Not sure why there are negative reviews. This my local chippy and I can honestly say I’ve never been disappointed. Just finished my cod and chips. The cod was freshly cooked and was superb and the chips were delicious. I highly recommend.

Chips were chewy, dry, shrivelled up and most likely warmed up. Not good at all. Went in the bin.

Very rude Claimed they only took cash, but one kind man offered to try the card machine cause we only had card, turns out they do take card but there telling people the card machine broken as they only want cash cause they get all that money, the poor man who let us use card got yelled at and we got punished for using card as the cook decided everyone who payed cash and came in after us to cook their food first and leave us till the very end, we were waiting about an hour, if u don’t want to take card don’t but don’t lie about it

Absolutely awful! Chips are burnt! Sausage inside not cooked! Batter too thick on sausage and like a rock! Chips are dry and over cooked! PLEASE AVOID THIS PIGSTY AT ALL COST! Not even my dog or cat would eat this dross! It’s bad when my curry sauce was better than the whole meal!

We can't believe that a place like this exists , dreadful quality, the fish was an overcooked lump of batter and the chips tasted like they had been reheated , never again .

We absolutely love this place and always drive over for our fish and chips the staff are super friendly and amazing customer service. They never seem to busy for a quick chat which is lovely. And the battered cream egg was delicious.. highly recommend giving this place a try well worth the drive..

So disappointed, we went for a drive out on a beautiful evening and thought fish and chips would finish the evening off , wrong , chips were re-heated and the haddock was dreadful , a large lump of overcooked batter, it had an unpleasant smell ,and we thought the cooking oil should have been changed a long time ago . The shop needs a really deep clean, the notices on the walls have the prices scribbled out and increased prices scribbled on , very unprofessional indeed, lesson learned , never again .

AVOID!!! How can fish and chips be so bad? The Fish was as hard as a brick and the chips were awful. Do not waste your time going here - even if you are starving, would be better off getting a tin of beans from the shell garage!!

Nothing cooked, had to wait ages and chips were terrible, fish was obviously fresh because I waited 15 mins but the chap frying it looked like he needed a bloody good clean and a shave and his clothes looked like a scene from the boy in stripped pyjamas. I’ve seen him around town dressed like this as well so it’s not a one off. The whole place including staff, need a deep clean and a freshen up. There is no personality in the place and it is, to be frank DULL and DIRT. Come on, you can do better !!!

Kind, helpful staff. Did my order relatively fast and with care. Everyone got their correct order and generally good experience

Worst takeaway food I’ve ever experienced. Waited a very long time for sausage and chips x3 for the family. My first impression of the shop was not good as it looked Like it was in need of a good clean and rejuvenation . Everything looked a little bit dated .but I decided to give it a go, since I was here . There was a bit of a long, wait for the food, but Was happy to wait as presumed that this was being cooked fresh. However the food was burnt, dry and had a horrible smell about it. As bad as the food looked, it was the smell of the food that was most disturbing .It was all simply quite inedible.. drove back and got refund on all of the food. I’m astonished that the staff would even serve such awful food to someone and then charge the money for it. I would advise anyone to stay well away.

Ordered cod bites and chips. They cut a small cod into 4 greasy pieces and served it with a small bag of half burnt chips and charged me £7.50. Simply atrocious. They clearly couldn't be arsed. Avoid.

Second time now had chips, cold, brown, dry and in bits. Obviously leftover from lunch service and inedible. Have already complained once to the owner and returned the chips but this time will be taking to trading standards

Dropped in last night, waited ages for pie, chips and peas. Pie was barely warm, peas were a congealed sludge and the chips were brown and dry. I slung them in the marketplace bin and went back to complain and request a refund. The scruffy old man serving smirked and refused to refund anything unless I returned with the food from the bin. Appalling on all counts.

Pensioner's menu is very old with prices scribbled out and changed multiple times.

Used to be a regular customer but over the last few visits standards just keep getting worse. Chips were actually burnt, my 6 year old wouldn't eat them. Battered sausage had a strange smell, chicken really overdone. Won't be giving gottersons another chance and will use Bonds down the road from now on

Last minute pop in for some fish and chips, very tasty and affordable.

