Had afternoon drinks and food with family and friends lovely atmosphere food was absoloutly lovely also there was offer on cocktails which was great and the staff were spot on !! Cant wait till the next time

We booked a table for six last night. We were greeted by a very cheerful waitress who showed us to our table and immediately took our drinks order. We were sat in a cosy corner in the beautiful courtyard which was covered in fairy lights. Such a great atmosphere. We shared yummy tapas to start with, followed by faultless steaks. The Fish & Chips were great too. All in all a great evening in a tucked away corner in the centre of Hereford. Will be returning, thank you.

Booked Bottomless Brunch for my birthday for myself and three friends. Thought £15pp for unlimited Prosecco and/or Bloody Mary's and either 1 main meal or 3 tapas was a brilliant deal. Upon arrival we ordered 4 Bloody Mary's to kick things off nicely only for the waitress to return to advise us that there was no tomato juice!! We asked if there was an alternative cocktail on offer to replace the Bloody Mary's but unfortunately no only Prosecco was the answer. Once the Prosecco's had been poured the waitress then had to stay and wait whilst we chose our food, she told us she wasn't allowed to leave the table without our food order now the Prosecco had been poured!! That put us all under pressure as we had no idea what we wanted to eat at that stage!! We finally decided what we all wanted and placed our order. My one friend opted for the Moussaka only for the young waitress to return to advise us that was not available either!! So yet another rushed food choice followed as the waitress had to wait by our table yet again. We asked the waitress if shed like to leave the Prosecco bottle with us but unfortunately no, she wasn't allowed to do that either!!! The food arrived and, to be fair, all the meals were delicious. We were advised 10 minutes before our allotted time was up so asked for the bill. I was expecting it to be around £80-£90 ad we had ordered some side dishes but no, it was £120!! When I questioned it with Octavia she pointed out that it was Bottomless Bubbles not Brunch, that is not what it had read when I googled "Bottomless Brunch in Hereford" options. Octavia did apologise and agreed it was confusing and did recompense us with a cocktail each as an apology. This was supposed to be something special for my birthday but unfortunately I just found it all really disappointing!!

We booked a table of four for lunch on bank holiday Monday. It was an extremely wet and cold day & we were pleased to be seated under the outdoor marquee. Our drinks order was taken fairly quickly after arrival and we were handed food menus. A waitress did not come back to our table for over 35 minutes & we had to grab a waitresses attention & ask if we could place an order for food, as the wait became too long. When the waitress took our food order, we were disappointed to be told that four of our chosen tapas items were not available. (It would’ve been good to have been made aware of the unavailable items when the menus were handed to us upon arrival). We then waited for our food to arrive which took another 40 minutes after ordering. There were only another two tables of two in the restaurant at this point, so we could not understand why everything was taking so long. During the wait for food, we would’ve liked another drink but none of the four waitress were anywhere to be seen. When the food finally did arrive, the quality of the food did not compare to previous visits and we were all very disappointed, as the majority of our tapas dishes were bland & seemed to be missing the sauces advertised on the menu. There didn’t appear to be a manager working & none of the waitress were attentive during our visit despite the restaurant not being busy & there being plenty of staff. A very disappointing visit to one of our favourite Hereford restaurants. We really hope this visit was just a blip!

Appalling service, food/ drinks either didn’t turn up or were wrong. The food that did arrive was very basic. Will not go back or recommend.

Me and my partner arrived at 6:55 and was sat on a table squeezed away in the corner which was fine. We were super excited as it was our first time out! It was 2 for £12 cocktails until 7pm so was trying to get the waitresses attention so we could order but it seemed like there was just one poor girl running around doing everything. It got to 7:20 and we decided to leave as we hadn’t been acknowledged for 25 minutes, so unfortunately didn’t get to try any food or cocktails and left for another restaurant.

