This pub has a bit of everything. A huge display of beers and spirits from all over the places , a wide selection on their menu . Very spacious , 2 floors and a beer garden . No carpets on the floor , but wood instead and an amazing decoration . It used to be a printing business and a bank as well . On the basement there was the safe . Nice vibes , very friendly staff and easily spoiled by choice . I would recommend my friends Harrild and Sons for an alternative .

Came back to this fine establishment after a wonderful visit a few months back. And it did not disappoint. We had a great lunch. Top service again and the new dishes we tried were delicious. Had the Lamb burger and it was totally the best burger I have ever had. Will certainly be returning as soon as we can. Keep up the good work! Our favourite bar in the city by far!

Came here for lunch with some work colleagues and we really enjoyed out visit. We had the chicken and mushroom pie of the specials and it was delicious. They have a great selection of beers and a very friendly and attentive team.

Absolutely love this place, really friendly team, excellent nibbles and Dylan is a fantastic host. They looked after everything from booking to table and we all left happy.

Our wedding took place in August 2022, and after some careful thought, we think it is right that we leave a review of our big day at Harrild & Sons so that no other couples go through the same disappointment and frustration that we experienced. We selected H&S due to their brilliant online reviews, so when it was announced that the venue changed hands at the start of 2022, we had immediate concerns that we would not receive the amazing pub wedding we envisaged. It turned out that we were correct to have these concerns, and unfortunately for us they really showed through on our big day. Although our initial agreement with the venue was honoured, due to staff changes and miss communication, we did not receive the same top tier management that other reviewers of this venue have reported. We were assigned a wedding manager which made us feel at ease, but it seemed that all our conversations with them leading up to the day were absolutely pointless. The errors during our day are plentiful, with the most major listed as follows - - No experienced wedding manager present on the day. We hadn’t met the person that was assigned on the day before and they had clearly not managed many/any weddings previously. - Our welcome drinks were not served to guests, instead, a bottle of gin, bucket of ice and some tonic bottles were placed at the back of the room. We were having our couples photoshoot at the time so were not there to put things straight, guests bought their own drinks instead. - Although communicated, staff did not know about our £2k bar tab and charged drinks to guests until we realised what was happening. They also did not put out the sign we had made to alert guests on which drinks were on the tab. - Our wedding cake was not served to guests and we took it all home with us. Complete waste of money. - During our initial meeting we were told that fairy lights were wrapped around the pillars for all weddings, but these were not done. We found out after the fact that it was for us to sort ourselves but this was never communicated. - The selected wine from our tasting was not available on the day, we had to taste and select wines when we arrived at our wedding. - Food was completely different in quality than we tried at the tasting. The beef (that nearly everyone had) was tough and had not been cooked for long enough. It was hugely embarrassing as we had raved to guests about how good the beef dish was, there were many plates of uneaten food. - When we requested to see the itemised receipt against our tab, we found that many drinks had been costed wrong, it was completely inaccurate towards the charges/services agreed. - Security agreed for the night did not turn up and random punters came in several times during the night. - Doombar was ordered in specifically for the father of the groom, but it was not available even after double checking it would be two days prior to the wedding. - Camden Hells was off after 2.5hrs of us being at the venue. - The wrong table plan was used. I hope no one experiences this level of extensive issues during their wedding. We were expecting a couple of things to go wrong, but never anything to this scale. It honestly felt like staff hadn’t handled a wedding before, it was shocking. Thankfully, during the day we were in such a giddy, overwhelmingly happy state of mind, we forced all of these issues away from heavily affecting our experience at the time. However, upon reflection, we feel so hurt and hugely disappointed, especially that we had to fight so hard to receive any goodwill and decent customer service from the venue. Upon our initial complaint, we were completely gaslit by the wedding manager, which was completely unacceptable. After two months of emails back and forth with management we received a small amount of refund which helped ease a bit of bad feeling, but I hope making others aware of our experience will give some further closure. Wanted to revisit and relive our son’s wedding reception wedding one year later. Fabulous location and venue this year for food, drink and football. Super attentive staff and the mulled wine was a lovely touch too!

