Happy Chef in Daventry

My family LOVED the food from this place. We got take out although went in to order it. Place seemed clean and well cared for, while the two young men behind the counter were very patient with my sister, who took her sweet time deciding. Portions were generous and my family all agreed it was absolutely delicious. They had a chow mein, a beef and mushroom dish, chips, lots of rice, a starter for two and much more. My Dad ADORED their seaweed. Everything was very well cooked and presented, plus we got some free prawn crackers. We will definitely be back!!

Always good food & really polite staff. Been going for years now, always great! Would recommend to those looking for a Chinese in Daventry area.

Definitely would not recommend. Firstly we made an order of only 3 items which we were told would arrive in 30 mins, one hour later and still no food. Rang up the restaurant in which the staff were impolite and managed the situation poorly. Once the food arrived it was cold, chicken balls were pink inside and was missing pancakes for the duck. Very disappointed in such a highly rated restaurant. Told us there was no manager in store only to then be put on the phone to him. For our troubles he offered to enter us in a Christmas raffle. Not satisfied.

Tried for my birthday for the first time as our usual choice was closed. Very pleased with quality , price and delivery time. Will def use again and recommend

Myself and 2 friends had gone fishing on the local reservoir and told to try this place as they deliver to the gate so as a treat I thought we would have a Chinese. I've never been so disappointed ever with a takeaway. I ordered chicken and beef curry with fried rice and they ordered 2 chicken and mushroom currys, chicken balls, chips and dry spare ribs. Firstly my curry had no flavour and looked like they had just threw it together and it even came with mushrooms so the curry was all watery, yak. I also tried there chicken balls which tasted greecy and also no seasoning. The dry ribs were a little better but had hardly any meat on apart from gristle. Not a very good first impression I must say, waited about 1hr an half also. Wont be eating from here again. Was going to ring up and complain but it would have taken them ages to collect meal back. Anyone who has rated this place more than 1 star has never tried a decent curry.

We have had meals from here in the past and have enjoyed them, sadly this was so disappointing that I am left not wanting to visit again. Before I do any review I always think its best to go to the place to let them know and they can rectify the problem. However, I have left a message on fb to them and I have heard nothing (over a week ago). The prawn kung po was awful, nothing like I've ever tasted before and only had 6/7 small prawns in it. It's the first time I haven't finished a meal. The chilli ribs were fatty and bland. Over all I feel we wasted £20+ on a meal, I didn't eat and I could of cooked better. The only reason we didn't take it back, was we don't live in Daventry.

Just had first take away from happy chef. Did phone order , ready in 30 minutes , it was quite busy when I got there It's mainly take away but you can sit inside , a few bench like tables. Fried chicken wings for starters were fab, plenty of them. I had special curry and rice for main , plenty of mixed meat. No parking out front if your picking up

New to daventry and its my first time ordering from them. The crispy beef is one of the best i had, everything was fresh, the lady was very nice and recommend me a few dishes to try next time. They also do gluten-free dishes for my wife. Would definitely be back

Quite the best takeaway in the district. My having been to a number of far East countries including China I like to think I know what is good. Each time the food has been exelent Thier delivery service is also very good

The food is fantastic. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant not so great. Too much incense burning and there are long tables which are always empty when we've been, normally around 5-7 pm. Do go at least once a month as the food is always spectacular. Recommend the rice noodles, chicken and pineapple, and Tom yum soup.

Happy chef is definitely one of the best Chinese in Daventry their food is always delicious not too oily like other takeaways. I've never had a bad meal from here however the only downside is that they're very busy and sometimes their waiting times are very long but that is understandable and is expected on weekends which is why I only rated 4 stars

Food was mediocre... sevice was the same..went for a birthday meal..and had to keep oyr coats on.. staff were friendly. But wouldn't rush back.. we even put the calor gas fire on as its bare and cold.

We come here every so often on our lunch break at work. The service is always good, the lunch time menu is good value for money and plenty of choice. If it is busy service can sometimes be slower as there is only 1 member of staff serving and taking orders.

Happy chef used to offer the freshest nicest Chinese takeaway in Daventry. Unfortunately the last 4 times I have had takeaway from there the quality and flavour has been extremely poor. I will not be ordering from them again.

This was my first time trying this place I had a bad experience with my usual Chinese and was recommended by some friends who come here on a regular. Was very impressed by the food and service. Will be coming back very soon

Been coming here for a while now the food is always lovely, full of flavour and always fresh which you wouldn’t usually get from any other Chinese in Dav. I’m allergic to gluten and the people working there are always so helpful and patient when I order especially because I’m quite picky with what I eat. 5/5 best Chinese in dav would never go anywhere else!!