Literally just returned home from a meal out at this restaurant and I wouldn't recommend it at all. At the time of booking or upon our arrival We were not told there was a 2 hour turn around on their tables and that they wanted us out at a certain time. This was relayed to us half way through eating our meal when it already took 45 minutes to get our 1st course of food out to us. I thought it was never going to come. They also lost one of our drinks order and it took quite a long time for us to order another round of drinks and that was after 3 failed attempts to get the waitresses attention. We waited a substantial amount of time for them to clear our table and order our deserts. The deserts arrived and were awful. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding that was as dry as sawdust with a hint of toffee and it was certainly not sticky at all. We were literally eating our deserts for 5 minutes...yes just 5 minutes before the waitress came out and said they now need the table and can we leave. Obviously we said NO we are only half way through our deserts as it took so long for them to come out and we had not even finished our drinks. They gave us 10 more minutes...which at this time 2 members of the group had still not finished eating but when the waitress puts the bill on the table and is standing there with a card machine we really didn't have much option. The waitress said that the chef had phoned in sick and left them in the mess but they had overbooked on PURPOSE....AND while we were still talking to her she proceeded to turn around and walk off from us... what the heck!I mean why do that especially when the service had been so slow and awful already. Why overbook on purpose??? ... did they not think to mention this to customers upon arrival to keep them informed??? NO they didn't, they chose to struggle on and provide the worst customer service in the world. This was my birthday meal and it was a total shambles. I also get that covid has affected things/services, but the issues that had arisen this evening was certainly NOT down to covid and our group will definitely not be returning in a hurry.

I came with my daughter and my sister so had to sit outside due to current COVID restrictions on household mixing but was thoroughly pleased with the service and food. Tapas were brilliant- definitely recommend the cheese croquettes, meatballs, flatbreads, prawns and the nachos. Two of us had the Xmas pudding and asked for cream instead of the brandy sauce that was on the menu, and it was spot on. My daughter loved the churros too. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive- couldn’t have asked for more!

We visited today and chose several items off the tapas menu. It was all delicious. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely go back soon.

THE place to relax after or in between shopping, meet friends or even for a chat. Nice background music, not loud! The drinks are good, the food simple, service with a big smile!

I went to Gilbies as had heard food was great . So let down as firstly our table had been double booked!! We were asked to sit in the outside area and then observed the diners on our table being asked to move !! Not good business really ??!???Ordered food after finally getting the attention of the waitress. She was lovely and had just been promoted from the kitchen to serving. Our allocated waitress was totally useless and never came back after taking our initial drink order. We could see her socialising with the male servers !! So not busy !! Food arrived and a mistake was made no chips !! This was rectified with free chips which was acceptable. Finishing our main meal we had to ask for the table to be cleared and also had to ask for the desserts menu!! Really inattentive to customers !! My sister goes to Gilbies quite often and said she had never had such bad service. She did state the manager was not there so it may be a case of if the cats away the mice play...

I visited with a friend on a Thursday evening and the service was brilliant. They were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was good - both mains and desserts and reasonably priced. COVID restrictions were in place and I felt safe.

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime and as there were 9 of us and 3 dogs and we hadn’t booked we were not very hopeful of being accommodated. However, staff were happy to let us sit in the courtyard (seperate tables of course due to COVID requirements which we of course understood) . We ordered a mix of tapas, and sandwiches, it was a big order but it all came out correctly and in good time. We had a nice time and I would definitely recommend. We will visit again if we are back in the area again.

Booked a table for a nice meal with the wife and our dog, was told having a dog with us we would have to eat in the bar thought this would not be a problem as having a dog it's something you get used to.When we arrived the table in the bar area turned out to be a shelf with two high stools was told that was it or we could sit outside, as it had been raining all day it was cold and damp outside we said no thanks and left they probably lost about £50 as we went somewhere else that let us sit in comfort in the restaurant So dog friendly up to a point

With the "eat out to help out" scheme coming to an end, I must admit that my expectation levels were fairly low when we booked a table for Tuesday night. In my head I envisaged a seething mass of angry diners trying and failing to attract the attention of over-worked waiters. I needn't have worried though - the restaurant was well managed and the waitresses (although very busy) were friendly and efficient. The tapas and Hobsons IPA were lovely too. All in all, great night had by all!