Went here with a few friends and had a great time. The staff are all welcoming and do a delicious range of cocktails. I had the pork collar which was absolutely stunning, much better quality than you can get from other pubs in the area! The manager Dylan showed us around their hidden bar downstairs which is so cool I’ve hired it out for my upcoming birthday! Couldn’t recommend this place more!

Have been a few times, both with friends and my partner. Great atmosphere and friendly service. The Plant-based burger is exceptional!!!

Came here a few times over the past few days and had a lovely time. This is surely my new local. Proper city pub. Now serving ale again. The ale I had was an absolutely perfect way to end the day for me and my colleagues. Been coming here a while. Getting better and better, and great to see a best bitter on finally!

Great food and service! What a change since before lockdown, bar staff and management were so friendly and had a nice knowledge of cocktails! Avoid if you just want a quiet environment, although the DJ made the atmosphere 10x better! Definitely will return soon and recommend.

Quite simply, staff were rude - as we were told to go downstairs to our table , the downstairs staff didn’t acknowledge us in a friendly manner. Every answer was met in a rude and disrespectful tone. Pre ordered drinks a few days in advance which were not put through. Downstairs bar is dingy, hot and crowded. Although you are given an area, they pack it with walk-ins so what’s the point in booking an area. Might as well grab a drink and stand outside. We left very soon and went straight to The Fable , up the road, which had a brilliant atmosphere and very welcoming staff thankfully allowed us to end our night on a high.

Table for 12 booked through their site for my 40th birthday. Needed all the seats. Booking ref DMN-16779169251 7/04/2022. Only 8 seats provided on 2 separate tables of 4 which we had to put together. Bar staff said that’s all we are getting super rude. We will not be going back, total shambles of disorganisation. Will complain to design by night also….

After a bit of a horror show at a nearby bar I met some friends here and it fully restored the day. Staff are so pleasant and seem to enjoy working there a lot. Great range of drinks and ales. I’ll definitely be returning and telling my office friends to visit x

My son and his beautiful bride finally got to hold their wedding reception here last weekend and the venue, the staff and the food were absolutely exceptional! All of the guests were blown away by the incredible dishes, and the bar staff went out of their way to ensure we had a night to remember. Fantastic!

Me and my husband went here after our drinks was told i cannot pay with cash to which i told her thats all i have so she said we font take cash i will have to go speak to my manager. To which i walked in the bar left the cash on the bar to which i said cash is king. I sent an email to them and a review on there site to which i was told this is an out of date quote. How dare they not except cash there is plenty of people who do not use cards. This is discrimination I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN RUDE

Dropped in here after work and despite all the negativity from every other bar we’d been in, surrounding the covid compliance, these guys were really great about managing the new procedures and made it feel like we weren’t ‘back at school’ . The staff were chatty, informative & funny and the cocktails were next level . In tough times, this is a great bar that allows you to forget the micro management we are all currently under while keeping you safe 5/5 👍🏻

Meeting a colleague for a lunchtime business meeting, this was quite literally next door. It is in the style of a traditional London boozer and it was lively and atmospheric. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was above average for a pub. It was never too noisy so we couldn't hear ourselves. Recommended

Would recommend the Chicken Satay salad, also had the steak and chips special. Good food, good atmosphere and we will be back

Ligeramente extraño.En el lado positivo, el entrante - fui por el huevo escocés fue muy bueno. El plato principal, que era la ensalada de pollo Satay nuevamente, era muy bueno, pero como comimos nuestros entrantes primero, estaba un poco frío cuando llegué. La calificación que he dado es para la comida. El servicio fue lento. Volvería otra vez, sí, pero solo si no estuviera tratando de acomodar las cosas en el horario de la hora del almuerzo.

Mi bisabuelo 5 veces comenzó el negocio de impresoras Harrild & Sons. Finalmente pude visitar desde Francia, donde vivo y no me decepcionó. Un lugar muy atmosférico e histórico y muy popular. La comida era excelente y el personal no podría haber sido más servicial. Espero volver algún día y recomiendo encarecidamente esta hostelería, una mezcla comprensiva de épocas pasadas y presentes. ¡Soberbio!