This was the first time that I’ve order from the place but was very happy ,the food came quickly was delicious ,great flavour and nice size portions . We order for 4 adults which came to around £40 but we order weigh too much . Defo would recommend to everyone

Bought a beef curry that was tasteless and really watery full of slices of onion and I mean full hardly any beef and what beef there was had no taste , I would definitely not be using these again

My son and I had a great takeaway meal from Happy Chef. The lady behind the counter was a delight to deal with, and the food wa absolutely amazing. I am glad our B&B; family told us about the spot.

thought try happy chef as all the other Chinese take away were closed in Daventry on a Monday did not eat in took home, ordered pork chow mein which was dry and tasted horrible, the bbq spare ribs were chewy not falling off the bone like other places and were also very bland, the chicken fried rice was ok, the sweet and sour chicken balls and sauce were ok, the prawn crackers were ok, I was poorly that night and the next day after having the food so I will not be buying from there again and do not recommend at all.

I've had takeaway delivered and have collected from here and the food is always hot and fresh. The staff are lovely and even gave me a freebie when they saw me fall over in the snow!

This restaurant takeaway has been in Daventry for quite some time now, but we hadn’t ever tried it until about 6 months ago. I utterly wish we’d tried it sooner. Totally fallen in love with the food. We often eat in, but more recently have opted to takeaway for ease. Brilliant food, great service, and one of the best around.

As we had company coming round, I decided to collect instead of them delivering. Was told 45 minutes and it would be ready. Further 25 minutes on top of that the food arrived. I rushed home to serve it up. Chicken curry was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was covered in slimy covering and the water in curry sauce I could of used to run a bath. My wife had chicken with oyster sauce. That was even worse. Plate full of water. Disappointing to say the least. Won’t be going there again.

popped in to get a take away simple chicken fried rice, and a gravy sauce, really good decision as it was lovely and gravy sauce plentiful will be back

This is a restaurant & a takeaway, we went for the restaurant, service, very good, Chinese beer not bad, the menu is extensive, not normally a good sign but with a Chinese restaurant it generally is not a problem, we had a variety of dishes all good, Singapore Noodles, excellent, I am not sure where the chef got the recipe for the Satay but it was not Malaysia, tasted of nothing, very bland, the rest of the dishes were good. We did not have a desert, all in all good meal for a reasonable price. Do not have the Satay!! Best way to eat Chinese food is to eat it the way the Chinese do, with a bowl and chopsticks, you will soon learn to use the chopsticks, put some rice ar noodles in the bowl and take a piece of any other dish mix and eat, good luck!!

Well this is our usual Chinese as the food is amazing we had friends over and have spent in excess of £100 on food. But tonight as I went to pick up my order and got home the food was inedible firstly the smoked shredded chicken just tasted of fish the chicken curry was really watery the chow mein tasted like dish water and the duck that was supposed to be in the chow mein was off cuts of skin and fat no meat at all the chicken balls batter was thick and was sticking to the roofs of our mouths. We've ended up leaving it on the side we've never had a bad meal from here but today they've really let themselves down. We will not be wasting our money here again I'd rather drive to weedon. You've kinda put a dampener on our night it's the first time in ages we were going to have a Friday Chinese,beer and film so thanks for spoiling that.

Used Happy Chef for the first time today and found the food to be superb. The service was excellent and the staff were very polite and friendly. Will definitely be using them as first choice from now on.

Waited an hour and a half, only for the incorrect order to arrive. Sat waiting for the correct sauce to arrive for over 20 minutes. Not impressed and not the first time they've messed up my order. It will be the last...

Esperar 1 hora y 45 minutos hasta la comida llegó y no recibir una llamada de cortesía para informarnos allí sería una hora y 15 minutos de retraso. Intentamos ir a tiempo llamada numerosos encontrar donde nuestra orden era, pero nadie contestó el teléfono. No debe utilizar este establecimiento o recomendarlo.

La primera vez para una cena aquí y absolutamente deliciosa. El servicio es muy amable y atento. Curry verde tailandés gambas hermosa (un plato favorito mío) ingredientes frescos y ligeros. Tres comidas y tres platos vacíos ordenados. Esta familia será volver sobre una base regular. Decoración simple y básico pero muy limpio. Happy Chef ofrece comida de alta calidad para una excelente relación calidad-precio. Altamente recomendado.

