Harbour View Cafe in Conwy

The food from Harbour View is good, a favourite chippy of ours in the area. However on our most recent visit the customer service was that poor we were going to walk out. Young adults behind the counter who didn’t seem to care about providing a good service, no welcome or hello upon entering, our order was taken but not even a thank you for an almost £50 order. It was sad to see just eat drivers being completely ignored by staff, a driver was trying to ask questions in order to pick up the order he was delivering and no staff acknowledged him so he picked the order he assumed was his and left. I’d advise improving customer service to encourage customers to return here. Fully understand the pressures of this environment however a customers experience should always be the priority.

We had fish and chips for our supper, they were cooked on ordering. They were excellent and the staff were very polite and helpful, will be a regular costumer.

Popped in after moving to Cheshire to see how much it had changed since last visit yonks ago. Disappointed that no haddock was available so ordered up a small cod and large cod suppers which were all freshly cooked.The large supper was massive and could feed 2 people.

First time I’ve visited Harbour View, but will definitely go again. Ordered large fish and chips and a carton of gravy. The biggest fish I ever had from a chippy. Wouldn’t fit in the box, so they wrapped separately. Tasty, not too oily and crispy batter near the ends. The gravy was nice and thick and the chips were decent too.

We stopped for takeaway haddock and chips. I was trying to find a fish and chip restaurant I went to with my mum and dad as a kid! So imagine my delight to find it was still here, but under a new name (well, changed decades ago!) and still as good as I remember. Lovely freshly cooked fresh haddock and super crispy chips. Friendly service. Thank you both. Takeaway or cafe. Don’t miss this one!

Always come here if in Deganwy for take out. They do have a nice sit down area too. Food and service always and can still get a good portion of cod and chips for under a tenner. I went slightly over with a drink. Was there early and not to sit in so can't comment on atmosphere but looks a nice little restaurant with great views across the river.

I've been here in the past and it was really good but that was a few years ago. This there was paper and flatten chips on the floor. And the curry sauce you could build a wall with as it was that dry. Left half of the food and threw it away.

Myself and my partner ordered: 2x large fish and chips both with salt and vinegar, and a pot of homemade curry sauce and the gravy. Well safe to say I am incredibly disappointed and very annoyed at this experience. To start off two fish and chips with sauces cost £38!!!! If the food was any good, I’d be fine with paying that but everything was pretty bad. First of all, we ordered the meals to go through just eat and was delivered over an hour late. (We live 2 minutes down the road.) When the food turned up, the curry sauce was spilled all over the bag, it made a huge mess when I opened up the bag. (It was properly the fault of the delivery driver tbf.) When eating the fish and chips, 1 portion of chips had no salt and vinegar. The fish was quite big in size which is quite nice but it was completely flavourless and very greasy. The batter got stuck to the paper wrapping and peels off and was all mushy. At £10 a fish you would expect so much better!!!!!! Myself and my partner are not the type to complain about food, we’re not fussy or likely to complain about food too much. But for the cost of this meal, we were appalled. We’re not done yet though, my partner ate less than half of his meal and told me that the homemade curry sauce tasted soapy? He said that it tasted like the pot it was cooked in hadn’t been rinsed properly of soap sudds. My gravy tasted like cheap beef’s gravy that you can buy from Asda, it would have been cheaper from there too! We both haven’t finished our meals and are now left hungry, annoyed and dead set on never returning here again! Shame on you Harbour View, £38 for this standard of food is bad!

The BEST chippy tea we’ve ever had. Made fresh and generous with portion sizes. 10/10 will recommend to everyone!!

Very friendly atmosphere, and lovely service. Fish was cooked fresh to order, chips were hot, and most importantly the gravy was thick! Great value for money. 10/10 would recommend and will be going back

We usually go to Conwy Arches chippy but decided to try this for a change this evening. The guy serving was unbelievably slow and left my open chips in the tray just sitting on the side whilst he washed a few things then came to tell the lady serving how exhausted he was before I said that my food was going cold and asked that he wrap it. He’s already put one tray into the carrier bag and it must have been 15 mins before he added the second. Not at all happy with that. The chips and peas were ok, fine. The fish looked amazing, golden and crispy and quite big, and the actual fish inside was good, but the batter was 2cm or more thick in parts and not cooked through, it was as though the fish was wrapped in uncooked flaccid pastry in parts. Where the batter was thinner it was nice albeit there was a LOT of oil inside. All in all, could have been way better.

