Great fish, freshly cooked to order. Nice and calm place with no noisy music which is an added bonus. Very clean place.

Delicious fish and chips with a cosy and clean restaurant upstairs that overlooks the square. Curry sauce was very good. Cod beautifully cooked. Quite quiet and maybe some music in the restaurant would be a nice idea.

Came in on off chance before an evening out and have to say both fish and chips were lovely! The batter was light and crispy, not greasy at all. Service was quick too, would recommend

The fish isn't covered in fresh batter, its comes from the freezer all ready coated. I found it swimming in grease. I wouldn't use them again.

Me and hubby had lunch Friday , cod chips pea fritter and a chicken and chips with mushy peas , fresh crispy batter , chips cooked perfectly, tasty pea fritter , chicken crispy skin and chicken moist and tasty , all piping hot recommend and good size portions

Rude staff. Said they were closed when I arrived at 7pm but advertised opening hours say it's open until 8pm and he was still serving other customers. So rude and abrupt.

It's not worth the detour, the burgers are not great, they lack taste, the ground meat is of very poor quality and the chicken steak is tasteless meat! ok, the price is not high..but too expensive for that.

Chips was too salt made me not want to eat them the service was poor the guy that served me was verry disrespectful and messed up my order when I asked for 2 curry sauces

To slow and the chips were cold , will not be returning

Very slow service, I say this as I've been in the bussines for thirteen years and was mobile and could turn out close to two hundred portions in an hour, if someone just wants chips use to serve them straight away as it only takes minutes. When we did finally get the chips they were just virtually cold. Will not be using again.

Amazing chips, functional service. Not the place for a chatty Cathy's or small talk lovers. Everything seems to be cooked to order so prepare to wait. No curry sauce available on a Weekend visit, sacrilege.

Worst experience. Rude lady serving. We sat in restaurant and asked for water she looked at us and shrug her shoulders and as she went down the stairs she said loudly ‘I don’t speak English’ that’s fine but the rudeness was shocking!!!

Terrible ...Don't go.....Very rude waitress. We asked for water and she gave us a disconcerting look and as she walked down stairs shouted back at us and said that she did not speak English! Not real potatoes, chips, frozen. Asked for food of the menu nothing available. Had paid the extra to eat in the restaurant ,left in 5 mins. Shocking service

My mother had battered sausage and chips. She is (boring) with food. But we both enjoyed it very much Cod was fresh, not too greasy, and the chips were amazing The whole meal was very moreish I've been a.qyalified chef for 7 years, All I can say is that it was supper duper ! Terrible! Fish cake was stale staff was rude and couldn’t understand my order. Also missing drinks from meal deal and apparently had no bread rolls for a chip butty but could order a burger ?

It has been many years since I last visited Stoby's. The menu back then was more varied and included the deal of fish and chips and mushy peas, bread and butter and a mug of tea. The current menu has everything fish and chip shop/restaurants have. Now there are no waitresses to take your order, you have to order at the counter and go upstairs to find a table, food is brought to your table. No smiles, foreign staff who dont know basic restaurant language like tartare sauce.. Food was good. Disappointing lack of table service in a Cathedral city.

Fish and Chips is best not in elegant restaurants but in places where policemen and bus drivers eat. It was perfect here and the large fries were great too. I think it was £27 for 2 people for all the food and drinks 😉 I highly recommend it. It was obvious that it was good because many locals took it away. I'm attaching a screenshot from my phone.

Glad stoby's has stayed open in Salisbury, decent fish and chips, shop is quite small and cramped but can't be helped.

Lovely fish and chips, served on a disposable plate, can we have a china plate please. Not as busy as they used to be in the restaurant on a Friday lunchtime, but don't let this put you off, great food.

Quite some time since we last had F&C at Stoby's. So glad we did as the fish was outstanding in both quality and cooking. Prices have gone up so a few more chips would have been welcome. Nevertheless, quality food, friendly service all deserving of 5* rating.

