This was meant to be a highlight eating out family experience!! Sadly it was very much the wrong type of anticipated celebration!! We will not return! The name of this eating out venue is appropriate…. Shack!! Sorry but I have to be honest with you my review!!

Lovely food and generally nice service. One girl with blonde hair just stared at me rudely when I asked politely for ketchup for my daughter and didn't bring it.

We had lunch on Thursday afternoon after having a walk on the beach. Didn’t book a table but there was plenty of space. We had burger and chips, fish and chips, onion rings and two teas, £47 on the bill. I would say the food tastes fresh but price is probably a little on the higher side. Kids and dog friendly - I saw baby high chairs and customer bring their dog in. There is a unisex toilet next to the kitchen.

Absolutely love this place. My favourite for the food and view. Always worth the trip. Remember to leave your car on the sand for as long as possible and you get a free car wash.

Gosh this is so disappointing as we were so looking forward to this dinner. We got seated v quickly. We were given wrong menu and so my daughter given a different meal without checking. We did wonder how a person with allergies might have reacted. Our other dinners were good. We were asked if we wanted coffee/dessert and then the waitress disappeared off and never brought the menu. Eventually we got up and went and paid.

I went back here after a few years of not being here , it was ok, it’s a whole different vibe. The service could have been better, however I appreciate there may have been staffing issues and the staff there were nice , the food was ok. It had the feeling of a greasy spoon by the beach and maybe this is where the market is now as a place you drop into rather than go to. I would not be deterred from going back if I had a walk at the beach and wanted a fish and chip I am not sure tho I would plan to go here .

Our family stopped by for lunch while on vacation. Mother in law said it was the best fish and chips she has had in her 80 odd years. Korean wings were incredible! Craig was a wonderful server.

Harrys Shack does it again .. superb light for moi , & my American clients also rated the food very highly enjoyed . The service was impeccable. Great choice form the menu .. I had the crispy duck taco , but all clients were impressed . Uninterrupted Views of the beach is an added bonus . Keep up the great work .. luv it .

Brilliant service, fantastic food. Despite walking in without a booking after a short wait (at the bar) we were seated inside. We will definitely be back with friends and family. Many thanks for a lovely afternoon.

We had a wonderful meal & experience at Harry’s Shack, Portstewart late yesterday afternoon Wed (21/02/24). The weather outside had turned stormy with a high tide, so no walk on the beach. The staff were extremely helpful & accommodating, when we arrived at their door. Our fish & chips & extras were delicious & tasted really fresh. The Shack had a lovely warm open log fire & a very welcoming & inviting ambience, which was very much appreciated. The meal was very reasonably priced with great service. Highly recommended! Looking forward to a return visit very soon!

We booked for sunday afternoon 4pm. Luckily not overly busy at that time. Great pint of Guinness. We both ordered fish and chips. Really tasty, freshly made , crispy and dry. Definitely eat there again.

I hadn’t been to Harry’s shack in years and I was excited to take my boyfriend there to try it. We were greeted with a very abrupt ‘ you haven’t booked’ from a man with an English accent and so I apologised that we were unaware of the booking policy. This nice younger guy then helped us with the online booking system and apologised for how we were spoken to. When we returned for our booked lunch the man said to us again it’s bookings only so I showed him my booking and it seemed like we were reluctantly seated. We then watched the same man turn people away with the same attitude and say we are fully booked when another group came unannounced and were seated straight away by another waiter. To be honest the atmosphere put us off so much we just left. Two of the other waiters were very nice I just couldn’t believe how this man was speaking to customers. It unfortunately has really put me off returning :(

Accommodating Staff, a varied menu and serene location make this the finest place to eat on the North Coast. Straying from the bland array of food offerings others in the area fall back on. Harry’s Shack is unique and well worth the money.

