Gokyuzu in Waltham Forest

Great food, we were quite a big group 25+ people so food and drinks did take a while on a busy Sunday but staff were nice and everyone seemed happy with the food and drinks. They don’t have a big selection of cocktails, for me I would prefer a wider selection. I had the mixed shish which was tasty and filling. They do include a 10-20% service charge that I don’t agree and was scared to ask for it to be taken off as I don’t think that’s fair.

I was very happy with the food and service at gokyuzu today. Can who was looking after us took good care of us. The food was very good one of the best turkish i have had in a long time!

Visited yesterday after a long while.... One thing I can attest to right away is the consistency in quality of food and service. I visited with family, and we ordered the mixed grill platter, which was amazing as usual. It had a mix of grilled chicken, lamb, pork chops, beef (I think) served over rice, some vegetables, and salad. The restaurant was not too busy, and the atmosphere was relaxing enough to give a comfortable and cosy dining experience without losing the buzz of activity of a highly sought-after restaurant. It was a good time out with great food and a decent price. The staff were courteous and helpful.

Went here last week for our mums birthday dinner. The staff were friendly and it had a family atmosphere. The food was lovely and as it’s Ramadan the place was buzzing with lots of families enjoying Iftar. Our favourite waiter was Can (pronounced Jan). He was so funny and sweet. We will definitely be back

You can come by car and eat without worrying about parking. Lahmacun, Kusbasili Pide, Shish kebab were delicious. The white cheese for breakfast tasted very strong. They put too much tomato and too little egg in the Menemen, it wasn't very good. The first thing that bothers you when you sit at the table is that the polish of the table is probably old and it’s sticky. It would be nice if they found a solution to this.

Great size portions Good service and value for money

Leaving do for a colleague-there were a lot of us .Got what I ordered at 3rd attempt ,not necessarily the fault of waiting staff as was quite noisy .Food service was quick and really enjoyed my Kleftiko when it finally arrived .

I’m very disappointed with the restaurant since we arrived the lady who organised the customer very rude, too ages to get the table we booked, also the prices are really high too expensive and small meals for the price, too noisy, bad atmosphere, the waiter looked stressed and tired and not happy because of the long shift, it was one of my favourite restaurant but not anymore, the management change which is not the same. We not visiting again Gokyuzu. The food took ages to come and we asked for tea and they said it was finished. Really bad experience in that restaurant for Mother’s Day.

Worst service and staff ever! They added extra items in our bill and didn’t want to remove it. Also the service was awful, we waited over an hour for food and drink, got the wrong items and had to call over and over the waitress to be served. when we asked the manager to remove the service charge he said that wasn’t optional. The menu says “a 10% discretionary service charge may be added”. He also said that I was complaining about the charge when I received the bill cause of the money and not the service. That’s disgusting!

Bit pricey but defo lovely Turkish food.

Been going here since its opened and it has now lost its appeal, the service today was zero to none and the waiters were just plain rude we had to constantly try and get the waiter's attention and the tables and chairs were sticky and dirty. Loud music just come on randomly during dinner which made it hard to hear yourself talk I don’t know if managements changed but it’s not the Gokyuzu we know. It’s time to find another Turkish place.

Food is great tasting however not worth the price. Service is absolutely awful. Its unheard of the fact that service charge is paid for more then 8 customers and for service that was not great at all. Dined in with a family of 10 and forced by the waiter to order more food as if we don't already know what to order, the many times we had been there before as our always go to place. Finished food but seemed like waiters were in such a rush to tidy the table when we were still having our drinks, not to mention courtesy of offering free turkish tea not being there anymore. This place has definitely forgotten the meaning of service charge and how to treat its customers.

First time trying it and I was really pleased, nothing to complain about. The food tasted great, the staff were friendly, not a huge wait for food. The restaurant itself is absolutely huge too The parking lot is quite large and there is no charge to use it which is another good bonus, as someone not from London I was worried about having to find parking etc.

We had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was not just bad, it was appalling. The staff were incredibly rude and made us feel extremely uncomfortable throughout our entire meal. It seemed like they were constantly glaring at us, as if we were unwelcome visitors from another planet. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on the poor service and uncomfortable atmosphere alone.

Become very pricey and even charge for tap water as they added a lemon slice. It used to be great value for money especially for families

We were served by Denis and he provided excellent service. I came with my niece and he was very friendly. The food came very fast and we were sat down quite quick as it does get very busy on the weekend.

