Look it's pretty good. Came for lunch. Had the tempura moriawase to start and it's first rate - always has been., Seaweed salad - good but you can get big bags of this in Costco for not much - sorry guys, I know food retail. Sashimi Don- lovely fresh salmon with Japanese rice. Super. Duck and rice - my sons favourite ...he has it every time ...always leaves a little bit of green stuff on edge of plate ...he's 28....always starts off saying "what shall I have Dad?" And I go "duck and rice" and he says: why not ? Chicken Katsu curry - wife's favourite..."good comfort food" Three green teas and mini bottle of fizz water Came to £67.00 I don't feel ripped off but as I've said before it's not the thoughtless inexpensive outing it once was Putney branch does have an aircraft hangar feel to it but I suppose you'll always get a table. Service excellent. Local parking tricky.

We came in the afternoon and were immediately seated to where we wanted to. They asked us what we wanted to drink and came back with great speed. We ordered the sushi and we’re impressed by the display of the food on the plate and the salmon was fresh and smooth. I would go here everyday if I was you I would recommend ❗️❗️

We had: Tempura moriaease - really good as ever Chums wskame seaweed - Yep good Edamame - ok Sushi box - good solid quality Chicken teriyaki rice / good Roast duck and rice / good 4 cokes Total with service: £73.26 for three people-close to £ each Good, good service, easygoing but nothing special atmosphere. I've always liked HT. guaranteed a good meal that won't break the bank. But it's not a cheap lunch out anymore, it really isn't.

Disguised under what sounds like the name of a pub, this small oriental restaurant had been recommended by my daughters, and it fully lived up to expectations. Service was kind and efficient, the food was very good, the ambiance was simple and pleasant, full of light and with no background music disturbing the conversation. The bill for the three of us was £50, including a 10% service charge. The high level of takeout activity was confined to the entrance area, and did not disturb us at all. It is now one of my favourite restaurants in the neighbourhood, both for dining in and take out.

The menu has loads of choice, and this causes its own problems. The food came nicely presented and cooked. The staff were ok but could have been a bit more attentive. People were seated close to each other, even though the place was not that busy. It is better to spread people about than shove them into one place.

We recently ordered a takeaway from the Putney branch. When we got home, some of our meal was missing. One of us tried the call the restaurant whilst the other went over to try and sort. No one answered the phone for over 15 mins and upon arrival my partner was told it was our fault this has happened. No solution was offered and our remaining hot food at home was ruined. Avoid.

Different place pre and post covid The food was excellent but everything else was very disappointing. The staff were disinterested in the few tables that had customers and only seemed to be interested in the take away service and Deliveroo drivers that streamed in. It felt like we were an after thought, in a take away shop. The toilets were absolutely disgusting, they smelt, were dirty and had loo roll everywhere. Then at 9:15pm we were repeatedly asked if we wanted to make a last order and at 9:45pm (on a Saturday night, with friends who hadn’t seen each other since before covid) we were given the bill and asked to make our way out. Very very disappointing especially as it is a place we used to enjoy so much.

Awful. Food arrived suspiciously quickly (perhaps reheated). Ambience/setting was awful. I went to H&T for my 19th birthday in 2017 (different branch) but it’s seriously gone down the pan (unless it’s just Putney). I would have been more satisfied with a McDonalds.

Quite busy for a midweek lunchtime. Food is a wide range of Asian favourites and still consistent, reliable and enjoyable. Even the Japanese dishes are quite authentic (one of us grew up there, as a third culture kid, and is fussy). It used to be one of our three preferred locals and, actually, food seems to be better now than in the months just before lockdowns began (hard to remember a time before global biowarfare) and tables are spaced somewhat farther apart. It did not re-open properly for quite a few weeks over summer 2020, until “eat out to help out”. This year, the usual weekend queues were missing after the half year+ of lockdown finally ended in July so we did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. We had new looking menus (seemed identical to the old ones except prices may have gone up about 10-15%, based on our bill total).