Went to get cod and chips twice for husband and I. Got home 4miles away to find one meal was not cod and when my husband tasted the fish it was off and the fish was a yellow colour when I returned to Gottersons asked the counter assistant what fish was this he couldn't tell me yet he served me he asked his colleague who cooked the fish he kept asking me what was it I ordered??..I wouldn't say eventually he told me it was haddock I told him I ordered 2 cod not only that fish is not edible I asked him to taste it he refused through all this he was laughing at me .... warning beware buying fish at Gottersons.... Was offered money back I refused if husband has food poisoning I will take this further....

Counter assistant didn't know his Cod from his Haddock asked for cod and chips twice got home to find one meal was not cod also the fish was a yellow colouring and tasted off I took the fish back and asked what was the fish... to eventually be told it was Haddock I asked him to taste it he laughed at me and wouldn't try it....no customer service and is a health issue be careful out there....I will be taking this further....

I must have missed the sign saying “Frying Tonight - thin FROZEN chips”! What’s that all about? We only found out when we got home!

Love this hotel in the old town of Benidorm. The beautiful beach just across the road from the hotel. Back July.

Bought 2 x fish & chips + curry sauce. It was quite early, 4.40pm. The batter on the fish was very dark, chips quite dark. I thought the cooking oil should have been refreshed long ago. Felt sick all evening after eating. Curry sauce was poor, dark, vinegar tainted - not nice. Staff were friendly. Sorry - honest review. Was a bad end to what was a nice day out in North Norfolk.

Chips have been reheated so much they are very dark or black and to dry to eat. Portion size very small.

I like this place . Good quality . I don't tend to eat the fish but have been arrange the rest of the menu and is good for a local. . Beats the other one in Aylsham

Decent chips and tasty mushy peas.

Great food and good staff, cheap prices for the food you get. In aylsham it's either bonds or gottersons, I'd say this is the 2nd best in aylsham due to bonds being quite good also for their price. Their chips and battered sausages are absolutely amazing! They also do some great fish items there I'd reccomend it! Ps if you like cats every so often there is such a friendly cute ginger cat! Say hello if you can.

Always get my order quickly, they are always friendly, i particulary recommend the bigfoot and their chicken (southern fried or otherwise) chips arent to my liking, but my partner loves em. All and all its a nice and cheap takeaway

Thought would get fish and chips for the family, the chips were very good but the fish (cod) very poor quality, weird texture and taste the battered sausage very good and the chips would just steer clear from the fish was very disappointing.

Went today at just gone 4pm, 2 peices of lovely fresh fried medium Cod and a large portion of chips between myself and my daughter...tasted delicious, couldn't eat it all!!

Couldn't fault the food or service ( take away of course). Goodbye social distancing too! We ate twice in a week.

I’ve had fish a chips from here a few times now and not once have I been impressed. As an Aylsham resident during Coronavirus lockdown, unfortunately it was my only choice. I can’t say my view has changed. Batter on the fish was so soggy it was stuck to the paper it was in, which was probably a good thing as it meant I didn’t have to eat so much of the fatty gloop. Gottersons - I don’t think your oil is hot enough! Chips were inconsistently cooked, some were not cooked through. Usually I’d appreciate the big portion you get, but I didn’t even want to eat them all as they were not very pleasant. If I hadn’t had to pay nearly £9 for all this, I wouldn’t be whinging so much. But this is Aylsham, not some packed coastal resort. Fish and chips really shouldn’t be that expensive.

The staff are always helpful and polite and the food is always how I like it hot and tasty. If I have to have one negative remark it's that the fish tends to have too much batter around it

OK, but not more than 'ok' on most days. Very 'traditional' Brit style 'Chippy' from the faded, fatty, hand written posters on the wall to the , often, slightly undercooked chips. Fresh food, tasty (usually), cheap-ish. Attentive, friendly, staff.

Stopped in today for chicken and chips. The chicken was overdone and tough. The chips were cold, hard, and clearly reheated from lunchtime. If you use this place make sure you stand and watch them cook it don’t preorder or take what’s sat there it’s disgusting.

The food is over cooked and burned curry sauce is bloody disgusting they use cheap crap curry sauce not to mention how you can burn a pie pastry on top was overcooked chicken burgers look like they were frozen from a supermarket not fresh

Progressively worse over the last few weeks. The Seasoned chicken was done to death and really so overdone it was just seasoned skin and bone and chips so overdone they were thin and just not worth the effort. So sad cos this chippy had been great over the past few years and the past few weeks...well I wouldn't bother.

