I’ve been dining here whenever I visited London for 30 years now. The food especially the roasted meats were consistently good, but the dim sum and stir-fried dishes could be great or not depending on the chef. On the last trip the dim sum was not as good as usual, the beef horfun too salty, but the egg fried rice was pretty good.

We dined here on Sunday, and since we weren't very hungry, we only ordered two dishes. We had one portion of roast duck and crispy pork belly, which included only 6 slices of duck, costing £21.80. We also ordered a plate of spinach, which was around £18. Along with two bowls of white rice and two Chinese teas, the total came to £58.10! This seems excessively overpriced. The waitress even asked if we would like to leave a tip. The bill wasn't itemised, so we weren't clear what exactly the £18 charge was for. Given the amount of food we had for this price, it was definitely too expensive.

Food was OK but ridiculous prices. Dim sum was 3 times as expensive as what I can get back at home. Aware this is London prices but just a few min down the road you can save yourself 20-30%. After adding 12.5% the waiter still asked if we wanted to add tips - did he not realise we paid 12.5% extra already ?!

In a town where ethnic restaurants are everywhere, this one stands out. First, it can cope with large parties - we were 10 - easily. Second, it is really good for kids, including young kids. And the food is outstanding. It's the best in Queensway's mini Chinatown and, in our opinion, one of the best 'normal' (ie. not hoity-toity, overpriced, fashionable) restaurants in central London as a whole. Try the dim sum, and some of the veggie and fish dishes are brilliant. Book ahead if you're going at anything like a popular tome

I followed online recommendations and went to a restaurant in London with my husband and 3-year-old daughter. The food was decent, though I felt it was overpriced compared to similar dishes I've had in Asia. We ordered a combo of roasted duck and char siu, garlic sauce spinach, eggplant stir-fried with minced pork, egg fried rice with shredded chicken, a beer, and a bottle of still water, totaling GBP 85.70. I made the mistake of not realizing the price included VAT and a 12.5% service charge. The waiter suggested adding the service charge to my bill, bringing the total service charge to 22.5%. While the service was satisfactory and the staff friendly, I found the service charge excessive.

The Food was mediocre for the price (average London prices), we got asked if we wanted all the food coming out at the same time and we said we would like it staggered (like usual for Chinese food) so the waiter looked flustered and ran off to then come back and tell us we can’t .. why bother asking then. Getting the waiters attention was also very hard, continually ignoring us when we were asking for drinks as well as the last of the food because they failed to bring everything out - so we had almost finished and everything had gone cold then we had to ask for the dim sum. Finally when it came to pay, we didn’t want to pay the service charge of 12% since the service was atrocious. We got told “no” and that is was stated on the menu beforehand, so the manager was called over and he continued to almost intimidate us into paying - he finally backed down when he read it wasn’t compulsory, but it required quite a bit of effort to do so. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

My friend and I planned to do lunch at this restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant first because my friend was late due to the train delay. A Chinese waiter asked if I were ready to order. I told him that I would like to wait for my friend. Later, a waitress told me that I had better place order for it took time to prepare food. I then placed order for 3 sets of dim sum. Shortly after, the same waiter asked me again when my friend would arrive. I was very frustrated for being treated like this. When the waiter asked me the third time when my friend would arrive so that we could place more orders, I decided to pay the bill and leave. I had not even finished my dim sum! If a restaurant only cares about pushing the diner to place order so as to generate revenue more quickly, how would they be serious in preparing the food?! And as a matter of fact, based on what I ate so far, the quality was just average. Given such poor service, it's the worst restaurant I had ever tried in China Town. Seriously, avoid this restaurant.

Forty years ago, my now wife and I met, as neighbours in the Beaumanor Mansions flats opposite this restaurant. There were at that time, similar eateries displaying the delicious duck and pork hanging in the windows, but we were too poor to eat in restaurants. The pizza hut on the corner of Moscow Road was a treat for us! So, we've got a bob or two now and on a visit to London, decided to try these dishes, that aren't really available in the provincial Chinese restaurants where we live. I know my way around any Anglo/Chinese menu pretty well but saw many things new to me being served to the many diners enjoying the food at Gold Mine. I won't bore you with details of what we had, but you could do worse than to start with the delicious golden meats hanging in the window. The staff were friendly and helpful. Was it worth the wait? You bet!

Never go again because of arrogant and horrible services, and unfair treatment! We booked, over the phone, for our company biz dinner at 7pm tonight , and during booking there was NO mentioning of max dining time. We arrived at 6:30pm when the restaurant is completely empty and we are seated. 45 mins later (19:15), a card machine is put on our table asking us to pay the bill and asked us to leave at 1930, implying max 1 hour dining time. We (3 pax) ordered 6 dishes and spent £115. We asked for more time as it is a business dinner, the captain is adamant with his extremely arrogant tones, claiming a lot of people waiting outside and we "MUST have to go at 1930 because we arrived early". We asked the next table if they were told "1 hour dining time" when they arrived, they said "No". So clearly it was unfair treatment on us, so we asked for more time, we ended up only allowed to stay for 10-15 mins more. And there was no apology from the restaurant at all. Imagine if you spent £35-40 per head in any restaurant, do you expect "1 hour max dining time". This kind of services are not only horrible, but also detrimental to the F&B industry. I would suggest anyone who hasn't been to this place please think twice. Fast Food with "worse than NO services". Utterly Ashamed.