Strange mini chain this with branches In Kensington High Street, Chiswick, Ealing, Bloomsbury and this one in the Upper Richmond Road, Putney. This is a large open plan barn of a place serving with a few exceptions the same range of pan-Asian food as its other locations majoring on sushi but also running g the whole gamut of noodle, rice and ramen staples. Chicken kari-age, Japanese style-nuggets with salad made for a solid starter whilst three panko covered prawns were exceptional. Mains of salmon and rice, chicken ramen and Malaysian style laksa soup were our choice of mains although Chinese style duck rice would have done just as well. Only downside was the building felt slightly tatty, the tables might have been better cleaned and the menus overused.

I used to go there every weekend. This place used to be a good restaurant and service was Ok. Over the last 10 months or more something happened.The prices gone up for no reason They put service charge on top of the bills(illegal) They don’t have customer service skills This place has not been cleaned for long time I think. That’s why they have 4 stars hygiene rating Which is very bad for a Japanese restaurant Come on guys wake up

Food was nice. Quiet and not so crowded. Spacious. I ordered chicken teriyaki but was given duck teriyaki disguised as chicken (i am a chef so i know the difference). I don't know if they did it by mistake or on purpose because they ran of of chicken or wanted to use up the duck. Me personally i like duck anyways so i didn't notify the staff or call them out on it however if they did do it on purpose, im concerned for someone who could have allergies or certain dietary issues or something. Just a headsup, check your food before you eat it just in case. For the record, the teriyaki duck i was given was nice anyways. Food was tasty, I'd come back.

Longtime since we visited this lovely restaurant. Again food was amazing and perfect service. Change of staff which was sad. Takeaway also well packed and just as good. Only reservation is the restaurant does need a face lift as looking very tired. But won’t stop us returning

Fresh sushi that is well prepared cannot be beaten. And this restaurant does just that, we like to order the gourmet platter, worth the money as the selection is good. See my pictures. The restaurant has good space and tables are not on top of each other. Parking is to be found across the road and down on the left in a side street, not ideal as it can be a longish walk to find a space. However, do not let that put you off its very good.

This is a local restaurant for me and I have dined here countless times. Over the last six months the service has got really bad. For everything you need you have to put up your hand

Literally the best tampora prawns I’ve had in forever. But unfortunately service was quick initially but poor after. As other have said they seem more interested in the take away orders. Toilets leave a lot to be desired and place could generally be a bit cleaner too. Go next door! Fabulous local sushi restaurant.

Unfortunately they seemed to be more focused on their take away clients rather than their restaurant guests ... when you finally get served, and the food actually arrives, it’s actually quite good. Just a shame their service lets them down

The only time everything works well is when the main office time-&-motion expert (trainer?) has visited, about once a year. Staff are efficient then and the kitchen is (metaphorically) on fire: all food comes out literally with 5 minutes.Then everything slows down more and more. The rest of the year, wait staff specialise in facing the kitchen, chatting to each other with their backs to customers. It’s deliberate because they all do it - any new wait staff are quickly taught how to ignore customers.Oh yes, food is tasty, quality is usually consistent (except for the now-awful tempura batter) and prices reasonable. The food is what brings this rating up to as high as 3/5. Pity about the staff, who ruin the experience and have done for years - none of this attitude is new. Forget any kind of welcome or a thank you when you leave. Worst service in Putney and some of the worst service of anywhere we’ve been. The longer staff are there, the more they look as if they are in too much pain to crack a smile. Better to get rid of all wait staff, including the arrogant manager, and start again - so new wait staff are not tainted.

I like the food they serve but I noticed the restaurant has to improve a lot of things, first they have to take care more about the environment because the restaurant looks dirty and the tables are unstable; on the other hand, the music all the time is really annoying and it seems to be same playlist of Britney Spears. I just noticed they reduced the portions but increased the prices highly. Please take into account these suggestions.

