Green Dragon in Bedford

It's a place I keep returning to for quality food and atmosphere. Like a few places now they whack on a 10% service charge automatically but they're upfront about it and it can be removed. I usually do ask for that but this time I was happy to keep it as the staff were particularly superb on this occasion. The main restaurant was dominated by a loud hen party so soon after being seated we asked if we could sit in the garden room/conservatory instead. The lady serving us (I think named Fern) was happy to help and even when others were eventually seated in there too I think they were purposefully at the other end to give us a chilled and peaceful meal together. It was very much appreciated! The rest of our time there we were served by another helpful staff member named Justin. Together they made the night a great one and delicious food on top. My only request is I would love the Tuscan Salmon to come back on the menu sometime as I adored it.

Went for meal with husband and friend Sunday evening. We all chose to have a hot sandwich which came with roast potatoes (all served overdone - black) and a flat cold Yorkshire pud (? underdone) We had to remind waiter we had been waiting for 30 mins. Expensive for what we got (sliced bread, small square of stuffing, very salty processed gravy). Had nicer chicken sandwiched at regular cafes. Very annoyed they automatically put 10% service charge without informing us, only found this after we questioned the bill. Would not recommend food but service was pleasant.

Had the worst experience EVER! At this restaurant. If you have allergies I would not book a table there. If I could have written this review without leaving a rating I would have but unfortunately you can't do this. After explaining my allergies and a back and forth with a member of staff and the chef (who couldn't even come out and talk to me directly) was informed that he did not want to heat up some food for me because let's face it as a chef you would have thought he could have offered to cook me something from fresh even if it were an omelette rather than refusing to heat up food for me to eat. But to downright refuse to feed me is appalling. I had to sit there while all other people in the party ate. It was the most uncomfortable I have ever been or made to feel. Was a complete waste of time going. Never again!

Visited The Dragon many times over the last four years. Today will be the last! Food excellent, but then it goes terribly wrong. Booking special requests ignored. First point of contact a young girl (name known to us) very negative, condescending, back answers customers, and when asked to confirm her name, replied why, so you can say I was cheeky and rude online, must know in advance what customers are saying about her. Useless manager/supervisor who just starred blankly. Apparently customers no longer allowed bar tabs, even when having a meal., bar staff also aggressive when our party queried this, as never had this issue in the past at The Dragon. Service comes without a smile from the whole team. We ensured that the added 10% service charge was removed, never had such constantly bad service. We always spend in excess of £200 per visit, well no more, if Pat the group owner can afford to throw away loyal customers by employing such horrendous staff and introducing stupid new rules, then he no longer deserves our business. Our advice, go elsewhere!

Very nice place to have a meal out with our friends for my wife's birthday. The food was top quality and very tasty, and staff excellent. We all had something different to eat on the table of 5. And it all came out together and was hot.

Lovely food and great serving staff. Unfortunately , having to wait 1 hour 30 minutes to actually receive meals and then one of them being hardly warm which meant one being sent back to be reheated we both ate our meals on our own. Being a bank holiday it was bound to be busy but got the impression the managements plan was 'just them seated and make excuses for the long wait' Too many tables and not enough staff.

Beware of 10% Service charge. Although you can have this removed. This added £10.80 to our bill which they happily removed. Food was very overpriced for what you got. Drinks expensive. Staff were pleasant. We had two issues were asked if we wanted chunky chips or skinny fries and when food came we had skinny chips when we had asked for chunky chips and one of our party had asked for the relish to be on the side not on the burger and that didn’t happen. They did quickly exchange the chips and wasn’t a problem, but the response was very concerning as the member of staff said she hadn’t read the notes, so what if the note was about an allergy and that was missed. Beware are if you don’t like too much salt as food was very salty. We would not go again as very disappointed with the meal.

Staff were very friendly. Unfortunately we didnt feel the food on offer was good value for money. Some of the portion sizes were a little bit too small. We were left feeling a little disappointed as in the past it was so much better.

Found this restaurant and really wish I hadn’t £63 for terrible food . We had 2 shandy’s and 2 beef dinners . The meat came out raw and chewy . I sent it back and it came back just as bad . The veg was cold however the staff did replace with warm veg . I will say the front of house staff were amazing but the chef need firing . The staff removed the service charge which is a good job or I would have asked for a full refund

What a fantastic place to get away from the hustle and bustle. I’m staying as a single traveler and I’ve been made most welcome. Fern the receptionist was most welcoming and accommodating . What a fantastic experience I’ll definitely be back if I’m allowed.

Stopped into the dragon after walking on the Trent and Mersey canal. Had a great time. Super friendly staff, shout out to Fern for looking after us and being super attentive! Just the right amount of cozy with a bit of bustle, 100% will visit again.

This is hands down one of the best places I’ve been to in the East Midlands. The staff are extremely attentive, the food is delicious with great presentation, and the dome dining experience is phenomenal. The other reviews don’t do this place justice. Yes it’s pricey. But you 100% get what you pay for. We went for Mother’s Day and can honestly say it was by far the best decision and well worth every penny. Want to say a huge thank you to the wait staff, very hands on. Tristan was lovely and he did point out the service charge which was only 10% which I was more than happy to pay considering how great the staff were. Definitely recommend and will be going again!

This pub serves great, reasonably-priced food in a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Our group had a range of items, including burgers, sandwiches, the vegan option and gluten-free fish and chips. Everything was cooked beautifully. In particular, the batter on the fish and chips was light, crispy and not at all greasy! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful.

The Valentines Meal was amazing. Cannot fault it at all. Always a pleasure to eat here! The service is impeccable too! You must try it!