Haven't been here since lock-down so we were really keen to get back and enjoy the outside surroundings. The place was empty with reserved signs on every single table – inside and out - even though it was 4pm. It stayed that way for the duration of our visit with staff even turning folks away who just wanted a quick drink (‘turning tables’ is obviously a concept lost on this business – absolutely bonkers!). We were shoved onto a table outside the Youth Project door even though we could have had the pick of the empty lovely outside place in the sunshine if the staff had more table turning savvy.We ordered tapas from the 'new summer menu' (with price increases). There were 3 of us - we ordered 10 plates. The food bill alone was over £40 and I have to say, we left hungry. To put it into context, the pork belly is £5.00 per tapas dish. The dish arrived as just THREE bite-sized morsels. As we'd ordered two portions of the pork, we'd spent £10.00 on SIX tiny squares of pork – effectively a tenner on a single rasher of pork belly! The same with the meatballs - six tiny, weeny balls (marble sized) for £8.00! The cod goujons arrived with no tartare sauce and the lamb koftas were cold. On the plus side, the bowl of chips were just fine.Needs a re-think. We’ll pop back for a drink maybe, but not ever again for tapas as the prices and portions are a joke. Such a shame.

First time at Gilbies! Took advantage of the eat out to help out! Although it was slow (which is understandable how busy it was) it was worth the wait ! Definitely be back soon!

We visited whilst on a family trip, we sat down at 6:30pm and our food did not arrive until after 8pm. The cocktails were abysmal, lacked any flavour and most I couldn’t even drink. The food was the same, after waiting over an hour the food was cold and lacked any sort of flavour. I would never go back to this restaurant and could not recommend it to anyone. The service was atrocious, we were never offered more drinks or asked how the food was we had to flag down staff members. Thoroughly unimpressed, we ended up going elsewhere afterwards as we were all still hungry. The portion sizes were shockingly small. We ordered 3 tapas each and this was probably the same amount as you would get on a starter elsewhere. For the price is was not worth it at all.

While on holiday in Hereford , we had dinner here . Very busy & had to wait a long time for our food , but when it arrived it was lovely and thouroughly enjoyed it .

Really enjoyed a tapas lunch sitting outside, which was bargainous to boot, as taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Lovely surroundings, nice food, pleasant service. First meal out since March, enjoyed it.

We have been there a couple of times for the tapas,and have been well impressed. Best in the city I reckon.

Visited in December 19 for some food with friends and I was very impressed with the service we received. The menu was greatly improved from when I visited at the start of the year. Glad the tapas menu has come back, I will be visiting again!

We recently had our office Christmas party at Gilbies and we have to say it didn’t disappoint. Food was amazing and staff were excellent - big shout out to Jo, thanks for looking after our table and being so attentive. Would definitely recommend! Thank you again!

Food was good and reasonable priced. But then groups of youngsters were served well before our small table of oldies, and if you like shrieking hens and plastered birthday boys, this is the place for you! The gents' got flooded, most of the staff were very young and untrained,quite unable to do anything useful, the manager plainly too inexperienced to cope, eg, by keeping us regularly informed of why they didn't bring our bill etc.

Myself and other half, turned up off spec on a Tuesday evening on the hope of some tapas.We weren't disappointed. The server Jo, greated us perfectly and quickly seated us.We then had a superb 6 tapas dishes for £18 which we thought was more than reasonable.Highly recommended and cannot wait for a return visit.Well done all round!!

Couldn’t decide where to eat yesterday, so thought we would give Gilbies a try! so a couple of us popped in for a bite to eat, We shared some tapas between us and I had a burger it was awesome! Tapas was fresh and quick my burger was juicy and tasty! Will definitely be back! Staff also helpful and friendly !