Mi amigo y yo obtuvimos el primer plato de cangrejo de caparazón blando y el pad thai y tempura udon como nuestras comidas. Fue buena comida pero el servicio fue un poco lento. Esperamos para pedir / recibir la factura por unos 15 minutos, haciendo contacto visual con nuestro camarero y viéndolo mezclarse con los otros camareros. Nos dimos cuenta de que él también miraba con bastante frecuencia, lo cual era un poco extraño y cuando finalmente vino a nuestra mesa, sentimos una presencia incómoda. No respondimos a nada de lo que dijimos. . No pregunté si la comida estaba bien. . Parecía tímido y torpe. Pad thai era mediocre en el mejor de los casos, pero el plato de udon era bastante bueno junto con el cangrejo de caparazón blando.

This is our favourite local restaurant. It's a mix of Thai, Japanese and Chinese dishes, all excellently prepared, delicious and big portions. It's always busy which indicates its popularity. Service is quick and friendly and cost is reasonable.

We were 4 adults and 2 child and went in for dinner on a Sunday evening. The ambience is slightly noisy but casual so a good venue for speaking with your friends. Interiors is quite basic and decent. Service was attentive throughout the evening. We ordered a variety of dishes for the table and all that we ordered arrived extremely quickly and tasted very good. I had the curry laksa and it was perfectly well spiced and quite a wholesome meal. Overall we had a very good experience and can recommend this restaurant. Very nominally priced dishes (Between £10 - £19 for a dish, which also includes their deluxe sushi set)

After being told that we were going to wait for half an hour, I asked for a take away. However, I kept my number for the queue just in case a table could be free before half an hour. I felt lucky when we saw a free table after 12 minutes. We went there and immediately they arrived with our food already prepared for a take away. I asked them if we could sit there and we were told that the manager had agreed us to sit but we were not going to be given any plates.

It was a great experience considering you are not in Japan! Friendly and quick service. There were many veggie options and a great variety of meat/fishy plates. I would definitely go back if in the area.

Have been before but this time was a real let down. Met our extended family from abroad here for dinner. We had called to make sure AirCon was working as it was baking, and that the draught beer, Kirin was available. On arrival AirCon conked and beer off....

Os pratos vieram rápido e bem servidos, bom atendimento e preços normais para Londres. Se gosta de comida japonesa e está na região creio que vai gostar!

Really broad choice of multiple Asian cuisines, nice sushi and some very good noodles. But overall, you wonder whether a smaller more focused menu would be better? Very nice attentive staff.

Aparecimos aquí para comer algo a las 5 de la tarde un sábado con un niño pequeño. El lugar era sorprendentemente más concurrido de lo esperado. Más que una norma de nuevo pedimos para nosotros cuando se trata de la japonesa, pero todo estaba muy bueno. Plato de fideos udon estaba delicioso, el sushi estaba bien, y el arroz frito estaba un poco seco. Pero en general, una experiencia muy agradable, sin duda volveremos.

Vivimos a 2 minutos de aquí en años pasados y eran grandes aficionados de un té con nuestro bebé luego de sábado y los bebés. Mucho espacio para el cochecito y fue siempre inferior que Wagamama maníaca. Nos trasladamos a pocas millas de distancia pero ahora nuestro bebé es un niño bastante grande con un apetito enorme hemos comenzado volver, en gran parte porque el menú satisface a todo el mundo, y una variedad de gustos y favoritos. Algunos de nosotros nos gusta el sushi (y es muy buena aquí), los niños disfrutan de pollo teriyaki de salmón y katsu, además de los fideos son buenas también. Me encanta el camarón y cebollino chino, Greens, gyozas y maguro claro tataki es la mejor de todas. Plato principal porciones son enormes. . . Después de una selección de. El katsu entrantes y teriyaki alimentar a todos cuatro. Se siente como valor razonable como resultado. El servicio es bueno y el restaurante entorno bien. . . Tanto podría tener un orden. En resumen, diría que es muy buena para una cena familiar temprano o llevar (siempre perfectamente empacados y frescos) pero no esperes restaurantes, un ambiente romántico o un servicio perfecto.

