Terrible service: The service was not at all enjoyable. My sisters and I are on vacation. Before heading back to our hotel we decided to stop for a glass of wine. All the restaurants in the area seemed to have long lines outside and when you look through the windows, the tables were occupied. This was the only empty restaurant. (I guess this should have been the red flag). We decided to stop in and have a few glasses of wine and possible order food. But we wanted to start with just sometime nibble on. The manager himself approached our table and informed us that we would have to leave in 30 minutes because we did not order enough food and they were fully booked for tonight. Only a two tables were tagged with reservations, the remainder of the tables were empty. (Please see photos attached). So this has prompted me to leave this review, because it was unnecessary and inhospitable of the manager and the waitress to rush us out whilst they ran an empty restaurant.

At the entrance to this beautiful Marylebone street (chic neighborhood) we go looking for a restaurant, in the pouring rain, and this fish & chips specialist opens his arms to us 🙌 We enter, we are well received and we sit down warm to taste the famous dish Cod and mush peas (cod and pea puree) hmmmm a treat with the sauce that goes well and attentive service The golden hind: the golden hind is the name of a ship 😉

Food came quickly, servers are nice and efficient. Beautifully fried cod, excellent chips and very fresh tasting salad.

Chips bland, poor. Battered cod tasteless. Fishcakes flavourless. Weren't told about the special offer which could have saved £20. Way over priced

The food was ok, but unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. We visited on the night of October 30th and encountered four waitstaff: a tall white guy, an African lady, a thin white guy, and Sara. Sara was fantastic—very friendly and attentive. However, when I asked the African lady for a new plate to replace one I had already used, she went to get it but was then signaled by the thin white guy to return it to the kitchen. As a result, I never received my new plate. Prior to that incident, I had waved at the same thin guy for an extra set of silverware that was missing from our table; he looked right at me but chose to ignore my request. As someone in the food and beverage industry myself, I recommend that you carefully select staff who represent your business well if you want to succeed in this competitive market. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning.

I have to say the food here was exceptional. Great service, staff were polite and atentive. They managed to serve all of us (8 persons) at once. Definately go there again, and great value for money.

Absolutely loved my dining experience here! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home. I started with the prawn salad, which was simply outstanding, the prawns were perfect, and the sauce added just the right amount of flavour. For my main, I opted for the haddock, accompanied by a side of halloumi fritters. I usually go for cod, but decided to switch things up this time, and it did not disappoint! The haddock was cooked to perfection, and the fritters were a delightful addition. Without a doubt my new favourite fish & chip restaurant in London, I will be returning :)

The Service fee 12.5% is high than expectations

We were a party of 11 at 8 o'clock on a Saturday night and we were taken care of as if we were family. Everyone in our party loved their fish, chips, and mushy peas. I don't care for fish and had many options. I wanted something light, but I can't resist potatoes in any form so I had the mozzarella and tomato plate and a bowl of nice, thick chips. It was perfection. Ripe tomatoes and soft cheese. Not the rubber stuff we get in the U.S. The owner was there and could not have been more gracious and welcoming. We have been there many times before with varying happiness with our meals. It is dialed in perfectly now. I commended the owner on the fine job he was doing and he noted that he couldn't do it without a great staff. Nice!

Excellent meal with a large group. 11 of us showed up on a Saturday evening and asked for a table at 8pm. Owner happily rearranged a bunch of tables, and along with a very helpful staff, brought everyone's meals and drinks quickly. The food was perfectly prepared, delivered hot and with a smile. We've been stopping by every couple of years since the 1990's while we're visiting friends, and the quality and service has been consistent every time.

