Groes Inn Hotel and Restaurant Conwy in Conwy

This is our 4th stay in Groes Inn. The room is nice and the meals are delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. Very easy to go to Conwy and plenty to do nearby as well. We look forward to our next visits soon. Groes Inn is well-recommended. Always made you to feel very welcome. Thanks to all the team in Groes Inn.

The service was exemplary, we took our dog and all the staff were great with her. Lovely Inn with great views. Highly recommend.

Great little BnB with delicious food , clean rooms, and comfortable beds. The view from the back patio is just gorgeous. This place is a large part of the reason I will be coming back to Wales. The location is perfect spot to do your exploring from and the staff are incredibly accommodating and kind. Thank you for a great stay :)

The Groes hotel is made up of two lovely buildings that sit Parallel to the main road that lead into Conwy. We had an upstairs room at the back with a small balcony that had breathtaking views over the countryside.The bedroom was a good size with a bathroom and a TV,now the TV is important because they don't have one in the bar which wouldn't bother us normally unless there's a very important football match on.(say no more).The main Hotel is made up of numerous really cosy rooms with lovely seating throughout.The dining room is the same with a conservatory alongside.The menu is very traditional, service is good and it all went down very well.We did move to the bar after dinner and found some comfortable seats where we finished the night off.The big breakfast next morning was good,a bit of a wait but there was no hurry although I'm still waiting for my brown sauce.You could imagine being here at the hotel on a cold night with a roaring fire,it's that cosey.Maybe we will.This is an excellent place to stay and it's a nice drive into Conwy

I recently visited the site to dine rather than stay in the hotel section. On both occasions, while the food quality was very good, the service was extremely poor. Meals took over an hour to arrive, despite the pub being quiet with only a few occupied tables. Food was only brought out after we chased it up with staff. On my most recent visit within the last couple of weeks, our party of five, including two children, experienced similar issues. Despite having a booking, we waited around for ten minutes with no staff in sight, even after walking around to find someone. Eventually, I approached a staff member who had just come on duty, and even they were surprised at the lack of personnel. Service was painfully slow once again. Ordering food took longer than expected, and when it finally arrived, it had been over an hour. Drinks service was also sluggish, which prompted me to write this review, as it mirrored my first visit. After reading similar reviews on Trustpilot, it's clear that many others have faced the same frustrations—staff nowhere to be seen, a lack of busyness yet extremely slow service, and an overall poor flow of operations. The staff seem pleasant enough, but they appear overwhelmed when more than four people are in the restaurant. TripAdvisor reviews echo these same concerns. That being said, the food was very nice when it eventually arrived, and the restaurant has so much potential to be successful. Unfortunately, based on our experiences, it was disappointing to spend over £100 to have poor service.

We had an overnight stay with an evening meal and breakfast. The food and service were excellent. We had a Mountain View room, it was warm, quiet and comfortable. The Inn is full of history and would definitely stay again when next in the area.

From start to finish this place was amazing. Great location, really decent sized room including a crazy big bed, fantastic tasty food and the staff are so friendly. Lovely roaring fire made the evenings so cosy after wet days out. My dog received lots of attention & was very comfy during his stay. Everywhere is very clean & well organised, it's a lovely old pub. Great beach less than 10 mins away.

Excellent food and drinks in a lovely location. Some maintenance problems with the room. Some staff very friendly, others not so much, and very little interest shown when explaining the issues with the room on checking out.

The Groes Inn is located approximately a mile out of Conway. It is a comfortable old coaching inn, with an ingle nook fire place and cosy fire. Warm welcome from the staff who are very pleasant and accommodating. Rooms are clean and equipped with basic toiletries. Food is good with varied selection of items including vegetarian. Lots of parking available and easy access to the inn for wheelchair users. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Lovely country Inn.. superb rooms and excellent staff . Food excellent & a good range of J.W.Lees ales We brought along 6 friends & we occupied 4 rooms. All of our friends said that this was a hidden gem. Will definitely be coming again

Mushroom soup & scallops were good. The lady behind the bar was very nice and attentive serving us. Unfortunately, the place could do with an upgrade as it looks run down since our previous visit 13 years ago.

As authentic and aged as it gets in northern Wales. The food is unbelievably well prepared with a depth in flavour. Cold Manchester lager on tap is superb. Staff are very friendly, engaging and helpful. A perfect night’s rest in a lovely room does wonders as well.

