Grand Central Bar in Derry

Good pub with good atmosphere. The waiter is friendly.

Was told this was a must-see bar in Derry. It's fairly central but it's certainly not grand.

On visit to Derry to see the walls we stopped off at the The Grand Central bar with a disabled friend, who had a disability scooter. After a couple of beers we were asked to leave by the bar lady. She said the scooter was blocking her way, although there were 12 kegs of beer on the floor taking up a lot of room. The message was clear, If you are disabled you are not welcome here

Dropped in for a quite pint but stayed for the craic , great music , traditional musicians and singers mighty , PS the drink was not bad either.

If you like old traditional pubs this is a must , no much history inside and a great atmosphere will visit again

A grand place. I got lucky and wandered in on a Sunday night and there was traditional music, great local crowd. The bartenders were charming and helpful with trying new whiskey. People around the room took turns singing and they had lovely voices. An absolutely charming spot, exactly what I would want on a night out.

Trad music on a Sunday night from 8.30..........reels jigs hornpipes mazurkas and maybe a French waltz..... for eclectic musical tastes!!!

This is a lovely old fashioned bar, near the centre of the city. The barman was extremely polite and welcoming. There was live music the night my wife and I were there (Wednesday). Well worth a visit.

Visited the bar with my daughter on a Friday night to experience some Irish hospitality. Very friendly bar, really attractive inside and out. Tried my first Guinness and it was lovely. Would recommend.

Dropped in for a last drink. Great atmosphere, good music and lovely patrons. Was a bit wary of Derry pubs doe to the recent past but felt totally relaxed in this wonderful little pub. Locals were superb.

Local pub, local people felt like a local, good pints!

Die Grand Central Bar ist ein kleiner, gemütlicher Pub. Wir waren am Samstagabend dort, eine Sängerin sorgte für Livemusik und alles war sehr voll. Insgesamt auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

Just called in for a couple of pints of Guinness. Very welcoming. Great pint,not expensive. Locals friendly . Add to your walkabout list.

We were playing an Irish music session. Craic was good. It was quiet up stairs some of the time. Could hear music really well. Need 5 minutes to wind down session at end of night. We were told to stop in the middle of a set of tunes, which isn't the done thing and very uncool.

Was here on the usual lads night out when I visit. It was quite for a Friday night but had some excellent pints of the black stuff however they now have all sorts of craft beers and Sam Adams on draft. Great pub

I went in looking for a bar meal and found that food was only served on certain days (Tuesday?). The staff and customers were very helpful and apologetic and suggested other places for food nearby.

I had heard from people that the food at the Grand Central was really nice, but each time I called in the kitchen was just closed, or closed for the day, or a private party was happening. I finally caught a meal one Sunday and...

Después de llegar a finales de Grand Central Bar, teníamos una pinta una pieza y el personal era muy servicial. Preguntamos sobre albergues por la zona ya que no habíamos reservado. Ella era tan servicial Janna hizo por encima y más allá y nos conectó con uno! Gente genial aquí. Era un lunes por la noche, así que no es un montón de gente, que a veces es cómo me gusta. Una experiencia maravillosa!

He visitado este bar en muchas ocasiones para bebidas y para participar en su concurso, pero sólo recientemente noches nos dimos cuenta de que también ofrecen comida. El sábado pasado mi pareja y yo fuimos y probamos el menú y las comidas eran deliciosos!! Opté por el pollo que incluía queso de cabra y ensalada y era servido con patatas fritas, mi compañero tenía una hamburguesa. Los tamaños de las porciones eran sumamente generoso y nos incapaz de terminar nuestros platos, pero la comida era tan buena que realmente queríamos!

