We had the mini fish chips and mushy peas. The portion was more than adequate. We sat in as it was quiet. £7.00 a portion so good value. Cash only which wasn’t a problem for us.

She told us AFTER handing us our ice cream they were cash-only. No signs in the window, no signs on the counter. It’s 2024 get a card reader!! She told us, there’s a cash machine ‘next door’ at the amusements. Which was actually about 10 minute walk down the street and cost £1.50 to withdraw cash. Definitely not worth the hassle for mediocre ice cream.

I visited today and won't be returning, the 2 girls serving had zero basic social skills not to mention the customer service. My daughter asked for an ice cream and was handed it plain, no offer of a flake, sauce or sprinkles I had to ask for it. Very strange atmosphere they clearly hate their job. The Mr whippy ice cream tasted sour, returned it to be told it tasted fine but was able to exchange for a different brand of ice cream, no refund given or offer of more donuts considering I had paid for donuts and ice cream on a tray and the donuts were covered in sour, off ice cream. I wasn't the only one who thought it tasted sour there was 3 of us and none of us could eat it. It was also very over priced for what we got.

I had some donuts.12 for £5. Bargain right? No! The donuts where the size of a £2 coin. Absolute disgusting rip off. Never again.

CASH ONLY and great ice cream...I was delighted this shop uses cash only because the government is fast bringing in a cashless digital society of slavery which will give government total control over everywhere you go, when you go, and control over everything you do and buy. USE CASH OR LOSE IT...When its gone its gone, and gone for not just you but for people who have not yet been born, who rely on you and what you do or don't do now to protect their freedoms..Halls has 6 businesses in Matlock Bath ALL CASH ONLY....Well done Hall's...

We queried the prices, the woman had already told by the staff to go outside to be served although the ice cream was inside, I then overheard the staff talking about my friends saying they were abusive and aggressive, I then questioned them as they had not at all been either if anything the two ladies that served us were, they told us we should find more friends

A lovely day out in Matlock Bath was marred by an extremely rude server at this establishment. After placing an order for numerous ice creams and slushies and holding my phone in my hand clearly ready to contactless pay the lady waits until the very last item has been handed over to children and only then reveals that they take cash only. And when told we do not have physical cash advises that there is a cash machine across the road but it’s empty however there is a further machine several hundred yards down the street where I can withdraw funds. She was clearly very well versed in pointing people to these cash machines. So, i left everyone eating their ice creams & duly did as instructed however upon arrival at said cash machine discovered that this too was empty. I would like to also point out also that this cash machine charges for withdrawing your funds. I returned to Halls of Derbyshire with this information to be then told I should do a bank transfer of funds instead. However, my bank does not enable me to make transfers to new payees unless I have the card reader with me which I obviously do not carry around with me in the minuscule chance that this situation might ever arise. At this point I politely pointed out that might it not have been a good idea to mention that they only take cash before handing over all the ice creams? I expected her professional reply to be an apology for not revealing this information sooner but that she’s very sorry and it was simply an oversight. What I actually got was a very rude response telling me that the cash machine is only down the road. I said that that may be so however she still should have either mentioned this or have a sign up saying cash only. She again repeated that the cash machine is not far away in a very rude manner. I explained that I didn’t want to argue with her to which she interrupted me and told me that she wasn’t the one that was arguing, but that I was. At this point I was pretty stressed & upset about how I was going to pay for these (by now half eaten) ice creams. Thankfully my friend who also had no cash was able to get a signal on her phone and do a bank transfer. Now, I understand contactless machines are expensive to use and businesses would rather not pay the fee’s associated with them. I also understand that signals are temperamental in the area. What I do expect though are manners & transparency of which there was none. From the other reviews on her I suspect that this tactic of is used multiple times a day as they know fully well that if they reveal to people in advance that they only take cash then many people will just move on to the next establishment which does take card payments thus losing them a sale. By not revealing this information until your children are literally holding the items you are then obligated to pay for them one way or another. This is not acceptable trading & this one transaction spoilt an otherwise beautiful day in Matlock Bath.

Staff Was friendly but 2 teaspoons of ice cream is not acceptable for £4.50 even with the cost of living crisis. Avoid... Get a tub of ice cream Iceland or coop

Cash only, so you have to pay £1.50 next door to withdraw cash. The staff are miserable. The ice cream lacks any discernible taste. The doughnuts were abysmal… they looks like onion rings!