They are the best takeaway around. I'm a fussy eater and I love this place! Highly recommend.

The Asian women serving was so rude. We asked if we could eat in. She rolled her eyes and said £1 extra for each person. This wasnt a problem for us , but her attitude was. If we wasnt so hungry we would have left. Served on paper plates and literally food chucked down in front of us. No communication or hospitality. Fish was nice , some Bones found though.. but because of this women wouldn't return again. Shes definitely in the wrong trade

Small but nice. We felt comfortable and we enjoyed our food. A little tip: 1 portion of fish and chips is easily enough for 2 people.

Lovely plate of fish and chips had in the cafe, order downstairs and it's bought up. Same price to eat in as to takeaway. My major complaint is that disposable plates and bowls are used for the cafe upstairs which I'm sure isn't cost effective or good for the environment. Prices reasonable for location.

There has been a change of atmosphere in the last couple years. There used to be table service last year and before that.

Chips were hot and tasty; however, this didn't make up for the bad attitude of the lady serving us. I lost count of the amount of times she rolled her eyes when she was asked a few simple questions, and wasn't able to crack a smile at any point. Awful customer service. I think the business has been taken over since the last time we visited Salisbury and I don't think we'll be back after our recent experience!

After waiting to order, then waiting 40 minutes to be served I was handed my order and some coins with “We’ve run out info fish cakes” Having then walked back I found that a chicken burger is a lukewarm dry piece of chicken in a roll, as opposed to the menu claiming that it’s served with lettuce & mayonnaise Then returning & informing them that I’m not eating eat and am not waiting, I’m handed back some more coins The order was: Fish cake & medium chips Cod & medium chips Chicken burger Small chips £22 original order £1.70 back for the fish cake, £4.20 back for the chicken

The store uses fresh cod. It is not frozen. It tastes very good. The French fries are also delicious.

This is the best fish and chip shop in Salisbury. We had 2 lovely takeaway cod and chips last night and they were perfect in every way - fresh, and freshly cooked, fish with a crispy batter and lovely chips. Ethan was very friendly and helpful, letting us put on our own salt and vinegar after everything was wrapped up.

Did not have any chips, only do chips when they get more then 3 people in shop. Very poor place. 👎

If you like massively overpriced, bland food with an attitude when they inevitable get the order wrong (2 orders had to be corrected while we were waiting), then this is the place. Will not be going back again, shame as they were excellent under the last owners.

I had an amazing lunch with the wife, both pleased with the food.

Lacking basic human decency. My mum went in to get a takeaway and asked if she could use the toilet as she was desperate. They then asked her to show them the receipt to see how much she had spent there and was told she couldn't use the toilet because she hadn't spend enough! Unbelievable. Food was mediocre at best.

Siempre insisto en comer pescado y patatas fritas de aquí cuando estoy en Salisbury, siempre es delicioso. Es bueno ver que los Harlees se están tomando en serio la situación actual, no se puede comer y llevar solo, entrar por un extremo y luego salir por el otro extremo de la tienda.Está cocinado fresco y vale la pena esperar, las patatas fritas estaban crujientes por fuera y esponjosas por dentro, como deberían ser, es bueno ver que no están usando patatas fritas congeladas también. Yo comí bacalao y mi compañero abadejo, así que no pudimos resistirnos a tener la mitad de cada uno cuando abrimos el pescado. La masa es ligera y se derrite en la boca y el pescado es fresco y sabe delicioso.Es bueno que podamos depender de la calidad aquí, como siempre, volveré.

Chose to eat in and would not advise this again- veggie burger was £6 and a small bowl of chips were £3. Would be happy to pay these prices if the quality was good enough but was nowhere near in this case. Much better value taking food away.