I went for a birthday meal with friends and family. Left message on answer phone day before to book table which was not acknowledged, called again to make sure table had been reserved. No need only a single diner and a group of 3 in restaurant Ordered tapas and a couple of starters which were ok then asked the waiter what he would recommend burgers or lasagna - he recommended burger so that is what I had along with 4 of the party one had baked potato with prawns in a marie sauce and 2 lasagna's. Well the burgers came with no slaw which was on the menu my friends and I would have reconsidered if we had known. I requested no lettuce on the burger or plate-there was none in the burger but the plate was piled high with the stuff (I don't like lettuce) to cover the fact of no slaw chips were lifeless and the beef was so dry that my daughter only had a couple of mouthfuls.the Marie rose sauce was unedable my sister had one mouthful The lasagna's were dry and both left quite a bit. Very disappointing. When the plates were cleared did mention that none of us had been impressed and they could tell that by the amount of food that was left that we were not happy. Gave us a refund of nearly 50% of the main course which was something and I appreciated the fact that they realised it wasn't special. Were going to have puddings but thought better of it.

Lovely location, good host and service, good menu, food and wine. Music volume was a bit overwhelming but staff reduced the level on request without hesitation.

I was supposed to meet someone here and was having trouble getting messages up on my facebook on my phone. Pheonix was so helpful and was able to sign me in to messenger on their phone and gave me the phone to use, then logged me out specifically so that I could see my details weren't left on the phone. Love coming to Gilbies. I have been coming here a few times a year for years. Staff are friendly and helpful . Love the skins with dips and tapas.

Barman was chatty, fun and helpful. Tapas is always great, although didn't love the feta stuffed peppers. Nice outside tables. Quick service. Good atmosphere. Love coming here

I booked this restaurant when organising our weekend to Hereford and had very little knowledge other than Trip Advisor reviews and a menu. We were very pleasantly suprised upon entry, it looked nothing from the entrance to the passageway but hDad a very modern interior. We had excellent service throughout the evening and an excellent tapas selection. We would all return here on a future visit to Hereford.

First time to Gilbies this evening, although we have walked passed the entrance hundreds of times before. It was happy hour (see website for booze deals) and pretty busy by 5pm with a nice vibe of customers inside and out. The girls behind the bar didn't give the best greeting with no smile at all so the the welcome was lacklustre. We kind of had to fend for ourselves from that point regarding happy hour drinks etc. and searching for our own menus to look at tapas and then grabbing someone to order. It was a bit haphazard to be honest and no recognisable 'front of house' or personality. That said, this is the only place I have visited in a very long time that served a proper ice bucket (with ice AND WATER) to keep the bottle properly cold instead of just perched on ice. Nice! We sat outside in the courtyard and it was very pleasant indeed apart from the smokers who shared the space. We ordered the '6 for the price of 5 tapas' so actually ordered 12 dishes as there were 4 our us. A super selection and overall it was a good effort. The pork belly was FABULOUS as were the chorizo croquettes and the haloumi and mozorella. That said, not entirely sure how anyone would serve one whole rib as a tapas dish - how to share a bone I wonder. Weird! The same with a corn on the cob? Really? No, no no. Would have liked to have seen the house double cooked chips on the tapas menus as the potatas didn't quite hit the mark and the alleged 'potato skins' were just really masquerading as 4 big fat soggy chips - a shame. The 'stuffed peppers' were so tiny weeny that I have no idea what the chef was thinking - it looked like one tiny pepper, the size of my thumb, had been cut into three even tinnier pieces.

We recently visited Gilbies for some food and we weren't disappointed! I had a great variety of 6 tapas dishes for the price of 5 with the 'make your own Platter'.Extremely good value for money and each dish was really tasty. My Wife had the Caesar Salad which she said was delicious. The beer was really good too!

In a recent trip to Gilbies, who are under new management, we opted to try one of everything on the tapas menu, and we weren’t disappointed, a good selection of meats, seafood and veg tapas arrived, presented well and good portions, perfect to split between 3 people. I would certainly recommend if you are looking for somewhere to go in either jeans and converse or your little black dress give Gilbies a try. The outside area on a warm evening is pleasant. Overall the evening was great, great service, great food, great place.

