Lovely central setting in ilfracombe. Staff good and ambience relaxing. Food extremely good. A good mix of seafood and Italian offerings. Need to book. Independent business which makes it feel very welcoming.

Mushroom risotto was gorgeous. The homemade amaretto trifle was just beautiful. Highly recommend.

We have never had such great tasting Italian food..host and his staff were so attentive and friendly..so much so we tried Friday last week and returned Sunday..consistently excellent 👍

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said. It was one of the best restaurants in ilfracombe. Food was fantastic and so was the service and the atmosphere and we will definitely go back there when next in ilfracombe or nearby. This restaurant is want to go to if you're in the area.

Came to ilfracombe for a couple of nights always like an Italian. Saw reviews good so we booked before coming down. Seafood spaghetti was ok not alot of fish in it but tasted nice . Husband had calzone which was meat free he thought it ok but not wow Place was friendly and very busy which says alot . If we were near again we would pop in

Great tasty food, friendly staff lovely busy atmosphere without feeling rushed

Dissappointed after reading all the great reviews. Pizza was flat with no rise in the dough at all. Risotto was good but no more. Wine good but expensive. As opposed to other reviews it didn't feel authentic at all to us. But hey ho each to their own..

Couldn't get in on our first attempt, so I had to book for the following evening. The food was excellent, as was the service. It is not expensive and has a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will definitely be paying another visit the next time we're in Ilfracombe.

Had take away for 2 nights in a row while visiting Ilfracombe. Both times, the food was genuinely excellent - especially the Melanzane Alla Parmigiana - yummy! Highly recommend for some authentic and delicious Italian food.

THE best place to eat in Ilfracombe!! Forget fish and chips and Cornish pasties if you want quality and value for money THIS is the place for lunch or dinner. The service was excellent, the staff helpful and cheerful, and the food out of this world. A little place of Italy here!! Thank you and hopefully see you soon!!

Wonderful experience. Lovely friendly staff, great service and fantastic food. The restaurant was very busy but we were served promptly. Never felt rushed and treated like friendly. We will return.

This is our second visit to G&L and on both occasions (a lunchtime and an evening meal) the restaurant was very busy. Due to the popularity we could only have our table for two hours, which was fine for us. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was good. The four of us ordered a variety of dishes off the menu and we all enjoyed what we had chosen. We will definitely return on another occasion.

This is an absolute favourite! Never fails to deliver, with lots of choices and super home made dishes. Family approach but equally about food and the whole culture of enjoying good food!

Absolutely delicious!! Authentic and an Italian treat in Devon! We went while on holiday as a family of 4 and both children devoured their pizza they shared. I loved my mushroom tagliatelle and my husband thought the chilli oil was incredible with his delicious pizza! Not to be missed! Service, atmosphere and food was all incredible.

I have been here couple of times with family and had take away twice as often (It is not easy to get table) and all visits and all time we took food home, it was simply amazing . In regards to visits, it is always a pleasure to be there and experience everything. It is like everyone who works there and cooks there do everything the way they would like to be treated. Word perfection does not give this place justice. I highly recommend and will visit and order as often as I can and as often I am in Ilfracombe.

The managed to squeeze us in on a busy Friday night. Food was amazing and served fast too. Everyone was really friendly and they even gave my daughter a free ice cream coz it was her birthday. Thanks for a lovely experience, can't wait to come back!

OK. Delivers as an Italian Restaurant. Pizza not up to par but other dishes (Rissotto and sharing starters) good.

Really good experience had a nice meal. The veal could have been better but in no way bad. Great atmosphere and staff service could have been a bit more focused. But would not hesitate to go again.

Very pleasant experience from start to finish. The staff make the place but the food and the atmosphere are also great. Nothing was too much bother, all staff were very attentive and friendly, great with children.

Dropped in without a booking and the team found us an early table. The traditional Italian food was delicious and authentic. Very friendly staff who made our visit enjoyable.

