We had an absolutely fantastic experience at the Golden Hind Restaurant. From start to finish, everything was spot on. The staff were brilliant warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the whole evening feel effortless and enjoyable. We started with calamari and feta fritters, and both were bursting with flavor. The calamari was perfectly cooked—tender with just the right crisp—and the feta fritters were a delicious surprise, rich and savoury with a lovely texture. For the main course, we went with the classic fish and chips, and it did not disappoint. The fish was incredibly fresh and flaky, encased in a light, golden batter that was beautifully crisp without being greasy. It’s clear they take real care in the preparation, and it shows in every bite. We finished with panna- cotta and sticky toffee pudding, and the presentation was absolutely wonderful elegant without being overdone. The panna cotta was silky and light, while the sticky toffee was rich, moist, and utterly indulgent. Altogether, the Golden Hind Restaurant delivers everything you could want from a great meal: fantastic food, top-notch service, and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates quality and care in both cooking and hospitality. Can't wait to be back with my family!!

Lovely neighborhood and ambiance! We were a group of five people and I had the salmon with the mashed peas which was delicious. My friends had traditional buttered cod and haddock and everyone was very happy with their food. Considering the area the prices are fair. The staff was very friendly and professional. The food and drinks arrived quickly. This is a very historic restaurant in the area, there for 111 years! Totally recommended! We will be visiting this place again for sure.

This used to be the best fish and chips in London. But,through greed they're ruined it. £17.50 For Large Cod just bigger than two fish fingers. The fish has no flavour,and is a rip off for such a small fish. £4.95 for oven chips,no more fresh potatoes. The chips were terrible,and the lady on the next table left and never ate any. The chips were for cooking in an oven,but they cooked them in oil,and they're rock hard. The Greek salad was nice,but a large at £12.95 is very expensive. The bottle of water large at £3.50,and was great value. Then the 10% service charge,which I would rather give a tip to the waiting staff,as the previous Greek owner told me he kept the service charge and tips given to his staff. The restaurant was taken over by an Indian man who I meet,and the previous owner son who's an accountant. My bill was £43.29,when before I used to have large cod and chips,Greek salad and a coke for £17.50,and I always left £20.00. The prices have doubled,and the quality of the fish and chips has gone down very badly. There are much better local fish and chips that provide more tasty and mouth watering fish and chips.

The large cod is fresh and big portioned, and the mashed peas are tasty. Ordered a bottle of house white to share - worth the splurge. Service was prompt and manager was friendly.

I made a reservation because it's a popular fish and chip restaurant, but you can probably get in even if you don't have a reservation. While other customers were eating the set that came with beans, we each ordered fish and shared a salad and fries and were quite full. The fish seems to be a single item, but potatoes etc. are an additional order. It was very delicious so I recommend it.

The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. A special thanks to the manager, who was incredibly kind and made our experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend😍

One of the best addresses for fish & chips. You can choose between different fish and the preparation “fried” or “steamed”. In a very busy and popular area for going out. The service was a bit awkward; each time a different person came to the table. It happened in quick succession. Nothing for a long evening. Wine selection moderate but suitable. Rather expensive, but you won't be disappointed.

Very touristy and expensive (everyone in the resto was a tourist). Service was good and fish was well cooked but the price is eye watering.

We have visited the Golden Hind Restaurant multiple times. By far the beat fish and chips in town! The service is excellent especially Arber and Alex and the rest of the staff. Very friendly and lovely atmosphere.

The real fish and chips on offer are very good, not too greasy, but the fries seem industrial. Please note that they are not included in the price of the dish. The portions are large enough to hold. Some desserts are very good (especially crumbles), but others are tasteless, such as chocolate cake and puddings. The staff was pleasant, and the atmosphere friendly. Furthermore, the service is not included in the total price, it is necessary to count ten percent on top of the price of the meal. I'm giving it four stars because I really liked my main course and my dessert, but that wasn't the case for my whole family.

Three of us had lunch there after the Wallace Collection (Grayson Perry exhibition). But when we asked about the set lunch advertised on boards outside, the waiter just pointed to the much more expensive fish and chips item on the menu. Is that even legal? The fish and chips were good but the bill was a bit high. I found that the 4 espressos we'd had added over £15 to the bill (with service added). Maybe it's to be expected in a high rent area.

Whenever we are in London, we will head for Golden Hind for our fish and chips fix. Not only is the fish and chips excellent (especially the halibut), the taste and quality have remained consistent over the last decade we ate here. Even the Indian waiter (forgot his name) is the same guy who served us over the years and it was nice to see him again when we went back last month. While some things remained the same, the restaurant has been renovated to make it look more modern and brighter. It is a given that we will eat here again the next time we visit London.