Stopped for a snack and a drink in the beautiful sunshine. Had a selection of small plates which were incredible! Had 5 between 4 of us and they were all delicious. Can't wait to go back for more.

Nice to have the family together but the food was a let down considering it was pre ordered beef and lamb got confused not enough veg

Food choice limited, incredibly salty and salad should consist of more than just leaves and 2 cherry tomatoes. Next table sent their food back, and another tables jacket potato’s came out cold. Changed decor to horrible plastic chairs too. There was a distinct spell of ‘sewage’ in the place too. For the price you pay, I’d expect better service. I did complain but it wasn’t really acknowledged. Will not be going back anytime soon.

Four of us recently went to a Japanese themed evening at Gilbies and we were very impressed by the effort put in by the chef. Five different courses all served at the same time to approximately 40 people was an incredible feat to achieve.

We were greeted by one of the staff who recognised us from many visits before and she found us a table for 4 even though it was busy.

We visited Gilbies for lunch and was impressed with the food we ordered. We had chilli beef jacket potato, pork ciabatta roll and a steak sandwich. The quality was excellent, tasty and plentiful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone else and we’ll definitely be visiting again.

Gilbies has been a regular favourite for several years. Tapas, salads, quick service and good prices. Now it has fallen over a cliff. Limited menu, expensive and very unimpressive food. A big disappointment.

Visited gilbies with a group of friends for my birthday, my first time visiting since they have had a new chef and changed their menu. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food, the fish and chips was the best I’ve ever tasted. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff made us very welcome, highly recommend!

I visited here with a group of friends and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It was my first time eating here since the arrival of their new chef, and I'll certainly be going back to sample more of the menu! I opted for a selection of the tapas, and would highly recommend the hasselback potatoes and chorizo croquettes - simply delicious.

A refreshing change for Hereford , great food great atmosphere and delightful staff. The small plates are great and the desserts exquisite , highly recommend !

Ate here with a group of friends. Menu was different to the usual, so much so it was difficult to choose - I wanted to try everything! Had the fish pie in the end, really enjoyed. It looked a lot, but in fact was just right and left enough room for dessert. Had all the desserts been available I would have rated the restaurant 5, but both the ones I would have liked were unavailable. Next time maybe! Excellent service, friendly yet professional, good wine by the glass with a choice. Will definitely come again.

Had an excellent Sunday lunch at Gilbies today. Good portion sizes, fresh vegetables, and plenty of extra gravy. Best roast dinner I have had in Hereford!

Visited today for Sunday lunch and it was lovely. Tasty, beautifully cooked and the service was excellent. The food is always really good here and looking forward to trying their new menu.

The new menu brings Hereford dining bang up to date and offers diners something a little different for occasion dining. Great happy hour & a great range of drinks. Can’t wait to see what further changes the team have up their sleeve for 2019 long overdue. Looking forward to returning in the spring to soak up the sun in the courtyard.

We visited recently and enjoyed the new menu. A great new chef and great food. We tried a range of small plates and really enjoyed them. We will be back again soon.

We visited Gilbies tonight and had amazing small plates from the new menu. We had a pave potatoes each and chorizo croquettes to share, we can HIGHLY recommend. The potatoes were perfection and you could really taste the chorizo in the croquettes. Food is delicious and obviously carefully made. Presentation is also lovely and service was great

Everyone needs to try the new menu! Great food and great service. We had the pave potatoes and chorizo croquettes which were incredible.

It took about an hour and a half to get our food, which wasn't even what we actually wanted as the things we wanted were out of stock. However we were only told this after waiting about 40 minutes for staff to take our order so there was no question of going anywhere else by that point. It seems that the tables with more people on were the priority not us. The menu is also misleading. If a dish contains meat it really should state this. I will not be visiting again of an evening for food although we have found it is pleasant enough for a beer or coffee in the day time.