Fish and chips yet you have to pay extra money for the chips avoid this place at all costs

Actually, I was disappointed woth the food. I've always heard very good recommendations about this place, when I went I didn't enjoy the food. Fish was overcooked, chips I couldn't eat....was hard and no taste. The mangerthere was rude with unwelcoming face and attitude. Even the sauce not tasty. Was strange. Really sorry, but compare with other 2 popular fish and chips places in the same street and area. This one is the lowest rank for me. Not recommended 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Charged us 2.5x the quoted service fee after forgetting about the table…multiple times

The haddock without batter and the fresh peas were fantastic. We had shrimp cocktail to start and some chips. Two glasses of red wine topped off the dinner and we were in heaven. The staff are amazingly friendly and the prices very reasonable. You can also get fish and chips but we had the fish with no batter - one cod and one haddock. They were both fantastic. This is not the fanciest but is among the best places in all of london. A hidden jewel. The restaurants in historic Marylebone Lane and every month the area gets better and better. Post dinner we walked in some of the boutique stores on Marylebone Lane and on Marylebone High Street. It is full of great new stores and restaurants and bars. This is one of the amazing areas of London that is special.

Three of us had lunch and the food was good,nice fish,lovely chips ,decent mushy peas,bread and butter and cups of tea. Good service from friendly staff. We have been regular visitors to The Golden Hind every time we have been in London over the past 10 years but sadly today we have decided no more as it is just far too expensive now for a midweek lunch. We opted for regular haddock,chips and peas. Portion sizes are fairly average. The fact that all the items are priced individually makes it really expensive. £15.95 for a slice of battered cod. £3.95 for chips on the side. £3.95 for mushy peas. Add in small cups of tea,which they bring way before the food,so we had to order another round to drink with meal (£3.50 for one cup of tea). Our bill was just under £110 once they add on 12.5% service charge to bring the food you order to your table, for basically an average sized portion of fish,chips and peas with a slice of bread and butter each. Highly doubtful that we will visit again as it is just far too expensive.

Just didn't meet the mark. Fish and chips tasted really bland. Chips had no crisp or flavour. Mushy peas a little too rough and thick for my liking, had a bit of a raw taste too. Shrimp cocktail was okay I guess. Overall disappointed given the price point, I just didn't taste any finesse or personality in the food.

By far the best fish n chips I’ve ever had. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner Jason, who from his initial hand shake, you know you’re going to get taken care of. The service is meticulous, the food speaks for itself and the location is par none (especially for the price). You would be a fool to go anywhere else. Thank you for the experience you guys!

The food is superb. I ordered a haddock Fish and Chips, they tasted great, and I didn’t feel greasy or bloated at all. Portion is right on point! The place can get quite crowded and stuffy, and bathroom is small. This is not really an issue. My biggest gripe with them and reason for below 5 stars is the service. The male staff was super nice and accommodating, and even gave out lollipops to all the ladies of our table which was quite a cute gesture. The same couldn’t be said of the female Eurasian looking staff, she looked irritated, and stated that we couldn’t split the bill by item or more than 3 ways. She said we could only split it by half. I found it ridiculous because I’m sure there are occasions where there are multiple parties sitting at the same table ordering different items. I doubt those ppl were okay with just splitting it by half. When we had no alternative but to accept splitting the bill by half, I saw her using her phone as a calculator to split the bill which I see as a contradiction to her own statement and reason. Anyways her demeanor and lack of cooperation left a sour taste for me. Food was great though !

Hands down the best fish and chips in London! The food is so fresh, fantastic quality and delicious! The staff are so welcoming and friendly, particularly Jason who is the most enchanting host. He's so wonderful to watch in action making sure he interacts and looks after each of his guests. A must for people visiting London and a great place for locals to support and enjoy a rare local business in the centre of London! Truly love this place!

The service was very nice and welcoming. We ordered Cod, Haddock, Salmon fishcakes, chips and garden peas. The cod and Haddock were excellent. The chips and salmon fishcake were very boring. The chips seemed just reheated (which I doubt is, I am sure they were fresh but it’s to give annidea of the taste). The salmon fishcakes had barely any salmon in them and I would definetely not recommend them. Go for haddock or cod!

I’m so sad to review The Golden Hind so poorly, as it came highly recommended. I was so eager to try their sought-after fish and chips (I ordered the haddock) and, very unfortunately, I found both the fish and the chips had little to no flavor at all. I was shocked to discover that I could hardly taste the tartar sauce either. There was so little taste that I thought I might have caught a bug that affected my taste buds, but sadly that was not the case. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff were fantastic, but unfortunately I will not be returning.