Cooler Pub, gute Gin Selection, im oberen Stockwerk laute Musik und im Keller kann man sich auch unterhalten. Die Burger waren gut.

Invited to a private party here, never been before. It is big and busy inside, Rated very good because the staff were friendly and helpful (getting drinks from other bar was no trouble) and you felt you were getting personalized service. Snacks being served were OK but not outstanding

Pleasant place. Service is very good, and drinks and food are great quality. Speakers are quite loud, so can be difficult to talk if you're right next to it! Had a nice time overall!

Celebramos nuestra boda celebraciones aquí en octubre de 2017. El personal era fantástico en caso de ayudarnos a planear la fiesta y coordinado con el chef para crear una medida buffet hizo para nosotros. Absolutamente todo en la noche fue fantástico. El lugar en sí es increíble y realmente no presta a este tipo de partidos. Ladrillos y cobre expuesto encantador tuberías para luces, etc, alguna diversión y arte interesantes en las paredes y un precioso bar de cócteles de abajo. Todo era establecer, bebidas de bienvenida se echaban y esperando a nuestros huéspedes y el servicio fue fantástico durante toda la noche.

A menos de 5 minutos de donde yo trabajo, así que seguramente aquí una vez o entrar dos veces al mes, generalmente para el almuerzo.

Yo estaba tramando un tour de pubs de Londres para más tarde el sábado. No es un encantador patio interior. Uno de los ladrillos y metal más moderno estilo. Suficiente, no era grande. Una gama de asientos pero, de alguna manera, nos pareció que estaba más para la minería que beber. El barman era eficiente y funcional en lugar de encanto. El 'roaming' llevaba un aire personal totalmente timidez a menos que comer, miedo de estar apoyando nuestra fuera de lugar. Una pinta de cerveza era internacional 6 plus, es agradable, pero yo sólo tenía uno. Tengo que decir que mi esposa se sintió tan impresionado que rechazaron tener cualquier bebida. Absolute sesh on the cards, did not disappoint. They have la chouffe on tap if you ever liked beer, you would know this a rarity in london.Great beer we got very drunk on 9% beers, as i said absolute sesh for the kings.

Like many larger places, Harrild & Sons can be a little noisy. Menu is interesting and the cocktails plentiful.

Must have the Scotch egg and the burger. This place is spacious which means you could eat and relax (stretch your arms and stomach after meal) that is rare in London. Reservation recommended

I have been to Harrild and sons on a number of occasions and over the past few years. While it has always been pleasant, recently the service has been terrible and so I don't think I or my colleagues will visit again until it improves. A great shame.

Very easy to find, a 5 min walk from Blackfriars station, Harrild and Sons is a wonderful location to have a quiet and delightfully tasty dinner as we discovered. The setting is surrounded by wood and is very welcoming and charming.To begin our dinner, we ordered a range of delicious starters: some crispy korean chicken with a hot sauce and peanuts, cauliflowers pakoras with a subtle mango chutney and some grilled spring onions wrapped in smoked bacon. Everything was carefully prepared in order to make us even more curious (and hungry) of what came next!A delightful seabass cooked on a bed of lentils with creamed mussels and braised fennels with a subtle taste of white wine for the lady as for me a porkbelly with apple sauce and mash, charred spinach with cider & grain mustard gravy. This whole dinner was accompanied with great french wine and a very hospitable waitress! After our taste buds were been satisfyingly overwhelmed, we enjoyed a last drink with a cigarette on the terrace behind the restaurant. There's also another intimate bar downstairs for cocktails before settling to eat, or after, just so you know!The experience of a simple dinner at Harrild and Sons was not what you encounter in a normal pub. The whole was clearly many levels above, thanks to the chef and team dedication!We warmly recommend this really cool place and we'll come back with great pleasure and curiosity! Hint: the homemade gin tonic is not be missed at any reason!