Popped in here as staying nearby, and really glad I did. To quote my partner: 'I think these are the best fish and chips I've had'. Couldn't agree more! Very generous portions, and the fish was battered and cooked fresh in front of me. The curry sauce is not your usual chip shop fayre, it's properly home made and delicious. Really friendly team too, 10/10!

Went here for scampi, chips & peas, what more can you say! I grab chips from here regularly when I go to see my aging father, he really looks forward to either chips or a kids fish-finger meal.

Called in to the takeaway side of harbour view was really looking forward to fish and chips, what a mistake it was to go here. It was without doubt the worst fish and chips I’d ever had. Cod & chips it was meant to be but it looked like coley or pollock. And the size of the fish was more like a pilchard. I certainly won’t be donating my hard earned cash to them again.

The fish was undercooked and inedible also the batter was extremely greasy. Felt sickly after trying first mouthful. The chips were chewy, clearly reheated. Such a disappointment as the girl serving was so pleasant. Waste of nearly £10 not cheap!! Sorry but not value for money, threw the fish away. Won’t go back.

22 quid. Pure Greed. Fish, chips, teeny tiny pot of gravy (gravy powder and water) and a can of pop. 22 (twenty two) the world has gone mad. Its just pure GREED. Whats with the tiny pots now its gravy granules and water , nowhere nr covers the food .

At home in the Midlands we will sometimes share a large portion of chips and a large fish between my wife and I and our 2 young children - as long as I'm not greedy, we usually have enough each to tide us over. We thought we'd do the same here as a lunchtime snack... It's apparent however that potion sizes are not the same in Wales! To say it was supposed to be a large portion, the box was absolutely tiny with no more than a handful of chips - I would hate to see a small portion. Some of the chips were also undercooked, which was a real shame. Although the service was very friendly, I can't say I'll be rushing back on our next visit.

A good dependable Chippy with cheerful staff and spotlessly clean. I’ve been here many times and it is always good. It has changed a little of late but it has new owners who don’t work there as they have so many others ventures.

WOW. I think this could be the best fish and chips we’ve had. Great portion sizes, brilliant fish, and the home made fish cake is not to be missed. and to top it off the staff were really helpful, polite, and nice. 5 stars.

The worst fish and chips I've ever had. Greasy fish, soggy chips, and cold curry sauce. No wonder the shop is empty. Thankfully I'm not local and only visiting the area so I won't be returning anyway

Always use this chip shop has we live in Deganwy. We was so disappointed with the food last time we went there. We spent £30 the chips had been warmed up and the fish was very small and greasy.

My other half and I have been coming here for well over 10 years and we have never had a bad meal. Everything is always cooked fresh to order, and I would much rather wait a little longer for that; not that the wait for food was especially long. The staff were polite and courteous and the whole place was clean and tidy.

Have used Harbour View for many years but I was very disappointed with a recent visit. The fish were half the size that they used to be and I couldn’t tell the difference between small and large. In the hot cupboard they looked like scraps. The chips were not hot and the mushy peas were not mush! I will not be be back.

Being a local I have been a regular customer, After being closed due to an unfortunate fire, it was finally nice to see this much missed local chip shop reopen its doors, always enjoyed the food from there, but sometimes when visiting it just smacks of lack of communication as 5 different girls behind the counter asked the guy in front of me to repeat his order 5 different times! The guy getting visibly annoyed, with 3 of them all trying to pack his order and no one knowing who had done what, then when I ordered, I asked for a large Chinese curry to go with my food, but when I got home I was faced with a half filled tub of curry!? pretty disappointing, they are desperately in need of some training and leadership it seems, and guidance in portion control, definitely not what I asked or paid for. I have noticed in recent time how the fish has slowly started to reduce in size, a large fish used to be h the full length of the box, now it's barely large enough to cover my hand! If you can, travel further afield, I know I will from now on

The girls are very efficient, and food, especially the fish cakes.

