Never been to authentic Japanese previously, so little knowledge regarding this food style. There was 8 in our group and all had a variety of food, the starter of 'pork squares' was my favourite!

We had a lovely dinner in Hanabi the other night. The Chicken Katsu Curry is by far the best we have ever tasted. Great prices, great service, very nice atmosphere. They also brought to the table some extra treats too (salmon portions for us to enjoy while waiting for our main courses). Delightful!

Around a month or two ago my wife and I went to Takeya for Dinner and since it was so amazing; I decided to go there for lunch today. I had the Lunch Special Bento (forgotten exact name) at £15 and it was mouthfuls of heaven in a box. The intricate flavours and combination of Sashimi, Sushi and Tempura was absolutely to die for; most importantly I was actually full after left. I have been to many places to try Japanese food / lunch including Misato, Tokyo Diner, Bento, KJ and other small boutiques across London and this was by far the best (Tokyo Diner is second, a proud and authentic Japanese restaurant). Actually I would describe the level of quality close to Sticks and Sushi in Copenhagen, Denmark (Sticks And Sushi Wimbledon lacks the finesse of both restaurants in mention and is strangely more expensive than Denmark) yet, at a third of the price tag especially, for the size of the portion. I have lived locally for 3 years and I cannot believe we only found this place recently. A must try for any Japanese/Seafood food enthusiast.

Very impressed by the service in this unassuming suburban location. It was an authentic Japanese experience with some real high points, in particular the warm green tea. My dining partner had the salmon special sushi followed by california roll selection and was very pleased. I had a grilled chicken bento box and was moderately pleased - there was a lot of food provided but it was a little bland. Service throughout was excellent and attentive. They do need to look at their branding/marketing though - is it Hanabi or Takeya? And the website could do with an update, as well as the frontage...with small changes, I think they could pack out the place!

Working locally, and loving quality Japanese food, I was very excited about the news of a new chef and a new direction at Hanabi (as of a week ago the name hadn't yet changed). The lunch deals represent superb value. We only tried a couple of pieces of sushi (it was very good) but the noodle soups and tempura were all excellent.I'm looking forward to the next time I can make it back, as are all ten of the ten people that I dined with.

We went there on the occasion of dining out without our baby-daughter, it turned out there ware many families with their kids and restaurant is quite family tolerant (service was friendly, they have high chairs but lack baby changing facilities or play area). Food was great and we will definitely be coming back. Nice feature is that you see the chef preparing sushi at the bar and we were offered complimentary tasting samples and full sushi starter when our starter was slightly delayed. Overall, great restaurant and will become our favourite local Japanese dining option. We should be trying takeaway soon.

We have been going to Hanabi for over a year now (with our two kids) and the food is one of the best Japanese experiences we have had (Excluding Nobu of course). Its our kids favourite restaurant as we often get asked... can we go to Hanabi tonight? The service is friendly, welcoming and efficient. The pork belly is to die for, along with the tempura prawns, salmon, Prawn and eel Sushi is our favourite. Salmon Teriyaki and chicken curry is awesome. There are a lot of other enjoyable elections like their soups hence we thoroughly recommend this restaurant as it is an Oasis in Raynes Park. Quality of food is far superior too the other local Japanese restaurant at a much more affordable price.

Having just got back from 3 weeks traveling around Japan I was very impressed with the authenticity and quality of the food at Hanabi. The udon broth was hearty and delicious. The Takoyaki (octopus balls) were just as good as the ones we had in Kyoto, piping hot with savoury barbecue sauce and the chef's sashimi selection was excellent. They looked after us superbly and even threw in a couple of free dishes :) and it's even reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back.

We visited Hanabi on a Wednesday evening. We had booked in advance but when we arrived, realised that we did not need to as, on a Wednesday evening it was empty. We were slightly apprehensive because of this, however, should not have been as we had a brilliant dining experience at this restaurant. When we were ready to order, the lady serving tables came over immediately to take our order. We had never tried plum wine before, so she kindly brought over a sample to try. When our drinks were brought to our table, we were also given a complementary bowl of mussels as a starter. This was a perfect appetizer as it did not fill you up in advance of the main courses arriving. The food was wonderful, very nicely presented on long dishes, all of the sushi that you order is brought on one long plate with wasabi and ginger. We ordered a selection of nigiri, maki and sashimi which all had perfectly seasoned rice. When we had finished, we were brought some oranges whilst waiting for the bill. For sushi, this was a very reasonable restaurant and we will definitely be visiting again and advise others to as well!

Just visited this restaurant, which is Japanese with a smattering of Korean dishes (I think the staff that evening were Korean, not Japanese). It all seemed very authentic though and everything was delicious - in particular the miso eggplant and gyoza (both amazingly good), the mixed tempura and the salmon and tuna sashimi. Dragon roll was also excellent. The only one that was vaguely so-so was the tamago sushi, but that's nit-picking. We had a jar of hot sake, and were offered complementary steamed mussels to start. Although we drove half an hour to get to this place (we are from further out of town and figured this was the nearest GENUINE Japanese to us), we will return. Easy parking opposite at Waitrose (free from 6pm). Our utterly delicious meal (with delightful service) was GBP60. We will be back!

Stumbled upon Hanabi by complete accident one evening in Sept 2013 and must have been back a dozen times since. I had never been the greatest fan of Japanese food having only ever really tried it in chain restaurants but was utterly blown away by the welcome, the service and especially the food. Even raw-fishaphobes will be pleasantly surprised as their cooked and carpaccio meats are superb. A MUST TRY if you're in the area

Only came here for the first time as it was BYOB but that was less than two weeks ago and we've been back here twice since. Care and attention was taken to every order and the owners were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure that our tastes were met. We were slightly novice at ordering Japanese food but were never made to feel embarrassed about the questions we asked and can honestly say it is some of the tastiest food we have ever eaten. TRY IT IF YOU CAN!!

We have been to most of the Japanese restaurants in this area and find Hanabi to be the best. It is generally quiet and so we have never had to book in advance unlike Hashi around the corner. We are always greeted at the door by the friendly staff. it seems like a family run business and the atmosphere is homely and authentic. The menu covers most things that people who crave Japanese food would want (sushi, sashimi, various noodle dishes, katsu etc) with several more unusual items. The food is fresh and attractive but simply presented, the waiting staff take extra care when serving the dishes, not just plonking them down infront of you, but making sure they present them to you in the best light. It is not fancy food - its wholesome and tasty! We suggest the braised pork belly, kaki (oyster) fry, tempura soba (buckwheat noodles - very earthy flavour), grilled capellin (like whitebait but larger). We also like the chocolate mochi very much. The pricing is average, but we have been lucky to have been given extras on the house from time to time; mussels in broth, chilled orange segments and other little dishes which have made us feel very welcome and shown us great hospitality, making this somewhere we really enjoy coming to. Shame they don't open on Sundays too!

Tried a few Japanese restaurants in the area and have to say Hanabi is up with the best. The highlights are the service and the fresh food. I think the platters are great value for money as well. It is probably not as lively/decorated as neighbouring Hashi but the food is as good and a touch cheaper. Great option if you are up for trying something new around Wimbledon.

We visited Hanabi for a family meal and everything was yummy. We got a lovely taster of summer pickled vegetables and soft delicious tofu to start. The Gyoza was especially good -cripsy on the outside and soft and fragrant on the inside: yumyum. All the cooked food we had (tempura, teriyaki, udon noodles) was delicious and of course the sushi - top notch. Family run business, attentive service, great place to go for delicious Japanese food of an excellent standard.
