Used to be excellent and would have had 5 stars all the way - the last couple of times, the food has not been cooked properly, soggy batter and anaemic chips. Won't be rushing back, has gone seriously down hill 🙄

They add way too much salt and vinegar. You can't taste the food all you can taste is salt and vinegar. The food is nice but way too salty. I feel sick everyime I go there. It could be way better. So dissapointed. The man who takes your orders goes to wander around in the kitchen. The prices are way too high but it's also a steal for bad, undercooked food. It only tastes like salt. Once the best chippy to the worst.

Granny Wongs can do a fish and chip takeaway for £ 5.50, a bargain considering most other fish and chip shops are charging at least £7. Nor do they skimp on the portions, I had loads of chips and a decent sized fish and both were cooked well with only small amounts of grease. Also I didn't have to wait very long, considering it was Saturday evening, and the staff were friendly.

Very nice chips and hot will definitely be coming back for more. Generous portions and value for money. 1 small chips and one large chips only £4.70.

Hit and miss with this place. Sometimes it's excellent, sometimes it's average. Today's visit was definitely average.

Visited here whilst on lunch break picking up a parcel in town and decided to get a chippy dinner. I got a large sausage, chips and a tub of curry sauce and partner got a fish Pattie, chips and a tub of curry sauce which came in at £9.50 which was good. I had to wait maybe three minutes which was no bother at all. From receiving the order I walked the 5 minute journey home and was piping hot when I got in. Everything was delicious and the curry sauce was perfect. Surprised we’ve not been here before but will definitely be back. The photo is of the sausage, chips and curry sauce and was taken after I started eating so there was more chips initially I just got impatient.

The food was AWFUL we didn't even eat it. Fish patty was basically sage and potatoes, i could of cemented a wall with the gravy. Would not recommend this place to feed my dog. 5 meals in the bin!! Save your money 💰

Visited after a day traveling up from Lancaster via Workington, so we were hungry. Saw reviews on the site and opted to visit Granny Wongs. Got there around 6ish,it wasn't busy. Ordered our food, staff were friendly and served us in reasonable time (not a complaint, we had to wait for some items to cook). We took our order and sat near the church and had our tea. It was a bit dark but that's not a problem either.We ate our meals, the children couldn't eat all theirs (ages 5 and 9). The prices were reasonable as well, so I'm happy with the choice we made.

Granny Wong's has new owners. The fish and chips are very good. Occasionally the chips portion size differs but it is good quality and we still enjoy going there for fish and chips. A very clean fish and chip shop and worth a visit. We us e it about once a week.One of the better fish and chip shops in the town.

This is a bang average chippy, not to say there’s anything wrong with that, they know what they do and they do it pretty well, but it’s not gonna blow your socks off. The staff a friendly and if Im in need for a last minute tea I’ll go there no problem.

We go here quite often as you can park outside and service is quick. Their food is tasty and hot and portions generous . Prices are reasonable and ideal for families with children as they will do burgers etc plain with no sauce or salad.

Nice little chippy. It's just one of the places you forget is there as its on a side street. Staff are always great.

We visited here while staying nearby, having selected it purely on the basis of positiveTripAdvisor comments.I am pleased to say that we were not at alldisappointed.The lady who served us was very pleasantand we enjoyed our conversation with her.We had fish and fish cakes with chips and gravy which were very good.It is located in a residential area but is notdifficult to find. It is well worth a visit.

Probably the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Fish was perfect with nice crispy batter and not greasy. Chips were also great. Would highly recommend. It was the highlight of a wet rainy cold day

This chip shop must have the cleanest stainless steel I have ever seen, no greasy marks on this one. The fish and chips are really tasty and the service is friendly and efficient.

Grany Wong's is a consistently good Fish and Chip shop. I have not tried any of the other slightly oriental type food that is available, just good old fashioned F&C.; The staff are lovely and polite, service good and what you would expect from a chippy as the food is mostly cooked to order. It is defo the go to chippy in Whitehaven. I would recommend it.

I regularly travel to Whitehaven with work and always make a visit to Granny Wong's when I do.

By far the best chippy in Whitehaven but their Malaysian menu, whilst limited in choice, is also worth trying.

The fish is gorgeous, lovely big flakes and very tasty. Chicken curry and chicken fried rice were tasty and packed with chicken. 5 minute wait for takeaway... Great service.

Older folk in Whitehaven always favour Crosby's but Granny Wong's beats them hands down for tasty food, friendly service and value for money!

Always go here now when we want fish and chips. Can rely on the chips to be fab and tasty. Usually get a healthy helping too.

Granny Wong's is always a nice, clean, friendly place to visit. The fish and Chips are always good. We have never had to wait a long time although that is inevitable in a fish and chip shop as the food is freshly cooked. The batter and fish are always of a good quality and the chips are well cooked and plentiful.

Lovely fresh fish @ chips, lovely Chinese food

very clean and well looked after establishment. special menu with homemade Malaysian or thai food (npt sure which style) cant quite remember where the cooks from. the satay chicken is creamy with fresh crunchy veg and a little spicy, but easily the nicest oriental takeaway dish in Whitehaven for me at least. theblacl pepper beef is very nice and different for people who like very peppery dishes. worth a try if you didnt reliase they did more than fish and chips and super cheap as well at only £4.30 a dish + chips at a pound or fried rice.

Friendly and helpful. They even made us chicken and green pepper with black bean sauce which wasn't on the menu. Don't order the spicy chicken unless you like hot!