Having visited Halls fish and chips, and Ice cream parlor for several years. I've always experienced nothing but nice, helpful, friendly staff and good quality food and drinks. (The hot chocolate is wonderful!) The staff really make you feel welcome and ask how your days been. The prices are affordable and I've never been disappointed. (They are much cheaper than anywhere else I know) The Shops are in a nice location, and are closer than visiting skegness. I much prefer Matlock Bath and it's seaside feel any day of the week. And I will continue to do so for many more years to come. I highly recommend Halls of Matlock to everyone.

This is the Hall's confectionary and ice cream shop. Massive variety of sweets and ice cream but prices for some products are short of obscene. £1:50 for a single Twinkie! There are £4 a box in Iceland absolutely astounding. We opted for ice cream and it's £4 for a double scoop, top end of what I'd expect to pay, but the scoops are quite small compared to other establishments. Then to top it all the don't take card! In this day and age why don't you have a card reader? But the irony is the signs for social distancing and wearing masks, but more than happy with handling cash! The fact that I had to pay a fee of £1:50 at the amusement arcade to get the money was the cherry on top. The ice cream was good but overall needs to be brought into the modern day.

Came in last night bought a chocolate mint nougat and it is out of date by 2 months I didn’t realise until I got home later last night

We called in here yesterday on way home admittedly around 8.45 pm think theu close at 9 on illumination we were choosing sweets girl from behind counter shouted hurry up please closing in 10 mins we moved to choose more she then shouted can you hurry up please im closing if it had nt been we had already chosen we would have walked out our order came to over £20 cash only she said her whole manner was downright rude

If you like anaemic under cooked chips with black bits on them then this is the place for you . Didn’t know chips could be so bad whole new experience .

Had the misfortune of running into the rude old lady who works in the shop. Served the tiniest amount of ice cream possible with a vile attitude when we questioned the quantity. When I explained how rude she had been, the lady on death's door responded with "Yes, I am" in a proud tone. Just had to laugh it off! Felt sorry for the young member of staff who had to 1. Witness that and 2. Put up with her regularly. Avoid.

Halls Ice Cream - the rudest customer service I have experienced in a long time. We were rudely told it was ‘cash only’ once the ice-cream was served. Served ice cream and passed cone and handled money without gloves or hand sanitising (not exactly Covid secure!). Very small scoops of average quality ice cream. Certainly will not be returning.

After serving our 2, 5 year olds and 2 year old their ice creams and they started eating them they then told us it was cash only. As we had no cash they made the boys throw their icecreams in the bin. Absolutely disgusting, I’m unsure how tmyou could take an ice cream off a child. They were all devastated and threw their ice creams in the bin. Needless to say we will not be returning here. I could have transfered them the money had they given me their details but apparently they would rather be wasteful, disappoint 3 young children and ensure they have no further custom from 2 local Mums.

The ice cream and food is the worst i have come across. Terrible service, lack of good hygiene from staff. It’s a shame because it appears “halls of Derbyshire” occupy a number of the shops along Matlock bath therefore serving the same crap at all of them. Don’t waste your money!

Customer service is shockingly rude, in all halls shops in matlock bath it is cash only. No signs saying this, only tell you when about to pay. One family already had all of their ice creams served, then they point you to a nearby cash point that is not free to use. One of the shops tried to tell us it was due to a 'signal problem' that was impacting the street (turns out not as we had no problem anywhere else) judging by other reviews and the fact it was cash only last time we came about a year ago I feel as though something odd is going on in the background scenes of these shops. Very over priced would not reccomend.

Do not eat here! The worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Over priced and cash only. Had a lovely swim with friends at Matlock Spa open air pool and called here for a meal. The chips were under cooked and tasteless, the peas watery, the batter too greasy and inedible. Still suffering from indigestion five hours later. All served on a tiny styrofoam tray and a small plastic fork. The server was obviously trained at Fawlty Towers! Enough said ….

This business only accepts ‘cash only’ because they likely out nothing through the taxman to fiddle the taxman.In this day and age where no one carries dirty cash, and best responsible practice is to use contactless payment it is very poor. Particularly when then are continuously handling cash and then ice cream cones.

