best chippy round here though

This place is usually on point but I'm disappointed tonight after ordering a large mixed meat and chips, compared to usually it was very very small with alot less chips and meat, was more like a small box, very disappointing indeed, it usually fills me up but I've had to eat something else after tonight, disappointed is a UNDERSTATEMENT, daylight robbery 👎🏽

By far the best fast food chippy!!! The food was delivered on time piping hot, fresh and tasting delicious I 100% recommend to my family and friends.

Please I beg you...save your money and find somewhere else. I ordered 2 mixed meat Kebabs with salad and one mixed meat and a large chips. Donner meat was like charcoal, cleverly twisted to look like a full pitta but was hollow. Chicken meat was non existent and some leftover white cabbage and a chunk of cucumber don't qualify as salad. Chips were OK.

Chips are always fresh, kebab meat is the best n the area as most other chippies seem to be serving kebab meat with fragments of bone in.

Really going downhill use to be the best around. Waiting time ridiculous. Hard pitta bread due to over heating. Ruined meal.

My local chippy. Great food. Chips always taste fresh and not soggy like some of the others in the area. It's the only chippy I will eat from now anywhere else don't taste nowhere near as good. Prices are reasonable and staff are helpfull.

Best chippy in Kingstanding and maybe in Birmingham easily. You can tell they're doing something right when the queues are outside the door on the weekend. We've ordered from here a few times and the food is always piping hot and delicious. The staff are polite and friendly. 5/5

Food hit and miss. I can appreciate they have built a relationship with the locals but in order to grow your business aren't new customers just as important. Chips aren't always the nicest and staff have no problems swearing in front of customers. Service not very professional which is probably where the standard'ish and not stupidly high prices make up for it. I will expect a negative and not so professional response back from the owners judging by the previous responses to the negative reviews. Partners Nan lived round the corner for years and they swore by it, its unfortunate but partner now says its isn't the same.

Really lovely food. All very fresh and hot. Lightly battered fish has a delicate batter. Southern fried chicken breasts are really big and really nicely cooked. Chips were exceptionally good today. We have used Hawthorn Fish Bar for many, many years and wouldn't go anywhere else because we can rely on getting good food at a competitive price. Thanks!

Absolutely great tasting food, love the fried chicken and home made Samosas ordered food few times and it keeps getting better. Lovely staff too, including the one that smiles every once in a while.🤣😏😉

Spectular fishbar, I drive a good distance for it. The food is fresh and tasty. Even after a 15min drive home its still piping hot showing they do all orders along side each other and not one at a time making other food cold. Real professionals in this industry.

Ordered a delivery today on a Saturday evening. After an hour later the Just Eat app said our food was delivered. Our Ring doorbell and hungry family disagreed! So we rang the restaurant. Five minutes on the phone to a hassled woman who finally said "Can you speak to this woman?" before my wife was told that it wasn't their problem and we had to call Just Eat. Shocking customer service. We will not be using this place again. It wasn't just that they didn't deliver it was how rude and dismissive they were

Had an issue with my order through just eat with items missing but the manager called me promptly and was very polite and apologetic and sorted the issue. The food is always good from here so I would recommend it and if you have any issues, speak to management, very professional.