It was the first time I tried fish and chips, so I can't compare them, but honestly, I found it heavy and left feeling a bit stuffed. I ordered the pea cream, as I had been recommended, but they brought me fresh peas...I thought I had misunderstood, so I didn't say anything, but when I looked at the photos of other customers, I saw that they actually had the option of mushy peas, which was somewhat frustrating. What made up for the frustrating experience was the kindness of serving me a piece of cake with a candle for dessert and singing happy birthday. I admired the gesture.

Very intimate atmosphere with few seats, very fast service and high quality food. Very good fish and chips, generous portion and sublime fish batter. The only downside is that they don't have beer on tap but what's on offer is still good. Average price for London. Worth a stop.

A disappointing meal at The Golden Hind. The salmon fishcakes were dry and lacked flavour, while the Greek salad was far from authentic—soggy lettuce with barely any feta or olives. Not what I expected from a place known for fish and chips.

If you have any sense of value for money, you’ll avoid this place, absolute tourist trap. £18 for a piece of haddock without chips and it was distinctly mediocre. The service was good but when you’re being ripped off it makes little difference. Far superior fish and chips available in London for fairer prices.

Fantastic experience, people are the nicest. I don’t even remember the last time I had such a warm welcome. The food is insanely good and made with passion. And the drinks are great choices. You have a very good menu and very decent prices considering the quality you are getting. I highly recommend this restaurant! I will be my family next time.

When you are in London, how can you miss fish and chips? The Golden Hind is our go-to place. We loved all our choices, especially the calamari. Staffs are nice and friendly.

I always love going to the Golden Hind in Marylebone for 2 reasons. 1. I remember as a child living around the corner going every Friday night for a take away and 2. It still is by far the Best fish n’ chips in London! Staff are always amazing and welcoming and the food prepared fresh and served impeccably. Even if you’re not in Marylebone I highly recommend on a visit to Oxford Street to take a 5 minute detour to this hidden gem!

I was excited to dine here because friends talked about the wonderful fish & chips. We ordered (staff very nice and helpful) and found out that the fish didn’t come with anything. Everything had to be ordered separately. My friends were surprised that you now payed for each item. I was kind of shocked that “Fish & Chips” didn’t come together. The Fish looked silly on a platter all by itself. The photos included are from the website. Very misleading.

Basic, beige and bland, it is chippy that is trying to be a restaurant.

I find these Fish & chips really overhyped.. my fish seemed undercooked.. you can see from the color.. I opted for Cod. Fries were bland as well. The staff & service was GREAT! But sorry guys, I had to give honest opinion. Hope you take it constructively.

Terrible service: The service was not at all enjoyable. My sisters and I are on vacation. Before heading back to our hotel we decided to stop for a glass of wine. All the restaurants in the area seemed to have long lines outside and when we looked through the windows the tables were occupied. This was the only empty restaurant. All the waiters and waitresses stood by the front door with nothing to do. Just chatting and laughing. No tables to tend to. (I guess this should have been the red flag). We decided to stop in and have a few glasses of wine and possibly order food. But we wanted to start with just something to nibble on. The manager himself approached our table and informed us that we would have to leave in 30 minutes because we did not order enough food and they were fully booked for tonight. Only two tables were tagged with reservations, the remainder of the tables were empty. (Please see photos attached). So this has prompted me to leave this review, because it was unnecessary and inhospitable of the manager and the waitress to rush us out whilst they ran an empty restaurant. 0/10 Would Not Recommend.

At the entrance to this beautiful Marylebone street (chic neighborhood) we go looking for a restaurant, in the pouring rain, and this fish & chips specialist opens his arms to us 🙌 We enter, we are well received and we sit down warm to taste the famous dish Cod and mush peas (cod and pea puree) hmmmm a treat with the sauce that goes well and attentive service The golden hind: the golden hind is the name of a ship 😉

The food was ok, but unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. We visited on the night of October 30th and encountered four waitstaff: a tall white guy, an African lady, a thin white guy, and Sara. Sara was fantastic—very friendly and attentive. However, when I asked the African lady for a new plate to replace one I had already used, she went to get it but was then signaled by the thin white guy to return it to the kitchen. As a result, I never received my new plate. Prior to that incident, I had waved at the same thin guy for an extra set of silverware that was missing from our table; he looked right at me but chose to ignore my request. As someone in the food and beverage industry myself, I recommend that you carefully select staff who represent your business well if you want to succeed in this competitive market. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning.

I have to say the food here was exceptional. Great service, staff were polite and atentive. They managed to serve all of us (8 persons) at once. Definately go there again, and great value for money.