Unfortunately there was a problem but we were just disparaged. At no time was we asking for anything other than a replacement. This seemed to send the chef into some kind of Gordon Ramsey strop and refused to acknowledge that there was a problem. He refused to take item of the bill. We only paid for what we had. We have eaten all over the world and have never been treated in such a manner. I sincerely hope this place doesn’t rely on the chef to heavily - he will put you out business. Honestly it was only average at best. Good luck.

When we come home we always come back to Harry's Shack for lunch or a little snack. Outstanding food in which I can easily testify is probably the best seafood served in the province. The chowder and the crab were excellent. One star away as the toilets are quite disgusting. Quick and friendly service.

Really nice place to eat. Lovely log fire on, nice music playing in background. Waiter at table pretty quickly with drink and food menus. We ordered chowder and the mussels. Both were fantastic. Nice pint of rockshore to go with mussels. Will definitely be back. Parked on beach which was close by.

So much better than when we visited in June and said we wouldn’t be back!! Today we decided to give it another go.. firstly please keep the waitress that served us today, she was amazing!! The place was so warm and the service was just a complete turn around 200%…food amazing especially the padron peppers and the level of service was honestly just a completely different restaurant experience..we might even go back tomorrow 🥰

The food was great. Super value for two courses. The Korean wings were seriously meaty. Battered fish and chips were top notch, with the lightest batter. Server had a lovely manner and the atmosphere with the fire was really nice. We went at a quiet time on Wednesday evening, so no waiting around but it will be busy at peak times.

Excellent anniversary meal in Harry’s Shack. Exceptional service from the owner & his staff. The food was delicious. Highly recommended. Cosy toasty environment especially with the wood burner. 5 stars!

First visit and we won't be back. Firstly it was freezing! One member of staff tried to keep it going but it was so cold, which wasn't a great start. Mains - steak was very expensive and was very fatty and you could barely see the kale! Other mains were average but would've expected more for what we paid. Dessert - shouldn't have been served! The profiteroles were hard as rocks! Barely any sauce on them! Service- after asking a few times for dessert menu, the waitress slapped down the menus on the table and didn't say anything to us. Also, all staff are dressed in hoodies. I'd normally not have an issue with this but it didn't reflect the prices of the food - would expect a higher level of service.

Lovely staff and really good service but food was disappointing. Nice starters of wings and mussels. Nice Chardonnay wine. Gnocchi was tasty. Burger was burnt and dry. Cod was cooked well but sauce was oily and not nice. Expensive for a less than average meal.

We pulled into town hungry and looking for seafood, so we tried Harry's Shack based on a Google search. Did we hit the jackpot with Harry's Shack! We've been traveling throughout Northern Ireland on a week long holiday and it was easily the best meal we've had on the entire trip! The service was great and the chowder had more fish than broth--absolutely spot on. The mussels were delicious, and even the onion rings were huge and super tasty. It was a fantastic meal!

Enjoyable evening here with my wife - great views and a cosy log burner that kept the chill away. Food was good quality and service attentive and friendly. Thank you.

Disappointed, we're told by a manager that it would be 40mins or more before someone would even take our order. Due to the fact that there were a couple tables in front of us that had booked. Didn't mind waiting but thought 40mins to order was a bit much. We left.

Atmosphere was a disaster.. people from the beach surround the resteraunt .. constantly walking past window to use toilet.. babies crying .. people half dressed ..food was good but I'd spend my money else were due to the constant stream of toilet users.. spoiled what could of been a nice evening

My husband and I attended a wedding at Harry's Shack yesterday. We live in Portstewart and are great fans of this restaurant but this was our first wedding there. The venue is unique in Northern Ireland our friends made their vows to the sound of the sea...it was magical. We toasted with excellent champagne and prosecco. The meal was out of this world sharing starters of chicken wings, fishcakes and polenta fries. All tasty and beautifully prepared. We were allowed to choose our main meal on the day. Chicken supreme pasta, fish and chips or beef . The beef was outstanding...perfect flavour just excellent.. for dessert lemon posset or apple tarte ..gourmet chocolates too. What a beautiful refreshingly different wedding meal which will be remembered for a long time. Service throughout the day was exceptional. Donal and your team you simply did an outstanding job. Certainly one of the best choices in NI for a relaxed intimate wedding on the coast with the best quality food and wine. Many thanks to the happy couple for inviting us and the restaurant for making the magic happen on the day!

