Was my brothers birthday lunch, we waited an hour to get served and when the food arrived it was cold and awful. After we placed our order we were told they had no chips and gave us lettuce and tomato instead! Complained about it with no recourse. Will not be back.

I have eaten at this restaurant a few times so I decided to take my sister for a belated birthday lunch but this recent visit was very disappointing and overpriced. The place was busy and only two young inexperienced girls were serving tables. After waiting for MORE than 30 minutes for our food only to be told one of the dishes was not available. No explanation was given for not informing us sooner. As it was my order missing I opted for the soup which was nice but served with two pieces of stodgy sourdough bread and one pat of butter. My sister's choice was tempura chicken which she thought was re-heated as the batter wasn't very crispy. The tiny portion of chips were served in a tin no bigger than a whisky glass! not hand cut but the frozen kind. Coffees are nice but charged .75p extra for decaf (why?) not to mention a small piece of salted caramel brownie at £4. You expect to pay £39.50 for four lattes, portion of fries, a soup, a chicken tempura and one small brownie in the cities but not in a coffee shop/bistro in Gourock. Dogs are allowed in this restaurant which is highly unhygienic. No I won't be eating here again due to poor service and food not great.

Popped in with friend for a coffee and morning roll. Not looking for anything fancy but presented with dry roll and measly bit of slice - asked waitress for butter and she looked really put out 😂. Coffee was lovely but at £15 for 2 coffee and 2 miserable rolls and slice it felt a bit if a rip off

Went for a meal with colleagues. Very poor options for vegans, a 'vegetable sizzle' being the only choice which amounted to approx 8 florets of broccoli/cauliflower in a sauce with a small portion of rice. This did not fill me up at all. The staff were pleasant and friendly enough but the service was very slow and the place was not particularly busy. On the whole I'd say the food was average, this includes what my colleagues thought too.

Thought we'd made a fantastic find. Great food, pleasant surroundings and atmosphere until people came in with a dog which they promptly encouraged to jump onto one of the seats and sit at the table like a human. I thought the staff would have made the dog sit on the floor but on the contrary, the owners asked for dog treats which staff promptly provided. I'm not really in favour of dogs in eateries but understand its is more and more common however this was a whole new level for me.

Came for a coffee as I’ve heard it’s best in the area. 100% agree it’s delicious. Ending up staying for some lunch and the food didn’t disappoint either. Treated as family, us old dodderers were welcomed as if we were regulars, though we’d travelled from Dunoon for hospital appointments. I feel every thing is chosen with an eye for detail, from the strong pottery cups in muted colours, and long handled copper teaspoons, to the beautiful fittings in the bathroom, and the display of cakes stacked enticingly and temptingly in a display cabinet. I’ve thought the same every time I’ve entered , that I’m part of the community . I had a golden, glowing shiny scone, with dark brown raisins and a hint of orange zest. A Scottish specialty but often poor and doughy , but to know this big boy was to savour every bite as the King of Scones . The girl was so obliging and it’s like community hub with regulars and dogs can sit quietly under the table .

As the name suggests, good views over the River Clyde. Enough music to give the place an atmosphere, but not so deafening you can't chat. A mix of ages eating here which was good. Friendly staff. The quesadillas had nice fresh tomato salsa and guacamole. The fish and chips looked nice too. Menu type could have been larger. In the subdued lighting I had to use the torch on my phone to read it. Good menu choices and the portions were just right.

Lovely coffee, soup was amazing, good music……Then in came an owner with a dog like a horse which at one point sat on my wife’s foot as she was trying to eat her soup. It also stank of wet dog. I’ve had dogs throughout my life …… but a place where your eating is no place for them ….. ruined it for both of us.

The perfect atmosphere on a drizzly and windy autumn morning, I only wish I hadn't a train to catch and could have sat for longer. Lovely warm welcome from the staff, tastefully decorated with comfortable seating, 'crooner' music (Sinatra? Dean martin? Not sure but was the ideal vibe!) at an appropriate volume, very good value for money, and dog friendly. Would 100% recommend and return :) I had the vegetarian breakfast £8, poached eggs were cooked to perfection! (the beans do come in a condiment dish if you're not into your beans touching other foods; I had already decanted for the photo!)

Food was much better than the "other" cafe close by. However, the place looked quite neglected. The seats, sofas, and artwork seemed stained and grubby. There is some sort of mirror on the wall that is hard to get a reflection because of the grime, or maybe that's the desired effect. Service was good, though.