Absolutely loved my dining experience here! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home. I started with the prawn salad, which was simply outstanding, the prawns were perfect, and the sauce added just the right amount of flavour. For my main, I opted for the haddock, accompanied by a side of halloumi fritters. I usually go for cod, but decided to switch things up this time, and it did not disappoint! The haddock was cooked to perfection, and the fritters were a delightful addition. Without a doubt my new favourite fish & chip restaurant in London, I will be returning :)

The Service fee 12.5% is high than expectations

We were a party of 11 at 8 o'clock on a Saturday night and we were taken care of as if we were family. Everyone in our party loved their fish, chips, and mushy peas. I don't care for fish and had many options. I wanted something light, but I can't resist potatoes in any form so I had the mozzarella and tomato plate and a bowl of nice, thick chips. It was perfection. Ripe tomatoes and soft cheese. Not the rubber stuff we get in the U.S. The owner was there and could not have been more gracious and welcoming. We have been there many times before with varying happiness with our meals. It is dialed in perfectly now. I commended the owner on the fine job he was doing and he noted that he couldn't do it without a great staff. Nice!

Excellent meal with a large group. 11 of us showed up on a Saturday evening and asked for a table at 8pm. Owner happily rearranged a bunch of tables, and along with a very helpful staff, brought everyone's meals and drinks quickly. The food was perfectly prepared, delivered hot and with a smile. We've been stopping by every couple of years since the 1990's while we're visiting friends, and the quality and service has been consistent every time.

Fish and chips yet you have to pay extra money for the chips avoid this place at all costs

Actually, I was disappointed woth the food. I've always heard very good recommendations about this place, when I went I didn't enjoy the food. Fish was overcooked, chips I couldn't eat....was hard and no taste. The mangerthere was rude with unwelcoming face and attitude. Even the sauce not tasty. Was strange. Really sorry, but compare with other 2 popular fish and chips places in the same street and area. This one is the lowest rank for me. Not recommended 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Charged us 2.5x the quoted service fee after forgetting about the table…multiple times

The haddock without batter and the fresh peas were fantastic. We had shrimp cocktail to start and some chips. Two glasses of red wine topped off the dinner and we were in heaven. The staff are amazingly friendly and the prices very reasonable. You can also get fish and chips but we had the fish with no batter - one cod and one haddock. They were both fantastic. This is not the fanciest but is among the best places in all of london. A hidden jewel. The restaurants in historic Marylebone Lane and every month the area gets better and better. Post dinner we walked in some of the boutique stores on Marylebone Lane and on Marylebone High Street. It is full of great new stores and restaurants and bars. This is one of the amazing areas of London that is special.

Three of us had lunch and the food was good,nice fish,lovely chips ,decent mushy peas,bread and butter and cups of tea. Good service from friendly staff. We have been regular visitors to The Golden Hind every time we have been in London over the past 10 years but sadly today we have decided no more as it is just far too expensive now for a midweek lunch. We opted for regular haddock,chips and peas. Portion sizes are fairly average. The fact that all the items are priced individually makes it really expensive. £15.95 for a slice of battered cod. £3.95 for chips on the side. £3.95 for mushy peas. Add in small cups of tea,which they bring way before the food,so we had to order another round to drink with meal (£3.50 for one cup of tea). Our bill was just under £110 once they add on 12.5% service charge to bring the food you order to your table, for basically an average sized portion of fish,chips and peas with a slice of bread and butter each. Highly doubtful that we will visit again as it is just far too expensive.

Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante in Marylebone Lane per poter finalmente gustare il famoso piatto forte britannico: Il Fish & Chips e siamo rimasti soddisfatti! Buonissimo anche l'antipasto: frittelle di Halloumi, delicate, in un fritto leggero e croccante. Il servizio è stato veloce e cortese nonostante il locale fosse pieno di clienti, per lo più gente del posto - e questa è di per sé una garanzia! - Abbiamo scelto di cenare all'interno del locale, ma anche ai tavoli all'esterno dev'essere piacevole. Just didn't meet the mark. Fish and chips tasted really bland. Chips had no crisp or flavour. Mushy peas a little too rough and thick for my liking, had a bit of a raw taste too. Shrimp cocktail was okay I guess. Overall disappointed given the price point, I just didn't taste any finesse or personality in the food.

By far the best fish n chips I’ve ever had. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner Jason, who from his initial hand shake, you know you’re going to get taken care of. The service is meticulous, the food speaks for itself and the location is par none (especially for the price). You would be a fool to go anywhere else. Thank you for the experience you guys!