We only stopped for a beer and a coffee but enjoyed the fabulous seafront location and the locally brewed beer was great. The food looked good but we didn't have any.

Great service, food and location

Arrived on sunday 24th September trying to get a spot of lunch. We where shocked to be told that it was by booking only to be served when the restaurant was empty. Felt very sorry for young guy on the door as he had to ask the chef if he was aloud to take our table to what the chef replied bookings only.. with businesses struggling you would think places would welcome all customers in to spend.

This cozy restaurant has left the best impression. The atmosphere is chill and cool. The staff are really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about. Food was amazing, I had the mussels which were cooked to perfection and my partner had the Carlingford oysters which he said were succulent and flavorful. We both had the Green castle brill on the bone, it was opaque, flaky, and moist 100% worth it, we will definitely be back.

Fish was perfectly cooked and delicious, this restaurant is situated on the beach and I’d highly recommend

The first time there, we were walking on the beach. Popped in just for a drink. The staff were very helpful and accommodating as it appears mainly a restaurant in the evening.

Restaurant liegt direkt am Strand und man hat einen super Ausblick. Die Speisekarte war sehr gut ausgestattet und man hat wirklich frischen Fisch bekommen. Die Austern waren der Hammer! Bei unsere Rundreise in Irland, haben wir kaum sowas gutes bekommen! Preis-Leistung hat auch gestimmt...wir würden auf alle Fälle dort wieder essen gehen.

We wondered why the Shack, once so famous and highly rated, was no longer listed by Michelin. Sadly after some enjoyable mussels (but no finger bowl) this was an expensive and disappointing meal. An admittedly large plaice was overcooked and tasteless with a bland minimalist...

The stunning vista of the beach and surfy vibes give this eatery almost all of its appeal. The staff are great, the food is rather limited in choice but adequate in quality. At £18 for fish and chips though - that’s more than Rick Steins...

You must visit! The best service we’ve had since before covid. So hard to find a restaurant after covid with happy/helpful staff. I can’t express enough about how much we enjoyed our experience. The staff, amazing. Alcohol selection, spot on (staff having knowledge about it too, a rarity). Food delicious. Absolutely loved it, will definitely be back.

Arrived for lunch at 1pm and were told it’d be a 20 minute wait for food - we were happy with that. We were given a drinks menu but no food menu. Waited 45 minutes for them to take our drinks order, 10 minutes later...

Arrived on offchance they had available seats for us and initially it was ticking all the boxes. Went like this: (cue upbeat background music) Dog friendly - tick Lobster on menu - tick Available seat - tick Good food reviews - tick Cold Guiness on tap - tick Nice atmosphere- tick Warm welcome - tick Beautiful food smells - double tick All looking promising so far! £8 to park (rapid record scratching sound effect)... WT actual F?? Ollocks to that! Didn't stay. National Trust own the building and nearby beach so they can do what they like, but 8 quid on your bill before you've even walked into the restaurant? "But Bob!" I hear you say "stop being so misrable/tight and suck up the £8 like everyone else!" Well I didn't. Went up to Centro for a very uninteresting limp sandwich and a bag of Walkers instead. Moral of the story: stop writing inane waffley reviews and get out more, Bob

Great location, on and overlooking the fabulous Strand beach. Great food and good portions, friendly, accommodating staff, (even while under pressure). Fair price. Free parking for National Trust members. Highly recommended.

Terrible experience after really looking forward to lunch here after reading so many great reviews. Arrived at 1:30pm, seated at 2:15 and didn’t get our food until 3pm! Staff were on the whole inattentive, unhelpful and some downright rude. Weren’t offered any drinks after originally...

