Ginger Polish Restaurant in Barnet

I had read the good reviews but nothing prepared me for just how good this is for superb simple food in simple surroundings. My wife ordered Potato Pancakes with Hunters Stew and was warned she didn't need a starter. In fact, it was more than enough for two - and included cucumber in a light sour cream and mixed vegetable salad. I ordered Pea Soup but a Potato and Smoked Meat Soup arrived - it was sensational. I followed with Mixed Pirogi - again excellent. The charming woman in charge spoke enough English to take orders. The vast majority of people here appeared to be Poles although as I can't speak Polish I can't be sure. At £26 it was a bargain. The restaurant does a fixed 3 course lunch for less than £10.

I'm half-Polish and have been coming to Ginger Restaurant semi-regularly for roughly the last two years. I like to think I have a pretty good antenna for good Polish cuisine, and this restaurant absolutely nails it every single time I've been. Firstly, the value is just incredible. You can easily eat like a king for £25/head. The portion sizes are enormous. I'm a fully-grown man with a fairly large appetite and I sometimes genuinely struggle to finish my dishes here. The staff are more than happy to box up any leftovers, however (they charge 30p or so for packaging) and I refuse to let anything from here go to waste. They also have a brilliant daily set menu where you can order a soup of the day, main and compote (kompot is a fruit drink as opposed to a dessert) for roughly £9-£11. This rarely disappoints if you want a cheap and delicious meal. The menu is not too exhaustive but contains an excellent range of traditional Polish dishes. The pierogi and placki are excellent but some of the mains like their Placek zbójnicki (kind of like a giant potato pancake with beef/pork in a rich gravy/sauce) and Grillowana karkówka z dipem czosnkowym (grilled pork neck with garlic sauce) are just sublime. The service is always quick and the restaurant rarely gets too busy unless it's a Saturday evening. However, it is also relatively small (you'd really struggle to seat more than 30 people inside). The manager/proprietor is an absolutely lovely woman who could give lessons in customer service. A couple of the waitresses can come across as a bit curt to non-Poles but this is probably more of a cultural thing than actual rudeness (takes some getting used to, admittedly). Ginger Restaurant is now my go-to for friends and family visiting me in London. I've taken people from various different backgrounds/nationalities and they all love it. One of my cousins even held a wedding reception here! I sincerely hope it sticks around for the long term.

Este es siempre mi ir al restaurante cuando estoy en cricklewood. Buena comida, buena cerveza polaca y el personal siempre es amable y servicial. El único inconveniente es que cierra a las 8 pm. Definitivamente lo recomendaría.

Food is absolutely awesome every time i visit. Reminding me my childhood in Poland. We have been recently in Zakopane (Poland). Ironically Polish food in Ginger in London in much better then in Zakopane. Will definitely visit again. Great food, large portions, good prices, very friendly and helpful english and polish speaking staff.

Pyszne jedzenie, swietna obsluga. Porcje sa naprawde od serca i nie ma mozliwosci aby wyjsc nienajedzonym. Moj filet z piersi kurczaka byl soczysty, kruchy, a panierka bardzo cieniutka, czyli plus za nie powiekszanie optyczne porcji dodatkowa panierka. W restauracji jest swieze powietrze i absolutnie nie czuc zapachow z kuchni, min. smazenia na oleju. Jadlam barszcz z ogromnym krokietem- jak dla mnie to juz kompletny i wystarczajacy posilek, nie wcisnelam drugiego dania, wiec zabralam na wynos🙂

Tasty traditional food! Great service - everyone is super friendly, the food is fresh and cheap, there's free parking 7 days a week ! I totally recommend this restaurant.

Miejsce odwiedzamy że znajomymi już od dłuższego czasu, za każdym razem wychodzimy bardzo zadowolenie - smaczne jedzenie i bardzo miła obsługa, wszystko czego potrzeba 🙂

Been here twice and also took takeaway for Christmas Eve set menu. Pleasantly impressed by the friendliness of the host, good portions and tasty food, which gave great value for money.

Nice comfort food. Had the dumplings and goulash. Dumplings were great. Goulash was nice. Large portions as well. Will be back to try more. Restaurant is nicely decorated and toilets super clean!