It's always busy here in the evenings, which I will take as a good sign - despite the noise, from patrons and music, and the prices, which nearly gave my friend from Leeds a heart attack (though it is London and it does depend what you choose!) A very good selection of beers indeed, with four cask ales as well as a selection of well-chosen draft craft beers, and plenty more in bottles besides, and wine and everything else you would expect. Lovely old Victorian building too.It may be a young person's bar, but I like it and keep coming back, so it's definitely doing something right.Cheers!

This place is not quit full-on gastropub, but somewhat better than chain-type pubs. The dining room is big and airy and a comfortable place to be. Service is good and my burger was fine, although not spectacular.

Often come here due to its location next to the office. Offers a wide range of beers and ales although none of the 'usual' largers you'll find at many pubs. Average london prices, staff are very friendly and attentive :-)

Great local haunt with a fantastic range of beers, worth a visit if you work locally and are looking for a place with more than just the standard range of lagers on tap. Also good for lunch - the burger is fantastic and if you're after a healthier option try the salmon salad.

One of the best pubs in the area, where I have always had excellent food. Lovely ambience and décor and, especially, very good service.

We had a short fare well drink for a colleague of ours at the back of the bar. The service was fine and the atmosphere is good. A lot of people from the area go there for a drink after work. It is absolutely fine to go there. A good mix of guests.

I attended an evening event in the downstairs bar. Whilst crowded the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. My only criticism is that they had to bring the Ale from upstairs. The music was also a bit loud, which made talking difficult but that's probably my old age coming through!The canapés were excellent and certainly hit the spot.

Visited here with a few work colleagues last night & service was outstanding. As visitors to the city & our first time at the bar we allowed our waiter to pick surprise cocktails which didn't disappoint. He knew his stuff & tailored our drinks to suit our favourite spirits / flavours / mood. Service was quite slow, but the drinks made up for it when they arrived. Decor & atmosphere v.cool & relaxed - we will defo be back :)

Came with a few friends for after work drinks. Staff were friendly. Service was a little slow, looks like they could have done with one more bartender. However the barman that served us made a great old fashioned so it was worth the wait. He also moved us to a table later in the night when one opened up which was great. Despite the music choice being really good, the DJ really needed to turn it down. For a venue that's so nicely kitted out to have some drinks and a chat with friends, it was ruined by the fact we had to shout into each other's ears all night. Couldn't hear myself think. Turn the music down a bit, and it would be a 5 from me. It's a bar where everyone was in groups sitting an chatting (well trying to). So no need to play music like it was a nightclub

Have been to 5CC a few times before, and have been happy with the service and selection of drinks however my last visit was somewhat poor.I visited with a group of friends who were first timers at the bar and I could not have been more embarrassed after bragging about the place a lot the last few months. Reduced and limited menu from the last time i visited. Even off menu drinks were not as expected and seemed rushed . Even the staff were rude and unhelpful . Really has made me second guess about revisiting in the future.

Went here for a friend's leaving drinks.Cocktails were really yum!! Atmosphere was great!! Usual price for London (£11/15 a cocktail)?We were downstairs and service was ridiculously slow!! The staff should spend less times chatting up girls (I am female)?and more time being aware off all the people waiting. Overall really enjoyed the evening

I had a really good meal here with an ex-work colleague again recently, having been half a dozen times in the past. Lunch is good hearty fare, I had a very tender rib-eye steak and my friend had the chicken and leek pie - he certainly agrees about the "crisp indulgent pastry"! With starters, a couple of pints and a bottle of wine the meal came to about £80, not a bargain but not bad for the City. There is also a good selection of spirits which we have enjoyed in the past! I can only give this a 4 because, as others have mentioned, service is rather slow, not a good thing for city workers.