Top drawer from start to finish, highlights were the Megrim with mussels and lobster and chips..glad we did not resist temptation and had an apple Tarte tatin each...to die for. Another of many successful visits, fingers crossed for many more.

Our experience at Harry's Shack was top notch. Our host graciously accomodated our family when we showed up without a reservation and provided the BEST surf n turf I have ever had. The service at the outside bar and at our table was warm and friendly and the atmosphere was delightful. I can't wait to go back!

Visited Harry’s Shack on 23 August for lunch with a long time friend. We wanted to get together forks catch up following recuperation from elective surgery and I was happy to drive the 60 miles to enjoy their fish and chips in a magnificent location...

This restaurant went above and beyond normal service we had a beautiful meal with my husband and two young kids under 6. Both the lobster and the steak main were amazing. When we left the restaurant we unfortunately locked our keys in the car parked on the beach. The staff accomdated us during a busy time with a table and gave my children hot choc and a v stressed mother a glass of wine. Amazing restaurant with wonderful compassionate staff especially Anna who constantly checked in during a stressful situation. Nous avons mangé dans ce resto au bord de la plage récemment. Le parking est gratuit pour les clients du restaurant. Le homard était délicieux, les moules et le fish and chips également. Nous ne regrettons vraiment pas notre choix. Le personnel était très sympathique.

An amazing setting and great food. Service very friendly and quick. Separate bar for drinks. Food delicious. Perfect way to end a day at the beach.

Tried to do a walk in reso with a baby. Got there early enough not even 1/3rd of the tables were filled. Was told others had reservations coming up in 30+ mins, I told them we were happy to grab something quick off the appetizers list and leave in less then 30 mins. Was still told the kitchen couldn't accommodate. Looked like a cool place by the beach, to bad we will never find out.

Lovely lunch today- my first visit. Friendly helpful staff and very tasty food - properly hot mustard dip for the steak sandwich! Citra IPA brewed in Portrush an excellent accompaniment to this. Hotter plates would have been good as it cooled down quite quickly. Would I go back? Absolutely! //Just realised i didn't post this before we visited again this weekend! My view still stands. The burger was delicious and a pint of Barmouth lager was very tasty. It was great again!

Amazing food and wonderful friendly and considerate service - bar staff also had great banter! Fabulous fish & chips with homemade tartare sauce & the best mushy peas I have ever tasted! Mussels were delicious with an unusual, rich creamy leek & chorizo sauce! Yummm

Excellent fish and seafood, with own brand beers to pair. The prices are a bit on the high side but the location is very nice and the food is *chef's kiss*. Make sure to book a table as it is very busy.

Although we arrived just after lunch, the staff were very helpful and after a walk along the strand we had an amazing meal at the start of the evening service. The food was stunning (will try to recreate the amazing mussels at home!) and the service professional and charming, despite the fact it got very busy very quickly. Well worth the trip from the Netherlands!

Just had a delicious lunch here. All three of us throughly enjoyed our food - crab claws, langoustines, spicy chicken wings, fish and chips, lobster, lemon posset and tart tatin. So good! The young servers were attentive and friendly. Looking forward to returning soon!

e mailed at the weekend to see if they would be open in these hard times had very good reply would be open and I would be looked after by Sam in the kiosk today Wed 2nd December. 10 minutes fabulous fish chips mushy peas tartar sauce can't be bettered sat and ate it while watching fabulous waves on the beach.

We've supported this business on several occasions over the COVID-19 restrictions. Initially the fish and chips were fab - crispy batter, crunchy chips. We noted the last time that portion sizes had shrunk, but the quality was good, so we continued to support. Gave it another try today - small portion and half raw chips - very disappointing for £48.

Hampered severely by Covid regulations there carry out only service. We had tray bakes & tea late morning - welcome after a walk from Portstewart. Good food in the circumstances but the real winner is the beach side location.