Got the order wrong but refunded us for that,so that wasn’t a major issue. I thought it was over priced at nearly £15 for 2xchips sausage and curry and 1 mini fish.After being told to wait out side in the cold for 5 mins (no idea why because we could see everything we ordered in the glass and plenty of it) we was shouted in for our food. I couldn’t actually believe the portion size! Not even kids size’s in my eyes never mind £15 worth of food.We ended up chucking the rock hard,cold chips and greasy fish away and went to the promenade chippy just up the road. Prices a bit better and food 100% better

Took my daughter to Matlock bath for the day as we are both frontlines and need a break. Wanted to treat her. So I first took her to halls for ice cream and sweets. In fact we went in both halls shops. Woman in first shop only informed us it was cash only after I had ordered my daughters ice cream. No sign at door. Not informed by VERY RUDE staff on ordering. But they waited till asking for money leaving me look a complete idiot as in COVID we have been told not to use cash. The way that staff in both shops spoke to me was so rude. I was completely unaware both shops were the same people till after. Being shouted at in front of other customers who also leave empty handed. Yes Karen I know cash is legal tender you complete witch but we have been told by boris not too.so mad. Take a course in customer service and make sure that money goes through the books cos you won’t be getting any more off me

Greasiest chips we’ve ever experienced. Thick, undercooked batter on fish and sausages. Seven meals ended up in the bin and we went to a different fish and chip shop instead.

We only had chips and a drink but they were very average at best, expensive and small portions. There’s lots of other fish & chips shops locally, I would give them a try!

Visited with the family and got 3 portions of fish and chips with curry sauce, plus 1 battered sausage and chips. The fish was dry and overcooked, in a greasy batter. The sausage was grisly with a thick soggy batter and also extremely greasy. Chips on all portions were hard and drowning in a very vinegary curry sauce. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Popped in on Saturday as I saw they advertised donuts with sauce.I bought 8 of the mini donuts with a Nutella sauce for £4, which I thought was quite expensive anyway.Expected it to come on a tray with the donuts, sauce drizzled over and a spoon to eat it with...No, it came in a paper bag and then I was given two Nutella pouches (the type you’d get for breakfast in a hotel)The women on the dessert bar were so rude when I asked about it, said it’s donuts and Nutella what else do you want?Honestly can’t believe it, would never go back!! £4 for 8 ten pence sized donuts an absolute joke!

Mini fish and chips £3.90 with mushy peas great value for money. The fish was cooked beautifully lovely white cod and boneless. Only discrepancy £1.10 for a can of pop. Otherwise faultless 👌

Firstly - this Trip Advisor Entry seems to be covering 2 of the Halls Shops.on North Parade in Matlock Bath. My review is about Halls Traditional Sweets and Confectionary at 104 North Parade.We've been here a few times before and enjoyed an Ice Cream sat in the cool area against the cliff behind the shop. This time we thought we'd have a milk shake, it turned out not to be such a good idea.Started OK, the assistant went to get the cold milk from the fridge - the milk shake itself was nothing special and a bit pricey. The problem was that when my wife drank down near the bottom there appeared to be something on the bottom of the glass. We checked - it wasn't underneath it must have been inside. On closer inspection it looked like mold or at least dirty marks.I went to show this to the manageress and she wasn't interested. She just said "I don't know" and passed the glass to the assistant and said she'd better throw the rest of this out. No apology - no offer of remedy - she then carried on with what she was doing. I was obviously not going to get any further conversation from her and so we left. So two things: 1) there was a problem with the cleanliness of the glass and 2) they weren't bothered enough to do anything about it.We won't be going again.

5 single scoop ice creams, 5 small packets of sweets, 2 coffees and 2 bottles of juice for £26.50!! There's expensive and then there's this!! Absolutely extortionate. Just to rub salt into the wound - the coffee was weak and poor quality, and the ice cream and sweets were distinctly average. I have nothing positive to say about this place.

We stopped here after walking Lovers Walk with our dog. There was so much to choose from in the shop from sweets to chocolate waffles and if course ice cream. My partner had a double cone with 2 flakes which cost £3.60. An icecream lover through and through he enjoyed it but didn't think it was worth the price. They had a seating area outside that was clean and tidy and there was no issue with us having our dog with us. It was a nice end to a lovely walk.

The machines were well maintained and are having very generous payouts. They also give you any prize that gets stuck. Friendly helpful staff were happy to help with my stuck coins

After walking around Matlock Bath decided to call into a fish & chip shop for just a snack. How pleasantly surprised we were to find mini fish, chips & mushy peas for £3.50. This was superb value because the mini fish was not mini, it was more like your average size found in many fish & chip shops. Cooked well and most enjoyable. Can highly recommend. Will definitely call again when in the area.