My friend and I frequently visit this establishment on a night out. We are always greeted with a friendly welcome by the bartender and staff. They make FABULOUS “proper “ cocktails! Even warn that they are strong!!! We had a variety of “small plates “ of food, moules marinières, baked cheese, flat bread with dips, chorizo croquettes, smoked salmon. Most enjoyable! Will definitely be returning

We went early on Sunday, the place is a strange courtyard with plastic chairs and on entering the restaurant was unexpectedly almost empty.

Came here for lunch & Christmas drinks with friends as it’s a usual spot for our annual meet up. The bar is well stocked with plenty of variety, but hugely expensive- we paid £9 for two drinks (a pint of cider & gin with lemonade).

On a visit to friends in Hereford we decided to try The Sunday lunch at this restaurant, we had called for a few drinks the night before and booked our table. When the lunch eventually arrived we were so disappointed at the poor quantity, then the poor quality.

Booked a table over phone with owner Rob, happy to do whatever he could to help me prepare for friends big 4-0 birthday dinner.

Lovely start to a girls night out! I have a diary intolerance but fancied the seafood platter which has a few items I can’t have on it. I was given the allergy menu and allowed to swap items out for ones that were dairy free and not charged any extra! Staff were so friendly too, thanks Gilbies!

I've been twice at lunchtime in the past six months but probably won't bother again.

We came for a family meal before my mother in law goes in to hospital to have a hip operation. There was a private birthday meal downstairs so we had to be seated upstairs - we had no other option but wasn't informed when the table was booked.

Have been here previously with great food. Tonight, the meals were overdone and poor generally. The veggie burger was dry, served with just a handful of chips. Nothing else. Same for two meals from Oktoberfest menu-extremely basic. We wanted to say something but the staff were so busy and we were starving!!?

A great lover of Tapas myself and a friend decided our that our latest catch up we would try somewhere new as opposed to our usual visit to the cozy club. Sadly this wasn't the standard we expected from a niche side street venue.

Have visited Gilbies many times over the years and one Saturday dropped in for a change from the normal. We had different coffees but won’t visit again for a coffee. Poor tasting and far better independent coffee shops. Sorry won’t rush back

We stopped here for lunch and ate of the Tapas menu, although a little cramped the restaurant has a good feel about it. The service was good. The food was good although some of the dishes could have been a little hotter.

A friend and I visited for a lunch date and ended up staying all afternoon because we were so comfortable there. The food was excellent and I was surprised how reasonable the food prices were. We stayed so long that we had to order a cheese board later too!! Great atmosphere, great service, and we never felt pressured to move from our table, even though we stayed such a long time.

Had a starter and roast delivered via deliveroo today.

Gilmore used to be one of the ‘go to’ places in Hereford.

Situated in an alley off the High Street, Gilbies used to be my favourite watering hole when visiting Hereford. Sadly my most recent visit was a let-down. Yes, the location is great and the young staff are as cheerful and helpful as ever, but the food seems to have gone downhill. We ordered a wide selection of tapas most of which turned out to be quite dry and unappetising. Great shame!

My wife and I have only recently relocated to Hereford, and decided to book an early evening table at this popular restaurant. We were seated in the secluded courtyard under the beautiful old Yew tree. The service was friendly and efficient, and we were at once put at ease by the smiling young waitress. The food was well presented and delicious - as was the Estrella lager! All-in-all, a great night was enjoyed by us both and we will be sure to return at the earliest opportunity.

Visited hoping to enjoy a lunch on a warm sunny sunday. The courtyard was lovely. It's a shame I can't say the same for the food.A limited menu was available. What we chose looked and tasted terrible. The meat was tough and undercooked. The salad was uninspiring. The waitress had little reaction when after she enquired after how our meal was we politely told her it was disappointing and inedible.

I last reviewed this place in October 2016 when I was disappointed with the food. I have ate here several times over Spring/Summer 2018 and am please to be able to write a much better review. All staff are friendly and welcoming and Gilbies continues to serve good coffee! In June we tried the macaroni cheese, steak baguette and quiche and salad and were very happy with our choices. We will continue to support this local business.

Visited here on Sunday, been before and normally if table has no reserved signs these tables were free to sit at !!