I am a regular at Ealing Broadway branch and today I had a chance to try H&T; in Putney. I ordered phad thai, my fav dish of this chain, and got very disappointed. It was very sour and looked like a brown pulp. I will never go back there again. It was so different to the one I always have in Ealing. They have this amazing chef that has been there for years and the food is really delicious. The conclusion is: chain - no chain, all depends on the chef!

By far my favourite restaurant. The food is great value for money and delicious. I have dined here what must be hundreds of times over the years and have never been disappointed!

I have been to this restaurant few time over the past three years and the food has always been very good. It is freshly made, hot and well presented. I think for the size of the portions, it's value for money too.

This restaurant has always been a family favourite. We went on New Year's Eve and I had the Udon Set which comes with tempura and sushi. Tip: ask for the tempura on the side if you don't want it to get soaked in the soup.

Hare and Tortoise restaurants have been one of our favourite eateries. Our local used to be the Kensington one but...

It's not much to look at from the outside as one peers through a long glass front into a rather functional concrete space given some colour by the odd piece of abstract art on the wall. On a Saturday lunchtime it was packed, not just because so many of its nearest competitors could not even be bothered to open, but because of the sheer range, quality, quantity of the Asian food on offer all at thoroughly reasonable prices. The connoisseur of sushi, the devotee of a Thai curry, or the lover of a Malaysian laksa, can all have a field day here. We began with three tempura prawns exemplary in their crunchiness. Six vegetarian spring rolls cost a mere £3.50. For mains my wife was impressed with her salmon teriyaki and rice together with spring greens and onions. I opted for a recent addition to the menu, a Penang curry of chicken and potatoes in a tangy sauce with a separate bowl of rice. Best of all was, I think, my daughter's roast duck rice, as good as you can get in a specialist Chinese restaurant, and an extremely generous portion taboot.

Very good Food. It's our 'Chinese' substitute in Putney as our favourite closed. However here at the Hare & Tortoise you can get a fab selection of Suchi & Noodles, sweet & sour etc. Highly recommend for Couples or larger parties (but remember to book)

I love the Hare and Tortoise chain. Their food is consistently very good and they are deservedly always busy. That is why I was so shocked to see them reverting to presenting the card payment machine and programming it to ask if you would like to leave a tip.....on top of the 12.5 % service charge already added to your bill!!!Shockingly bad practise. Next time they do this I will automatically deduct the optional 12.5 % service charge and leave nothing. May I suggest we all make this standard practise for these parasitic chancers. They don't need to do it but I bet a fair few who have had a few drinks fall for this every single day. You have been warned. What really annoyed me was the manager I complained to explained it away by claiming " other restaurants do it too". Not many, in my experience.

Absolutely delicious food. Very warm atmosphere and good service. The roast duck and rice and the pad Thai are very nice.

Extensive menu. All dishes perfectly prepared. Friendly staff, reasonable prices. What more could you ask for? Good toilets downstairs. We'll be back.

I live in Putney and this is one of my favourites.The staff is amazing and friendly.The food is spectacular and well priced.I often go for Chicken Katsu Curry and I'm never disappointed. Fresh watermelon juice is delicious too. Highly recommend!

Great Food & service. Although it looks like a Japanese Restaurant we use it as our 'Local' CHINESE as there isn't a decent one in Putney but this is Ab Fab. Try the CHINESE Greens to start, it's actually PAK CHOY with the most amazing sauce & what a healthy way to start a wonderful dinner. Lovely service & ambiance Too.

I came here to have a quick lunch. Been here a few times before. I accidentally spilled my miso soup right after they served it. I asked if they can bring me a fresh one. Instead of replacing it they wanted to charge me for a new order.You lost a customer on this. It is not the cost of the soup but the lack of care you showed. Extremely disappointed. You need to train your staff to better handle these types of situation.