First of all I shall start with saying that I regularly call in for some sweets with my daughter , today was no exception. My daughter selected her sweets and we paid the young lady on the bottom till and then went to leave the shop . The elderly lady that was further up the shop then chased after me yelling at me that the tills were this way . Even after I told her I had paid the £1.50 for the pack of sweets she was still shouting at me to pay . The young lady was very polite but the elderly lady clearly has no customer service skills what so ever , she really should have better manners at her age ! Will not use again nor recommend.

Lovely ice-cream, not 5 star in terms of flavour and was quite pricey but on a hot day was a great refreshment. The experience was soured slightly though because of the server in the window who demanded "just pick a cone already". Probably wouldn't return, you win some, you loose some

I purchased two single scooped ice creams today from Halls of Derbyshire in Matlock Bath for my grandchildren, two scoops of ice cream = £5 if I am honest I don’t think I have ever paid so much for so little - ever, I’ll never go there again that’s for sure .

We had mini fish chips n peas . Mini fish was succulent fresh skinless , boneless and very tasty with beutiful golden batter and large size. Chip were gold crispy and very tasty. Peas were green and tasty. 2 mini fish chips and 2 fruit shoots for under a tenner. Absolute bargain.10/10

Me and my husband visited hall of Derbyshire today had fish chips, and fish chips and peas loved the fish cod fresh tasty batter chips cooked just right staff friendly very clean business I’m sure we’ll be going again beautiful food. 🐟🐟🐟👍🏻

A lovely way to spend time eating ice cream. Lots of lovely flavours and cone types but not a stupid price. The garden at the rear to chill in while you eat your ice cream is lovely

They forgot beans on one order, some of the chips were undercooked and the chicken & mushroom pie would've been better described as an air pie.

After finding a parking space walked back to this ice cream parlour the choices on offer was very good and tasted delicious it's a must visit place if in the area.

Mini fish and chips was disgusting as fish batter was very hard and looked dark, how old us the cooking oil. I can see why this was the only place that had space inside in the whole of matlock bath

Visited Matlock on Boxing Day for the raft race. Stopped off at Halls for their small fish chips and mushy peas. All their fish is skinless and boneless so just how we like it. Great value at £3.50 each and just the thing for lunchtime. Service was good too.

We usually visit Matlock a couple of times per month as a treat will pull up for some chips. (Usually taste of the waves) but due to parking we found ourselves out side this place. Advertised small fish chips and peas £3.50 So my husband ordered to go. Only to be talked down to and advised no fish! So we just ordered chips and peas which can to roughly the same amount. Very rudely when we questioned how he could do a fish for the same amount he said just how big do you think the fish would be. All I can say I'm glad we only had a small chip and peas as they were awful. Rude staff, over priced, awful. Dread to think what you get for the £3.50 SMALL FISH & CHIP If they even exist.

We went in to buy 2 hot drinks for myself and a friend and asked if they had a bowl of water for the dog which they kindly put out for us. My children decided to start eating their sandwiches from their bags which we had no intentions of eating in there but they were hungry. I went to ask for a napkin as there was a spillage and the lady behind the counter insisted on being rude when she opened her mouth as she said sarcastically "I'm surprised you didn't have a napkin with your picnic and it would have been nice to have been asked if they could eat in here". Then continued to tell every customer that came in. I don't mind being told something as I completely understand but there is no need to be so rude as my children heard everything. Good manners doesn't cost a thing. The lady said you only bought 2 coffees but we also bought ice cream aswell. Despise rude people!!!

Estábamos pasando por Matlock y como era un lugar de aparcamiento justo fuera, decidimos parar. Ordenados los peces mini, patatas fritas y guisantes en £3 - 50 por cabeza. El pescado estaba rodeado por una masa pasada y el pescado en sí tenía un sabor extraño y textura que no parecerse a cod. Mi esposa suya a la izquierda. La porción era muy pequeño. Afortunadamente Las patatas fritas, también una poción muy pequeño eran de la media en el mejor mientras que los guisantes blandos estaban bien. El servicio era bueno y amable. No puedo recomendar este lugar y espero que los visitantes extranjeros evitar menos que creo que nuestros paladares y los estándares son tan nefasto.