The Golden Hind is a good, if slightly pricey fish and chips place. It’s not the best and is a bit overhyped on “best of” websites. The fish portions are generous and well fried, but chips are a separate purchase. Batter seriously lacked in salt, unfortunately. Greek pickles were excellent, however. Greek salad was fine, but unremarkable. Desserts: spotted dick was bland, although the hot custard was nice. Sticky toffee pudding was better. Be aware if you have allergies that all frying is in peanut (groundnut) oil. In sum: it wasn’t a bad meal, but it was pricey for a mediocre plus one. My advice is to try a different chip shop.

Excellent fish and chips restaurant that first opened in 1914. Aside from the excellent fish we loved the Calamari. Nice clean restaurant with friendly and attentive staff, will visit again.

I have been dining here for a number of years, fairly regularly. The personalised service by the family run business is always outstanding. The food is the main draw...and boy is it worth it. Having experienced many of the restaurants offering what would seem like a simple cuisine...only few have really mastered the consistent quality and taste. The recent change to their Chip supplier has propelled the chips to a whole different level... The battered Cod and haddock are absolutely super light and crispy on the outside with succulent white flesh on the inside. To round up....the traditional apple crumble with warm custard....will remind you of the glorious days of your youth....or be a pleasant surprise if you are tasting this British desert for the very first time... All in all a super place to enjoy the best fish and chips in London And oh....don't forget the pickled onion and gherkins!!

Overhyped and overpriced. Doesn't live up to its reputation. Very expensive for what it is. The map displayed next to the entrance displays the take-out prices... without specifying it too much. Remember that service is not included..

I think the best fish in the town. I only dont like their fries but still ok. Fishh is tasty and the most important thing is their oil is not make you feel bad after you eat the fish. It’s not heavy all.

Fantastic fresh fish made in exquisite ways at a wonderful low-key atmosphere. Although the place is well known for its fish and chips, I went with the steamed plaice and it was exquisite as it was really fresh and properly cooked. Jason and his team live up to the long history of the place. Looking forward to the next time there!

We went here as it was listed in the top fish and chip restaurants in London, but sadly it did not live up to it's name. The chips were average (at best) - seemed like they were reheated. The fish was nothing special, especially for a place that specialises in it. My wife ordered the calamari but it was overcooked and rubbery - she didn't like it much. I would try other options.

We were there with family for 'Fish and Chips Sunday.' The place is very touristy and quite expensive. Tables are placed very close to each other, so it's quite loud. Really disappointing, been here occasionally for the past 9 years and the quality has drastically reduced. Prices way too high for mid/dry fish, chips not great and mushy peas tasted like toddler food pouch food. The worst was the service, for a simple menu restaurant (essentially a chippy), the service was extremely slow, taking too long to order mainly and the tables weren’t cleaned before we sat down, had to request for it to be wiped down. I don’t think I’ll be coming back sadly, what once used to be a gem has now turned into a tourist spot.

A place we'll always go back to every london trip. This time we brought the children. We ordered steamed salmon for them as they were recovering from a scratchy throat.

Found this gem of a spot by fluke- I was looking for something else when I passed by and instant cravings of fish and chips hit me. The Haddock was fabulous and the chips were oh so good. Fantastic fish and chips in Marylebone. Clean restaurant, fantastic cod, haddock and place. Chips arrived thick and hot. Mushy peas on a next level. The guys working there have been there for a very long time and they are always treating customers right. Thank you for serving us and looking forward to many more in the future.

A Tourist’s idea of a good fish and chip shop. A nice restaurant, good area, comfortable and good service. The problem is if you’re coming here for good fish and chips you’re unlikely to find any. My chips were mediocre as was my fish, not terrible but there is so much better than what this place serves up.

Fish was served soggy (how can you serve fried fish in Britain soggy?!), chips were basically flavorless until doused in tons of vinegar. My napkin and plate both had hairs on them. Service was inattentive. Seems like an overpriced tourist trap.

A traditional fish and chip shop - been there for over 100 years and still serving excellent food. I had the fish cakes which were excellent.

