Green Jade in Islington

From the outside Green Jade makes little impression of being more than just an average takeaway, but the boss is a real character, funny, generous, if sometimes a little abrasive. He and his sister have served me with authentic Cantonese food of surprisingly high quality and excellent value for many years, and they have a large number of faithful customers, which is always a good sign!

Am really upset. I have been going to this place since 2002 and although it’s normally chilly they have never had a problem before when I’ve asked them to put the little heater on. Tonight he said no and was quite nasty. Normally I would have walked but because I had been before I thought it was just a bad day. We looked at the menu and it seemed to be different. I asked if management and changed and he replied rudely that it had. We decided to move table further in to get warmer and he told us to leave. I asked him why as I have been coming for many years. The woman in the kitchen also ignored us. Am gutted as been looking forward to this for ages. I really don’t know what was the matter with him.

Food is so amazing, you can taste some good chinese/hongkong home cooked meal. The portion is so big and the dish are just so good. They are the favourite local chinese restaurant/take away in Holloway road. A must to visit if you are into asian cuisine. The guy who serves/owner is also very warm and friendly.

Green Jade is excellent. Owner is friendly (though quite direct, but it is just his manner!) service is quick and the food is fantastic, like being in a noodle shop in Beijing.

I lived around for ages and it took me a while to try as it really doesn't look like much. But it has been around forever and is sticking so I figure there must be something. Restult, great food, very cheap and the people are very nice as well.

Brilliant little chinese. The man that runs it is so very polite and helpful. Food is brilliant, great portion sizes and very tasty. Excellent prices all round great place highly reccomended a*****

Great food. Great service. Manager is a very friendly chap. It feels like your in a noodle bar in China. My fave place for Chinese in who whole of London.

I have been using this local for takeaways the food has always been very good and I would recommend everyone to try it as you will not be disappointed

It's been here for 20 years so they know what people like and is always busy. Also had a few tables. If tried many others as they Penn but can't beet this.

Very unpretentious and better than most local Chinese food. Tasty - with a chilli kick when it says spicy or chilli (unlike most Chinese restaurants I have found). Very friendly and speedy service. This is now my local take-away of choice having been disappointed by some and disgusted at the dirty surrounds of others (it scores well on food hygiene ratings). My only complaint is that out of the 3 dishes I ordered this week 2 were incorrect! The guy on the desk needs to listen carefully to the customer.

This place has been on Holloway Road for as long as I can remember, at least 25 years, it may have changed name a couple of times, but this tiny takeaway with tables always offers great value tasty Chinese food, that cooked extremely well and fast. The menu is wide and varied and they offer plenty of one plate dinners, including dishes like Char Sui and Chicken on Boiled Rice, or Mixed Meat with Chilli Soya Bean Sauce on Rice, plus lovely fresh noodle soups. There are of course all the family staples such as Sweet and Sour, Ribs, Chow Mein etc. There are around 5 tables in the whole place, the service is friendly and the food is great value, so if you find yourself at the southern end of Holloway road near to the junction with Liverpool Road, give green jade a try, note it can get really busy on Arsenal match days and that they do not serve alcohol, but the steaming hot chinese tea is also very good