Amazing experience at Gokyuzu. Food was fabulous. We went to celebrate a birthday and Gokyuzu didn’t disappoint us. We ordered Hot Meze sharing Platter which was 8/10 and it costed £21.50. It had good selection of things, something for everyone to like. Lahmachun £6.5 was fresh and delicious Full Grill Platter £67 This was star of the night! With lamb ribs and kebabs! Extremely good! It was good enough for 4-5 people. We ended our night with their complimentary turkish tea. Overall a great experience and would definitely be coming back again. Fully halal.

It's really sad that it only takes one bad experience in service to not want to return again. Even though the food is good, they managed to ruin the experience when I had to ask for water 5 times before they finally brought it to the table. It was unbelievable. It was such a simple task that took 5 requests in a span of over 20 minutes. It took so much of my energy to see such a level of incompetence, plus the faces of the staff look so miserable. Kills the mood.

Friendly helpful staff, proper busy on a Saturday night. staff running around busy. Very busy. Queue outside Saturday night at 8pm when we left, so get there early. The food was very nice, colourful and tasty. Will go back.

Restaurate turco con gran aceptación. Bien organizado, con muchos y eficientes camareros. La comida buena y abundante, con detalles añadidos que mejoran la experiencia. Love this restaurant. One of my very favourite Turkish restaurants. Food is always on point. Sharing platters are worth it for large group. Have tried quite a few options of the menu and have never been disappointed. Massive place so no need for reservation and can always walk in. Always lively atmosphere and nice ambience but can be nosy sometimes. Baklava is very tasty too

This is a warning for people with allergies. We recently happened to dine out at Gokyuzu Chingford with my sister who has a gluten allergy. As with any bigger restaurants, we spoke to our server regarding her gluten intolerance and went about our meal, also paid 10 percent service charge on top of our bill because of this! We come home and my sister had a swollen belly, ache and intestinal bleed that showed up in her stool. I called to talk to the manager since they also charged us separately for preparing food with allergies, but they took absolutely zero responsibility. They want a doctor’s report, which she can’t get since she’s only visiting (unregistered with gp) and its not worth going to the emergency and wait for 11 hours (our hospitals usual wait time) just to show a restaurant that she got bloated because of their food. Next they’ll ask the patient to get an internal scan to show them the exact damage of the food, and lets be real with NHS waiting lists that could take up to a year, and who would pursue and allergy complaint for that long. Extremely unprofessional and absolutely disgusting behaviour from the staff with zero empathy for customers. Ps. We have dined out at several restaurants successfully and yes turkish ones too without any complaints! It’s all about the level of care the staff has! Also I didn’t once ask for a refund, infact I was only pushing the fact that they should probably say no to people with allergies so that no one else winds up sick!

We as a family went there for dinner on the 12th of feb 2024 around 11pm and ordered the jumbo plater as well as some starter and sides bill came to a total of £130 I called in advance to let them know we will be coming whilst we are eating they forced me to pay up bear in mind there was an additional service charge added on top. Exactly 12pm they kicked us out even though I explained give us few more mins please staff were sooo rude they swiched off the lights even though they collected the bill in advance and forced us out at exactly 12:00 I understand it’s closing hours then as a paying customer I had every right to enjoy my meal why take order at last min and wellcome the guests if that’s how you treat your customers Very poor service food wasn’t too bad but management and service awful Very bad experience

I got delivered Lamb kebab and It was mind blowing! Comes a Little bit dry but with garlic and spicy sauce, that's incredible!

Amazing place. Been several times already and now after a long while with the family on my dad's birthday. Thanks a lot for some amazing food and family atmosphere.

The service is very quick, we got a table straightaway. Salad and bread was served within a few minutes and our order followed. The waiters are also very quick at clearing the table, which can be off putting when you’re still trying to eat. Every time I go, I get this feeling that they want you to pay and be gone before you have had the chance to enjoy your food. The food and atmosphere is nice, so we return.