Booked a table for 4 for lunch. We were offered the booth by the window. Great view but it’s a really really tight squeeze for four people & a dog. As we had an 87 year old man with us, who has a walking stick & mobility issues, & doesn’t like being cramped in, we said it was unsuitable for us & could we possibly get a larger seating area. No was the answer. Despite there being several other tables reserved for other people for four, the person behind the counter refused to change anything around. We left, went to Cafe Continental down the road. I walked back to my car about 30 minutes later as I’d forgotten something, the tables in Good Brew still had their reservation signs on them & were still empty. Then after lunch, walking back to the car, same, empty tables with their reservation signs on them. Glad to see a restaurant is so busy that they wish to do without the money from 4 people out for lunch with wine & coffee. I’m very much a you get more with honey than you do with vinegar type person - Good Brew definitely had the wrong front of house person on duty today. We have a family member who lives in Greenock with a birthday in October, I won’t be booking Good Brew or The River again.

Prebooked a window table for the views. Arrived at the exact time booked only to find that there was no window table reserved and they were full at the windows. Staff checked the booking and apologised for this being missed. We said we'd take a walk and they could call us when the couple drinking coffee were leaving. 20 minutes later we returned and were greted by the same staff member who didn't recognise us from 20 minutes previous!!!! The couple were still drinking their coffee so we said we'd have a seat and have some drinks. Waited an eternity to get served for drinks. The staff member who brought the coke and the beer didn't remember who was having what after taking the order. Probably due to the fact it took nearly 10 minutes to bring the order over. We decided to forget the window table and eat where we were. Again when the food came the staff member didn't remember who was eating what.!! When it came to paying. We asked for the bill. The member of staff said she would get it then went behind the counter to sort glasses or plates. I decided to approach her at the counter to pay. I said I'll pay the bill. Her reply was where was I sitting again. I don't know what was going on. Staff being forgetful and slow the whole visit. I bet they remember I forgot to leave a tip. The food and drink were good as always but the service was atrocious. Ruined the trip down for lunch.

Ordered a takeaway soup and then a table was vacated with a view so decided to sit in. Was refused table as I was solo although no one else sitting at it. Then charged an additional 66.6% more to sit in. My soup came with a quarter of slice of bread. When I asked for another piece was told I need to pay another £1! So on reflection my soup had an additional charge if I wanted pasta or meat added and then more for the other half of the slice of bread. I will let you decide for yourseld if I would recommend to a tourist! Such a shame for a lovely town that desperately needs income.

I’ve been here a few times when I’ve visited Gourock before and it’s been good but today was really poor. I asked for “an order of fries” and the waitress thought I’d asked for loaded fries. I’m a wee bit hard of hearing so I didn’t fully hear her read loaded fries back to me. When I said I didn’t want the loaded fries, she looked back at the ticket and started lecturing me about how I should correct her when she’s reading the order back to me. I ended up passing on the fries (£5 for an order of fries is insanely expensive anyway) and just paying for my coke and leaving. I accept that I made a mistake but to be lectured like I’m a child and made to feel like I’m incapable of ordering food really was not great. I don’t think I’ll be back any time soon.

Have visited this establishment several times. Each time I have found the staff to be particularly unfriendly and unhelpful. You are made to wait at the door until they decide what table you can have. On one occasion I was with family visiting from Australia. My cousin asked we could sit at the window for the view. She was bluntly told NO. One word answer despite the fact that those tables did not have reserved signs on them. Clearly favour regulars . Very impressed with the quality of the coffee and food. I had a full breakfast and two Cappuccino’s. The coffee arrived first and was excellent. You get haggis, black pudding, mushrooms, bacon, square sausage, link sausage, poached egg, bacon and tattie scone plus sourdough bread and butter. Oh and 6 vine tomatoes cooked to perfection. What a treat!! In my opinion it’s the best breakfast available in Inverclyde. If it’s really busy you may have to wait for your order but quality is worth waiting for! It’s clear they care about the quality and source the best ingredients available. My only disappointment was not being able to show my gratitude for the service which was excellent as well. It was a total disaster from the start to finish and it was clear that they were severely understaffed and overworked. And to top it off My friend on leaving requested a take away for her partner (a toasted wrap and fries) only to return home to find her wrap untoasted and no fries to be seen. Unfortunately, the customer care standards at the River restaurant in Gourock have slipped considerably. In fairness, the restaurant was busy but certainly not full. However, after waiting around 5 minutes to be seated while holding a baby, we then waited another 15 minutes before we eventually asked to see a menu. Around 15 minutes after that, for the first time ever, we got up and left the restaurant as no one had taken our drinks order or acknowledged we were waiting to be served. We sat for 20 minutes with no staff member around and when one did appear and asked what wr wanted we had to say that a menu would be nice!! We finally ordered our meals and a bottle of wine. Nearly an hour after arriving we still didn’t have a drink and had to ask for our wine. When food arrived it was nice although we were asked if we wanted our main course with our starters!!!!! When we finished we paid and left and I honestly will never be back. The menu is now poor for dinner and the service is shocking. There was one poor girl running around trying to make things right but the other one couldn’t find haddock on the menu as she didn’t know it was a fish. The River really is the only place in Gourock for a nice night out and I love supporting local business but I’ll be eating elsewhere from now on. Such a shame as it used to be great