We hadn't reserved a place and found the place was fully booked . Staff were very helpful and squeezed us in an hour later . Well, the wait was worth it. the food was amazing . There is plenty of choice and excellent taste . Loved the parmasan grater and the black pepper grinder . The place had a lovely atmosphere and the staff made it very friendly to be there . 10/10 , a place to go .

Great Italian restaurant. A “must” if you come to Ilfracombe. The food is proudly cooked maintaining an Italian character. Giovanni and his wife, Donatella, are both charming and run this establishment with commitment and dedication. We dined here two nights in a row, both nights the restaurant was packed, so don’t forget to book in advance. 😅

Italian haute cuisine. This is the best Italian restaurant in the country. Simply the best. To say this is a traditional Italian undermines its sheer class. Every item on the menu (and we have eaten our way through most of it) is prepared with pure Italian passion . More more more... Ps and the espresso martinis are the best 👌

We had four different mains, everyone of them absolutely delicious, we all tried a bit of each other's. The owner's and staff could not have been more welcoming, friendly and professional, considering we didn't book beforehand. We all also highly recommend the amoretti trifle for desert, it was to die for. We will definitely return this restaurant on our next holiday in Ilfracombe, and wish to thank all the staff that made my birthday that little bit extra special.

Absolutely fabulous Italian family run restaurant. I would strongly recommend making a reservation well in advance to avoid disappointment. We ate here twice during our four nights stay in Ilfracombe. We called by during the day to check on availability and they squeezed us in for an early dinner. The menu is really wide and extensive and everything is freshly cooked. Authentic Italian cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious. Before we left we made another reservation for our last night. There is free car parking (after 6pm), just along on the sea front. We enjoyed our meals on both nights and would highly recommend Giovanni’s & Luca’s … it has to be the best place to eat in the town in our opinion. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming and they really wanted you to enjoy your dining experience with them. Truly absolutely fabulous!

Can I be Frank. The food is pre cooked. Not frozen but refrigerated. Hence it is not fresh was told things where prepped the day before. In all my time at Italian restaurants bearing in mind I work at a highly regarded restaurant in the West midlands where we make everything to order to a high standard, have I eaten sure a poor lasagne. The meat was clumpy and bitty and not moist and fresh. It also took 8 mins to come out - in my world that means they used Chef Mic. But either way they had ample time to prepare a fresh lasagne even if the pasta sheets where pre made which is to be expected. Poor to be honest and for them to get so enraged and loud taking into account the restaurant was busy and I was asking for then to keep it quiet as I was just making a true statement they all came over 4 of them and contined to shout and state there food is no frozen etc. I wouldn't reccomend personally but each to their own this was just my experiance.

Great atmosphere and equally matched by superb tasting food. I have worked in pizza restaurants for a decade when studying and have eaten a fair few pizzas. I can honestly say this is the best pizza I have ever eaten. The dough is tasty and light and so fresh. My partner chose to have a spicy pizza with extra chillies and was delighted when a dish of chillies in oil was brought just for him to spice it up as much as he wanted. And then dessert. How could we resist home made tiramisu or amaretto trifle? All were delicious. Worth every penny and highly recommended. Might be best to book to ensure of a table.

The only Italian restaurant in Ilfracombe and absolutely top notch, with a great selection of all you usually expect. The service was very good and the food was magnificent. It's quite busy, so book a day or two ahead.

Went here for lunch with my wife and daughter a few weeks back on a day trip to Ilfracombe because we had been here a couple of times around 14 years ago and was really good quality then. Needless to say that it is still excellent quality at reasonable prices. The owners are very hospitable and as it turned out they had just taken it over on our previous visits. I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to revisiting, but I will not wait another 14 years 😉

A lovely warm welcome as usual, from everyone at this family run Italian restaurant this evening. Over the last few years it's become an essential part of our Ilfracombe visits. Last night we had such a good evening. Great food, all staff are warm and friendly, and we started chatting a little bit about recipes and ingredients, it's clear there is such passion there. Ilfracombe you are lucky to have Giovanni and Luca on your doorstep. We certainly wish they were in our home town.

