Gyros in South Ayrshire

Gyros is a great little Greek restaurant/café in Ayr. The atmosphere is chilled out with relaxed friendly service. The Greek coffee is excellent and you won't find a cheaper coffee in Ayr. My partner and I have been twice for a light meze lunch and will be back again: a new favourite.

Best food in Ayr. It feels like you’re abroad once you step into the restaurant. The food was full of flavour and good price. Service was exceptional. It is nice to see that this Greek restaurant has maintained its authenticity. I’ve gone out for food in ayr before and i am usually disappointed due to lack of authenticity, flavour and atmosphere in other restaurants, but Gyro’s has won my heart! Even the music suited the place. More restaurants like Gyro’s should open up in Ayr! We dined in and brought our own bottle of wine, lovely experience. Will certainly come back.

Great food, service, atmosphere and prices! Definitely recommend. A nice change of pace from the other restaurants in the area, Gyros has real authenticity about it. The music, the food and the service transports you yo Greece and I love it. Definitely will return.

Had the 30 quid platter which was enough for two. Take your own wine, they are not licenced. Puddings are lush. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

As we drove into Ayr, I said to my husband I'd love some Greek food but we only knew a couple of places in/near Glasgow. We walked down the high street and saw Gyros open so decided to venture in. Sat outside as it was roasting hot! Lovely atmosphere, good choice of food and the staff were lovely. I had the chicken gyros and John had the pork chops (he did want Lamb Kleftico but they didn't have any) The gyros were lovely, the pitta was nice and soft, the Tzatziki was lovely and full of flavour and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The chips were also lovely!! John really enjoyed his pork chops and it was clean plates all round! Great wee place, would definitely recommend!

I have wanted to try this place for ages. Phoned to book a table a few nights ago and it was one of the rudest phone calls I’ve ever had. From looking at the other reviews, service and staff seems to be a common problem. I will never know what the food is like as I will never eat somewhere where the people are so rude. You shouldn’t speak to anyone the way I was spoken to, never mind in the service industry.

Bit disappointing. No side plates to share starters. No sparkling water . No ice in glasses for drinks we did get. Plates too small for main course so food fell out over onto table. Shame . Was really looking forwards to it but won't be back.

Ordered a plate of chicken gyros and it didn't disappoint, very tasty and plentiful. Fantastic service, very reasonably priced and a great menu to choose from. A lovely place to enjoy traditional Cypriot/Greek dishes. A credit to the owners and a great addition to ayr. I highly recommend a visit. Mia yperochi episkepsi, efcharisto para poli, ta leme.

Stumbled on this place by chance when on a day visit to Ayr and looking for a place for lunch. Absolutely loved it. Kleftico was among the best I’ve ever tasted. Friendly and welcoming service. Highly recommend and would definitely visit again when next in Ayr

Good, simple Greek food. Clean and friendly restaurant. Succulent,tender lamb wrap, and very tasty. Ayr lacks variety, and the more it has like this,the better for Ayr.

Great Greek food. There’s no other way of saying this; this is proper greek food. Love being here and I will most definitely come again. !!!!!!

We (MIL, partner and myself) were looking forward to trying this place and unfortunately we came away disappointed. First of all the place was freezing cold. It was a cold night but, the shop was bitter.🥶 So, for our starters we shared the calamari and a mushroom garlic thing, I can’t remember the name of it right now. Basically portobello mushrooms fried with garlic. We only got a half portion of that but, they said they added more calamari to make it up…and I wish they hadn’t tbh.😒 We all got the chicken gyros. 2 wrapped and 1 on a plate to see what the difference was. Just all open on the plates and rolled up in the wrap.🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyhoo, the calamari was out of a frozen packet. It was horrid! Soggy batter, rubbery “fish” molded into breaded rings with no dip. We did ask for a dip and got one no probs. Being in Ayr we thought the calamari may be fresh or at least real but, no.🙁 The mushrooms were watery and not that good either. The gyros were wrapped with chips and salad with tzatziki and there was a lot more chips than meat. The gyros tasted fine, the meat was average, nothing special. We have all had gyros (minus the chips) in different places in Greece and all agreed these ones from this shop were not a patch on them. The staff (the younger man) was friendly enough, the older man didn’t say much if anything at all. Sorry to say but, we probably won’t go back or recommend this place to anyone else.🤷🏻‍♀️

Good food, portions are small for the price but good food non the less

Great Greek food with a good variety from gyros to souvlaki and bifteki, including many delicious cold and hot mezes (grilled halloumi is our favourite!) and baklavas if you fancy dessert after. Very reasonable prices, friendly staff and quick service. Definitely recommend - we go there regularly!