Tuvimos que probar este lugar porque anuncia que pescado, patatas fritas y mini salsa curry o guisantes por £3 blandos. 50 pero cada vez que llegamos allí nos vendieron como que bastante temprano en la noche. De todos modos finalmente nos tuvimos suerte y nos impresionó mucho, la calidad de los peces era fantástica y la cantidad adecuada para alguien con un apetito de tamaño medio o pequeño. La salsa de curry fue genial, sin duda, mejor que la mayoría de tiendas de pescado frito con patatas fritas y la señora sirve como con una sonrisa. ¿Qué más se puede pedir 3 libras. 50 por cabeza? Altamente recomendado.

Decidimos llamar hoy para té, todos los 4 de nosotros,, así que mi marido y mi hijo sentado a una mesa en el exterior. Yo estaba parado cerca de la puerta comprobando si los chips de queso que mi hija estaba entretenida, cuando, de repente, un muy, muy grosero miembro masculino del personal empujado me pasaron muy enfadados porque gritando 'hey, estás bloqueando la entrada! ! ! Yo estaba absolutamente horrorizados y furiosos por la ignorancia bastante y la falta de educación. Entramos y fuimos a Turners más adelante en donde tuvimos el mejor pescado y patatas fritas de todos! ! ! ! Nunca volveremos a salas si fue la última "fish and chips" en la tierra! ! ! ! Asqueroso! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Con muchos peces y articulaciones chip para elegir en Matlock Bath, desafortunadamente elegimos este. Hay una notable falta de ambiente sobre el lugar y la comida y el servicio son muy por debajo de la media. Yo iba a tener el pescado y patatas fritas' como ini un viaje anterior a Matlock Bath y una visita a una "fish and chips" con su porción me cautivó mini (según uno de mis comentarios anteriores Tripadvisor). Afortunadamente, la señora delante de mí en la cola y pidió un mini mini no era, era enano! (comparado con la competencia local).

Lovely little place hidden amongst the little treasure trove of shops. Lovely food and cheap too, well worth a visit.

Me and my partner popped into the halls of Derbyshire for some ice cream. The shop is lovely and bright and has a great selection of sweets. Will defiantly visit again.

Called here whilst visiting Matlock Bath friendly with fair prices but wasn't my cup of tea as the staff seemed as though u was just another customer in their shop I wont be going back

Este bonito y pequeño lugar no parece mucho, pero chico, qué sorpresa su paladar en tienda. Una vez pasada la mente variedad alucinantes de sabores para elegir. Prepárese para un regalo! Probé el helado de coco (coco sabe como el atractivo diseño redondeado está disponible desde un atractivo diseño redondeado está disponible de fábrica yummmmmy) mi otra mitad tenía menta choc chip y nuestros amigos en limón, malteser y mezclas preparadas. No me decepcionó y, encima, llegamos a sentarse al sol y ver todas las bicicletas, por menos dinero de lo que habría pagado el helado van a pararse.

When ever we pop to Matlock we always have our fish and chips here £3 for mini fish chips and peas. Great every time also ice cream tub and mr whippy type. Would ever go anywhere else.

The price of the ice creams we bought today were £3.20 each for a cone with two scoops. Either the scoops were very small or they were not filled as the offering was very meagre. We won't be returning.

We got an ice cream from here and the gentleman serving us had filthy hands and black nails, handling the cone and flake with his bare hands. Totally unacceptable and unhygienic!

Un fish and chips almuerzo rápido, me paraba afuera Hall es así que decidimos hace. que era el destino con el pasado, 'el pescado tradicional del REAL y patatas fritas, recién cocinado con ese sabor real.

Hemos comido en este lugar unas cuantas veces. Mientras que todas las otras tiendas de chocolate en Matlock Bath cobran más de £4 por su mini pescado y patatas fritas, éste sólo £3, sin embargo el precio más barato no significa una menor calidad. Fue una excelente comida y excelente servicio del personal. Recomiendo este lugar para una gran relación calidad-precio y un servicio estupendo

Mi novio y yo vinimos por algo de comer mientras estábamos en baño Matlock. Me dijo que había pescado y patatas fritas, y yo tuvimos patatas fritas, salchichas y salsa.

Después de un paseo por la mañana en Matlock Bath visitamos Halls tras contemplar su oferta de pequeñas patatas fritas de pescado y guisantes blandos por 3 libras y que sólo sirven skinless y peso deshuesado Cod. Excelente relación calidad-precio justo lo suficiente de tiempo para el almuerzo y la porción de pescado era más grande de lo que esperábamos. Hay asientos en el interior pero nos sentamos en uno de los bancos en Matlock Bath ya que era un buen día.