A little piece of Italy in the centre of Ilfracombe! We hadn't booked a table but enquired early whilst passing, luckily there was a slot free on a table and we were warmly welcomed into this family restaurant. There was a happy buzz in the restaurant and it felt more like being welcomed into a family home for the evening as several different staff members checked on us or served us directly. The food was beautiful, tasty and with the perfect amount of sauce etc. We had a choice from the Specials Board, a lobster ravioli which was really, really special. Puddings were very good. With obviously expert and passionate chefs and the honest and enthusiastic service this restaurant is a real treat.

Fantastic, authentic Italian food at reasonable prices. Super fast and efficient service, nice atmsophere. Would not not hesistate to recommend. Book in advance by telephone though to ensure a table.

Devon ( Ilfracombe). An Italian restaurant, you must make a reservation at least a day in advance. Excellent food, generous service. A real experience, highly recommend. I ordered lasagna, the food arrives very hot with red sauce + and chameleon. Wow!. Se debe reservar mesa uno o mas dias de anticipacion pero vale la pena. La cocina es de alta jerarquia. Es un de los pocos restaurantes que disfrute y quisiera volver. Pedi lasagna, vino con salsa roja y blanca. Una delicia que recomiendo.

This restaurant felt like we were sat in someone’s converted living room. The staff were friendly but sometimes it took a while to get someone’s attention. The pizzas were lovely. Unfortunately they couldn’t cater for gluten free very well. Prices were reasonable too! Would return for a takeaway but not to eat in

Booked for a meal with friends who were visiting after seeing other reviews and we weren’t disappointed. From start to finish the whole experience was perfect. The waiting staff were friendly and chatty and offered advice on food and wine combinations which was excellent. The food was beautiful as well and all of us were extremely happy. It was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last.

Discovered this place for take-away when the pandemic put a stop to eating in, been wanting to try it as a restaurant since then. Finally had the chance this holiday, wished we’d found it years ago. Wonderful authentic Italian food, excellent value, credit to chef who was happy to do something off menu despite being very busy on Easter Sunday. Couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome, even though we got our reservation time wrong and turned up late for which we are still truly sorry!

Great food and great service. Waiter saved the last portion of mussles for my son which was nice. Food was tastyand fresh. They have specials too. 04 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 1 coffee and bottle of wine about £120. Reasonable price for the food and service. If in the area definitely worth a try. May need to book at busy times.

Lovely Italian restaurant which is evidently popular with locals. Extensive menu with pastas, pizzas etc and a decent wine list (would recommend the Falanghina if you are looking for a delicious white). Very friendly and attentive staff. Would book ahead because it was quite busy on a Sunday evening in the off season.

Little gem of a place! Came for the theatre and was looking for a quick meal beforehand, hadn’t booked and they happily accommodated us - a family of 4. Stayed for all 3 courses in the end! Everything was delicious! Empty plates all round. Italy is one of my favourite countries to visit and this was genuinely like being there for 2 hours. I really wanted to keep it to myself, but I think it’s been discovered by many now, judging by the other great reviews on here, so thought I’d add to them. I shall be booking ahead next time, I think we got lucky tonight. definitely one to return to! Many thanks :)

My wife and I had a day off without the kids so decided to go to Giovanni and luca. They did not disapoint!! We were greeted by David who was very polite and cheerful and brought us over some menus. The food was absolutely outstanding!!! The setting was lovely and made you feel as if you were getting a real home cooked italian meal!! The desert I ordered was a Sbriciolata which is a crumble cake with ice cream..... trust me you will never have a dessert as good as this!!! I can't wait for our next visit. assolutamente fantastico