Absolutely stunning little gem, loads of origin features, super 👌 amazing place for a visit. We Didcot stay over, so we can't comment on the rooms. Had an EV charger, which was an added bonus & my first trip out in my EV and having to charge it. 100% will be going again.

Groes Inn is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed. With most scenic views of the serene mountains , fantastic food ,cozy rooms and very welcoming service , it's worth visiting everytime I am in Conwy.

We recently booked the Groes Inn last minute as a party of 13 . This very old building has bags of character and even a huge indoor real grapevine in one of the rooms. We pre sent over our orders early afternoon and we arrived at 5pm . At 5.15pm all the food orders came out , piping hot and cooked to perfection. Not a single bad meal out of 13. Every steak was cooked exactly as ordered and all 13 dishes beautifully presented , tasty and cooked to perfection! Staff were really friendly , polite, and helpful . Nothing was too much trouble. We were staying at the stunning Coedmawr Hall for a birthday celebration and the Groes Inn was recommended. The meal was the highlight of our Saturday evening. We will definately return and I highly recommend the Groes Inn to anyone staying in the Rowen area. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Absolutely beautiful location and views. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. Rooms are very clean and very comfortable. Overall a fabulous place to stay away from it all.

Food was very nice.the staff was very friendly. But the whole place needs a revamp. The rooms where not worth the money we paid £184 a night.

Haven't been to North Wales for several years. The Groes has changed again in that time and is much more a restaurant than a pub these days. There is a very small bar area to just have a drink, its very nice, very cosy, nice atmosphere. Mid week lunchtime in December and quite a few people eating.

The people who work at the Groes are not like staff, but more like a family. It’s like a home from home, but without the cleaning, cooking and washing up! We had a great Christmas there and booked a few days in February to celebrate a birthday before we left! It’s our ‘Go to’ place for all occasions. Very many thanks to The Groes Inn!

Fabulous inn in a beautiful location. Would suggest choosing a Mountain View room that has a spectacular view. Excellent food and service in a welcoming environment. Would highly recommend.

We came for Christmas Lunch. Wow it was fantastic. The Christmas pudding was packed with fruit. It is the best I have ever had in 78 years. Service was great, nothing too much trouble.

Legendary three cheese pie on the small side. Not many peas either.

An excellent (vert short) stay at this beautifully situated inn - an overnight stay after a shopping trip to Conwy! We stayed on what was (up to that date) one of the coldest nights of the year and on arrival in our room we found it quite cool. The radiator wasn't really an adequate size for the room and it's sitting area. We turned its dial up to the maximum setting and after speaking to a member of staff, a mobile heater was delivered to our room. Within 5 minutes. Now that's what I call service. Perfect night's sleep followed an excellent evening meal and as for the views? WOW.WOW.WOW.

Really friendly staff would recommend a visit

Booked a table for my daughter's birthday. When we arrived there was a large party next to us, and this was too overstimulating for my ASD daughter. Even though the restaurant was full, the manager still managed to find an alternative table for the 5 of us. The rest of the meal went perfectly and they even gave my daughter a birthday card and put candles in her ice cream. Thank you for making her feel special.

Our second visit to this wonderful place. Very comfortable rooms. Small bar but fabulous cask ales. Food is excellent. Staff are absolutely amazing, so very friendly and nothing is too much for them. Very dog friendly. Although we lost ours a few years ago, it was lovely to meet new doggie friends. Thank you to all the staff for making our visit wonderful again! ❤️

Lovely hotel great service only one issue was the buzzing noise in the bedroom (room 14) all night. Sound's like we were next to a electric sub station!

Lovely lunch 😋. What more can I say?

We have stayed at this charming pub several times. The staff are warm and welcoming and this last visit was no exception. This morning‘s breakfast was excellent, well cooked and well presented. Our meal last night was very good though unfortunately we had to wait an incredibly long time between courses. The accommodation is very much in need of an upgrade. The decor is tired however, the bed was very comfortable with crisp white linen.

Beautiful hotel more than 400 years old. Everything very preserved and arranged very beautifully. The restaurant is very good and the food is excellent.