In homage to the early 19th century printing pioneer, Robert Harrild, Harrild and Sons is from the new-made-to-look-old school with a very industrial feel – copper pipes, filament bulbs, wood, lots of wood, and some drawings of old printing machinery adorning the menu for good measure. The vibe is very laidback and trendy, making it an ideal place for after-work drinks or a relaxed working lunch (note the bar is closed at weekends). The menu is somewhat unusual – Seafood seems to be their “thing”, backed up with a ‘mains’ section of only 4 options (including beef tartare and eggs benedict??), ‘grills’, ‘salads’ and ‘daily specials’ (if you want fish and chips, go on a Friday). I was originally a little sceptical, but went for the chicken, mushroom and leek pie with mash, while my colleague had the beef burger and chips. The wait was a little on the long side (for a strict lunch “hour” at least), about 25 minutes, but once my pie arrived, I suddenly didn’t care if I was a little bit late back to work! I’m willing to overlook the presentation of my pie (I’m sure unnecessarily involving a pie dish, a wooden board, a separate bowl for the mash, itself on another ridiculously large plate…) because it was delicious – crisp indulgent pastry, steaming plentiful filling and creamy mash. The burger looked good too and came with a massive bucket of skinny fries – two main meals and two diet cokes £31 – at the slightly higher end of reasonable for the area, but in this case you get what you pay for. Well worth a visit.

I've been a few times now. There's a great selection of beers from pretty much every category you can imagine and the staff seems reasonably knowledgable, though can be a bit hit and miss. However, they forget the basics - dark beers, such as porters/stouts, and ales should not be served chilled! As a specialist beer bar you would think they'd know this. Maybe it's catering to popular taste, I don't know...Otherwise nice atmosphere, except the music is TOO LOUD.

Called into this place on a Friday night as it was ideally located between our hotel & the restaurant we planned to eat in.Great staff, great selection of beer, great atmosphere.Will defiantly be coming back.Only downside was that they do not open at the weekends, which would have seen us back on Saturday night :(

We ate at 5cc downstairs, but the food was from Harrild and Sons. We both had the hanger steaks, which comes with thick chips (french fries), and delicious onion strings. The meal was lovely and plentiful. (5cc is a must!)

We visit Harrild & Sons often after work, in an area surrounded by bars. This is mainly due to the fact they supply me with a steady stream of Diplomatico Rum (One of the only places around here I've found to serve it). And the staff are friendly. On a Thursday night more staff may be required at times. But Nadia shines as a friendly helpful waitress.Although FYI Harrild's hate the awning over the smoking area! I get why when its cold, but NO during the summer.

I previously reviewed Harrild and Sons and mentioned its main problem is not knowing what kind of place it should be. Having returned with a few friends from work, I'm reconsidering my review.Harrild and Sons is utterly dreadful.They have a fairly good beer list yet hire staff with no clue about beer. Some don't even understand what they are looking for in the beer fridges and they are nowhere near capable of making a recommendation.The music needs sorted. Having to shout a conversation is not good in any way. Reserve that nonsense for night clubs and let pubs be somewhere you can have a chat with friends.Avoid.

A group of 6 visited for lunch today. We ordered at midday on the dot and were told a fridge had broken down in the kitchen so there was no lobster or oysters.We decided to eat anyway and ordered liver, 3 steaks, a pulled pork and one other course I forget. At this point the bar was EMPTY.45 minutes later our food arrived, after us having to witness 3 tables that came in after us being served with no apology from our waitress. When I enquired where our food was I was told it was a "complicated order" and the other tables had ordered sandwiches but we could see this wasn't true.When we finished our meal and asked to see the manager he apparently couldn't be bothered to walk upstairs and see us as he was too occupied phoning a fridge supplier.I asked for our drinks to be taken off the meal, which first of all we were told couldn't be done, only to then find when the bill arrived it had been done(!?). They offered a free drink but by this time we were very late for getting back to the office, so paid and left.The sad thing is the food was good, but the total lack of apology for the poor kitchen service and the fact the manager declined to speak to us was very disappointing and wouldn't encourage us to make a repeat visit.Oh and last but not least it was freezing...perhaps the fridge wasn't broken after all!

Stylish place if not a little dark. Very good selection of unusual beers and lagers. Gets pretty busy like most City bars. Good atmosphere.