The food is superb. I ordered a haddock Fish and Chips, they tasted great, and I didn’t feel greasy or bloated at all. Portion is right on point! The place can get quite crowded and stuffy, and bathroom is small. This is not really an issue. My biggest gripe with them and reason for below 5 stars is the service. The male staff was super nice and accommodating, and even gave out lollipops to all the ladies of our table which was quite a cute gesture. The same couldn’t be said of the female Eurasian looking staff, she looked irritated, and stated that we couldn’t split the bill by item or more than 3 ways. She said we could only split it by half. I found it ridiculous because I’m sure there are occasions where there are multiple parties sitting at the same table ordering different items. I doubt those ppl were okay with just splitting it by half. When we had no alternative but to accept splitting the bill by half, I saw her using her phone as a calculator to split the bill which I see as a contradiction to her own statement and reason. Anyways her demeanor and lack of cooperation left a sour taste for me. Food was great though !

Hands down the best fish and chips in London! The food is so fresh, fantastic quality and delicious! The staff are so welcoming and friendly, particularly Jason who is the most enchanting host. He's so wonderful to watch in action making sure he interacts and looks after each of his guests. A must for people visiting London and a great place for locals to support and enjoy a rare local business in the centre of London! Truly love this place!

The service was very nice and welcoming. We ordered Cod, Haddock, Salmon fishcakes, chips and garden peas. The cod and Haddock were excellent. The chips and salmon fishcake were very boring. The chips seemed just reheated (which I doubt is, I am sure they were fresh but it’s to give annidea of the taste). The salmon fishcakes had barely any salmon in them and I would definetely not recommend them. Go for haddock or cod!

I’m so sad to review The Golden Hind so poorly, as it came highly recommended. I was so eager to try their sought-after fish and chips (I ordered the haddock) and, very unfortunately, I found both the fish and the chips had little to no flavor at all. I was shocked to discover that I could hardly taste the tartar sauce either. There was so little taste that I thought I might have caught a bug that affected my taste buds, but sadly that was not the case. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff were fantastic, but unfortunately I will not be returning.

The Golden Hind is a good, if slightly pricey fish and chips place. It’s not the best and is a bit overhyped on “best of” websites. The fish portions are generous and well fried, but chips are a separate purchase. Batter seriously lacked in salt, unfortunately. Greek pickles were excellent, however. Greek salad was fine, but unremarkable. Desserts: spotted dick was bland, although the hot custard was nice. Sticky toffee pudding was better. Be aware if you have allergies that all frying is in peanut (groundnut) oil. In sum: it wasn’t a bad meal, but it was pricey for a mediocre plus one. My advice is to try a different chip shop.

Excellent fish and chips restaurant that first opened in 1914. Aside from the excellent fish we loved the Calamari. Nice clean restaurant with friendly and attentive staff, will visit again.

I have been dining here for a number of years, fairly regularly. The personalised service by the family run business is always outstanding. The food is the main draw...and boy is it worth it. Having experienced many of the restaurants offering what would seem like a simple cuisine...only few have really mastered the consistent quality and taste. The recent change to their Chip supplier has propelled the chips to a whole different level... The battered Cod and haddock are absolutely super light and crispy on the outside with succulent white flesh on the inside. To round up....the traditional apple crumble with warm custard....will remind you of the glorious days of your youth....or be a pleasant surprise if you are tasting this British desert for the very first time... All in all a super place to enjoy the best fish and chips in London And oh....don't forget the pickled onion and gherkins!!

Overhyped and overpriced. Doesn't live up to its reputation. Very expensive for what it is. The map displayed next to the entrance displays the take-out prices... without specifying it too much. Remember that service is not included..

I think the best fish in the town. I only dont like their fries but still ok. Fishh is tasty and the most important thing is their oil is not make you feel bad after you eat the fish. It’s not heavy all.

Fantastic fresh fish made in exquisite ways at a wonderful low-key atmosphere. Although the place is well known for its fish and chips, I went with the steamed plaice and it was exquisite as it was really fresh and properly cooked. Jason and his team live up to the long history of the place. Looking forward to the next time there!

We went here as it was listed in the top fish and chip restaurants in London, but sadly it did not live up to it's name. The chips were average (at best) - seemed like they were reheated. The fish was nothing special, especially for a place that specialises in it. My wife ordered the calamari but it was overcooked and rubbery - she didn't like it much. I would try other options.

We were there with family for 'Fish and Chips Sunday.' The place is very touristy and quite expensive. Tables are placed very close to each other, so it's quite loud. You need to order the fish, mushy peas, and chips separately. We ordered only one portion of mushy peas, and it was enough for three people. The fish was cooked well.
