Haar at Home in Perth & Kinross

Enjoyed a very memorable stay and meal at Haar. The lobster was personally recommended by Dean and was the best lobster I’ve ever tasted. The staff were very attentive and the food didn’t disappoint. Looking forward to another visit.

I was absolutely NOT IMPRESSED when the box arrived, as it looked very little food for your money. HOWEVER ... it turned out to be an ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT meal. My husband followed the instructions to the letter, and we LOVED the whole experience. This was a lovely birthday present from my daughter, and her hubbie - but we would DEFINITELY buy it again for ourselves as a special treat!

We were gifted a voucher for our 25th wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a great seafood treat. How wrong we were! We ordered the crab and lobster ‘luxury box’ literally nothing luxurious about this meal. The starter was dressed crab with a bland coleslaw style salad. Main was half a small lobster each with a bag of broccoli and some potatoes…yep that’s it for the grand price of £80 😳😳. You could easily source this meal from a quality supermarket for a fraction of the cost and throw in a decent bottle of wine! Absolutely can’t recommend for the price being charged…a total rip off. Shocking!

Very poor value for a so-called luxury product. Content did not match the pictures/description. The elements included did not in anyway justify the price.

My wife and I have enjoyed many excellent Haar at Home and Wagyu Burger meals over the last couple of years and we have never been disappointed. This weekend we had the limited edition 'Dulse at Home', combining the wonderful modern seafood dishes from Dulse with the excellence of Haar at Home, and it was excellent. When we first opened the box, we were a wee bit concerned it didn’t look like very much, but the portions were perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the different flavours. Preparation was very straightforward and it was a lot of fun recreating the artistic dishes. We haven’t managed to visit Dulse in person yet and this was a great way to sample some of the dishes. Please repeat this one.

I ordered the crab and lobster box. On the expected day of delivery I was called to say I would not be getting my delivery and it would arrive the next day. Far from ideal as I had ordered it for a celebratory dinner and didn't want it the next day. I asked for my delivery fee back and was told they would contact me again once I had recieved the delivery to discuss it. The delivery came on the Saturday and i was less than impressed. The crab meat was good but was suggested to be served with an over powering coleslaw which was not great. The lobster halves were the smallest I had seen, they tasted ok but we got 4 mouthfuls each. This is a £70 box of food that you cook yourself, i had £20 off but still felt it was terrible value for what i had. I didn't think the instructions were great either. I have had Rick Stein and Cote at Home boxes as they are far superior. When I contacted the company again for a refund of my delivery they said that there was a £15 admin fee for my £10 refund so it wouldn't make sense. Whilst i accept there are admin fees for me changing my mind I have never heard of an admin fee for a customer goodwill refund. Have been left totally and utterly disappointed by the whole experience and it definitely ruined what was planned to be a special meal

My husband requested a ‘really nice meal’ for his birthday and suggested we see if anywhere was still doing ‘at home’ meal boxes like we enjoyed during lockdown. We have a 9 month old baby so going out is tricky. I was delighted to find ‘haar at home’ and we ordered the luxury surf and turf box. The food arrived in lovely packaging and was still perfectly chilled. I really enjoyed the balance of preparation required at home and the stuff that arrived prepared. Although I did think the instructions could have been structured more clearly, I was impressed how well I was able to cook the meat when I followed them! The food was all absolutely delicious and I could not fault any part of it. Our topic of conversation throughout the meal was what other special occasions we could use as an excuse to order another box!

Crab and Linguine luxury box. I appreciate that what makes for a good meal is very much a personal thing. However, I am not new to eating out in 'good' restaurants and whilst I have yet to try this brand of restaurant I must say that on the back of this meal in a box I certainly won't be wasting either my time or my money on this one. This was supposed to be a 'special' meal for my wife and myself and to be frank, it wasn't very nice at all. The portions were small and the taste was - disappointing to the extreme. We have had far better Lobster and Crab in places such as Lobster Hut in the US. I guess reading some of the reviews that it would be fair to say that the transition from the Restaurant Kitchen to the Box at home has essentially failed.

My husband was given a voucher for the Crab and Linguine luxury box. Firstly, we were advised the delivery window would be 08.00 - 12.00. After arranging our day to suit delivery, the meal arrived at 14.20. When we opened the box we were shocked to find a packet of dry pasta when ‘artisan pasta’ was on the menu. Surely it should have been fresh pasta! When we made the meal, it looked anything but appetising it didn’t taste much better. The chipotle chilli was far too powerful for the crab and we could barely taste it. The dessert and wine were ok. We are regular diners at Michelin restaurants and although we weren’t expecting Michelin food, we certainly expected tasty food and value for money. Something better than your average Italian meal. We had planned a visit to Pompadour but will certainly not be visiting after this experience.