Coffee was weak and very cool although the chocolate brownie was excellent. Prices were high, and with door wide open was very draughty. Not an experience we would wish to repeat.

Been here twice now and food is lovely - have had the gyros and the box with chicken gyros, chicken and lamb souvlaki, tzatziki, salad and hummus - quality is really good and good pricing too, highly recommend!

I met the owner Adonis one morning as he was opening up and stopped for a chat because I’ve been looking for a perfect Greek restaurant for years. I promised I would be back to try this new restaurant and I’m so glad I did. The food was amazing just how I remembered it back when I lived in Greece for 3 years. The vibe was nice and friendly the food was amazing and the service was perfect. Thank you guys we will be back. It was great to meet the family

Popped in for a quick lunch. Great food and nice service, we ordered the 2 person platter and it was more than enough and was amazing quality for the price. No wine on the menu however you can bring your own bottle for a corkage of £2.50 which is really reasonable too.

Found this delightful Greek restaurant while shopping in Ayr! As a regular visitor to Greece, I found the ambience authentic, could have been in a village in Crete! Simply furnished and spotlessly clean, I enjoyed a Greek coffee and a delicious slice of baklava! A glance at the menu ensured that we will definitely return for something more substantial very soon! I had already had lunch, but what was being served looked delicious! Also noticed take out gyros being served.

Honestly, this is among the best food in Ayr just now. Good, honest food in lovely surroundings and a friendly atmosphere. Definitely our go-to place.

Food was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is everything comes with chips. An option of some delicious Greek lemon potatoes would've hit the spot. Having said that, the food was delicious...I'd just rather have had a choice of something other than chips.

Well... Gyros sandwiches get 2 out of 5. However, EVERYTHING else gets 0 out of 5. Horrible service, more like the waitress is on drugs. Food is super tasteless. I am baffled that they never tasted it! Even when i politely explained the food is not good they gave no apology nor asked for details.... If you must, only get a gyros sandwich to go and RUN

So glad I visited here today, good selection of delicious greek food . Friendly staff, spotlessly clean, relaxed atmosphere. Lamb and Chicken souvlaki were so tasty, tzatziki and warm bread had us stuffed but managed a greek coffee and some takeaway baklava for later..... fantastic. Will definately be back soon to try more dishes and they also do a collection take-away service🤩🇬🇷

The food is not bad (albeit tiny portions) but the service is atrocious.

Chicken gyro should be called chicken zero what a rip off just been in got 2 of these for £12 absolute waste of money no chicken worth talking about a tiny bit of rocket and about 8 under cooked chips your paying £6 for a bit of pitta bread will never be back biggest rip off both went in the bin . If you do go in make sure and ask for a portion worth what they charge

As a regular visitor to Greece when I saw this place had opened I thought great somewhere that does some of our favourite food. We'll what a major disappointment. Genuine Greek gyros not a chance. Firstly the set up is all wrong there is no rocket in a gyro,the tszatziki wellin Greece its thick and goes on first,the chips are not covered in herbs and there's no paprika on it. Not a chance in hell that this is any way shape or form is this anything like a proper Greek gyro will not eat here again worst £5.50 I've ever spent . Would put minus stars but it won't let me

Great to have somewhere that takes the time to engage with the customer. Yes you have to wait a little longer than the fast food outlets (not naming any, but they mainly serve burgers!!!!), but what you get is freshly cooked, amazing tasting Greek food. Gyros doesn't offer delivery as they don't have somewhere for a driver to park, go in and actually talk to the people who are cooking your food!!! They are on foodhub, so you can order in advance through the app, or call them directly. Public Parking is chargeable, and the nearest car park is South Harbour Road (behind the shop)! Would say that if you are getting a special box 3, ask if they can provide a second salad box as one isn't quite enough!!! Apart from that, absolutely fantastic cuisine 👍👍

Couldn't believe finally an authentic Greek in Ayr, The Greeks are known for the massive potion size, ordered the special box 3 £20. Disappointed with the size ordered it for a family of 4. Hardly anything between the 4 of us. Had to supplemently order from another takeaway to bulk it up. The food is good just enough for one person never mind a family of 4. Overall good food, the menu could do with a better descriptions of how many people it would serve as the description of the box was misleading.

Wish I could tell you about the food but I’ve not been able to get any yet. I made a delivery order, it all went through, ten minutes later was informed I couldn’t get my order. I phoned them and was told it’s collection only. Decided to try again for collection today only to read that they are not taking orders. What are they playing at, keep this up and they won’t last long.

Two days in a row my order has been cancelled without giving a reason!! This place does not deserve to make it in the app 😡😡