Estupenda comida. . Ellie fue anfitriona encantadora que mantuvo un ojo abierto para asegurarse de que nunca waitig para tomar una copa o blandos. We were going to order a take away and decided to eat in the save on washing up.

Bought quite a large order and on arrival to pick up was given free bottle of soft drink of my choice. Lovely touch but more importantly the food as always is hot plentiful and full of flavour Best Chinese in dav made a mistake of using a different one one night didn't make that mistake twice this is the only decent Chinese in dav by far Thank you for another amazing meal The duffs

We visited to eat in. This is a takeaway with seats, but perfectly comfortable. Service was fine and the food was fresh, well cooked and had great flavour - not always the case with Chinese. Recommended.

We visited early (6.45pm) on Saturday evening, The surroundings are perhaps a little utilitarian, but clean, the staff friendly. Our order was taken quickly and drinks and starters had arrived within ten minutes (The takeaway orders were coming in steadily, which may explain some others' less happy experiences if they ordered later in the evening). The food was full of flavour and hot. The main courses followed after a brief rest and again provided good sized portions, with good colours, textures and flavours. The vegetables had bite and the shredded beef was pleasantly spicy, without being too overpowering. The final,. pleasant, surprise was the very reasonable bill. It is hardly worth going for a takeaway when you can eat at reasonable prices in a cheerful, clean, environment and leave someone else to do the washing up! We shall certainly return.

Best Chinese in Daventry by far... Not easy to order on the phone though, staff don't tend to listen very well.

We had a delivery from here this week and was really good. Very polite over the phone, quick delivery and the food arrived still hot. Quality was very good and will continue to use.

Best take away in Daventry. Good lunch menu if your on work lunch outing. Great value. Always our choice for a Chinese. Love the satay chicken.

We visited Happy Chef quite late one evening so seating us was not a problem. The waitress was friendly and knowledgable about the food. Our order came out surprisingly quickly but at no point did we feel rushed. The was the best Chinese food I'd eaten in months. I highly recommend you try this place.

I would not recommend this food outlet, the food we ordered this evening as a takeaway was cold....really cold, the squid was inedible, it was so tough it couldn't be chewed. The crispy duck was anything but crispy and couldn't be eaten either. The quality of the rest of the food was also of a very poor quality.The manager could not believe what I was saying when I rang to speak to her as she said I was the only customer ever to complain, she'd obviously never read the reviews on here! There was no small offer of any compensation to repair the situation so I would say their customer service is nil! I would avoid this place, not value for money nor do they value their customers.

Ordered food and asked to collect the food in 20 minutes, the food took about 40 minutes to arrive. The lady who served me said she was going to check if it was ready and then didn't even check for the next 5 minutes. The service is just awful... If I could give a half star I would. To cap it all off they charge 30 pence charge to buy your food using an card. Will never visit again!

Food always hot on collection, freshly cooked at good prices. Definitely one of the better Chinese takeaways in Coventry.

After waiting an hour and a half for a meal we got the wrong order, we ordered a special curry and got a vegetable curry and no chips that we ordered. So we rang them to see if they would bring us the special curry and chips we ordered and paid for. Instead the women we spoke too asked if we still had the vegetable curry to give back so they could sell it after it had been opened and sat on the kitchen side for over half an hour and then she put the phone down on us terrible customer service

We've never eaten inside the premises, so cannot comment on that. However, we have now had several take away meals from here and we are genuinely happy with the place. Everything is cooked to perfection, (including the seafood!) with very generous portions. All of the food gives me the impression that just about everything is freshly prepared. It is all so tasty! The only negatives that I can give about the place are that for delivered orders, on occasion, they could do with being quite a bit warmer. Also, the given delivery times aren't always exactly accurate. However, the positives far, far outweigh those negatives and I would very happily recommend this place to anybody who would like a decent, tasty and very hearty bite to eat.

I eat there quite regularly with family and friends, the food is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful, I like to go for lunch in the week as it has a £5 menu with a drink, the owner is very friendly and chatty, well worth eating there

We love to eat in this chinese restaurant. Although the tables and layout are a little utilitarian and not totally isolated from those waiting to collect their takeaways, it is always clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, the service prompt, and the food is excellent and reasonably priced. We have never ordered takeaway so cannot comment on that.