Went in for a birthday lunch , 3 tables were given menus and food before us and they came in after us , 20 mins we waited on menu, got our tea served and was asked how many sugars we wanted , never have been asked this anywhere before, he forgot to come back with the one wee sachet of sugar that I eventually got , food came 30 mins after ordering….not good at all , as tea was now cold , the food was ok , but feeling invisible is not good .

Haven't been here for over a year. And what a difference a year makes! We had to wait about 25 minutes for our food to be prepared and both were simple meals. Hubby's Cajun chicken wrap consisted of chicken and cheese - not a Mexican ingredient in sight! My mac cheese was nice enough. Both meals had ridiculously small portions and seemed very overpriced at £9 each or thereabouts. Top this off with watery cola filled with ice and two hungry and thirsty diners were seriously miffed!! We were both really surprised to find the premises half empty as previously its been hard to get a table at lunchtime so its seems we aren't the only patrons that wont return.

Hmm - great views, nice place. Lacking tasty food maybe? I feel like the kitchen is staffed by college drop outs instead of proper chefs…? Haven’t had anything that I would make me rush back

Love the dark hot chocolate here, so rich👌. Ordering that every time we visit. Had lunches here before, mussels were amazing Ordered poached eggs with Haggis on muffin, and a full breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed them! Along with the dark hot chocolate, that was £24, not bad at all considering how much it costs to run a business these days.

Mało miejsca dla większej grupy osób. Na plus widok na zatokę. Kawa americano smakowała na 3 lecz cappuccino na 4. Lody w miarę smaczne lecz truskawki były slabe. Lepiej podawać bez truskawek. Piwo drogie i małe.

The view is wasted on this place (which in a previous incarnation was great). Now the service is terrible with rude and painfully slow staff. I can’t comment on the quality of the extortionately-priced coffees as after 20minutes waiting in a practically empty restaurant, we cancelled the order (the woman with a serious attitude problem was too busy chatting to her friends and so was slow and got the order wrong). She then claimed she didn’t know how to make a refund to a card. And when I suggested she get the manager to do it, she said she was the manager - so there’s no hope for this place.

Our dinner experience was exceptional! The tomahawk steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavourful, while the Thai green curry had a delightful balance of spices, with just the right amount of heat. Megan’s outstanding service added a personal touch to our evening. Highly recommend this...

I worked for restaurants for 10 years and I know you always have to give the 2cn chance at the restaurant and I did and I will never come back. Food - no taste. Service - chatting a lot not paying attention to customers. Asked 3 times for the bill and had to go to pay at the bar. I spilled a drink and had to clean it by myself (asked for blue roll which I've got at the bar and no question asked) . Prices : onion rings - basics and disaster (look at the photos). Flour still there. £27 for 3 tapas, wine , kids juice and kids ice creams with cake

Went into the shop 16/05/21 and ordered a tray of chicken donner kebab nothing with it and what did we get? A donner kebab with sauce and salad so they don't listen to their customers just give you anything as long as you have paid

Shocked at their behavior. Bought a light bulb which was defective out of packaging. Took it back , they blamed it on me. Did not offer any replacement or refund.

Collected food from here last night and the girl behind the counter was really pleasant. Told her it was my first time trying PK75 and she looked at me and said ‘I really hope you like it’ - I reassured her that I would and I did! Burgers were fab, so delicious peppercorn sauce was fantastic (just as my friend recommended to me) chips, popcorn chicken (which is actual chicken breast) and onion rings were all spot on and piping hot. Might have waited a bit longer but you can see why there was a queue. Will defo be using again.