We would never have found this place if we hadn't noticed someone walking past eating fish and chips out of newspaper. Followed the smell of chips and found the chippie tucked around the corner. Huge portion of cod and chips for £5.50, very friendly service too, Excellent value, only improvement would be if they could cook the chips in dripping

This fish and chips shop has great variety and the frying here is exceptionally good. NOT greasy over the paper or over done batter. Portion sizes are large and the chips are exceptional. We are lucky to have such a good local chippy!

When ordering fish and chips it is very hit and miss, sometimes it's OK other times it's just down right poor.

As passing I thought instead of going back to Buxton I'd try this one! Ordered cod and chips plenty of it cod was spot on! Loved it would go again to be fair!

If you like 'cremated' fish and 'soggy' chips, then this is place (excuse the pun) for you. Front of house staff were friendly and 'tried', but the "fish fryer" was exceedingly grumpy and I would suggest he needs to improve his customer relations. Not a very good experience and I will not be returning

Entré en lo que parecía una tienda de chips muy concurrido, había un chico joven que parecía muy amable y cortés. Pedido mi pescado y patatas fritas y pedí un gran bacalao de la cola. He oído el muchacho pide específicamente para una gran cola de bacalao que el hombre simplemente gruñó y caminamos. Habían sido 10 minutos cuando pregunté cuanto tiempo tengo que esperar. De nuevo, el chico se disculpó y me dijo que iba a ir y averiguar. Y entonces me vi al hombre en la parte trasera en el chico para no pedir, he oído él pregúntale a fry. Así que claramente el hombre había olvidado y le echaron. Aparte de esta comida era genial. Y fue agradable ver al niño con una sonrisa en su rostro todo el tiempo, incluso después de que me gritó.

Esta es la segunda vez Iv estado aquí y en ambas ocasiones ha sido iv decepcionado. Me fue puesto inmediatamente con el chico que nos sirve. Aunque educado sus uñas dedo estaban sucias. Debería entonces entramos. La salchicha era buena pero no como las patatas fritas.

trouble with this chip shop is that you have to wait for frying nearly every time you go, other chip shops always have a few pieces of fish ready...... not having anything pre done is dissapointing

Heaps of cold greasy chips, fatty sausages, awful tasteless fish and the batter is horrid.Apart from that,, the service is very slow ,as you have to wait for everything, is a fish cake a delicacy? The owner is rude and grumpy and not at all welcoming.How hard can it be to fry decent fish and chips? Always a disappointment.

Firstly I must make it clear the address for the fish and chip shop I am reviewing as shown above is incomplete the name of the village AYLSHAM is missing.If there is another Gottersons fish and chip shop in Norwich I am not aware of it and the one I am reviewing is the one in AYLSHAM I have tried this fish and chip shop several times. The range of products available is as one would expect fish chips sausages chicken various sauces. The method of taking your order and the money then cooking it while you hover around until the product arrives is more Starbucks than village chippy and personally I prefer to get to the server select from what's there pay and go only ordering if I really want something special. The last time I bought plaice fillet and chips and cod and chips both were cooked to order and arrived after a 10 minute wait. They were reasonable sized portions of fish if anything too many chips in a standard portion tightly wrapped. When I got them home and un wrapped them the batter on the cod had softened the plaice batter was still ok the chips though we're not freshly cooked and were not hot and were dry. The whole meal had been fried in I think some kind of vegetable oil not the beef fat I look forward to when having chip shop food. The meal therefore was not to my taste.

I visted here a few months ago and havent been back! I actually live in Aylsham but travel further a field when i fancy chips. When last visiting the lad serving was polite and cheerful however the managers attitude and behaviour was truly shocking. The cashier actually apoligised and looked embarrassed. I asked if either the gravy or curry sauce was suitable for vegetarians which the cashier said he didnt know and had asked the manager recently on behalf of another customer but just got a 'grunt'. He asked again and the manager did some hand gesture\shrug and so the cashier said sorry and best avoid it if i am a veggie as obviously no one knows!! Bit worrying since the law changed last year to have to inform customers especially for dietary and allergies.

Iv eaten here quite a bit in the past, but just recently things seem to have improved a lot. I ordered cod and chips and the size of the fish was big, there were plenty of chips and they were served in a box. Their curry sauce was also great. They weren't greasy and tasted great

Can be a bit hit and miss. When its a hit its not to bad, but when its a miss......... its BAD.