We've been coming here for years on our visits to Salisbury from Kent and the fish and chips here had always been good, but today I think I've had the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. We had plaice, and the fish itself was lovely, the batter was crispy and the chips were very nice too. Great service, quick and with a smile and friendly chat. Highly recommended - we'll be back in the Spring....

Visited harlees today for my grandads 80th birthday and had a wonderful lunch! The place was busy, but handled extremely well by staff and the service was fantastic. Our food was served in great time and tasted beautiful. With everything coming out hot too. I could not fault the staff, who were excellent and had good fun with us as we were there celebrating a birthday.

Good fish, chips were a little soggy. Would visit again but not hurrying back. Might try sit down next time.

Attended for a lunch with friends. Appalled to here the ‘supervisor’ tell the staff ‘do things right or work somewhere else’ this was in front of a restaurant full of people. I’d defiantly not return because of this.

Encontramos este lugar en la plaza del pueblo. Comimos arriba en el restaurante que ya estaba ocupado. Los menús eran variados para una tienda de pescado y patatas fritas y el servicio fue rápido. La comida fue excelente. Ambos tuvimos el pequeño bacalao y patatas fritas que era adecuado para la hora del almuerzo. La masa estaba crujiente y había muchos peces. Las patatas fritas eran las mejores que había tenido en mucho tiempo.El personal era realmente y alegre. Definitivamente iría allí de nuevo.

May I start by saying your downstairs fish shop staff are polite and friendly but I can not extend this to your two upstairs servers. Arrived to a mostly empty restaurant but then had to wait nearly 20 minutes for a waitrose to finally slump over (after holding a very lengthy loud conversation with her co worker about things that diners clearly do not want to hear about) to serve us. This was after she had served others and clearly forgotten all about us. Your food is , as always very good but may I suggest more training for your upstairs staff in social etticet around your customers.

Nach einem Besuch in Stonehenge und einem ausgedehnten Rundgang durch die Altstadt von Salisbury hatte der Hunger nach einer mehr als reichlichen Portion Fish&Chips; keine Chance mehr. Es war richtig lecker, top Preis/Leistungsverhältnis und freundliches Personal. Nur zu empfehlen!

We had a craving for fish and chips and found this place right in the centre by the market. Small but very busy as Saturday afternoon. The Fab two playing live Beatles music outside were great. Everything was running smoothly until I noticed three quarters of my battered sausage missing. It was fabulous just how a battered sausage should be. Hmmmmm..We will drive back to Salisbury soon and visit Harlees again due to the battered sausage incident and maybe visit that little cathedral nearby. The chips were just okay, nothing to leave home for.

I use harlees a lot because it is easy and close, we usually just get fish and chips or battered sausage, sometimes the sausage is cooked fresh and is delicious, sometimes we get the one out of the glass cabinet and it is very tough, Don't get me wrong its a good fish and chips place & very convenient, but i was a little disheartened by the last visit.

Long queue, which should be taken as a good sign, beware city centre places with no customers !! haddock was a lovely jucy fillet surrounded by crispy batter, ample portions of chips niuce and crispy on outside fluffy in the middle. Great job and truly appreciated.

Been coming here more than I should but who cares when the food is amazing and fresh and the customer service is top notch, cant find anything bad about these guys highly recommend.

My wife and I called in to the restaurant on Monday 15th July and enjoyed the best Fish and Chips ever, the staff were fantastic and attentive, especially Nicky who served us. It was great to enjoy an extra supply of the most delicious chips.

Visited the restaurant today (Saturday, mid afternoon). The food was freshly cooked and quite delicious. Chips were crisp outside and meltingly soft within. The fish (cod) was wonderfully fresh, surrounded by a light batter. Nicely presented, there was no sign of the fat-laden soggy food you so often get elsewhere. Staff were attentive, efficient and happy to help. Simply great!

Myself and my brother visited Harlees we were very impressed with the service we got from the staff and the standard of the food. Dawn in particular provided an excellent and friendly service to us both. We will certainly visit again and recommend.