Went to Happy Chef 11th Oct, at about 8.10pm, as usual Chinese, Canton House, was packed and queue nearly out the door, ordered chicken curry and chicken fried rice £9.50 got home, drooling, BUT......curry stone cold, puddles of water, as if the sauce had separated, tasted it... just awful, so threw it away, ate the rice which was OK but very salty. Will never ever return.

Ordered food for delivery at 7:15pm on a Saturday evening and advised of a 45min-1hour wait. No food after 1hr 45 mins so called to find out what happened. Apparently they were busy. Told would be a further 15 mins. Couldn't understand my frustration. Would have been nice to have been telephoned and advised was going to take double the time. Could have gone to shops, bought the ingredients, cooked it and eaten it in that time!!! Well you live and learn. Won't be using again!!!!!

I have to be very careful that the food I eat does not contain MSG. This restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes and I am able to enjoy many as they are free from the problem.

Eaten take away from here several times in the last few months, always excellent, freshly cooked food & friendly staff. Can't recommend highly enough.

We regularly ordered from Happy Chef but are consistently disappointed with the ridiculous wait for food. Regularly you can expect to wait over an hour to collect your order. On one recent occasion we were told the food would be ready to collect in an hour. Upon arrival we waited a further 35 mins for the food. The quality is good but not worth the wait.

Best Chinese take away by far restaurant quality food and not all greasy like the majority of places

We came from Liverpool for a weeks holiday in Daventry 4 years ago at the Puma hotel (formerly Barcelo) because the hotel was by far the best offer available for a family room during the summer holidays at that time. We stumbled accross the Happy Chef on the first evening we arrived and have absolutely loved this restaurant ever since!The food is delicious, service is always beyond our expectations and the 'eat in' section is always clean.My children (teenagers) love this restaurant, come to think about it, so do I!We have now stayed at Daventry at the same hotel for a weeks holiday for 4 years running now, and always book bed and breakfast every time and look forward to our evening meals in the Happy Chef every night.This restaurant actually plays a part in our decision to come to Daventry year after year.All of the staff are just so pleasant, food fantastic and we always thoroughly enjoy every visit.We even booked a one night stay in Hinckley so we could visit Cadbury World in Birmingham for a treat for the kids, but still travelled the 40 odd miles that evening from Hinckley to visit the Happy Chef knowing that we would be very lucky if we found another restaurant just as good!It is certainly not expensive, very reasonable indeed.Probably been for evening meals on around 25 occasions now, and I can honestly say the standard has never dropped even once on any occasion.If you like Chinese food, you have to try it, you will not be disappointed!

this is our favourite chinese so far in Daventry, when this one opened we have had no need to try anymore. We love their duck and their prices are average. Good delivery time, only annoying thing is finding somewhere to park when we go and collect.

We ordered a Chinese for collection from the happy chef on Saturday evening. As there was 12 of us, we made a big order totalling almost £80. As we are regular customers and regularly place large orders, I asked the lady on the phone if she could give us some discount. At first she refused, but after I pushed her a bit she agreed to ask the manager. They offered us coke (which none of us like) so then she offered us wine (we don't drink) so I just asked for some money off the bill. She eventually offered to take the cost of the chips off the menu, saving us about £3.50 (not a great discount when we were spending £80, but I had been haggling on the phone for almost ten minutes). My parents collected the order and brought it round. When we got the food out of the bags, one of our chow mein dishes was missing! Therefore we ended up losing out after all! Normally I would have phoned and complained but as we are all the way out in crick I didn't want to have to go back to pick up one dish or get a refund for it, so we didn't bother this time. The food was amazing and all tasted great. Really enjoyed it, was just a bit disappointed with the service!

We've eaten from most of the takeaways in daventry and this is by far the best. Always fresh and tasty, sometimes a little hot but they warn you on the menu! We've also eaten in the restaurant area a couple of times and the girls are so nice and service always great. It will take something special to make us eat a chinese elsewhere.

We've used The Happy Chef both as a restaurant and take away on many occassions. The food is always great - our favourites are the dry shredded beef and the salt and pepper ribs but everything is always fresh and tasty. They adopt the simple order by numbers for takeaway and confirm the selection so we've never had an incorrect order. The service in the rstaurant is always spot on, discreet and attentive. We'll be using The Happy Chef for ever I hope!!

I don`t eat Chinese very often, but when I do, this is now my number one choice in Daventry. The quality of the food is much much better than most in the area, and it`s nice that you can eat food inside from lunchtime, right up until late evening. You can of course just use their takaway service if that suits better. Highly recommended.