We were deeply disappointed when the manager failed to honor our confirmed reservation for myself and my family. Despite having a confirmed reservation, we were informed that there were other pre-bookings made before us for the same number of people at the same time, which seemed suspicious given the circumstances. Our presence, especially with children, appeared to be met with disdain. Despite enduring the cold weather and having children with us, we opted to dine outside the restaurant. On a positive note, the service staff displayed commendable professionalism and warmth. While the fish dish provided some enjoyment, we believe there are superior dining options available elsewhere.

A real hidden gem. Enjoy the crispy beer batter haddock fish and British beer Curious Brew. Fries order is separate. Small corner restaurant celebrates 100 years of heritage this year and located on restaurant-lined Marylebone Lane.

Found Golden Hind when we were stationed in London in the early 80s. Delighted to re-discover it when stationed here a second time in late 90s. Now a required stop every time we come to town to visit two grandsons and their parents. Fried haddock, chips, Greek salad, and of course, Spotted Dlck with custard as served when ships were wood and crews were iron. Fantastic meals and wonderful memories. Keep it up.

Great Fish n Chips of course. The Cod was flaky and fresh and the breading was light, crispy and golden. Perfectly executed. Decent sized piece. All items appear a la carte. We also had the Greek Salad which was as expected. Pretty basic but satisfying. Ambience was really nice and cozy. Good for a date with a special person or with friends or family enjoying a nice meal together. Really cute neighborhood too!!

Here on a layover and obviously wanted to get some fish and chips. This place was pretty well reviewed and on a few lists that gave it some credibility so I decided to check it out. It is small, unassuming yet incredibly nice, and looks new, but is certainly not. It’s been passed down for generations in the same location by a couple of different families. I walked in without a reservation and was seated immediately, Even though there was a full house. The waiters and the owner paid great attention to service & hospitality, and were incredibly kind and accommodating. I ordered the house rosé, the fried cod, the chips and the mushy peas and was satisfied. Excellent quality, incredibly fresh and delicious, generous portions. When I was finished, the waiter asked me if I wanted some coffee or dessert, but I was, no pun intended, stuffed to the gills. I got the check and was on my way, and the owner was outside, holding the door, both greeting incoming customers and bidding fun farewells to the customers that were leaving. The atmosphere was excellent And the place was lively, spotless, and well kept. Will definitely visit again when I’m in town. This is an excellent experience.

Very good fish & chips! It was fresh and healthy despite the frying, the oil used was good. Very nice owner who takes the time to chat with his customers. However, it is a bit cramped in the restaurant and it can be difficult to move around.

My only issue was it appeared they didn’t salt the food when it came out the fryer, was well cooked just short on the seasoning

Dlouho jsme hledali restauraci, kde si dáme oběd a tato byla jediná volná, ale rozhodnutí jít zde nelitujeme, ačkoli zde bylo docela těsno, jelikož je restaurace maličká. Obsluha byla rychlá a až na vyjimku velice milá. Dali jsme si tradiční fish&chips a calamary&chips a obojí bylo velice chutné. K pití jsme vyzkoušeli UK pivo, také velice chutné. Možná platba kartou.

Friend has egg allergy. Having asked waitress whether or not there was egg in fish dishes, was told all fried fish did have in batter. Having then decided on a prawn salad was given Marie Rose sauce. Waitress called back. Does it contain egg? Checked with kitchen...yes! Not good. I had salmon fish cakes which were tasteless and mushy. Not great.

Die Chips kamen wohl direkt aus der Tiefkühltruhe in die Mikrowelle,anders ist die weiche Konsistenz nicht zu erklären,das bekommt selbst ein Fastfood besser hin.Der Preis für das schmale Stück Fisch von 16£ plus 12% Service,ohne Chips wohlgemerkt,ist auch für Londoner Verhältnisse eine Unverschämtheit. Pubs in der Portobello Road, schaffendes wesentlich besser,wenn auch nicht billiger.

The Fish and Chips here were absolutely amazing! We ordered the Cod and Haddock fried fish which was so flavorful and the chips were very good aswell. Another dish we loved was the Scampi which was some of the best fried shrimp i've ever had. The service was excelent, the food came out wonderful and there was not a wait for a table. It was a wonderful experience and if your in London I would 100% recommend that you stop by.