Our guests were complaining with no water and extremely slow service. b) We were forced to order jumbo platters with meze which we didn’t want and agreed on something different before booking. Not nice forcing your guests to order what you want. We also only wanted 15 platters but they forced us to get 18. In the end so much food was wasted which isn’t very environmentally friendly. The company isn’t very green or carbon neutral. c) Manager does not know how to manage- he was causing conflict where a manager’s job is to conflict resolute. He was arguing with us instead of being calm and fixing the problem. d) Booking manager (only female manager at this branch) lied to us- to settle the booking she was promising us all sorts of stuff from saying her team will help with decorations (they didn’t), that we can set up from 11am to 1pm (we were told to leave after 1.5 hours), the lady manager also said we can have the small seating area upstairs until 5pm latest but she lied again as on the day we were told to leave at 3:30 and all our guests were in shock as the event was to end so early which isn’t nice. Gokyuzu please refer this manager lady and man on the day for training / replace them as they are not fit to work in the organisation. e) We were not giving any Turkish tea at the end. The team said the machine was broken but when our guests started leaving and only 20 guests left they brought out the tea. So they lied as there were too many guests to serve. (They were serving tea downstairs fine) f) We were not allowed to bring our own drinks. Considering we spend £2500 would be nice if we could have brought our own drinks. Poor service really kills the overall picture of a restaurant so take notes.

Exceptional service paired with exquisite cuisine. I'm in foodie heaven!

As a Turkish man I must say that this place is the worst restaurant I have ever dined in my life. When I entered the place with my family, a kind of club music was loudly playing, when we told the manager to volume down, it took a while to turn the volume down. Since we seated, I guess all those waiters served us one by one instead one particular waiter would serve for a particular table in genuine places. We had ordered lahmacuns, it was raw and the mince on it was not properly spreaded, it had lack of stuffing. When we told this problem to one of those waiters, the waiter ridiculously tried to discuss with us as if everything is alright. We have been unpeaceful in this place and wanted to leave it immediately. Moreover, while leaving the place, one of waiters shouted us in a way we could hear that "all those crazy people find us!". This disrespect is absolutely a disaster. Apparently, here is not well-managed place addressing to low quality people. It is better this place to shut down permanently.

I've been there many times. but the last time I didn’t like it January 21, 2024. The meat was raw. service, you had to call someone to bring a menu, to bring water. so that they would bring me the bill. and they also charged me 12.51 for the service, which was bad this time.

As always customer service and food will not let you down. If you feeling for Turkish breakfast this is the place to go.

We was sat down immediately as it was not that busy however trying to get a waiters attention is a myth. It's like you have been forgotten whether you wanted to place and order or extras whilst eating. Such a big restaurant and the diployment of staffing is terrible. They should be spread around and attentive to customers when required. Food was nice but not like wow and not for what I paid.

Went here for a birthday dinner and ordered the family jumbo platter. The portion sizes for the meat could have been better. There was not enough rice on the platter, basically was able to feed 2 or 3 people at a push. I would recommend ordering separately for everyone because then everyone would get a decent amount of food on their plate. We also ordered some chips and cheesy chips, although that was quite disappointing. We've been here before, ordered cheesy chips and they did it perfectly. The cheese was fully melted. But this time, it looked like they cooked the chips and just dashed some shredded cheese on top. We told the waiters again that we asked for cheesy chips, not cheese and chips. We waited and they came back with the chips basically looking exactly the same as they did before except now it looked like it was microwaved for a few minutes and the cheese was stale. All in all, the food was delicious (apart from the "cheesy" chips). Most of us continued wearing our coats and scarves as the restaurant was quite cold which wasn't ideal. The complimentary bread in the beginning with salad was really nice to have. The waiters were really lovely and attentive. Plenty of parking spaces as well where we also saw some horses around! Would recommend coming here for the food, just very expensive. There are better Turkish restaurants that's worth the price.

The only reason I did not give five stars is because the drive into the restaurant is rancid. There is rubbish and old scraps of building material that greet you upon taking a turn from A406. Food is amazing, and desserts are even better 😋

This remains my go to place for Turkish food. There has been substantial shrinkflation over the last year or so making it an expensive treat rather than a regular place to eat, but the quality is fantastic.

I have visited Gokyuzu numerous times and I must say the food has always been consistently fresh and delicious. The atmosphere truly always transports me to Turkiye. I recommend visiting on odd weekdays to avoid the weekend rush. While the food is always on point, it just misses that final “va va voom” for me to give it a 5-star rating.

Disappointing experience as the food was really nice but the service was appalling. The manager tried to salvage our experience but honestly, the majority of the staff at this restaurant were frankly, rude. We went early in the day so it wasn’t even full in there so couldn’t even give a free pass for staff being run off their feet. We made specific requests due to a food allergy of one of our group. This was not really taken into account. We said we would pay to have one item removed and replaced with something else and were told they don’t do that. Unless the meal comes in one sealed microwave container I still don’t know how difficult it is not to put said item on plate and replace it with alternative item we were going to pay for. To add insult to injury, when I asked for the bill, the waitress started speaking to her colleague in another language (RUDE) and I decided we would not be paying the service charge. Left a tip for the one waitress who was quite sheepish but on the back of that experience would never return there again.