I have been here multiple times with friends mainly. The food has always been to a high standard and delicious, however often the staff has lacked in terms of attentiveness and response. This was up until a couple of weeks ago, when we were graced with the presence of a new waiter. Kasiel was and remains to be a well presented and polite server, who is always caring to our every need. We have be a lot happier with him as our regular server and will always come back as long as he is here.

Go there for the authentic Malaysian food - Curry Laksa and Char Kway Teow - but all its asian and Japanese food is wonderful, inexpensive and the service is good. Its a very casual eatery but very popular and we keep going very regularly.

The menu is excellent with plenty to choose from and a varied seasonal menu as well. The sushi is fresh and always delicious, and the ramens come highly recommended. The staff are very attentive and always have a smile. The restaurant itself is canteen style and the prices are quite reasonable (£9 for a ramen and £11 for a salmon sushi box). We actually visit the Hare and Tortoise weekly as it is so good!

We have been here several times since living in Putney. Consistently good, reasonably priced and a menu wide enough to keep everyone happy. It was once described to me as utilitarian, and it is, but in a good way.

I've been several times, its busy and full of life (and feels a little like you're on a production line...) but the food is usually excellent - go there when you're hungry and want something quick. My favourite is the grilled eel - not something I'd ever do myself so worth the extra cost of going to a restaurant!

Great service, even though the restaurant is always busy, I have always been served extremely fast. The food is fresh and tasty. Suitable for couples, families and friends. I'm a sushi lover and tried many places in London, this remains my favorite. Their hot dishes are delicious as well. Prices are extremely reasonable.

Used to go here quite often then they put prices up and reduced portions. Stopped in on Friday to get a takeaway. Sat and watched the chefs at work plating up. Some of it sat there for a bout 10 mins. Then waitress came along with order a shouted at chefs that it was supposed to be for takeaway. It was mine. They refused to recook fresh when I complained and wouldn't give a refund. Will go to to proper Japanese restaurant two does down from now on.

After finding our fav restaurant closed for an emergency we decided to venture into Hare and Tortoise as the reviews seemed ok... we so wish we hadn't. We ordered some sushi: 3 rolls, 2 sashimi and some nigiri. It was on the table within 3 minutes, stone cold, obviously all pre-made. It was as bland as supermarket sushi can be and a lot of rice with a little fish. The spider roll comes at over £14 for 4 peaces and even the soft shell crab was obviously prepared well in advance as it was cold with the frying oil lingering all over and saggy. Whilst we were trying to get around the speed of the sushi our warm food was also brought to the table with the result that we had no space to put anything down and had to hold on to serving plates and transfer food. Service was over diligent in a bad way, rather unpleasant with little English. The positive in it all? We were in and out, almost £90 poorer, within 15 minutes!!! Very bad.... I honestly don't get how some people like this place... there are lovely Japanese restaurants in the area that are miles better!

The Char Kewy Tau is excellent, and add a bit of red chilli oil to get a spicy edge. Quick service and good value.

I love this place. The food is always top notch. The atmosphere is lost little because of the layout of the place but you can't fault the food. We tend to order loads of little plates rather than the massive main courses. To be honest they are better than most main course options we've had. We go back time and again.

If you go order the M6 & M8 , their main dishes to much oil & was not freshly made. Seemed allFrozen & just pre heat. I give this place 3 stars. The sushi as I said is okay to good. Maybe it's because I spend too much eating in authentic Japanese restaurants.

I have eaten here for years, both takeout and dining in and it never disappoints.There is an extensive menu that is supplemented by special dishes that change every few months.The service is excellent and very quick.

I eat here often at lunch times, it is for me comfort food at its best, the beef with black bean sauce is a large bowel of glossy medium spicy sauce with large chunks of red and green peppers and onions with a mass of tender beef, served bubbling hot with rice and a cup of tea for less the £10 - with a tip. Excellent.

Have eaten here many times, always happy with food and service. And the staff have always been helpful.