A nice if a little dark pub with a good selection of beers. A nice menu with prices from about £10-28, mostly steaks (the hangar steak was very nice) and a decent sea food selection. Oysters featuring prominently and served a number of ways including my favourite; Rockefeller.I can also recommend the tobacco onions and the beef dripping chips!

Let's start with the positives:+ The beer selection in here is very good. A cracking borrow selection, especially IPAs, and a reasonable tap list.+ The bar staff are generally fast so there isn't much waiting around.Now...- The music is far too loud. This bar is popular for a drink after work. Who wants to have to shout a conversation at each other? Turn the music down and it will be a far more pleasant place.- The location means there is a high chance of being near a bunch of city boys. The ones who are SO IMPORTANT THEY HAVE TO SHOUT THE LOUDEST. Urgh.It seems the owner of Harrild and Sons doesn't really know what type of place it should be. Even by making it a place for comfortable chat, it would be far better. Otherwise, don't go unless you want to shout.

i was there for an evening and my bag , laptop and all moveable merchandise was stolen. Staff tried to assist in a small way but did not seem too bothered. Another lady had items stolen and I would strongly encourage you keep an eye on possessions here - it is a hostile atmosphere !!

I have come here several times on account of my work being quite close. Most recently, I booked a table for 8 of us to celebrate a birthday in the 5cc restaurant/cocktail bar downstairs. The ambiance is very appropriate for the theme - steam punk with a large list of pretty decent cocktails and a huge whisky menu which was mightily impressive. The food was better than average for London pubs - it is the same food that they serve upstairs in the often very crowded and noisy bar and includes great salads and an excellent Angus beef steak burger (definitely preferable to the ordinary cheese burger). Highly recommended.

The decor in the basebar bar is very cool and the cocktails were amazing! Very friendly staff and a really good vibe - highly recommended if you're in the Farringdon area looking for some after-work drinks!

This place is, unsurprisingly given the location, full of financial services people in the evenings. The upstairs bar is pretty grand, but noisy because of its size. There is a big central bar where brisk bartenders provide good service. The beer selection is generally very, very good. If there isn't something you fancy on tap, the bottle list is excellent.The downstairs cocktail bar is a dimly-lit classy joint with an excellent whiskey/whisky menu. Both parts of Harrild and Sons come recommended. The only outside space is in the courtyard on the inside of the building. You are allowed to smoke there.They're open until way late on Thursdays and Fridays, but shut on Sundays and Mondays, again, because of the location.

NB there is a pub upstairs with a restaurant and a cocktail bar downstairs too. This is what you would call a Pub Royale. Its a pub but with style on top made to look old in a former printing-press manufacturer in keeping with the history of the area. As soon as you walk in you will like the high ceiling and spaciousness. Then you have the small matter of the menu which has some classic dishes but then you have a whole range of modern items from cool European to soul food to oysters to lobsters and what not.They also have a really good selection of beers, spirits and ciders if that sort of thing takes your fancy. For me they had an excellent non alcoholic beer which is a great alternative for drivers. Try some of the more unusual dishes on the menu for a change, I had the pulled pork on a jonhy cake and it was actually a very nice change.

This has become a common after work spot for me and my colleagues. They have a great selection of beers upstairs, including Augustiner (a Munich lager) and a variety of Belgian beers. There's also a good selection of whiskeys - bourbon, scotch, and even some Japanese whiskeys like Hibiki. It's generally full, but not overly crowded - it's definitely a bit of the London financial crowd, and I feel like I'm always a little underdressed by comparison, but the staff is very friendly and unpretentious.Downstairs is more of a cocktail bar, with a large variety of well-made cocktails and even more whiskeys. It's a completely different atmosphere and feel - much more intimate and quiet, with a private room in the back that's available for groups.In fact, the one weird thing about this place is that the downstairs is so different from the upstairs - they are fine on most nights with going back and forth between them, but on busy nights, they want the beer crowd to stay upstairs and the cocktail crowd down (I guess they are technically two different venues owned by the same people).I've also had lunch here and it's good. I had the schnitzel, and my colleagues had the burgers. Everything was great, if a little on the expensive side (welcome to central London!)