I'm still in shock after paying £21 for 2 fish & 2 peas no chips. Fish £9 each!!! Was the worst thin piece of fish I've ever had! Will never use this chippy again. In the past the fish was fantastic ! Very disappointed please don't waste your money 😞

I visited this chip shop today with my boy at 2pm, just as the shop was about to close. My wife Lisa waited outside in the car. The two young ladies in the shop, named “Dee” and “Bee”, were just about to close the shop after lunch. Yet after me explaining my wife wanted fish and scallops, my son wanted sausage and chips and myself wanting chips and curry, the two ladies without any delay started to throw in the fryer fresh fish and potatoes etc. Not only were the two ladies so friendly and happy, they were utterly professional working over after work, to help customers. The food was magnificent as always, with the fish apparently bing “Out of this world!”. We are returning holiday makers, whom honestly think that this is the best quality, priced and service in North Wales area. Well done “Dee” and “Bee”. Thanks Phil and family.

Chips not cooked properly or the potatoes used are not fresh. Batter on fish hard and very fatty. You could also still taste the powdered mixture in the curry sauce. All in all poor and well over priced

Fish and chips were all freshly fried. HOWEVER, the chips were too soggy and the fish was not crispy. Perhaps it was a bad batch, but was a shame considering the £40 spent on x3 orders. Please work on it!

Me and my partner went last Sunday...the fish and chips were fantastic.... the lady who served us was so accommodating.She let us sit inside..and looked after us.. Thank you very much....we will see you again.....

We were searching for a chip shop that was open late on Sunday and we arrived just before closing. The staff were clearing up but served me whatever they had left! I wasn't planning on having the fishcake but we did and it was scrumptious with plenty of chips & gravy. We don't usually use this chip shop as there are plenty closer to us but we will definitely make the effort to drive further out for a lovely take away dinner.

These are the best fish & chips in the area .. The ‘Mixed Fish’ basket is great value at £8.99, the customer service is always lovely, the team are really welcoming and the service is quick and you are never waiting for long, they also have an indoor area and serve wine aswell as the usual cold drinks, the chilli and rice is also worth trying it’s delicious, lots of people on holiday and the locals buy their F & C here then go down to the Deganwy sea front where there are lots of benches to sit and look out towards Conwy - it’s stunning .. It’s a perfect evening !!!

Lovely thick fish. Great portions. And although it's very warm in there and staff are a bit blinded by the sun (west facing window with a stunning view) they are all so helpful. As I'm a bit nosey it's great to be able to see into the food prep area, and its always clean and tidy, which I imagine is difficult with grease. Da iawn/well done

Visited harbour view on the evening of 28th May and the staff were so friendly and very helpful. Some of the best chips I've ever had! Can't recommend highly enough!

Really disappointing - large cod was small, beans were half a pot of bean sauce, gherkins were tiny. Very expensive for what you get and really rather poor quality.

Top quality fish and chips - amazing views across the bay to the castle - lovely staff ☺️- will definitely visit again.

I've been getting fish and chips from here for years as the quality is always very good. It isn't cheap but the service is friendly and they'll cook the fish exactly as you want it. It's become a bit of a tradition that I call here when visitting friends in the area and I hope to be back soon.

Been visiting this chippy for some time and we weee devastated to be served our favourite fish n chips in paper, it totally ruined the flavour and taste unlike when they were served in a box. Please please go back to boxes.

Went on google to see if they are open and they were open from 11:30 8:00 but when we went to the chip shop they were closed due to Xmas hours. So we had to go to Conwy to find fish and chips and ended eating them at home as after we tried to find somewhere to park the chips were cold. Maybe they need to put Xmas hours on the website or Google so people don’t drive for a long distance

Might be quite nice at an earlier time. Saturday night, Google says they close at 8pm. We got there about 7.45pm and the kitchen was closed, all cookers off and cleaned, ready to close. They had some chips prepacked for "late" customers, said there was no fish, basically only because the kitchen was closed. Chips just tasted like they'd been sitting there for a while. Just felt like the last thing they wanted was a customer coming in and delaying the staff from being able to leave bang on 8 o clock. Rather say you close at 7.30pm, so staff can clean and leave by 8pm.

Ok the chippy itself was ok, clean and tidy. Ordered Sausage chips and a can of Pepsi Max and a portion of chips. £9.60. I asked for a bag and was charged an extra 10p. I know prices have gone up but this is absolutely ridiculous. I will certainly not return again and think that a sandwich and a drink would probably be just as cheap at a 5-star hotel. I was too embarrassed to say anything but was flabbergasted. The food was very nice though.

Best chips ive had in a long time from this chippy tonight! Served by a lovely young gentleman, who put the perfect amount of salt and vinager on my chips! Will be back for sure!