This restaurant is a little further out in Putney on the upper Richmond Road, it serves food from all over Asia. The portion sizes are very good and the prices are even better... won't get a better chicken katsu curry then you will at this place believe me. Tasty sushi platters. Service is not the most amazing, staff won't frequent your table you will need to grab there attention if you need anything... but the food and price is worth ago.

Lovely and better alternative to some of the other pseudo-Asian chains. Tasty and flavourful, with helpful staff.

I've been ordering your miso ramen soup for years now and every few months I come back the portion is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. This time it was less than half the bowl... Although very tasty it is not good value for money anymore.

We went on a Saturday evening, a pre movie meal. We went for starters and a main course. The starters came up hot and tasty - spicy chicken wings, spring roles and king prawns all delicious and piping hot. We then had a variety of main courses chicken and black bean sauce, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon- beautifully presented and delicious to eatWould totally recommend

Go here like every month and it never gets old. 10/10 restaurant so I thought I had to pay it homage

I wish this chain was not just in London , it's ramen was amazing! The sushi salmon board so fresh. Would defiantly go back and try more of their dishes.

Visited early evening for a light meal (for three) before going to a theatre production. Has been over a year since our last visit but the quality of food and service has been maintained. Soft shell crab and tempura prawns were perfect, as were gyoza with octopus (!), seared tuna with delicious garlic based coating and pumpkin croquettes. Staff are welcoming and there is a good drinks list (we had non-alcoholic juices). The restaurant is open all day unlike many others in Putney. Definitely worth a visit.

I had my doubts as I have not been to a decent Asian restaurant for a very long time. But to my dismay, I was pleasantly surprised. The starters of the sticky chicken sticks were very nice, the chicken dumplings were mediocre. The katsu curry was delicious! The staff were very friendly and the food came out super quick! Will go again for sure!

We've gone to Hare and Tortoise a couple times for dinner and have enjoyed both meals there. The sushi is good, but definitely adds up and there are better deals to get elsewhere. Service is friendly and food arrives very quickly. Good for a week night out, but nothing particularly special or authentic about the experience.

Been a few times. Never had any complaints or a bad meal. Very simple but the food is great. There is a great variety on the menu and you get your money's worth. They do take-aways too. You will find the best sushi and laksa in town. Great for a date night out or to bring a family too.

This place does all the classics and some new dishes you may have not tried before. It's brilliant for those on a budget, and the choice on the menu is vast. You can always find something for everyone on the menu. Only downside is the furnishings are pretty basic and it can get quite noisy when really busy. However when your dish is half the price and a bigger portion and tastier than highstreet equivalents you can't be disappointed.

Very good Japanese food at good price. Also very good quantity and friendly people.I will definitely come here again.

Good value for noodle/rice-based food, very tasty and I much prefer it to Wagamama, good though that is.

Not an expert on Asian food, but after 4 visits here I am yet to be disappointed. Service and portion sizes never fail to disappoint. The sushi is good value for money also. One point to mention though: the back of the menu says that service will be added to tables of 10 or more, and yet it was added to our table of two. Shame, because we wanted to tip our lovely attentive server cash in person. Although it is optional, it was still dishonest to add it to our bill when the menu states otherwise.

Always busy so we booked a table on Saturday evening and then when we arrived the place was very quiet. However, this soon changed with an equal amount of customers arriving for take aways as there were for being seated.The food is pretty good and efficiently served, very easy to over order if you're hungry and the waiters are helpful in advising that you can always order more later.Maybe I've been here once too often but I was as enthusiastic about the experience as I have felt on previous occasions. We ate well for £70 though.

The food is very good at this place, as several times before, and at a very reasonable price. Much better than the likes of wagamama. Only small odd thing was staff eating food in the resturant on two neighbouring tables next too us.

We eat here every day, sometimes twice in the same day - Good fresh Sushi, reasonably priced. Lovely duck, Chicken arage, and beef with noodles. Staff are very efficient and hardworking.