Visited for a Sunday lunch. The food was cold , meat was tough, cutlery blunt so had to try and saw through the cold fatty meat. Roast potatoes were burnt black and tasteless. Gravy was cold , thick and gloopy, veg had been over cooked. Twice I ordered a drink without ice and still they added ice! I would not recommend this place to anyone!

A group of us visited here for a late lunch, during a sunny afternoon in June. Friendly staff, clean toilets, seating in and outside, with Tv monitors outside showing the football World Cup.

The food here is excellent and tasty. My steak was perfectly cooked. my wife’s vegetarian meal was fantastic. Our friends meals also looked great. There is also a selection of. Tapas. We all had puddings again top notch. The prices

We took so long pondering their lunch menu and specials board, we had coffee before ordering which was one of the best I've tasted (not sure what brand they use but for decaff it's excellent). I was still adding the generous serving of hot milk when our food order was served. My Bacon and Brie sandwich in brown bread was delicious (my only comment would be the bacon was a little too salty for my taste). Very filling, no room for dessert unfortunately or I'd have ordered Churros!

Came here with a friend on a Saturday evening. We got the last available table outside as the weather was gorgeous. I went with the Tex-Mex platter and my friend had the Quinoa burger. Whilst she found her burger rather bland, I thoroughly enjoyed everything about the platter. We had a couple of drinks outside and it was all very pleasant and relaxing.

We were delighted with our chance discovery of this welcoming restaurant for our Sunday Lunch! We were impressed by the staff and thought if food was spot on!

Been here before and it was great, probably still is BUT we booked a Saturday evening several weeks in advance. Rang on the day to confirm the time. Nice small restaurant. Arrived on time totally overbooked with a wedding party that must have been there for a long ages and other diners. Messy noisy and full. No tables and staff looked exhausted. Could not even catch someones attention for a drink. Try finding a dinner in Hereford on a Saturday night at 8pm when there has been a race meeting, the football team played at home and the 6 nations is on. Thats why we booked in advance and double checked at lunchtime. Only given this rating as communication so bad and it spoilt our evening. The heads up it was going to be so busy would have been great.

Midweek, so very quiet. Service was excellent. Food was okay. Gilbies must be doing something right, it's seen quite a few other local restaurants open & close during its existence.

We had an exceptionally delicious lunch. I had tender beef, but pork or lamb looked good too with plenty of varied veg and gravy. Excellent service from well-trained staff and very good wines as well.

You order at the food bar and then the food is brought to your table. The food, service and drinks are always good at Gilbies.

We were doing some last minute Christmas shopping in Hereford and wanted some lunch. There are plenty of chain restaurants in the town but we wanted something different and locally owned. St. Peter's Close caught our eye with the Gilbies sign over the top of a narrow lane. When a restaurant looks good, it usually is good. The location is very unusal, tucked up against a church with a courtyard that must be lovely to eat or drink in summer. The menu was interesting , the Frito Misto very good and the chili good too. We will definitely eat there again.

Visited today...a party of 7...table in the window...very cold...so after mentioning it and no sign of a second radiator being...

I went by the reviews on this site and booked for four as we were on a day trip to Hereford. Three of us ordered Moroccan Chicken Tagine with cous cous and one ordered the fish and chips which she had no complaint about. All three of us found the Tagine was completely tasteless it was like eating chicken pieces in a can of tomatoes. We were so disappointed and still quite hungry. I spoke discreetly to the young man when he collected the dishes to ask him to tell the chef that this was not good. We spent £14.95 each on the tagine and shared 2 bottles of wine so it was quite expensive at a total cost of almost £24 each for a lunch we were not able to enjoy. My beef is that if you can not cook a Moroccan Tagine take it off your menu.

Back in Hereford for business, my mate and I decided to pay Gilbey’s another visit on Wednesday 30th November. Nice...

Lovely little hidden-away courtyard to eat out at - food very good - inside ambiance could do with something to lift it during the day

Had a great lunch at Gilbies - the Spanish tortilla with chorizo & salad was superb. Excellent service, wonderful atmosphere and great value.