He estado en el restaurante ginger muchas veces y el servicio y la calidad de la comida era normalmente bastante bien. El sábado pasado fuimos allí con mi familia como siempre, reservamos la mesa pocas horas antes. Cuando llegamos 3 mesas ocupadas y el resto vacío. Por el momento pedimos nuestra comida llegó otra pareja. No estaba lleno. Tuvimos que esperar a los entrantes durante más de media hora, y nuestras bebidas llegó después de que termináramos los entrantes. Dijo mi compañero shice la duración de la espera y la camarera respondió con un "sí, lo sé, no ve que está ocupado? '. . . La calidad de la comida que nos conocen y aman (y pedir cada vez) era muy pobre, a diferencia de otras veces que estuvimos allí. Sopa stroganoff ni siquiera tienen tiras de carne como debía y estaba aguada y cálido (nada cerca de calor). Comida principal era bastante buena.

Artificial taste of the compote, chicken soup made of cubes rather than chickens and vegetables and herbs, meat salty as hell (no, it's not typical for polish cuisine), finished with the mushroom sauce from the pack. Poor quality, not worth the money we paid.

Amazing place. Great food and lovely staff. Everyone makes you feel like at home. Food is so delicious and very generous portion. I’ve been going there for a while and not once my visit was less then 5*.

Shandeez is a hit! This came highly recommended from my Pilates instructor in MHK, Akara R. Her family lives in Cedar Park and she said they love Shandeez, and they are Persian, so I knew it was a must-try. Eric R. and I were in the area and decided to grab a late lunch here today. When we walked in, the restaurant was completely empty. Eric R. called out to see if they were really open, and suddenly a chef and a server popped out of the back and said hello.We ordered a pot of cardamom tea which was wonderful for this chilly day. I knew I wanted the gheymeh (beef stew with split peas) with eggplant. Eric R. wanted some sort of kebob plate, so he went back and forth with the very patient server until he settled on the soltani, which included chicken and ground beef kebobs. I also wanted to try the sour barberry sauce for the rice, which she put on the side for us.We were given warm pita and a plate of feta, mint, parsley, onion, and walnuts to start. We are this with sprinkles of sumac that was in a shaker on the table. It was soooooo good!The food came out hot and in abundance, beautiful saffron basmati rice for each of us. Everything tasted so good! Eric R. was worried that chicken breast would be dry, but it was marinated and juicy. I tried both of his kebobs which were great. I loved my stew - it melted in my mouth and the eggplant was plentiful. The barberries added a nice tang to the rice. We were stuffed so we had to take everything left to go (so we can enjoy it again later of course!!) - we were given a tea refill too during the meal. Others did show up including a food pick-up service, so it got a bit busy for a mid-afternoon time.I would definitely return to try other dishes on the menu! I will note that I am in love with Kasra, a Persian restaurant in Houston that was the first place I ever bumped from 4 to 5 stars on yelp, and my standards are set to that place.

Fuimos a un almuerzo tardío los domingos. Lugar es pequeño pero acogedor, el personal era muy agradable y acogedor y la comida estaba deliciosa! Grandes porciones y buen ambiente. Teníamos pierogi con carne, con patatas y kotlet tradicional verdura, y 'rosol "pollo sopa de fideos. Lo recomiendo a todo el mundo, se puede sentir como en la cena de la abuela.

Went there Saturday night with friends . Had the ham hock with roast potatoes and veg ,very good portions . This place never fails for good Polish food and beer .

Fui allí hace unos años, y es la única vez que he estado en un restaurante polaco. Todo era realmente una estupenda relación calidad-precio, y bigos era de primera categoría. Aunque la mejor parte fue el hecho de que era el cumpleaños de propietarios, y ella estaba dando bebidas gratis a todo el mundo. Terminé quedándome hasta altas horas de la madrugada, bebiendo cócteles y baile de extraña polaco polaco danza/música country...

Great place to try polish classics. Attentive service, delish food (cheese dumplings to die for!). Only one minus is for 3 tv screens playing constantly some rubbish - doesnt really create amazing dining experience. But maybe thats part of polish style...