They waiters are super rude! Don’t recommend if you want to experience what we understand as a “decent dining”. Yes I used the word decent because this place is so far from being an average restaurant. Their food is below average given its price. The workers are super rude and acted as if they never want any customers. Shout out to one karen (aged around 40, black haired) that gave us the worst dining experience. She used her elbow to push my face away when she was trying to collect a half full plate of chicken that we did not even finish. I came here for the first time recently as part of a group and it was a positive experience overall, but with a caveat. They've got a varied menu, it's decent value, and I enjoyed everything I ate, so the food quality is certainly good. The issue is the service was slow/below par at times, especially at the beginning. When our food started arriving after 40 minutes, 1/3 of our order was room temperature, so those items must've been waiting around a while. I also had to ask for a drink twice before I got one. In fairness, it was very busy at the time and it's a large place with many tables, so I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt that we were unlucky on this occasion, but still, we're paying customers and it shouldn't be our problem. In conclusion, it's definitely worth a visit if you want good Chinese food at reasonable prices and I will eat here again, but I hope service is better.

Unpleasant experience. We arrived with toddlers and were not offered an infant seat until I asked staff for one. One of the waiters who served us looked so bored and uninterested, and when he put our plates down two were covered in another person’s! yellow mush. He muttered “sorry” but did not seem sincere at all, then brought new ones. The food was extremely greasy and VERY overpriced. As soon as I left the restaurant, I started feeling unwell. I had FOOD POISONING! Kids had chicken noodles and there were literally 5 thin pieces of dry, overcooked chicken pieces covered in a pile of oily noodles. “Satay” was not nice - deep fried instead of seared and grilled as it should be served then drowned in an overly sweet, sickly peanut sauce. Spring rolls were average and I could make better from frozen ones out of a box from Lidl. To my horror, I was served “spinach with 3 types of eggs” and am certain the eggs were past their due date. I vomited within minutes of leaving the place in the Hyde Park toilets, feeling the spinach and old eggs churning in my stomach. So disturbing. I also ordered canned soda and it arrived warm. On paying for the ridiculously overpriced meal, the same blasé server acted miffed when our cards did not work (the machine read “transaction timeout”) but it was the restaurant’s machine that failed. It made us all feel awkward and unwelcome. The place is not clean and is extremely noisy. I had a terrible experience and will not be returning.

- Roast duck rice: duck skin could have been crispier but meat was tender and juicy, and the fats really melted in the mouth. The rice and gravy were really comforting, and definitely ask for chilli because it ties everything together. - Prawn cheong fun: the cheong fun could have been thinner but the prawns were big and this hit the spot too!

Singapore fried rice noodles like soy sauce fried rice noodles, not at all like Singapore fried rice noodles. The pan-fried radish cake has no radish flavor at all, and everything inside looks like powder.

I actually can only rate the Gold Mine on their absolutely atrocious service as I've not yet received any food. We arrived over half an hour ago expressing our desire to be out the door in 90 minutes so that we could watch the rugby later. However at this point we have not yet received any food. Maybe I'll revisit if I actually get to eat here.

This review is my honest experience. Food experience: I'm being generous and I'll rate them Average. Sweet and sour pork was average(£15+), salted prawn was average (£22+), belacan vegetable(£17+) barely tasted any belacan, rice was super average (£4+) per bowl, roast duck rice was slightly nice (£13+) but portion was small. Payment Experience: HORRIBLE. What I absolutely despised was a highly misleading bill. In Canada, you pay either for service charge or tips, you don't pay both. Gold Mine's misleading bill listed the items ordered and the total price without an itemised price breakdown. On top of that, the server was pushing for additional tips of min. 10% when a service charge of 12.5% was already included in the overall price, but you may miss that because you didn't get a price breakdown. When I questioned the server it was inferred the tips go to staff but the service charge doesn't. Service charges should go to staff. That is absolutely despicable. Lessons learnt: I was caught off-guard and paid the tip but next time I will decline the service charge and pay the tip that goes directly to staff instead. This establishment lost me as a customer. I am never returning.

Ordered half duck without bone from here. Barely any duck in a small takeaway box, charged £29 before delivery for it too. As much as I like their duck, it’s hard to justify the amount of duck I received for the price. Next time I would recommend going there and watching them chop it up.

They nake some of the best Dim Sum I have ever had. The place us very busy in the evening, you may have to queue for quite a while. But it is worth it for the food. Can be a bit to intimate when busy.

It's a good, honest restaurant. Unlike many places these days, you can tell that Gold Mine is all about substance over style. I really enjoyed the wonton soup. The wontons were large and contained whole, juicy, prawns. The broth was well seasoned without being overly salty. I also ordered three items from the dim sum menu, Shanghai style dumplings (Xialongbao) were delicate, and the soup and filling were rich with porky goodness. The glutinous rice with chicken in lotus leaf was fragrance and hearty. My favourite was the crispy beancurd and prawn cheong fun, I really enjoyed the combinations of flavours and textures. I've had cheong plenty of times before but seldom this nice. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a treat!! Edit: I came back Oct '23, just as good as before!!!