Normally stay in the Castle Conway Hotel, and that is a lovely place to stay, but we found the Groes Inn and thought we would give it a go, we were so glad we did, it's a lovely place steeped in tradition and charm, all the staff we found to be professional, polite, funny, and could not do enough to help, the rooms and bed were spacious and comfortable, I have seen people say the bathrooms need updating, that maybe but the rooms are clean tidy and have all you need, the shower, please never change 🤞powerful and hot👍the food breakfast and dinner all the courses we had were very tasty and of fantastic quality, and service was great, the views from our room out over the Welsh hills 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 was stunning, we had a room with a balcony, not saying what number people mite book it before us😂 we will definitely be back, not sure how many times, but it will be a LOTT! This was a birthday surprise for my husband. From beginning to end the staff at the Groes were kind and helpful arranging this visit for me. The food was delicious and all freshly prepared. Breakfast was great and cooked fresh to order, not the norm these days. Everyone we met at the hotel was courteous, kind and helpful. We will be back very soon to appreciate this great hospitality. Nice restaurant, we had a good meal

We stayed for a hen party and the team were so kind, accommodating and really made our stay so comfortable. Breakfast was amazing and they even made some bacon butties for a few that missed it, which was really thoughtful. Definitely recommend and will definitely go back with family!

Very clean and a warm welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and breakfast was excellent. Very handy location also.

Wonderful views if you get the back rooms with your own little piece of peace and tranquility with the added bonus of an eatery downstairs that clearly employs chef's and not food warmers. Only criticism would be the prices are a little high.

Only visit for evening meal, service was 5* couldn't fault it. Very friendly and welcoming, the food is outstanding and good value. Will be planning a visit again soon.

Stopped by for a meal, we have a small dog, the staff welcomed us and our dog with open arms, and our dog was offered refreshment. We had main courses which were superb and served with a smile. Lovely food. Would definitely recommend.

I can understand that the place is fully booked, but if you ask if dinner is possible, they give you a table in the bar and only if you ask when it can be answered, the same waiter says, with a "friendly" smile, that there is only drinks. may be served in the bar. 😤 This probably falls under Welsh humor?

I've never stayed here, I live just up the road, but I come for a meal here on occasion and the food is always lovely. Not cheap, but nowhere is anymore and certainly not vastly overpriced. The staff are friendly and the surrounding scenery is stunning. Well worth a visit.

The meal was quite tasty but service was slow and staff seemed unorganised.

This was the first time we had stayed at The Groes despite having eaten there on many occasions. We were not disappointed. Lovely furnished room with a massive super king bed which was very comfortable and a great shower. Good breakfast choices with very friendly staff. Would recommend the Arnold Bennett omelette. Met a lovely couple in the restaurant before dinner with their dog Bailey. Will be back in due course.

We enjoyed a very pleasant overnight stay here. The location is excellent, I chose it due to being just 8 minutes from Bodnant Gardens, and there are great views of the River Conwy and surrounding countryside. The rooms are very tastefully decorated, spacious and comfortable, the food is of a high standard and the staff are friendly and welcoming. We will definitely consider staying here again.

Came back here having been a few times 10 years ago and was really disappointed. Service was really poor, waited 45 minutes to get our drinks which ended up coming out after the roast dinner. Food was really average and not very good value for money. Such a shame as it used to be a great pub.

As an evening walk in without booking, despite being busy we were welcomed and found a table. Very friendly service and good food. Try the melon and feta salad.

Food was good. Service had an off night. We had dinner on a Tuesday evening and it was surprisingly busy. It's a sprawling pub with history from the 16th century. It's also a hotel but we didn't stay there. Chips were awesome: fat, fluffy and crisp. Steak pie was great with peas and gravy. My partners picnic platter was indeed enough for two and make a great ploughman's dinner. The salt and pepper calamari starter was well cooked but a bit miserly with only 4 small pieces. 4 out of 5 for food. But the service seemed to be having a bad night with two people working hard on bar and food. They tried to rush off before we had finished ordering, the wine was more like 100ml than the advertised 175, and they completely mislaid our bill in their computer and I had to tell them what we had - they were apologetic though. It was still pretty good value. I'd go back just for the food!

Came here for dinner - amazing ale pie and the ploughmans was excellent! Interesting restaurant ( with rooms) lots of different rooms and a beautiful outdoor area and glass conservatory with a grape vine. Only criticism would be feeling a bit ripped off when ordering a 175ml glass of red wine and receiving something that was definitely not 175 ml. Lovely location and food was good. Plenty of parking as well.

We were very well looked after at The Groes Inn…. Lovely staff, great food and slept really well. Also pleased to have a big car park without small bay sizing! The Groes Inn is a perfect location for exploring North Wales, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Beautiful Hotel run by such lovely people. Amazing food, drinks and beautiful rooms. And the building is over 450 years old. Literally cannot fault the place.