Nice food but charges you some extras which is not good because people paying already too much to their food also if they serving halal Turkish style food then why they serve alcohol

The atmosphere was great. the service was fantastic as the staff were readily available to help and assist you even if you wanted to take pictures of yourself, lol. The food was great, people patronized here a lot, the lambs were really tasty, I personally recommend the lambs to anyone as they were yummy 😋 so much that I ordered for an extra meal as take-out.

Last but not least before the New Year of 2024!! Forgot to remember to mention what lovely meals we've had this Summer of 2023 once for Eid Ul Adha and a second trip here with family to mark a special occasion. Thank you for always managing great numbers with calmness, patience and great communication by the door supervisor and attendance for tables always and serving staff. Gokyuzu used to be really good but not anymore. They have gone the way of nice decor and fancy setting while the food quality and portions have gone downhill. A jumbo platter for £80+ with one skewer of Adana shish to share between 6 people is pathetic. Jumbo platter is just flooded with cheap cuts like chicken wings and fatty boney lamb ribs and very little lamb shish, chicken shish and adana kofte . Lahmacun were burned to a crisp and the bread was stale. Wont be back.

Very good Turkish restaurant; lovely atmosphere; good service.

Nice location off the A406. Great looking place. Lots of people. The music was a bit night club. Made reservation window seat due to birthday balloons, upon arrival service didnt read the reservation and gave all window seats away we had to tussle a window seat back. The food as always is great. Prices are high.

Went there last night with 10 friends at 9pm. Booked online. They gave our table to someone else. We had to wait around. Then ordered 2 platters for four and 1 platter for two. Platter for two didn't arrive. After 30 minutes I enquired - the waiter forgot to inform the kitchen. Then we ordered dessert - took another 30 minutes. We refused it and asked for the bill. They had the audacity to add service charge. We made them take that off. Overall extremely disappointed at the experience. I generally like Gokyuzu and have been a few times previously. Will not be going back. Plenty of better options out there.

Extremely disappointed with the service. We ordered £228 worth of food. Drinks came 20 minutes after the food, asked for some water which didn’t come and when we paid we asked for the complimentary Turkish tea which we waited for 10 minutes only to be told “it’s finished”. Still 15 minutes to close and we would have only taken 5 minutes to drink it. Could the manager or owner please get in touch ASAP

Food looked and smelt great. It is a bit pricey but food was worth it. Wrap up warm here as there were no heating facilities and we were all very cold. Took 3 attempts to get the bill but apart from that , lovely night.

This is a spot I usually look forward to going to for special occasions over the last 5 years. But yesterday, the food was just above average (price doesn’t justify it) but the worst part was the service from the waiter and manager that served us. After the paying the bill, we had a polite word with them that the service we received wasn’t up to standard especially with our bill (over £200+). At that point, the manager rudely told us our complimentary tea was no longer available and even told a female waiter who was coming out of the kitchen with them to turn around! Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Won’t be returning.

Zero customer service very rude staff half cooked food overall terrible experience

Not been here for a while now. The food was great. The service however was a big disappointment. The second round of drinks had to be chased on a few occasions and still did not arrive until a good 20 minutes later. We also asked for butter which also had to be chased several times. The starter even came out before the waiter eventually brought the butter to the table. It didn’t seem the restaurant were understaffed but no one seems to know what they were doing and a lot of staff seemed to be standing around. I definitely will not be rushing back.

There was nothing special or Extraordinary. Plates were cold which made food to get cold quickly. Atmosphere was quite chilly you don't feel comfortable while have your food. Food presentation needs some work. Platter was just like a pile of items. I was really disappointed 😞

Looks nice and clean, friendly staff. The only downside was that I felt the kebab was a little salty for my personal taste, and so was the other dish I ordered. overall, it was okay but not great.

S tier food, everything was perfect and amazing. Service could have been better. Extra tea was served as the order got mixed up, then an extra coke was billed when we only ordered 4 drinks but got refunded immediately. This is a very busy Turkish restaurant. The service was extremely fast and the waiting staff very polite. The food was very good. However it was very expensive for what it was. £3.50 for a coke and £22 for a kebab is a tad excessive.
