Bowan Chinese Takeaway in Daventry

Restaurant is under new ownership. Food was lovely, service was very prompt. Overall very impressed with the quality. Would definitely go there again.

For the last couple years, the chef had changed, and the quality took a bit of a dive...but recently, the original chef came back, and it is once again the best chinese in Daventry. Glad to have you back finally!

A few months ago we ordered a take away including vegetable dumplings as I cut them I noticed meat so called complained and asked for a refund, today ordered another take away making sure that I got vegetable one and yet again meat in them! I am disgusted this time I bit into them! As a life king vegetarian it made me feel ill so another call and awaiting refund! Need to find another Chinese! Oh and had to wait over 30 mins for food!

I've always loved Bowman's food but tonight I have to say it was absolutely vile. I don't often do reviews but I had a basic chicken breast chow me in. Turned up on the bone and i wished I'd cooked. If this was my first meal here I'd never go back. Thankfully I've eaten here before and will go back to my usual order, as normally the best. Everyone has a bad day and I hope I never have to repeat what I ate tonight.

We've used the Bowan for over 20 years and have never had a problem but our last visit was so disappointing, we thought it strange and believe that it has changed hands. Sorry to say we will not be going back!

So, I always used to use this take away ( for 10+ yrs), but over the last year or so, it has become a bit of a lottery as to whether it will be good or not.... Started to use the Happy Chef, but again, I’ve had some really awful meals from there.... These days, I tend to avoid these take away’s, choosing Indian instead - Little India worth a look- cooked in view of you, which is always good!

Ordered a lot of food for 8 people, the order was ready in 20 minutes that we felt was very rushed. When the order came half of the food was missing. Someone at the Bowan did notice and delivered some more of the food to us, but there was still a lot of food from our order missing after this. Very disappointed

Writing this Morning 01:30 am, if you guys speak too loud again in the backyard, I will call the police next time. Morning 01:30 am, Jesus go home talk loud! we can't sleep.

I would've recommended Bowan previously. I used to really look forward to their food. It was tasty, hot and fresh. However, this last experience has put me off going back. My chicken satay skewers were odd, not sure if the sauce was even a satay! The pancake rolls were awful, the pancake was uncooked on the inside, but very crispy (batter?) on the outside. Noodles and rice were good, as were the prawn crackers. My main- crispy chilli chicken was ok, but it used to be good. Crispy is an adjective that cannot be used to describe this dish. Overall- could do an awful lot better.

Ordered Sunday evening, spare ribs which tasted like they are been boiled rather than slow cooked, the meat was so tough it was inedible, ordered kung po pork, more batter than pork when there was pork it was tough and dry, we ended up throwing the whole lot away what a wastep of time and money, we will never spend another penny of our hard earned money in your takeaway, I suggest you reasess your chef quality control immediately

This takeaway has been a family favourite for decades! Excellent food, great customer service and delivered to your door! Prices are average but the food is brilliant.

Food is always hot ,nothing missed of order and usually delivered in time given . If collecting food you never have to wait long .

have had currys from bowen for years, ordered a beef curry full of fat and inedible! wont be going there again, you have lost a long term customer!

After a long wait and on returning home, only to find we had been give the wrong order. Back into town to return the meal and apart from a quick "Oh, I thought you’d be back. Sorry, here's your right order", that was it (This hasn’t happened again). The food was NOT the best in Daventry, by a long way. We found the food was NOT highly spiced or aromatic leaving it almost bland and lacking in the crunch of fresh vegetables commonly found with Chinese wok fried cuisine. Having said this, the “Curry” is pretty good, but it was difficult to find any other stand out dishes. In summary, the majority of dishes were quite greasy, very similar to each other and almost slimy and dull. Sorry Bowan.

my husband raves about Bowen curry, chow mein and fried rice!! The best in Daventry, we have tried other Chinese but Bowen is the best!!!

Very very very poor service, was patient with the girl who spoke absolutely no English but when it came to not being able to ask the chef if an ingredient was in the recipe due to allergy reasons because "umm no not allowed" I walked out.

my hussar raves about the beef chow mein, i' m not too keen as I am vegetarian and hate eggs!! they use eggs to stir fry the vegetables

Not my first choice these days, that accolade goes to Happy Chef, but never have any problems with Bowan, always good, never anything to complain about, and staff always friendly. Not as busy as it used to be, which is a bonus if you are in a hurry as Happy Chef take longer to prepare the food. That said, you get what you pay for, and some things are worth the wait........

Good traditional Chinese takeaway. The service is always quick and the quality good. We have recently ordered from happy chef in the town but are consistently disappointed with the ridiculous wait for food. Have returned to Bowan and we are not disappointed. Delicious.

Having lived in Daventry and northampton and tried out nearly every Chinese in our radius, I am never disappointed with Bowan.Its the best. Food always comes quickly, lovely owners, they never get our orders wrong and the dishes always taste ten times better than anywhere else we have used.

This for me is definitely the place to go for a chinese takeaway in Dav. Typical chinese takeaway menu. Very good value indeed, cheaper than many competitors, fast no-nonesense service and consistent quality. Recommended.