Having received their emails for a while and admired their products, I was very excited to order the luxury lobster and crab box as a 40th wedding anniversary gift for my parents (to fit with the Ruby 40th)! I had ordered this a few weeks in advance, with the delivery scheduled perfectly in time for the day itself. On the day of delivery (Friday), I received both an email from the delivery company (APC) as well as HAAR at home to say that the delivery had been delayed but that the food would be still fresh and delivered the following day (Saturday). Saturday comes, and no food arrives, nor have I had any correspondence or updated tracking details from APC and I can't get in contact with either HAAR at home or APC via phone or email. Monday arrives and there is no answer still from HAAR at home on the phone (despite both times being within advertised opening hours) nor response to multiple emails. The box arrives, and unsurprisingly contents are no longer cold. Multiple days later I have still not had any response to any form of contact despite multiple attempts over a number of days and frankly am very disappointed. I appreciate that sometimes delivery delays are out of HAAR at home's hands, however I am very let down by the clear lack of customer service, particularly for a box costing almost £100 - I have not had any response to emails nor any contact for what is effectively a faulty product provided. It wasn't my intention to gift my parents food poisoning for their wedding anniversary...

Having spent a not insubstantial sum on food for a dinner party for six people, I was very disappointed to be called after 1pm on the day of delivery to be told that the parcel would not arrive and with no suggestion from Eunice (Customer Services) as to how remedy for the problem caused to me might be found. I have previously ordered from Haar at Home for a Burns Night meal for friends and was pleased, but this is not a company to be relied upon if you have made a commitment to others for a special occasion. It is a great shame. Food quality is undoubtedly good but the service is not reliable and when something goes wrong, no responsibility is taken so the customer is the one who is expected to pay the price for the consequences of failure. When it goes well, it is fine, but if something goes wrong, don't expect the company to do anything except leave you in the lurch. Not very impressive and won't use them again as a consequence - there are other companies providing similar services but who look after you much better.

We ate at Haar In St Andrew’s a couple of years ago, and were wowed by the experience. This is the second Best of Land and Sea box we have ordered from Haar at Home (we live a long way from the restaurant 😢) and both times we have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The dressed crab was gorgeous (marked down to 9.9 by me for a bit of shell, but you can’t have everything), the lobster was sublime, and the steak : the star of the show for me; possibly the best I have ever eaten, certainly the best I have ever cooked! I was going to email the team about the steak seasoning as I couldn’t work out the aniseedy smell - but after a quick trip through my spices I got that sorted. A fabulous evening’s dining at home for a very reasonable price. Thanks, Dean and the team- - loved it!!

We had friends staying this weekend who had suggesting trying the Burns night special. I typically spend a lot on eating out and procuring good ingredients to cook, but on looking at the website, I was pretty shocked by the price. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a go, and having made Wellington a number of times, I was pleased that this would come over-ready. Perhaps it was clear from the website, but what arrived was not in fact oven-ready and no instructions were included in the box. After finding the instructions online, we thankfully read them start to finish before beginning - if we had simply followed them, we would have eaten our starter about 2.5 hours before our main course. Overall, the food was fine, but it was the worst Wellington I have made at home and by far the most expensive. If I had wanted to make this from scratch, I could have purchased the ingredients from Waitrose or the butcher for a fraction of the price. Now that restaurants are open, I can’t understand why anyone would spend this much on some ingredients that can be procured with less hassle from the supermarket. The money would have been better spent covering a nice meal out (which it easily would have done considering this doesn’t include any wine).

Background - I bought a luxury box at the beginning of lockdown, from memory was almost £200. Unfortunately was a wholly disappointing experience. The packaging was damaged upon arrival, probably due to the very flimsy expanded polystyrene used, which wasn’t a great start, especially on a hot day with seafood inside. Worse was to follow - the meal for two contained a single steak which weighed in at a less than generous 9oz including packaging and very large proportion of fat. It was very far from the glorious piece of steak on the website and video cooking instructions of course… Finally, the instructions included were for the wrong meal and there were none online either for the menu we had so we had to make most of it it up ourselves. I called to express my utter disappointment, was eventually offered £20 off my next purchase (didn’t feel minded to ever order again at this point), paltry given what had happened and the cost. Fast forward six months and I decide to give Haar another go, wish I hadn’t bothered. Box turned up at 1.35, despite a large “deliver before 12” sticker on it. No seasoning and no sauce, and as others have commented, the menu picture clearly shows a bottle of wine, which is not included. Misleading at best. Sorry Dean, you may well be a talented chef but show little credibility as a businessman; even if your team or delivery partners let you down it’s your name front and centre. Btw, I really want to support restaurants in these difficult times but won’t be buying again.