Opened for business Christmas Eve-had just finished work and decided to go for a wee drink with family and friends to raise a glass to those near and far at Christmas. Sat upstairs-log fire on, Mellow Christmas tunes playing softly in the background and a complimentary glass of mulled wine was served to all punters. Such a lovely touch.If you haven't already, visit the Grand central-you will definitely receive a warm welcome, great gastro pub food and fab live music from local talent most weekends. First pub in Derry to get behind and support that which is now a vast array of local ales they will also be launching their very own ale called Dopey Dick can't wait to sample

I used to travel to Ireland for business, and would always take a personal day or two to drive up to Derry. This pub would be my first stop after settling in. They pull a lovely pint, the food is very good, and while the locals were always friendly to say hello, I never felt harassed or "eyeballed" as a solo woman. Highly recommend.

Do like this bar but downstairs is too small and no matter when we call in always seems to be packed but with very drunk people even during the day. Three times recently we have turned and gone elsewhere. Its a pity as beautiful inside

Lovely little bar in the centre of town. They have excellent local beers on tap from Donegal and further afield, and have a good selection of spirits too. Have been a few times, and the music from bands and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays is always brilliant, and contributes to the great atmosphere of the bar itself.

this is a pleasant city centre bar with not bad prices and a cosy type atmosphere.went in for a couple of pints on a wednesday night and the place seemed friendly enough,would visit again next time im in town

We call into the grand central about once a month when we are in Derry. We usually stay in the travel lodge directly across the street. The Central is always our first (and sometimes last!) stop on our pub crawl. It has such beautiful character, lovely original bar and checkered floor from the 1920's. The selection of beers is the best I've seen in Derry, loads of craft bottles to choose from and even the draft selection has much more choice than most bars, and there is a good selection of top shelf spirits. The bar staff are always fantastic and so friendly and helpful, I like the fact they are mainly older (late 20's-30's) and are all experienced and seem to care about the customers experience and overall bar experience. We always have some banter with the guys on Saturday nights, they remember us each time we are in and always take time to have a quick chat and make us feel welcomed. The clientele is a good mix, generally from early 30's upwards which we'd prefer (not been ageist but the days of downing shots with teenagers is sadly long gone!) Heard a few different dj's on Saturday nights and they are all fantastic, not the usual chart cheese you hear in most bars but music for the 80's and 90's kids! Have only been on a Friday once when it was a guy playing some classic covers, lovely relaxed atmosphere. I love the little touchs like fairy lights on the windows, candles on the tables and in the toilets which make the place feel homely and personal. Haven't tried food yet but it looks amazing and heard other customers say it's beautiful so next time we will be eating here! Love this bar, definately our favourite place in Derry and we look forward to returning every time we visit the city.

There was a great traditional seisun on the Sunday night - uillean pipes, whistles and an acoustic guitar. the music on the Friday night was terrible - so give that a miss!

Loved this place! Called with a friend for Sunday lunch and pints. The food was superb, had a lovely roast brisket washed down with a couple of pints of the tasty black stuff. I would highly recommend this place, delicious food, great Guinness and could not fault the staff who were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back!!!

I walked in to the bar this evening with my wife, stood directly in front of the barman who was showing an obviously new member of staff how to pour a pint. No problem, guy has got to learn and I can wait for a bit. All the barman had to do was acknowledge that we were standing there. No, completely ignored while he continued with his tutorial. I can accept it if the barman didn't see me, but he did and chose to ignore me and my wife. I hope the new barman gets his customer service training from someone else. Walked out and won't be back.

Popped in with my sister for light evening meal and wee drink. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, beautiful menu with very reasonable prices..ordered spicy pizza and chips with pesto Dressing between us...divine!! Food Was fresh and so tasty. Staff very considerate and attentive.Looking forward to next meal there. Highly recommend!

really traditional style pub, always fairly busy which is good sign.Guinness is always without fail fabulous, never got a bad pint.Good music too and usual matches on TV etc.Have only been mid week but if that's anything to go by the weekends should be even better.Excellent free wifi tooWell worth a visit.

this is a popular pub with traditional decor and all the usual beverages, I haven't tried the food but it looked fine with others ordering. good atmosphere and nice staff.
