Gilesgate Tandoori in County Durham

Disgusting. Spent nearly £80 on food which we were going to eat for our Xmas dinner tomorrow. All 4 dishes are swimming in oil. Ruined. Have taken photos but these don't convey the awful taste of oil! When I rang the takeaway to complain, the owner "Ahmed" said it was Just Eat's problem and hung up on me. Just Eat said it was the restaurant's problem as they produced the food. Am now going through my bank to get a charge back.

Orderd chicken bolti , pilau rice, nan bread. Onion salad came with it .Amazing thanks

Was staying at Durham Grange campsite and fancied a takeaway. The Gilesgate Tandoori is less than 10 minutes away so thought we'd give it a try. I had the special, and my wife had the chicken tikka biryani. They were busy and only take cash payments, but the food was excellent and we got a free bonus dish for the inconvenience which was a nice surprise. They are busy for a reason, great value excellent food will always be in demand,

I have had numerous 4 course meal specials,for £12.95. The food has always been excellent,& represents good value.

Pre ordered “chicken tikka masala”, and asked for sweetness to be significantly reduced. The chicken was a dessert. It tastes like they are using pre made sauces and it would explain the lie about the sweetness. Do not order from this place whatsoever.

First time we ordered food from here. Food was really delicious. Hubby found the vegetable Balti a little too salty though. However we will definitely order from here again. Delivery took an hour & 25 minutes - it was a Saturday so guess they were very busy.

Excellent service called for a collection minutes before closing and still got a delicious curry

1st time we've ordered apart from a bit of a wait the food was fabulous . We come from Whitley Bay so visiting our friends, will definitely be ordering again, great value

Horrible. Ordered chicken masala, waited for 40 minutes and it turns out to be sweet. My stomach wrenched when I tasted it. Never gonna frequent it again

Me and My friend both used to order from here on different occasions due to the spicy chips with green chillies! We absolutely loved them however tonight’s order was frozen chips with some red salt on top - really unimpressed and will now go back to our local take away which is a shame as we would drive over 20 minutes to get our food from here, purely for the different and tasty chips.

Decent, respectable curry house out Gilesgate past the Sunderland road split in DH1. This place was my go-to, often nearly daily, take-away curry shop for years when I was a student at Durham Uni. The food quality is good and the prices are reasonable. There are options for vegans and vegetarians.

Always the best tasting curry around. Prices have gone up which is fair enough but now the portions are getting smaller too. Gone from metal to plastic containers which seems the wrong direction to be going in. Naan bread is way smaller too. I usually get to finish off the wife's leftovers but she ate it all which is bad for me. Sort it out lads or we will be trying elsewhere.

After waiting over 90 minutes, we then waited another 20 minutes for the food to be delivered after being marked delivered! When the food arrived it was stone cold and tasteless! Definitely avoid!

Very disappointing as the standard of food has dropped dramatically. Lamb was very tough and over cooked, amount of meat in dishes very sparce, so mostly sauce, and quantities in general 2/3rd of what they should be. Have been loyal customer but time to try an alternative I'm afraid 😨

Abysmal. Food that was described as "fairly hot", wasn't. The food that was "ready for collection at 19.50hrs, was ready at 20.20hrs. A terrible takeaway. To. Be. Avoided.

Ordered for a 7.50pm pick-up. Currently 8.15 and still waiting. Shambles. Just hope it tastes better than the last time I ordered from here (years ago). After watching the staff in the kitchen I would avoid in the future. Only giving 1 star as I cannot give a zero

Came up from Birmingham to stay at a caravan park. Delivery no problem to them and spot on food.

Irrespective of the restaurant being open till 11.30pm they haven't accepted our orders on two consecutive days at 9.30pm and 10pm respectively.

Food is always good deliveries are shocking, the last 3 orders have took over 2 hours and that is being generous, Gilesgate Tandoori sort out your deliveries or I’m gone.

Waited 2 hours for our takeaway , then when it finally came they sent us the wrong one so had to wait even longer for the right delivery

Originally 20 mins, increased to 40, and still over 30 minutes late on a collection order after that. And still advising people on the phone that it will only take 40 mins. Ridiculous. Terrible customer service, appalling attitude on the phone to other customers. Doesnt matter if the food is amazing, never getting my business again. As far as I can tell hadn't even started our order until after we arrived at the place to collect. Unacceptable. If it's going to take 1hr 20 then say that, dont just lie to get business.

Took an hour and half for delivery. Food was bashed soggy and cold. When we rang to let the takeaway know the rude woman hung up. NEVA AGAIN.

Garlic tikka curry (lamb) was extremely tasty, as was the garlic and coconut pilau. The spicy chips were amazing. The only thing to let the meal down was the garlic nan, it was very bland.

Original waiting time was 1 hour 25 minutes. Called up on 1 hour 40 minutes to say it would be another 25 minutes even though we offered to drive and collect which was a 15min drive. Still waiting 2 hours 15 minutes later. Tried calling again and phone had been taken off the hook due to it been busy for 10 attempts over a 20 minute period. 2 hours 45 minutes later we spoke with Just Eat & cancelled the order. NEVER GOING BACK “what a joke of a business”

This always used to be my first choice takeaway but recently has gone majorly downhill. ...sooooo greasy. I have been using it for the last 15 years but mow totally gutted and dissppointed.

I have been using the gilesgate tandoori for over 10 years and have never had a bad meal . The food is excellent without doubt the best in county Durham . The Delhi Korhari is superb highly recommended !

I'm going to keep this briefish .. I order delivery from time to time and never been let down by even a slightly over done poppadom. Every dish seriously fresh and for those who like a bit hot and massively flavoursome dish I can't go on about it enough ..... The chicken tikka Lanka Piaza is by far the best Indian food ive had ever and I've had a few Curry's in my time and traveled the length and breadth of the UK. Brilliant! Stuart n Catherine