Went with a large group of colleagues for a traditional Polish dinner and definitely got what we came for. The food was delicious and the portions huge, with most of us having to take some away in a doggy bag! The lady who runs the restaurant is very friendly and helpful. The place itself is lovely and traditional looking (I felt like I was in what I imagine Poland to be like). Lots of Polish people eating in there which proves it must be good! Will definitely return.

Good and large portions of Polish food. Not expensive. Friendly English speaking staff. You don't have to be Polish to go here.

The surroundings are not the most glamorous but when you enter the restaurant you immediately feel like at home in Poland...We always go for Knuckle, Wiener Schnitzel or pierogi - very tasty every time. Also potato pancakes with goulash are great. Frankly speaking whatever you choose you won't be disappointed.Very friendly staff and owner who makes you immediately feel like you are part of the family. The only thing we are always wondering is where did the name came from as ginger is not at all a popular spice in Poland.Overall Ginger its a place with delicious home made food and large portions. What not to like?

Hearty, wholesome, home cooking, the owner/ chef treats you like a guest in her home just fantastic grub at good prices. Avoid Sunday's long waits due to families dining.

We went at lunch time and it was a little cold. The welcome was warm enough though and the food really tasty. Great Polish beer. Must try the pickled herring next time.

Went to the ginger restaurant on Saturday evening with my father, 3rd time we have eaten there and as always the service and the food was excellent. It is starting to be a dependable place to eat when I travel up to Cricklewood to visit.......

I like come to Ginger restaurant because they have a very good and fresh food. Really polish menu, fantastic climate, friendly atmosphere. The menu for adults and children. They also have season tickets. Good prices. Highly recommended. I'll back soon.

Every single thing we ate here was totally delicious, the carrot salad, amazing, juice, tasty. The cabbage salad, totally delicious taste and texture. The pork escalope with mushrooms and cheese and garlic, out of this world. The chicken and pineapple and cheese, delicious. The mashed potato, very nice. The potato pancakes, very nice, it's accompanying wild mushroom sauce so tasty and delicious... I have been to many Polish restaurants and there is always something nice, but often quite a few things that are average, and I am not joking everything here is to me, amazing! Did I say amazing enough?The restaurant was really cosy too, the only thing that let it down was that is usually closes at 8h (but they stay open if you book and on special occasions) and there where not many people in there at all, but that was ok, we made our own atmosphere.

We had a lovely traditional lunch in this small but charming restaurant. The bigos and pierogi were very tasty and authentic; the portions large. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, with very good service. The 3 course set meals are tremendous value. We will visit again when next in the area.

Have been here a few times when I go up to see family. Not being polish you never know how the food is going to be as we try different meals each time. Always very enjoyable and reasonably priced.

We stumbled across this place and were so glad that we did. We liked everything about it. The service was welcoming and warm- it really seemed like our hosts wanted us to enjoy their food. The quality was excellent and the prices made us happy. We had bread, smalec, cheese pancakes with cream sauce, chicken soup, a duck main dish, a fruit drink, tea and cake for just under twenty pounds (we took advantage of the special set meal of the day). Can't wait to go back and try some more things.

Worst service or lack of service. Nice food but the good impression spoiled by poor service. Just one waitress who apart from taking initial order does not pay any attention to clients, disappears in kitchen. We waited today for half an hour after finishing one dish to order more drinks and dessert but no waitress, did not know what to do. Decided to leave, waiting in coats, deliberating should be go to the kitchen, staff rooms to search for staff when waitress finally appears, when asked why no service she replies I work now in the kitchen?! No apologies for bringing the wrong order. We have driven 40 miles from Bedfordshire in hope of having a nice meal but were hugely disappointed. Horrible experience!!!

I lived nearby the restaurant and it was a really good finding to the point that now sometimes I commute there to have dinner. Despite being in a street which hasn´t good a very nice vibe this restaurant is clean and cosy in the inside. Really cheap and I can assure you´ll leave the place satisfied both with the quality and the quantity.

We found this Polish restaurant with a good range of very tasty dishes. It was far too salty for our taste, but I am advised by Polish friends that Polish people like their salt, so I have no doubt that the food would be absolutely fine for the Polish community in that respect. It would be good to have the option to really tone down the salt if you prefer to order it that way though. Nice atmosphere overall with reasonable prices.
